I work with many tourists who ask me about great activities and this is the top on my list. Donnie and Kathy (the tour guides) are so much fun- taking us through the history of Palm Springs, while pointing out the newer details about the area. History, culture, art, food, what more can we ask for? They kept us hydrated and filled with beverages, water, food and even a nifty gift bag. This tour is small and intimate, with only 6 guests, so everyone has a chance to ask questions and absorb! The tour includes several stops featuring cocktails, mocktails and food while you enjoy the experience. Some of our stops included several popular and my personal choices, Eight Four Nine and Crudo. We were treated to Crudo's pistachio lime cocktail - perfect beverage to feel relaxation at its finest! These may be on your tour, or there will be other wonderful places. Best to even take the tour again, in case you missed something! I don't want to give much more away so just trust me and make your reservation now. It's truly memorable and magical!

I slept until 12pm check out time at nearby hotel and slowly made my way here. Upon entering the trading post to purchase ticket, a gentleman offered me a guided tour, which was to commence in 10 minutes. Though it wasn't in my plan but I eagerly accepted, and we began. Turned out, it became one of the highlight of my trip! Located at above sea The tour started in a small room with public exhibitions providing an introduction to Cabot Yerxa's life, including his discovery of water in the desert with the aid of his Native American friend. As we progressed, I gained a deeper understanding of Cabot's diverse talents as an adventurer, pioneer, and self-made artist, writer, and photographer. The Pueblo house, constructed from entirely recycled materials, showcased his resourcefulness, with each door and window uniquely crafted. Cabot's decision to relocate to Desert Hot Springs was motivated by an offer of 60 acres of land for homesteading. The guided tour provided an intimate perspective, allowing us to step back in time and observe the lives of Cabot and his family. I found myself pondering the type of woman who could complement a man of Cabot's character, and it was revealed that his second wife, whom he met at 60, shared similar interests and assisted him in giving museum tours. in return , he built a room on the 2nd floor for her comfort, it has. Bathtubs , he jokingly said that's probably the only thing that's mail ordered in this house

I spent my birthday here in Joshua Tree and when I travel I often look up places to visit which are unusual for the area. This little place popped up and I knew I had to visit. His workshop and living trailer are still there, surrounded by his artwork. The grounds are unfenced, and there is a dedicated parking area on both side of the dirt ride, towards the West part of the exhibit (coming from the East, important to keep going until you see a small parking area on the south part of the road...otherwise, you will be parking on private property.) You can get up close and personal, and touch whatever you like (since it's part of how the exhibit's age). But it can also be dangerous, with many pokey and sharp things, so need to watch out while wandering. Art is a subjective thing, and I would not have guessed that I would have enjoyed his exhibit as much as I did (especiallyl the exhibits involving bowling balls and/or toilets as the main materials). But as I continued to look at his pieces, kept wondering 'What was he thinking?....How did he envision this would look 20 years after creation, as the desert enveloped?', both from an overall macro level, but also from a detailed, day-to-day accomplishment perspective. The setting of the desert is as integral as the recycled material itself. And I couldn't help but think...'is this what a end-of-the-world scenario would look like?'. And as certain parts of the exhibit degrades, will the foundation fix it...or is that the natural progression of his art? There is a handout near the entrance that tells the fascinating story of the artist's life. It's well worth reading.

There are multiple structures built that you can walk through and feel as though you are walking through a place that is forbidden, including a shack, complete with bed and clothes hanging on a line. The artwork spans decades. He's a prolific artist. The majority of the sculptures have cables holding them down, so you have to be careful not to trip on them accidentally when walking up close, I'd you're not paying attention. I highly recommend visiting this place. Admission is free! Parking: Plenty of free designated parking.

Sun screen a bottle of water. After visiting Joshua Tree, I began reading about the history throughout this entire National Park. I felt like a 5 year old in a candy story. Lol ! I began planning trips to experience something different each visit. There are so many hidden treasures within Joshua Tree National Park. My key interest was Bill Keys, and how did he survive in the True Wild West . A ranger-led tour and learn about the cultural history of Keys Ranch. Topics may include Native American history, mining, ranching, homesteading, the Keys family, and the site's transition into a protected historical site. You will see all the 'Precious' junk laid down on the yard and understand how the many settlers live their life. Mr. Keys was very entrepreneurial and saw how tenacious he was. Truly amazing Tour, our tour guide was awesome. we asked so many questions. He was so full of exciting information. Although things have changed throughout the years to maintain what remains. , none the less a tour to try. Out of curiosity, I wonder how long they will maintain it. In the 1960s, several Disney movies for television were filmed here. Keys even played the role of a prospector in "The Wild Burro of the West." A cheesy horror film, "The Hills Have Eyes," was also filmed here.

We did this tour after our rock climbing experience. But in hindsight, we should have done it on another day since it's in such a remote section of the park. The only way to see this spot is by a ranger-guided tour at specific times. We had a 1 PM reservation, which allowed us just 1 hour to get there. The good news is we made it in time with 10 seconds to spare due to my "efficient driving." But why make a trip here? In short, it's all about the wild history of this land. A place of outlaws and wild west living. You can't help but wonder what it was like for anyone to live in such a remote place especially back in the early 1900's. Keys Ranch was built in 1910 and the residence of Bill and Frances Keys along with their children for over 60 years. Having first moved to the desert in search of gold, Bill started this ranch as he built up a life for himself with mining and ranching. Our guide showed us around the place, which hasn't changed much since Bill died. A major highlight of the tour was hearing all of the stories, especially about the clash of worlds for Bill's wife Frances, who came from a well-to-do family in Pasadena. She came here for the adventure and I can't think of a spot further away from high society Pasadena. Most notable though was Bill's wild shoot out that sounds more like a spaghetti western movie. During a dispute over the Wall Street Mill, Bill shot and killed a guy named Worth Bagley. He just happened to be a former sheriff's deputy. Bill was found guilty of murder and sentenced to nine years at San Quentin State Prison. Talk about neighborhood drama. Check out the park's website for additional information on visiting Keys Ranch. Keys Ranch tours cost $10 per person aged 12 and over and $5 for children 6 to 11. Children under six are admitted free. Advance reservations are required for all visitors.
