I attended one class at the special five dollar first class rate. I chose the Sunday morning hot 90. I regularly attend Bikram style yoga classes that are very traditional. This class is not as structured and not as traditional, but it is a good shift. It's not so far from the traditional 26 and two that you get lost, but it does have some sections where you can do alternative poses or add vinyasas if you prefer. I really really liked the teacher who was also the owner. She has a really good energy and was really helpful and kind to me when I got there and talked me through how the class would go since it was not what I'm used to. I look forward to being able to go again while I'm in town for work. I would also like to try some other classes at the studio because it's really nice and opened an airy and I think it's got a really great vibe. read more

I love this yoga studio! I have been coming here on and off for several years now. No matter which class I take, I always leave feeling accomplished and refreshed. The instructors are super sweet and friendly. There is a diverse offering of classes that will make yogis and yoginis of all skill levels feel at home. The teachers are great at offering modifications and classes are intended to be individualized and for oneself rather than an athletic competition (though you're bound to feel the burn!) I especially love Yin yoga, which is half meditation, half holding long deep poses. It takes a lot of determination and focus, and works wonders on my anxiety. I also love regular flows and hot classes. One great thing about this studio is that you can book online via a seamless foolproof system. read more

Once a week, change your mind; three times a week change your body; practice everyday, change your life... There are some interesting personalities as mentioned in another post, and yes - they are expressive and distracting (I too have judged). What I didn't know was that in Suzanne's allowing them to be who they are it is probably keeping them from being isolated, lonely and despondent--and that is the point of a good yoga practice and good karma, to welcome and include. Journeys embodies this as do many others. This community has lived the heartbreak and pain of senseless violence, there is no easy answer. I've recently been trying to exercise more and get in shape, so a friend of mine recommended we come here to try Hot Yoga. I had an AMAZING TIME! It was my first time trying Yoga and everyone from the receptionist at the front desk and the instructor made sure I had a great and successful first time. During the session, the instructor made sure to encourage everyone to move at their own pace and even made sure to explain easier positions for less advanced members. The room gets EXTREMELY HOT, so complementary water is provided in the back of the room and we're given a few water breaks throughout the session. BRING YOUR OWN WATER BOTTLE! I finished mine about halfway through the session. I have nothing bad to say about Journeys. In my opinion, this was more of an intense workout than deadlifting(my least favorite thing in the world) at the gym. By the end of the workout you'll be drenched in sweat and feeling like you worked every muscle you have. I had a great time and definitely plan to be back again! read more

I went to an open flow class here last week expecting a vinyasa based class where we learn a flow and then can flow freely. Online it said the room is very warm but it was only 75 degrees which to me is not a heated class. The instructor was nice and seemed knowledgeable about yoga as well as offered modifications for all. However, she was making jokes throughout the class which I found distracting. I did not like the set up where there are two rows of mats and you are facing people throughout the class, as it is distracting for me to look into someone's eyes while doing yoga... however maybe this is just a personal thing. Lastly, there was a student making very loud exhales (that sounded like moans), and people exchanged glances, looking visibly distracted and uncomfortable. The student was also talking with the teacher throughout the entire class. I would have expected the teacher to be able to control the class as it was disturbing to the other 25 people there and not somewhere I felt like I could meditate. Although I got a pretty good workout in, I will not be returning as it wasn't a relaxing environment for me to flow in. read more

THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!! Danielle is such a light and so funny and forgiving. She does not expect more than what you're able to do and encourages you to do your best. I felt so welcome and so at peace and just allowed the energy of the room to take over. She's a great instructor and the energy of the whole place might I add is extremely calming and beautiful. 10/10 recommend and will be going back. Also I am 7 months pregnant and it was still very engaging there were things I was able to do and what I was not able to do I just chilled out and I never felt like that wasn't okay. Journeys in Yoga provides an array of classes including Hot Yoga, Open Flow, and Ashtanga. There is something for everyone! I'm always very excited to try out new and unique classes that will keep me engaged and wanting to come back for more, and Journeys in Yoga always keeps its promise. Some of their classes, like Ashtanga, are fairly slow paced and really strive to guide you to a state of tranquility throughout the class. They also offer more difficult classes, such as Open and Fire Flow. In these classes your guide plays around with all sorts of poses and balances that will really get your heart pumping. The difference between Open and Fire? Open is set to a regular temperature whereas Fire is set to about 95-100 degrees F. All the guides at Journeys are very experienced in the art of Yoga and are very inviting to both veterans and newcomers alike. While each guide has their own way of instructing, they all encourage you to do everything at your own pace and never push yourself harder than your body can handle. With that being said, the guides are all firm believers that with practice, the body will be able to withstand a good amount of stress that will eventually lead to progression in the art. Journeys does have rental yoga mats, but I recommended that you buy your own mat if you plan on attending often because you will sweat and better to sweat on your own mat than on one that many people have sweat on. Journeys in Yoga provides an overall excellent experience that is sure to get you motivated and inspired to be the best you can be both in class and in your own personal life. For as many people that I've already met in Tallahassee who love Journeys In Yoga, I'm so surprised there is only 1 review! But then again, I just moved to Tallahassee from Los Angeles 2 weeks ago and online social media is definitely not as popping around here haha.. either way, I always say and try to practice one of my favorite mottos: Give Props When They're Due. In the past couple of weeks I've been to a handful of classes: Intro, Open Flow, Core, maybe one other one...my favorite is Core! Best workout for someone who is trying to not only stretch, strengthen, and enhance flexibility, but drop a few and really tone up as well. As for Journeys In Yoga, I have to say, it's the best yoga studio I've ever been to! Everyone is friendly, the instructors are great/super helpful, and the diverse people that fill the classes up immediately put you at ease if you were worried about being the least fluent yogee in the room. I immediately purchased a package and plan to continue going indefinitely. **Oh, another perk, if you don't have a yoga mat/water/towel, basically anything, they will provide it for you for FREE! Some places I've been to charge $2 to borrow a mat every time, so that's very nice of JIY to offer. All you have to bring is your own 2 legs, 2 arms, smiling face, and other things that are generally attached to or inside of you. Annddd... they just had their 5th Anniversary/Bday Party this past Saturday....at the end of the FREE classes they had all throughout the day, they had plates of brownies and yumminess out...how awesome is that?? Nothing says Thank You & We Care About You better than a perfectly portioned treat after an enduring 1 1/2 hours of working your body and mind. My coworker and myself were in town from Dallas, TX and wanted to do some yoga after being on our feet all day. This was the closest studio to us, and it was awesome! We were able to walk-in and sign up. The class was an hour and 15 minutes and only costed $5 (first time price). For that price and the length of the class, we could not have asked for better! The instructor was great, and explained each position very well (it was my first yoga class EVER). So much fun and would recommend this studio to anyone! So many yoga studios to choose from in town, but Journeys is a favorite. I feel the sense of community immediately upon entering their space...it's inviting and warm, a stark difference from the plaza it's located in. Parking in that lot, you wouldn't guess that this little oasis sits back in the corner but it's a trip worth taking (you'll be very thankful to yourself after a class). Found this place when staying in Tallahassee for business. It is one of the friendliest and most welcoming places I've ever encountered. By the time I left after my first class I felt like part of the family - everyone knew each other and the beautiful space let everyone gather and come and go as they pleased. I did a Flow I class, Yin Yang, and Meditation. All were challenging for me but welcoming of all levels. The Yin Yang class was actually a donation class taught by a yoga instructor in training and my donation went to a local shelter. So I initially came to Journeys with a friend just for fun thinking that it would be a chill way to relax and get my stretch on. Well I was wrong. The first session I ever did, Fire Flow I, was way more taxing on my body than I could have ever imagined, all while being very fun and refreshing. Sure I was sweating like I never have before in the 95+ degree room they had us in, but it was a very enjoyable time. I have since been to Journeys on 3 other occasions and proceeded to purchase a session package. They offer packages that range from 5 sessions all the way to 20 sessions, each at different price points. The more you purchase the better the price for each individual session. All the instructors at Journeys are very welcoming and willing to help you learn more about the art of yoga and what it entails. And don't be afraid to look funny doing many of the poses either! It is a completely judge free zone where you probably won't be the only one slipping. And even if you did, the instructors encourage everyone to go at their own pace and take a break whenever they need to. Journeys is a phenomenal Yoga studio in Tallahassee and I'm already planning my next visit. read more

This is a great yoga studio! Your first class is $5 and then every other drop in is $10 (cheaper if you buy a package of some sort). I went to two classes on a recent visit home. The classes were not particularly challenging for advanced yogis (though my brother, taking his first class ever, thought it was very strenuous). The classes are longer in length than many classes which is nice. The studio will let you borrow whatever you need for free, including mats. There are two bathrooms and a large-ish standing area to wait for classes. The teachers are really warm and welcoming, perfect for new students. You should check it out! read more

I heard of this place in November 2013 and decided to check it out since the first class is only $5. I had previously never done any sort of yoga and was admittedly, a bit intimidated. I went to Ashtanga Lite one evening with my roommate and fell in love with the studio - it's calm, peaceful, and almost feels like you're somewhere familiar. After that first visit I was hooked and started going there regularly. The teachers are amazing and extremely helpful because they're genuinely interested in helping you grow. There are mats available to rent at no cost and each class provides blocks and straps. Of all the yoga studios I've been to since, Journeys is still the only place I've found that offers so many different classes, and at such a good price. read more

I take both Gentle Yoga and Intro to Flow classes with Sonia. She is super encouraging and emphasizes working at your own pace and accepting both your strengths and weaknesses. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! Quite possibly one of the very BEST yoga classes I've ever had. I was in Tallahassee briefly for work and needed some class. I certainly wasn't disappointed! Classes are more than affordable, $5 for first timers. I was pleasantly greeted upon arrival and the space is wonderful. Comfy, calming, exactly what you want in a yoga studio. They supply mats, blocks, water, bathrooms... Everything you need! I LOVED my open flow class with Stacy. I'm a very experienced yogi, and I even tried some new things today! Her flow was perfect, with lots of suggestions and modifications. I have never been so sad to have a class end, and am even more sad that I am leaving tomorrow and can't attend another class. This place was WONDERFUL! read more

I loved this studio. I was actually just traveling in Tallahassee and looking for a yoga class. You can beat the $5 first class price. Plus the ambiance was lovely - after I paid, the front desk lady who was also the teacher gave me a tour of the studio. I felt very welcomed. The other students were also quite friendly. I do love the instructors and classes here, but the class sizes have become unbearable. In a room designed to fit 15 people, they will continue to cram in people until you're two inches away from your neighbor. I come to class to relax and exercise. It's impossible to do either of those things when you can't stretch your arms or legs in any direction without hitting someone. I like that their online reservation system shows you how many people have signed up for class, but it's pointless because so few people use it. The website will say four people have signed up, but when you arrive there are thirty people packed in already. I wish they would start turning people away before it gets claustrophobic because it starts to look like a money grab. It's a great studio, the overcrowding problem is a shame. read more
