The teacher/host was friendly, had good painting tips and guidance, and was very enthusiastic with his work. And dang it, painting is hard! This time it was Starry Night in San Diego. But I went off on a tangent and added a AT-AT, Death Star, Klingon Bird of Prey, a USS Enterprise, Star Destroyer, a Borg Cube, and an Ion Cannon, but no one seems to see that, doh! Unlike the 1st Grade, the teacher did not scold me or give me a "F" for not following instructions. IRONY: We paid $30, but it does not include wine, you still have to buy wine(or whatever) at the venue. Luckily it was still Happy Hour, so I got a beer for only $4. I might have subtracted a star it if it was more expensive, but since they call themselves "Wine and Paint" they should at least include a crappy plastic cup of Charles Shaw or Tisdale. Right? I still had a great time, so I'm going to let that slide... Note: I'm not a single guy, but if you are, this good place to meet girls...the class comprised of about 25 girls, me, and a very bored looking guy dragged here by girlfriend. Just place yourself in strategic spot...you'll have just over 3 hours to turn your small talk into a Facebook Friend Request, or more.

Our instructor, Kay, was excellent. You can tell she really has a passion for this. She was very knowledgeable and helped us each along the way. She gave each student individual attention. Very patient and guided the class well. The studio is cute! As soon as you walk in it was inviting. Lots of projects to draw inspo from. I truly enjoyed the class and will definitely be coming back to try out another class.

Great stress relief for the moms in our group! Love that we can bring our own snacks and beverages (and no corkage fees). There are many paintings on the wall so you can see what others have created. Dora was our instructor and she was great. She took her time showing us how to create our masterpieces! I loved how she reminded us to take a drink to help us relax and not stress over our work! Fun time meeting new people and at the end seeing how different everyone's artwork turned out! Some even took liberties and invented new animals....spotted hyena-giraffe (Sandra!)! Haha Parking is the only issue but if you arrive early you shouldn't have to spend too much time looking. Try parking in the neighborhoods behind the studio. He started with Pastels, he's now onto watercolors and he's excited to go to oils. The reserving of classes is easy. The staff helps you out if you have questions. Shout out to Jelisa!!! (I hope I spelled that correctly). She's been so cool with my kids. The prices are fairly priced. The prices of the supplies are actually better than Amazon. Trust me I've looked. This place is not just for kids. I took some classes here too but unfortunately due to my schedule I had to stop. What's really great is that my son is really learning how create art from the basic foundations. For example, I didn't have extensive art classes, I was pretty much self taught so the way I do things is my way. So my kid sees me do something and says to me, "why don't you try this" and proceeds to show me something he was taught there. Immediately I'm like, "Dang, that would have made it easier." My point is, he's being taught and he's getting it! His artwork has definitely improved and he's super proud of his artwork and that's what's this is about. The classes are about 1-hour long and if you're a parent who likes to wait outside I highly recommend Oceano's on the corner. Get some food and a drink and it'll be your own weekly date. We had the pleasure of having Kimball from Corporate to Canvas come to our office at lunch time to…read moredo a painting session. She got there early to set up everything and she stayed late to clean up and put everything away. She put down a protective plastic sheet to cover tables, chairs, the floor, etc. She set up all the aprons, easels, paint brushes, water bowls, etc. Kimball gave us 2 paintings to choose from. She put on some music and we all started following her helpful instructions on our way to our masterpieces. She led us step by step to paint the beach scene. I had never painted or done one of these things. Kimball is very professional, nice, helpful, and patient. I definitely needed the most help out of everyone. There were 12 of us, and we only had an hour, and it got a little rushed at the end to paint the sign on the beach, but we got done. See posted pics of my masterpiece. This was a fun experience and I look forward to doing this again. If I can do it, anyone can do it. It was nice to do a relaxing stress relieving event at work.

I've been quite fortunate to have painted with several very talented painters who happened to be instructors, as well. The Art Academy has given me the impetus to paint not only more often, but with confidence, especially, at the painting's sometimes difficult initial stages. I dove into the class after having had it recommended by an artist friend of mine. After several years in Stuart's studio class I've learned an entirely new approach to both studio painting and my original goals for plein air techniques.
