Although I know refurbished anything can have problems straight from the get-go, I didn't expect the laptop to not even attempt to come on. I went to HP.com and tried everything they had for this type of problem. Nothing worked. I don't know how this problem even got out of the front door of Joy Systems. The good part of it all is that after 3 calls I finally got packing slips to send it back. I just hope their replacement actually boots up. read more

I purchased a refurb laptop from Joy Systems that was sold through best buy and we purchased best buys 3 year warranty, well the laptop broke after 2 months of use. We tried to use the warranty through best buy and was told they could not fix the laptop due to the age so the warranty is basically useless. Luckily Joy Systems also gave a 1 year warranty with the laptop and while they also could not repair it due to age they did replace it with a newer version of the laptop we purchased. So far we are happy with Joy Systems and how they were able to help us and the new laptop is working out great. I really hope we do not have any other issues after the year warranty expires through joy systems because the one through best buy that is for 3 years is useless! I ordered a Dell E7440 from Walmart which is refurbished by Joy Systems. The price is very good. The laptop is in good condition in general. It is working as expected except that the 2 lower keys on the touch pad are not sensitive enough to respond. You have to apply big pressure to make them work. Joy Systems customer service offered 2 options - I can either get a replacement keyboard and send back the old one, or send the computer back for repair. I didn't choose either one since I have never torn down any laptop before, and sending the computer back takes the risk of damaging it as well. I am getting used to using the upper keys on the touch pad. The computer is working fine now. read more

Let's start with the good. Laptop arrived in great condition, well packed and undamaged box. Laptop arrived on time as stated. Now the rest of the story... I opened the box and saw it came from Joy Systems, I have sadly dealt with them before and didn't have a lot of hope that this experience would be any better, and they didn't let me down. I plugged in the laptop and booted it up. I got the BIOS screen so display works. It got through the boot up and then it went to a black screen, the mouse pointer was visible and I could move it so display is still working, just nothing on the screen. I gave it about 15 minutes to see if maybe it was just going through some odd Windows steps. Nope still a black screen, I decided maybe they have upgrade their tech support since my last run in with Joy Systems, noooo I was on hold for 1 hour I finally got to be 2nd in queue and the phone rings, so I think great finally talk to tech support Nope just a recording telling me that tech support is busy call back later and I was disconnected. Being slightly tech knowledgeable I decided to look at BIOS, so I rebooted the laptop and ran/booted with HD diagnostics. Laptop boots up and we have the actual desktop now, I shut it down again rebooted without running HD diagnostics and back to the black screen. The battery will say charged to 100%, but as soon as you unplug it it is suddenly down to 10% and shutdown. So after all the fun, I shut down the laptop, contacted NewEgg, and I am returning it. This is the second Craptastic Refurb by Joy Systems I have had to deal with and their nonexistent tech support. First time, my Mom bought a desktop from Walmart that Joy Systems neglected to install any OS when they did the refurb. Such fun calling them 5 times only to be disconnected each time. I am saddened that NewEgg would allow them to distribute anything. They deserve no stars and no money. read more

I found out that it is not Bluetooth compatible, and does seem to have an occasional issue with the external speaker jack, but the staff have been gracious and quite helpful when I called with questions. In August of last year, I purchased an off-lease desktop sold by Joy Systems through Tiger Direct. Within about a month or two, the hard drive started failing, so I contacted Joy Systems, processed the RMA, and got a new hard drive a few days later. Within a month that hard drive failed, too. I called them up and requested that they send me a completely new computer, same model, and they did. I sent back the one I had, and within two days they sent me a different computer. Within 2 days, BIOS wasn't even recognising the hard drive. I called them again, processed the RMA, sent back the computer, and got a new one within 3 days. This was yesterday. Two hours after setting up the computer, it crashed and restarted. I checked the error logs and didn't see anything specific, so I started running diagnostic tests. The SMART test came up pre-fail, with bad and reallocated sectors indicating that the hard drive was dying. I ran several different SMART tests to verify the results, and they all said the same thing. I'm the technician for a small company, and they had thus far paid me more in billable hours to process these RMAs and set up the replacements than the computer was worth in the first place, so I called Joy Systems and let one of their reps have it. I told him to test the next hard drive he sends us, and make sure that there are no bad sectors before sending it. He told me that they do test every hard drive they sell, and that if the hard drive doesn't have "too many bad sectors," they sell it. I asked him if that was standard practice, and he said yes. Which to me is astounding. They are knowingly selling defective products that they know are not going to last for even a fraction of the warranty period, and they process warranty exchanges with more defective products. If that were a mistake, even a recurring mistake I would understand, but that's their standard practice - to sell and distribute hardware that they know is defective. I have been a technician for ten years, and I've lost track of the number of used and refurbished hard drives and computers I've sold, but I would never dare sell a client a defective product. I test them thoroughly before selling them to my clients, and I would never knowingly sell a hard drive with bad sectors. I have dealt with tens of refurbished hardware companies, and they would never knowingly sell defective hardware like that. But this is Joy Systems' standard practice. I no longer have any stake in this. Joy Systems has sent me a hard drive that they tested and guarantee me has no bad sectors, so I'm fine. My problem is that they are still selling defective computers through Tiger Direct to people who might not be technicians, who might now know how to check or what to check for when their computers start crashing, and who won't be able to successfully badger the company into sending actual working hardware replacements. read more

I Just bought a refurbished Lenovo T540p laptop from Staples that was fulfilled by Joy Systems (3rd party seller). The pricing and specs on this unit were exactly what i was looking for to support my wife's upcoming employment needs (online video conferencing/teaching of Chinese children). The unit was delivered quickly and was received in great shape. Packaging was excellent. condition of the unit was excellent, and in every aspect, except one, it functions wonderfully. The one issue i have, which is major, is that in spite of it being advertised to the contrary, it does NOT have a webcam. This unit was clearly advertised to have a webcam, both in the posted photos as well as the written spec sheet, yet it does not. Obviously, since the primary use of this laptop will be video conferencing, this is a game changer (in a bad way). After looking into my return/replacement options and available alternatives at similar prices, we have ultimately elected to keep this unit and purchase a USB Camera to meet the video needs, however, this one issue puts a significant damper on what would otherwise have been a glowing review. UPDATE: Following the above post, representatives from Joy Systems contacted me and readily offered to exchange my unit for one that was properly equipped, as advertised. This was accomplished very quickly and I now have a unit that is exactly what I wanted/ordered. Other than the inconvenience of having to exchange the unit, I am very pleased with the quality, pricing and service I have experienced from Joy Systems.. Bought a refurbished Dell OptiPlex 7010 desktop computer from Joy Systems via Target.com. Unit had some cosmetic issues with a few dents & needed some cleaning. DVD player is difficult to open and gets stuck. It appears to be installed off centered in the opening & needs a little wiggling to get it out. The set up was ease and installing / registering Windows 10 was typical of any computer installation. Unit runs fast & handles multitasking fairly well. Fan is a little loud with occasional minor rattling. Overall, with the exception of the few flaws above, it is faster than the desktop I'm replacing & handles all the task required. read more

Summary: I'm giving 3 starts because of the product. Other than that so far so good. I ordered a refurbished HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Tower from JoySYSTEMS through NEWEGG.COM. The price was okay although I found better prices on eBay.com for the same product. The packaging that the computer was shipped in was great. However, after hooking up the new to me refurbished HP and setting it up I was not too happy, the 2TB hard drive sounded like it was full of beans, making noises. And the computer was slow compared to my laptop that I was trying to upgrade from. This HP EliteDesk had an i7-4770 16GB ram and a noisy 2TB hard drive. I can't say I'm disappointed, but I expected more from the computer for the price I paid for it. It came with a keyboard and mouse which were of okay quality and they worked so that's good. Definitely avoid. I bought a B-Grade refurbished laptop from these guys unintentionally through newegg (I didn't know it wasn't coming from newegg until after the purchase). The laptop I received had scratches from head to toe, sharpie near the keyboard, deep cracks in multiple panels, a bad battery, and it was also missing the LCD latch to close the laptop. When I tried to replace this missing LCD latch, I discovered the majority of the internal screw sockets were snapped off. When I first asked for a replacement, I guess they thought just ignoring me would solve the problem. A few days passed after I received a reply stating they would go ahead with the replacement without anything shipping. At this point I contacted them again to where I was finally informed nothing would happen until they get the bad laptop, to which they hadn't sent me a return label. So I had to ask for a return label twice before finally getting it and shipping the unit out. This was an x-mas gift so I was running out of time as it is now the middle of December. At this point, I contacted them again because tracking shows that they received the defective unit. They said the replacement would ship in 3-5 days. 6 days later, I contacted them cause it had not shipped. They said another 1-2 days. 2 days later it still hadn't shipped, and I could no longer wait. I emailed them asking for a refund which was denied, so I then instructed them to not send the replacement because I was going to do a charge back through my bank. So they send the unit anyway a few days later, after I had already contacted my bank and after it was too late for the holiday. I disputed this for over 3 months with my bank, and ultimately these crooks won because they never agreed to a return. So even though they shipped me the wrong item, and then missed their own shipping deadline twice, because they refused a refund apparently there was nothing my bank could do. So I will just do my best to make sure nobody orders from this company. read more

Nothing but problems with my Dell OptiPlex 9020! Power supply has issues that make it very difficult to power up. Once I was able to power the unit to a start point I found it could not access the boot sector. After several days of trying to contact the Tech Support by phone I called a corporate number and chose option 6 which connected me to a human. I told the individual that I had been trying sto reach "Tech Support" for 3 days only to learn that the phone number that had been provided in the documentation was not currently active. They took my phone number and an hour or so later I received a call from a Technical Support Rep. He told me that it was an easy fix he just had to send me a recovery disk and that it would be to me within two business days. Wrong, it took 8! Once I was able to install the Windows 10 Pro operating system I found that I could not activate the software with Microsoft because no PRODUCT KEY was on the computer (digitally or physically) and there was none on the recovery disk or any of the documentation. I have now spent 6 hour, over 4 business days, on the phone trying to get through to the supposedly now working "Customer Support Line" without speaking to a human! Funny thing is each time I have been on hold for OVER an hour and whatever number the automated system says is my position in the que IT NEVER CHANGES! I sent an email about this to Joy Systems but as of this writing have not heard back! There is NO JOY IN JOY SYSTEMS as far as I am concerned! read more

It's been a massive headache dealing with this company. I ordered an HP EliteBook 8760w that didn't even start up properly. Selling a product that for hundreds of dollars that doesn't even turn on properly is never a good look for a company.I spoke with the tech support people and they told me they'd exchange the computer. They then asked me to send the laptop back and they would either repair or replace. They have had my laptop for over a week with no communication. I have now been on hold for 46 minutes and counting trying to get status and I am still caller number 5 (started out as caller number 10). My husband bought me a refurbished computer from them at Christmas. It broke in the end of June. The computer died and could not be rebooted. Husband contacted by phone the company, the phone rang, was answered and sent to a recorded voice message saying you are caller 2, please hold, then he was hung up on. He called a few times, and this same thing happened. He emailed, they called him back, he explained to the tech what had happened, they said they will attempt to get the information off the memory, and put that into a new refurb they will be sending out if they can't fix mine. They sent a shipping label via email. I shipped it back. They got it, and we got a notice saying they sent out the new refurbished laptop. They sent it FedEx. It sat in FedEx and they wouldn't help us when we tried to call about why we were getting notices the package will be delivered and it is not delivered. This went on for 3 weeks after the laptop was sent by them. I finally called FedEx yet again, and they said they have it, but have no idea where other than it's sitting in a bin, but will deliver it when they can. I live in suburban Detroit. FedEx trucks are delivering all the time. We contacted the tech again, he will see if the tech has the memory still and they will send me another laptop, this time not FedEx. We got another notice from Joy Systems saying they sent the other computer out and it was sent yet again, FEDEX. We got it finally 10 days after that second computer was sent. They did not even attempt to preserve the memory. My dissertation was on there. My microsoft suite was on there. As well as family pictures that will never be seen again. They told us AFTER the fact that they do not send or preserve the memory. After my husband had talked to the technician the first few times on the phone when he asked the tech to call us through emails he had sent. Then, the last person we spoke to today, refused to give us his name, said the memory was unrecoverable, and hung up. He's sorry, but it is not their job, and it clearly says on the shipping label. Well why did your people lie and say they will try to do it, not once, but twice? These people are a sham and care nothing for their customers. The response back when we said we couldn't even access microsoft suites on their new computer was well, you should, but it's not our problem. We bought the subscription extra. NEVER buy from this company. The only reason why they have received a 1 star is that I couldn't give them a zero. They are liars and their product breaks after 6 months of use. read more

The battery life is much lower than I expected (around 4 hours), the backlights on the keyboard looks damaged, and although it runs sufficiently enough for me, I was expecting more based on the descriptions of it. I ordered a refurbished laptop from Joy Systems through WalMart.com. It arrived promptly, and in one piece. That's where the positives end. This was supposed to be a Grade A refurbished laptop, which cost over $400. Industry standards is that computers listed in this condition, should be like new from factory, such as open box, or returns with any damages replaced, so that item is as from factory. Upon inspection, there is a latex skin covering the top, that is wrinkled and peeling in one corner. This would not be necessary if the item was not damaged underneath. There is a deep ding on the top corner of the lid. I have had silver paint come off on my fingers for a week from handling the bottom rim. Yes, PAINT! They could not be bothered to replace a thin plastic strip, but chose to PAINT over any damage! As for function, the touch pad is virtually unusable. when scrolling, the page shoots backwards and randomly zooms in. I had to buy a mouse to be able to scroll. The charging port, and/or the charging cord is not functioning properly. You cannot budge the laptop in the slightest, or the cord comes out. Lastly, it was advertised to come with a smart card reader, which was one of the reasons I chose this particular model. This slot blocked off. I contacted Joy Systems, and was stunned and appalled by the reps statements and suggestions regarding these issues. I was told this is a "USED laptop, and cosmetic issues such as paint, is to be expected". I could exchange the item for the charging port and touch pad issues, but I "there is no guarantee I would get this laptop back; it may be replaced with one in worse cosmetic condition". As for the advertised smart card reader, "if it is blocked off, they didn't refurb it with one, and they would not replace/add it. He blamed Wal Mart, stating that Joy Systems doesn't place the listing and it's description. They very well know what their sales listings look like, and are described as like factory new. NOWHERE does Wal Mart, nor Joy Systems make this known otherwise. His condescending answer: "return to Wal mart for a refund and buy new." I bought a refurbished Thinkpad from Overstock.COM. It was a problem computer from the day I bought it. I waited to long and finally it wouldn't even power on. I called Overstock.com and they said no problem they would take it back. Then they said wait you didn't buy this from us you bought it from one of our suppliers, Joy Systems. I called them and they just kept repeating it's after 90 days, sorry. I wanted to return it and buy a better laptop. They said sure they would be happy to sell me another laptop but we aren't giving you anything for the old computer, it's out of warranty. I said you won't see any more business from me. I called Overstock.com and they apologized for the lack of customer support on Joy's part and gave me $60 for my troubles. Although it's not much money, they didn't have to do anything.
