This unassuming business has a bevy of beve's. The outside and inside are very 'low key'. Nothing fancy about this place, just a vast selection of adult beverages, and the prices are good. They have a large variety of whiskeys, wines, and most other beverages you find at a liquor store. We had pleasant interactions with staff during our visit. One person stocking shelves helped me to find the Vermouth by walking with me over to the area, (not just pointing) and the cashiers were friendly and chatty. Staff and customers were masked up during this visit and there is plexiglass at the registers. The parking lot has plenty of spaces and there are carriages inside if you have a large order to purchase. It is a bit tough getting these carts in and out of the shop, so be prepared to need a bit of help with the two sets of doors, or bring help to carry the packages out of the shop. There are many places to buy your drink making supplies, and if you are looking for a wide selection and good prices, give Joyal's a try. I went just for the Whiskey selection. I needed a gift for a Whiskey man i know. I went in looking for at least one of the brands that I had read about recently online. Out of the 10 or so, they had half of them. That's the best I've found so far as most of the places I've gone have had none of them. I had a few questions about my price point and options and the young guy working there sure seemed to know his stuff. Very friendly & knowledgeable, don't let those tattoos scare you. ;-) read more

Ever since the place got sold by the Joyals to the Patels it's 100% different. They will lie and cheat you. They secretly sell their rare and allocated whiskeys at many times the actual retail price. No such thing as taking care of good customers. If you shop there you will get screwed as I have and my many friends that used to shop there. It's a pretty typical scenario of a liquor store bought out by a family that knows nothing about the business and will fight the customer to make every last dime. read more

I go to this place for the bourbon and rye selection and when I first started going a couple years ago it was AMAZING and I don't throw that work around lightly. In the last 6 months to a year the selection of jaw dropping stuff has really dwindled, I don't know if the store has gained more fans and they just bought up all the stuff you can't find anymore or if the manager Dennis got wind of eBay auctions of some of the stuff sitting on the shelf he could be moving at a higher price than they have it priced at, but now the bottom shelf stuff is more interesting to me than the recent release $70 a bottle small batch/single barrel stuff. They have a ton of scotch but I don't have the funds or willpower to go down that rabbit hole ... The staff except for Dennis doesn't seem to know anything about the more esoteric products so aren't any help but I kind of like the wild west approach to researching and buying so I'm not bothered by this. I always feel out of place when visiting here 'cause it's mostly people buying Coors Light 30 packs, and flavored vodkas and other plebeian swill. read more

Ok, here's the thing: you can small Joyal's before you even enter -- old cigarette, broken booze bottles and old beer topped off with a nice whiff id cigar. But if I can get through the stench, so can you. And let me tell you, it's totally worth it. With prices running a good 20% lower than bottle shops in Providence, I can see why Joyal's has such a loyal following (see what I did there?). I can stock up on my favorite Nero d'Avola, gin and even microbrews for way less than anywhere else I've come across in lil' Rhody. Nice. Sure, it's a bit out of the way and a tad skanky, but if you're in the neighborhood and enjoy a good deal, it's definitely worth a visit. Joyal's is a great little liquor store that I never would have visited had I not moved to the area. Now that I've been, it's the only local store I frequent. I personally buy my liquor in NH, but I come here for the microbrews and cigars. The one drawback is that the micro's are just on the shelf, so give yourself a little time to get them nice and cold. The staff at the counter aren't very conversational, but to be honest once I'm at that stage of the buying process I'm just try to leave. They give good support where it counts and I've been provided with great insights when I'm seeking to try out a new cigar. Joyals has great prices and a large selections on wine's & liquors. They have a good cigar selection and are helpful and knowledgeable about their products. I have never felt unsafe at this store or in the parking lot but I had a employee warn me about keeping my windows down (with nothing visable in the car). I mentioned that nothing was in there worth taking and she said 'Your car is'. So, I guess just be careful as Artic can be a rough area.....don't let it bring down your interest in checking out this store! read more

Holy heck this place had a huge selection of mead AND sake! Most places carry one brand of either- two if your lucky. There were 5 mead brands with multiple varieties within the brands. There were at least 10 sake brands and 2 types that can be served warm (a rarity). The bottles even had serving recommendations. Other reviews weren't kidding about the wall of whiskey. If I was a whiskey drinker I'd probably be super stoked. Will be coming back here when I'm in the area. read more

Was cigar shopping and someone suggested I try this place because they have a large selection of cigars at decent prices. I purchased 2 and came home and had one and placed the other in my humidor for the following weekend. The first i tried was just OK. Close to being on the old side. Did not taste very fresh and although it did not fall apart you knew how it burnt it was not fresh. The Alec Bradley I just lit, 1 week after purchase, was un-smokable. Immediately after opening the package the wrapper started to unravel. I proceeded to light the cigar and within a few drags it cracked and I had to throw it away. Had I still had the receipt I would have absolutely brought it back to get my money back. 2 cigars wasted. read more

Absolutely abysmal. Three staff were standing around talking to each other at the registers. Spent nearly 20 minutes trying to flag someone down. When there was no line, I approached a staff member at the register and she ignored me for at least a minute while she finished her conversation. I very politely asked if they had any Muscadet and she stared at me blank faced, and I couldn't seem to get across that I wanted a type of wine, not one specific vineyard name. I've been here several times before, but I've never been able to speak with any staff members, and my only interaction at the register has been similarly rude. When I couldn't get any sort of answer to my question, I gave up and said I'll go somewhere else-- which was shortly met with "ok, good". read more

RUM! RUM RUM RUM RUM! SO MUCH RUM! Joyal's has the best selection of rum I have ever seen. It also has an excellent selection of tequila, scotch and bourbon (top and bottom shelf), and a few random hard to find odds and ends like falernum. The location isn't super convenient, but if you're looking for some crazy hard to find rhum agricole or spendy single malt, Joyal's is your best bet. They even post their inventory on their website! And yes, I live in Providence and I routinely drive a half hour to shop here, the selection is that good. read more

It's 830 on a Saturday 10/24 and I just went into Joyal's to get some seltzer. I walk up to the counter and the cashier does not even acknowledge me and she is talking with a coworker about butt cheeks. She then scanned my order and did not say one word during the whole transaction to me. No hello, how are you tonight, NOTHING. I usually spend my money here but I will go the extra mile to spend somewhere else because how can I go into an establishment that doesn't even greet me and doesn't even thank me for the business. I know it's only a liquor store but I do expect to be at least greeted with a hello. This was the first time in my life I have bought some thing from somewhere where I never spoke a word, very weird and they will never get my money again! You can thank the lady with the poor customer service for losing my business. Go to any other liquor store, they will definitely make you feel more welcomed than at Joyal's. read more

Probably the best selection of single malt scotch in the state AND some prices as good or better then NH. The site's price listing of scotches is not up to date, but it will give you an idea of how expansive their inventory is. They also have a great selection of other spirits, craft beer and cigars. Everyone has already said they have an amazing selection -especially regarding whiskey- for a relatively small store. But what I like most about Joyal's is the great deals. 10 Cane Rum was 10 dollars cheaper than it was at other local stores. Unbelievable. I just picked up Gentleman Jack for 26.99. That's only a dollar more than many places sell regular Jack No 7. Gentle Jack is 35.00 at a nearby store that I won't name. They also have Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition for 19.99. It's usually over 30.00. Pick it up. You'll find many other great deals here if you look around. read more

I visited Joyal's to purchase a large quantity of higher-grade bottles of wine at attractive prices that Joyal's advertised online (and through winesearcher.com). Joyal's didn't have 2/3rds of the bottles I wanted that were advertised online, or any similarly-priced equivalents. This wasn't a situation where a random selection was unavailable--it was a systemic issue and it's clear Joyal's doesn't keep its online database current (perhaps to bait and switch?). if i had just walked into this store, i'd probably have given it a higher rating. nice selection, nice prices. however i was in from out of town visiting family and i looked at their website before making the trip out there. their website said they had many rare whiskies i had been searching for in stock, so i was excited to pick some up. Of the four i was looking for that they said were in stock, exactly zero were. maybe i should have called ahead and maybe i should have known better, but anyone who knows anything about whisky knows these are rare bottles and to have them on your site as in stock when they weren't felt like a bait and switch. still, if they have what you want you'll get a great price and the staff was very friendly. read more

joyal's is located off the beaten path a bit - in a nondescript building on rt. 117 in west warwick, a few miles west of rt. 2. and if i told you there was any reason to go here other than to buy 30 racks of bud light, i wouldn't blame you if you thought i was pulling your leg. but it'd be your loss, because while you were shelling out $17 for a bottle of wine up at campus, joyals would be selling the same thing for $5 less. wines are broken up by origin, a row dedicated to france, spain, italy, new zealand/australia, etc. and generally there's a pretty good selection. for instance they probably have 50 different bottles just from bordeaux, maybe another 25 from the rhone valley, and so on. some other regions aren't as well represented, and there's definitely no staff member that's gonna chew your ear about the nuances of a particular bottle for five minutes. but if you're comfortable going it on your own, there are a lot of good wines to be found here at good prices. don't see something? one time i mentioned i was looking for a tokaji, which wasn't on any shelf. down to the basement went the manager, only to emerge with a selection of three bottles to choose from. heh. like whisky? good, because they've got about 300 different kinds. i'm not making that up. there are so many single malts available here - more than any other local place that i know of - and their prices are fair. they even have bottles from mothballed distilleries like rosebank and port ellen (if you've got the scratch). some of the more expected single malts are always fairly priced, and at times are up to $20/bottle cheaper than other stores. you'd be foolish not to make the trip. one last note on liquor: they seem to get ridiculous/unbelievable deals on select 1.75 liter bottles. for instance i paid $32 for a 1.75 of woodford reserve. there are other select items that are also priced too low to be true. i almost feel like an idiot posting this, like i might reveal some great secret. don't tell your friends. their cooler beer selection is pretty standard - i get the impression that they sell a LOT (LOT LOT LOT) of budweiser, etc. however there's a whole selection of microbrews unrefrigerated off to the side. i'm not a huge microbrew fan so i can't comment intelligently on the selection, but there's quite a bit to be had and if the rest of the store is any indicator it'd probably be worth your time to investigate it further. i'm docking joyals a star for customer service. these guys know their stuff - they know their inventory - but man you're not gonna get a warm and fuzzy reception. it's right down to business, no farting around with the pleasantries, get it and get out. hey, i'm not looking to make friends, but you are in a service business, ya know? it's not the entire staff, but it seems like the owners - who your questions commonly get deferred to - don't have much time for you. one last thing of note: there is also a cigar section in the back of the store which boasts, i believe, RI's largest cigar selection. i'm not sure if that's true, but i wouldn't doubt it. so rest assured you can take care of all your vices in one place. make the drive from providence or wherever else. it's worth the trip. read more
