I really wanted this to be a good experience. I called to get my birthday nails done and asked specifically if they had time for designs and extensions but the extensions had to be clear. They don't have nail stickers or add ons or don't do many designs and most importantly they don't have the clear gel I requested .They do only simple nails and offered me chrome but just a simple layer. In no point intime were the designs led to be simple when I booked. I showed about 6 different designs and none were possible. I asked ahead if they had what I needed because I am not allowed to do my nails often due to the delicacy of mine (they're super thin and should refrain from getting them done often) and the one time I go a year I was given in the end a basic gel no design no paint nothing for 71$ I was given a 10 % discount and a sheet mask. I really don't want to be upset but the whole ordeal especially since the staff was so nice but it was a giant waste of time and money. I now have to go to another salon to get them painted and maybe rip off two to get the clear tips. I'm just so disappointed and upset I don't mind spending money as long as the end result is what I asked and if your capabilities aren't there let us know I refuse to spend over 100 for a paint job over long nails I'll just get stick ons for that. read more

As a Christmas present, a few of my colleagues in my department bought me a gift card to Joy Nails & Spa so decided to get a mani today ! I'm a fan. Service was great and Sunny did a great job with my nails. The complimentary beverage was a nice touch ! I sipped on my latte as I waited for my nails to dry. Each table has an air vent so you don't even have to move. Like many other nail salons, a chick flick was on the screen. Thanks to my colleagues, I still have a few more mani's at Joy. Joy Nails & Spa is a beautiful space, it is clean, bright, and inviting. I live in the area and would often walk past Joy nails, but had never took the opportunity to go in and book an appointment. So the other day when it was rainy and chilly, I decided to treat myself to a pedicure. When I walked in I was able to book an appointment right away. Mona was assigned to attend to my feet, she was friendly, gentle and made sure that I was comfortable. I informed her that I get a little ticklish when my feet are pumiced, so she took great care not to be too rough. I was also pleasantly surprised when I was offered a choice of tea, coffee or a smoothie while my feet were being massaged. Who could ask for anything more relaxing? The service at Joy Nails & Spa was excellent, I love my pedicure. I will go back there again, and I recommend an appointment at Joy nails & Spa for someone who would like to treat themselves to a really great pedicure. read more

The prices are quite reasonable (especially for this neighbourhood), they do a great job, and the atmosphere is lovely - if you enjoy a chick-flick with your manicure, which I do. Joy Nails does a lot of things right: massage chairs, complimentary tea/smoothie/latte, and chick flicks on the multiple screens. The day I went, they were showing "Bride Wars." I'd already seen it but who doesn't love a little bitch-fest wedding drama while sipping on a strawberry smoothie? You? OK, then this is not the place for you. I went with three girlfriends for pedicures and I got stuck with the only non-Asian pedicurist. My friends' toes looked amazing while my toenails were unevenly shaped and the polish didn't reach all the way to the cuticles. I know I didn't travel all this way just to get a lazy, half-assed nailjob. Overall, this is a fun place for a group of gal pals to hang out and gab. Those looking for a Zen, meditative spa experience should go elsewhere on the weekend; the chatter of future bride-zillas and their minions is ear-splitting. This place has spoiled me and now I can't go anywhere else. Here are the things I love about Joy Nails, in no particular order: 1) Your nails will get done the way you like. You don't need to argue with your nail technician to do a good job. They will always do a good job, or fix it if it's not to your liking. 2) They use new nail colour. I don't think I've seen a single bottle of old, visibly separating colour on their shelf. 3) It's very, very, very clean, and they use freshly sanitized tools which they unwrap in front of you. 4) The atmosphere is unbeatable--and this is what really sets them apart from other salons. Everyone is so nice and focused on taking care of you. The clients are there to relax. I automatically go into 'decompressing' mode as soon as I walk through the door. 5) You get a complimentary drink [tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water, or smoothie]. I really love this part. 6) They don't have cheesy piano music that most nail salons have. You know what I'm referring to. They have 3-4 screens playing the chick flick du jour with volume, so you can actually watch the movie. 7) The foot massages are great. Enough said. 8) The nail technicians are friendly and professional. If you're chatty, they'll chat with you. If you're not, they'll quietly do their work and let you relax. They seem at ease and happy with what they do. And it's great that they don't chat with eachother while working on you. It's annoying to come into a salon where the nail techs stop what they're doing to chat with eachother, barely paying attention to their paying client. I went for a pedicure there today and I was very happy with the service and the complimentary drink. The fact that they have a move playing too passes the time very well. After moving to downtown Toronto and not being able to find a good nail salon, I decided to trek up to Joy because I was considering making the trip back to Cozy Nails anyway if I couldn't find anything, and this place is very, very slightly closer. It's ok. To be honest, it's kind of like a budget version of Cozy. Everything's a little messier, a little older, a little dirtier. Which isn't to say that it's a dirty spa, but it looks like it does a poor job of imitating Cozy. I made an appointment but had to wait about 15 minutes anyway, which I didn't like. But it was Friday evening, so I let it slide. As usual, whenever I go to spas & nail places in Leaside/Forest Hill/those areas, I get stared at because I'm often the only Asian person on the other side of the table. It was the same here, but whatever, I'm kind of getting used to it (as long as I don't receive subpar service, like at NailSense!). I didn't get a offered a drink, which made me sad, but no one around me did either - do they not offer drinks anymore? I got the spa pedicure, which I was told included a foot mask and a 10 minute massage. The foot mask was ok, but didn't really do anything. The one I get at Cozy is super minty and refreshing, so that was kind of disappointing. My massage was nowhere near 10 minutes. It was maybe about 4 minutes long, and there was hardly any pressure exerted. But I've learned my lesson after making the same mistake twice - I will not purchase foot massage time at nail salons anymore, I will go to a reflexologist for that! My esthetician was FROSTY. She pretty much ignored me until she had to ask me to put my feet in/out of the water. But when I started making conversation with her about her, she was receptive and became much nicer. She paid a lot of attention to her work though, which I appreciated. The end result was ok. The callous remover they applied to my feet stung in a couple places - I wasn't aware that I had cracks in my feet! - and the foot file they used was pretty dull, but my feet came out sliiightly softer. The polish application was done well - but my nail polish chipped within a couple hours, which really sucked. Also, the spa pedicure was $39, and the "special" pedicures at Cozy (Allpresan, Gehwol, or Raw Earth) are $35 (plus even Cozy's basic pedi is better than here), so I think it's back up to Lawrence Park I go! Two stars though, for the cuticle work, decent quality (i.e. not watered down) nail polish, the huge washroom, the chocolates at the drying station, and the fact that you can actually hear the movie. *Edited to add: The last few experiences I've had at Cozy Nails was absolutely terrible (see my review) - so I'm in search of another good nail salon again! read more

I've lived here for 45 years & never tried this place around the corner on Eglinton!! Glad I did!! I have an important photo shoot tomorrow (Monday) & want to look my best, so made an appointment this morning for 4pm. I got back from my out-of-town shoot early, so wandered in at 3pm. Looks super!! LOTS of chairs, private rooms & LOTS of staff. No waiting. I was helped the minute I walked in the door & my eyebrows never looked better. Very professional. Without an appointment you can be accommodated but it is so busy! Everyone who works heeded is lovely and professional compared to other experiences I have had. This is not a "cash payment" establishment. There is a drink menu (smoothies or teas) for clients but if you don't ask for it they conveniently don't offer it. Kinda weird because it is really the nice added touch that your clients will remember. This place is clean. While getting your nails doesn't they play Hollywood movies that you can watch! read more

Prices are a slightly more expensive than other places ($42 for basic mani and pedi versus usual $38 for other nail salons in the same area) but overall I was pretty happy with the service here. I didn't have to wait long and found the service to be pretty efficient. They had a girl working on my pedicure and then another girl working on my manicure at the same time. You get a free drink as well although it would have been nice to have been offered this earlier when I was receiving my pedicure...I didn't end up getting it until I was almost done. At the end they brought me to the drying station. My only complaint is that no one came by to check up on my nails after bringing me to the drying station...this is usually the case at other salons. I must have been there for almost 30 minutes and got a bit impatient and just checked it myself and got up and left. read more

They took the time to write me a very thoughtful and heartfelt message, apologizing for the uncharacteristic treatment that I received and reassured me that the manicurist in question would be properly trained so that she can provide the same quality of service that is expected of all their employees. Joy is amazing!! They are very sanitary - each client gets their own box to use and all tools are sterilized and opened up from sealed packages in front of you. They offer you drinks (smoothies, tea, coffee) and play fun movies to keep you enterained and relaxed. Their selection of polishes is as good as it gets, and they always get the new collections the day they come out! I always go to Soue for my pedicures (she gives the best massages ever) and Lam gives great manicues and massages, too! Maria also gives great manis and pedis! I would say most of their staff are great, actually...I don't think I've ever had a bad experience! I had design and some jewls added to my nails which came to a total of $44 after tax, my friend had a basic manicure for $18. We both really liked it. I have been here consistently for several years and love this place! I've almost always been able to get an appointment, they do a fantastic job with mani-pedis and provide complimentary drinks, including some lovely smoothies! Pretty good value for money :) Each mani and pedi comes with a great massage and thorough exfoliation. The staff aren't chatty, which suits me just fine, particularly since there's always some charming movie on the TV screens. They are also very clean - all metal equipment is sterilized and comes in individual packs so that it remains sanitary. I have never seen anything that has made me uncomfortable about the hygiene. I have moved to another neighbourhood and haven't found another place that comes even close, so I plan ahead and get to Joy every time I need my nails done! read more

EVERYONE is so nice, they bring you a drink (you can choose from a coffee drink or a smoothie), there is always some type of chick flick on, and they have bowls of candy. I've spent the summer living near Eglinton & Avenue/Yonge and, as such, I have been to three different nail salons in the area. Joy Nails & Spa was the superior place (by far), and this is mostly due to my experience with Chikako (one of the technicians). As a perfectionist who likes my nails in a particular way, Chikako was the first technician I've had (out of countless in my life) who ensures that your nails are as perfect as possible without much hassle of requesting specifics or pointing out flaws. Her personal standard for quality is obvious, and each biogel fill I had done by her was exactly what I wanted. On top of her talent, she is incredibly lovely in her demeanor and willingness to ensure that you're happy with your experience. The reason I hesitate on giving 5 stars is because it was (at times) very difficult to make appointments / be attended to for a biogel fill. However, when you are able to spend your time here, the movies playing for entertainment, the free drink (tea/coffee/smoothies/etc.), and the complimentary candies (including chocolate) help make up for this. As a result, Joy Nails & Spa is the best nail salon experience that I've had thus far. read more

Came here for a pedicure based on a recommendation. Pretty good. About $4 more than the going rate for other places nearby but you get a complimentary beverage. Unfortunately, nail files are communal and not new for each customer. I have a feeling it's the same for the scrubbers and buffers. Not sure what other cleanliness procedures they slack on as I didnt see any bags freshly opened so I'm hoping everything is fine. they don't have any neon colours but it is midtown after all. Movies playing in the background make it easy to wait, especially while drying. they seem to get pretty busy. I absolutely love this place. They are friendly, attentive to detail, gentle and efficient. You can get shellac done on your nails with any color, which is great because a lot of places only have a small selection of "shellac" colors. Joy is my go-to place for all beauty treatments. Very reasonable prices. Eyebrow wax is fast, good, and lasts a long time! Pedicures last forever. The staff is friendly. The service is not that good. Nelly hurt my toes with a very rough file when she filed off my sparkle polish (at other salons they usually remove it with acetone but she insisted that it wouldn't come off). The manicure wasn't that good either. They don't do a lot of cleaning and cutting off the dead skin. And the price for this kind of service is waaaay too high. I went here after reading the great reviews. I was really disappointed! Extremely expensive for a mediocre job. It cost me 50.00 for a biogel fill... more than I have ever paid for a fill. While I did see staff going around with smoothies and coffee, I was never offered anything in the whole 2 hours that I was there. I waited for at least 20 minutes, even though I had an appointment and they were not busy. Lam was not very friendly and I received a job similar to what you would expect from a cheap 'cash only' nail place. The movie was entertaining, but def not worth 50 bucks!! read more

I was very disappointed with Joy Nails. I was there at 9a this morning for bio gel. I had a french manicure done. I was surprised the white was done by hand and not by air brush. Have no idea how this place got such good ratings from others--get my nails mani/pedi done in a variety of places and have to say this one of the worst. The pedicure is done at speed rate which is the same as many places but at least they understand a bit of English here there is no converstaion just the routine followed. I came here after reading the reviews. I thought it sounded like a great place. Turns out not so great after all. I had a shellac manicure and a pedicure. The pedicure was beautiful no complaints there. The shellac manicure on the other hand was terrible. She ended up making me bleed and then when it was all done it looks really terrible. Lots of bumps all and not very shiny at all. Then I sat in the chair and nobody came to tell me that my toes were dry and that I could go. I just continued to sit there. I finally checked them and they were dry so I could leave. I then went to pay and it was 70 with tip. I have never paid that much ever. I won't be returning there again. read more
