Felipe's encouragement and positive attitude had us all climbing rocks we thought were impossible at the beginning of the day. After my wife's first ever rappel, she exclaimed, "That is one of the coolest things I have ever done in my life!" And we're done some pretty cool things. Our guide Felipe went out of his way to make our trip as memorable as possible. At the beginning of the day he asked us what we wanted to do. Every climbing location we went to was very different, we did everything from smear climbing and cracks, to jugs, overhangs, and bouldering. I was impressed with the variety he was able to show us, and would not have been able to put together anything like it on my own. At our request he also taught us about setting our own top rope anchors, proper safety techniques for outdoor bouldering, and how to read guide books (for when he's not around). The highlight for me was when I mentioned how cool it would be to have photos from the top of the cliff we were climbing looking down. Felipe offered to climb up and take those pictures for us as we climbed up. The shots he got were amazing, and wouldn't have been possible without Felipe there. Overall, our time with Flux Adventures and Felipe was the highlight of our trip. I would highly recommend this to anyone. P.S. It doesn't hurt that Felipe is also super handsome. =)

It was my first time climbing outside after a few months at an indoor gym, and it was unforgettable! Having a guide take me out removed all stress around the event. I just showed up and hit the rocks. Greg had a plethora of good tips for routes selection, gear, beta, and technique. He was super chill and flexible to my current skills and interests. They are also quick responders to any questions. Every aspect of the experience has been perfected. I don't know much about astronomy and figured this tour would help point out some constellations for us. It was SO much more, full of Tony's impassioned stories from different cultures about the stars . His enthusiasm is contagious and knowledge is impressive. The tour is totally unscripted yet packed with great stories and just the right amount of interaction. It is a great and inspiring story how the business was developed. They offer drinks and snacks as well as blankets and gravity chairs, with flameless candles lighting where to step. The two other highlights for us were the UFO military grade goggles that make the stars and planets pop as they did for our ancestors, prior to light pollution. The equipment is clearly state of the art. The slow exposure portrait Tony takes at the end is absolutely beautiful and frameable. 5 stars Upon…read moreentering the visitor's center, I was greeted by a little museum that NPS is so well-known for. It details the rock formations and the wildlife that can be expected while hiking. Within the visitor's center is a gift shop with gorgeous Joshua Tree Nat'l Park-inspired clothing and products. I recommend purchasing merch here since a portion of proceeds go back to the parks. The souvenirs are also much more affordable than privately-owned gift shops nearby. I bought a pin ($7) and a Travel Stamp sticker ($3.99). The office staff are also very knowledgeable about the area. The young man I spoke to highlighted the areas I asked about - see photo for highlighted map. I wanted short 1-mile hikes along with Heart Rock & Arch Rock. 5/5 stars for service! The restrooms inside are clean and there are also portapotties in the parking lot with outdoor sinks available. Their parking lot is small, but there's plenty of street parking. The entrance to the national park is really close by as well.

It is the one fronting the West entrance to the Park, which is the more popular of the two. It is located before having to pay the park entrance fee. It was manned by two friendly, quite busy volunteer rangers, answering any questions about your visit. We didn't have time to visit the park itself, so took the opportunity to learn a bit more about the park from displays and presentations. As I learned, it is crowded inside (shoulder to shoulder). There is a dedicated parking lot, along with street parking, and a small gift shop. My wife's mom ended up buying a tote bag (or two) to take back home. We didn't get to go inside the park this time, but was able to see plenty of Joshua trees real close, which are only endemic to this area.

This is real camping, not a parking lot with tents. Sunsets here are unreal, and at night the stars are absolutely breathtaking. If you're into hiking, climbing, photography, or just disconnecting from everything, this place is perfect. You can step out of your tent and immediately feel like you're deep in the wilderness.
