I'm sorry to write this because they are a small business and have other great reviews. I left a…read moreclarinet at Clemmers in June 2024 for an estimate because it was given to me for my son to start playing in fourth grade in September. In August I stopped by Clemmers in person because I couldn't reach anyone by phone for a while or leave a message. The clarinet had lost the claim ticket and instead of an estimate, it was repaired. It is a Selmar instrument. My end of the claim ticket states after 60 days the store can keep the instrument. I paid $375 for repadding and repairs. The mouthpiece was missing so I returned to Clemmers and they gave me a Bundy mouthpiece with a bent ligature. In February when my son added private lessons in addition to group school lessons the teacher said the keys where not making full contact with the body of the instrument. I took it for an assessment in Pottstown and was told the pads were the wrong size and it was not aligned. I wrote to the owner of Clemmers with this information from the second assessment and left my cell number, email address and home address and no one contacted me. Today I had a few minutes so I stopped by on my way home from work and spoke with the owner. He said I should have brought the instrument back and the person who repaired it the second time was not certified to repair it like his wife is. He said she is one of only 24 people people certified in woodwind repairs. So he cant do anything. Which is probably right. Be careful. My interaction with Clemmers was awful starting when I dropped the instrument off for an estimate.

I would often go to Fretz's as a younger Pooh and gaze at the rows upon rows of books and sheets, rifling through the sections to find what I wanted-- or maybe just to marvel at the impossibly complex advanced works. Fretz's is where I got my Schirmer Edition of Chopin's Nocturnes. After hearing Op9 No1, I resolved that I would learn to play it and that pale yellow book was the catalyst for my love of the art form. I still have that book and despite it's frail condition at this point, I consider it one of my most valuable possessions. Fretz's has more than classical music, though; in fact, probably less than half of their stock is classical. I remember getting copies of Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag, the Forrest Gump theme song, and Billy Joel's Greatest Hits at Fretz's. So whether you enjoy playing jazz, popular, contemporary, and whether you enjoy playing it on guitar, keyboard, or trumpet, chances are they'll be able to help you out. The parking situation can be rough, as Fretz's has a tiny lot that mates up in short order to a very busy route. But when you're dying to get your hands on that book of Beethoven's Sonatas, a little-- errr, a lot of traffic isn't going to deter you.

When I went in, I was immediately greeted and felt welcome. I recently pulled my guitar out of storage and was looking to just get the strings changed. I checked out the website and saw that they charge $30 for a set up which is very reasonable. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. I even got a tour with Matt and it was great talking about music and all. They have lots of really nice guitars and artwork. It's a very comfortable environment and no pressure to buy anything.
