Our main concerns before hiring him, as…read morewe told him, we enduring our dog does not become reactive, aggressive, and does not attack children as we have two young kids and children coming in and out often for events. Our first visit Matt told us his dog attacked his child on three different occasions. This didn't sit well with us AT ALL, but we decided to try a second session because we paid $580 and obviously wanted to get what we paid for. The second session I mentioned how our dog was very nippy and I'd like advice how to stop that. During this time he informed me his child just had a birthday party and his wife knew not to do it, but she let their dog out of the crate and he attacked a child. Matt seemed more concerned about his image as he said that it was embarrassing because everybody knew what he did for a living. This didn't sit well with me AT ALL and after discussing with my husband, we agreed that having a dog trainer who owns a reactive dog that attacks children can't possibly give us the tools we require to ensure our dog doesn't become like that. If he's unable to control his own dog then how can his advice and training rollover to his clients dogs? We hired Matt on false pretenses. Had he been upfront and honest with us that he had an out of control dog, then we would have never hired him. He refunded 1/3 of our payment due to him being uncomfortable working with us due to our concerns, which is laughable as we shared valid concerns. We 100% deserve the full refund since he was dishonest when we hired him, because no he could not give us the tools required to ensure our dog wasn't aggressive towards people or children since his dog is reactive dog. I'm truly disgusted by his business and for what he charges for 3 sessions considering he can't even train his own dog. So hire if you want, but be aware Matt has a dog in his home who attacks children so if that's the kind of dog trainer you want then go for it. I personally would rather hire a trainer who can control his own animals though.

We absolutely couldn't be happier with Linda at NJ Fix My Dog and the incredible transformation of…read moreour dog Millie. As first-time dog owners, we tried our best to train Millie on our own, but it just wasn't cutting it. We constantly struggled with obedience and her inability to listen to us, intense pulling when we went on walks, jumping, getting mouthy - the list goes on and on. We felt defeated and insecure - but as soon as we talked with Jean and Linda at NJ Fix My Dog, we felt hopeful! They assured us Millie was the kind of dog that could be helped, and they'd be happy to step in.  Throughout Millie's 2 week bootcamp, we received frequent updates from Linda on Millie's progress, photos, and videos. We missed her but we knew she was in excellent care and learning so much everyday. After the 2 week bootcamp, Linda brought Millie home and we were in shock at how well-behaved, and well-mannered suddenly became. The day she came home, Linda spent over an hour with us going over what Millie learned and how to work with her going forward. She also gave us a full document with an assessment of Millie's overall behavior, how to continue to enforce what she learned, and how encourage her along the way.  Before bootcamp, we dreaded going for a walk with Millie because of how she behaved when she saw other dogs (pulling toward them, whimpering, getting anxious, etc.), and how she walked in general (tugging and zig-zagging the entire walk). Now she walks like an absolute DREAM! Right at our side, a nice little trot, ignores other dogs, people, squirrels - everything! We could walk her all day long now, and we look forward to all our walks! Millie used to ignore us when we called for her, or told her "no" if she was doing something we didn't like, but now her recall skills are excellent and she runs right over to us when we call her. She doesn't even try to attempt the bad behavior she used to do, like jumping, getting mouthy, etc., and instead happily relaxes. Her overall demeanor used to be just a little bit intense, always on the lookout for something to get into - but now she is so calm and seems at east with herself. Linda worked WONDERS! We learned so much about Millie through this process, and we truly feel comfortable with what Linda taught us to help Millie be her best self. We feel like we have the tools we need, and the confidence. We feel the support of NJ Fix My Dog now even after Millie is back home - we know Linda is just a call or text away if we need any help.

We were seeking some help with our 13 week old Lab mix puppy's aggressive play issues…read more(nipping/biting) and other behavioral issues (walking well on leash, not dropping items off floor, ground, etc.). We were fully aware of what a puppy goes through at this age, however, we had never seen a puppy so independent/head strong before. Given we have two young daughters (9 & 5), we wanted to ensure our puppy established a solid behavior foundation. We found Jean & Fix My Dog after unsuccessfully working with a few different trainers online. Within the first 30 minutes of our session with Jean, we had already learned so much about both our new puppy's and our own behaviors. After the hour was over, we were very confident we had found the right place to help us with our puppy training. Given the current pandemic, we hoped to find a trainer that could not only help with the behavioral issues, but also socialize our pup well enough to other dogs, people, children, etc. As a result, Jean paired us up with Christy, a trainer who lives on a lot of land, has dogs and other animals, and plenty of people around to help socialize our pup. We spoke with Christy on the phone to go over her approach, felt great about it, came up with a list of behavioral focus areas, signed a contract, selected a day for Christy to come pick up our puppy, and off she went for 2 weeks! The training process was handled so well.. Christy kept us informed with photos, videos, and lots of daily updates. We were even able to do a few online video sessions to see our puppy and to ask questions about how the training was going. It was 100% clear that our puppy was getting the attention she needed and was being trained as part of a family and not as just another dog in a training facility. (SO IMPORTANT!) We were noticing tremendous progress with our puppy over videos after the first few days of training. When she returned home after the 2 weeks were up, it was almost as if we had a perfectly re-wired puppy. It was absolutely clear that the training was effective and our puppy now had a solid behavioral foundation to work with. Christy and her family were extremely loving with our dog, and were clearly able to address all of the behavioral points we asked for through positive reinforcement and appropriate correction practices. Upon her return, we received many instructional videos and a manual to keep us (owners) in line on how to maintain all of the great work put in place. If you were like us, seeking a trainer to help build a strong behavioral foundation for your puppy, I would HIGHLY recommend Christy @ NJ Fix My Dog. We simply could not have found a better situation both for us and our puppy.

Her reviews were all positive and consistent in their comments, and her rates were listed and extremely reasonable. Karin responded to my inquiry within an hour and we had a scheduled phone call that same evening. She came to our home the next night. When she arrived, she quietly observed our new puppy and our nine-year-old dog, and then gave us detailed instructions on what she wanted us to do. She also had us try some of those instructions while she was still there to guide us. At the end of the visit, we scheduled another session for two weeks from that date. Things are already so much better in our home. Karin got right to the root of our puppy's issues and quickly came up with a plan for us to execute. She is a great communicator and just made everything seem doable. Most importantly, our dogs responded to her immediately. She clearly understands dogs and likes them. It was easy to see that, for her, it was about them as individuals, and not about a set method that she adheres to. From our first conversation, I could see that Karin loves what she does. She is curious, observant, and determined to find a way to help her clients and their dogs to understand each other better and to build relationships based on trust and consistency. She just calms the chaos that having a puppy can sometimes lead to! Do not hesitate to turn to her.

The results spoke for themselves. However, he was quick to demand the full payment, which exceeded $2,000, without any recourse. In a nutshell, we were made to prepay a stranger we met only 20 minutes earlier, who was giving us a typical sale "shpiel" of his company being the best around. What a lie! Apparently, the love for our dog made us forego requisite due diligence and caution in choosing a dog trainer. There was no methodology as to how to train our dog most basic functions. For example, while the first trainer, Dana, kept feeding our dog treats every 2 minutes to make him compliant, the second trainer, Shan.... (forgot her full name) abandoned the "feeding" practice, but suggested to cross the street if the dog was pulling in a different direction during the walk. Contrary "techniques" between the 2 trainers were obvious. After 6 sessions and countless walks and "in-home practices" with and without trainers, our dog did not learn much (in fact, he regressed) and we gave up on Michael's Dog Training because we saw no progress. We realized we were wronged. Bottom line, we strongly do not recommend this business.

As far as my own experience, I used the Dr. from when he had his own practice at Community Animal Hospital in Union Beach for many years. Tired of a brick and mortar he went "on the road". He is very busy with patients and have to call ahead to book an appointment. Granted, if your pet is very ill I would not go here. This is more for lesser issues. The MD. is very knowledge and well read on current diseases and issues. His wife Maria, does manage the appointments and tries to keep the show running smoothly, however I'm sure if you want to speak with the MD instead you could just ask to do same and she will give him the message. The Vet coming to the house is great for someone like me who has a cat that hyperventilates just at the thought of going out the door. If the MD thinks the issue is beyond his pale, he will refer you to a specialist, but will do something in the meantime. He can take blood tests, has meds on board, cut nails, weight, etc. Unfortunately with Covid rules you have to leave the animal with the MD and can't board the bus FOR NOW, but when that changes, it will be very interesting. Maria is quite funny and the two of them together can be quite the comedy show and you'll never get off the bus with their stories and antics ( Don't forget to ask Maria about the talking parrot story). I hope you come away feeling about them the way I do.

I had hired Alan many years ago when I had an anxious dog & the visits I had with him were pleasant…read more& professional and less stressful on my dog because he saw her in his office/RV. I have no idea what has happened since then. I am moving abroad, & called Alan two weeks ago to get gabapentin & health certificates for my two cats to prepare them for travel. In the midst of the craziness of moving, I had forgotten to let him know I had moved across town since last I saw him, which had been a while. When they called to say they were there, the minute I saw the street empty, I knew I had forgotten. I immediately attempted to contact him to let him know my mistake. After attempting to text & call a few times and nobody answering, I waited for him to call me. He eventually did, I apologized & gave him the correct address. Then, instead of hanging up or putting me on hold, he put me on mute. So, for the next few minutes, I got to hear a shouting match between him & his wife/assistant about why Alan didn't confirm my address, & was there parking on my street, & I am calling out 'hello?' but they clearly don't hear me! And points to the wife, because yes, you SHOULD ask to confirm the address of a client you haven't seen in years since you ARE making house calls! Anyway, the wife calls back & I explain to her there is plenty of parking on my street, I am only a couple of minutes away, & BTW, I just heard their argument. In the meantime, they tell me last minute they want to see the cats inside my house instead of in the RV, which I wasn't prepared for and the house is a mess because I am moving. So, they end up examining my cat in the bathroom! I still have no idea why they did this. Finally, we begin to discuss medication, & I want gabapentin in transdermal form, since according to me, knowing my cats, & since according to my pet transport, who does this for a living, that would be easiest & least stressful option. During this convo, the wife has to keep telling Alan to be quiet & let me speak, because he keeps talking over me! Also? The wife/assistant is incredibly unprofessional throughout all this. Yelling, swearing, and going off on tangents about her personal life. It was madness. Alan also pushes back against my request, saying a capsule would be more effective, & I capitulate, since one of my cats does take a capsule, & I think a capsule MAY work. Needless to say, when I get the medication a couple of days later, it does not work. I text Alan telling him this & asking again for transdermal. He pushes back AGAIN saying I should try liquid this time. I say I KNOW liquid won't work because my one cat just spits it back up. In the meantime & throughout this entire process, Alan keeps asking me REPEATEDLY if I am sure about the paperwork I have asked him for, & I have to keep repeating myself, that yes, the paperwork is fine. He IGNORES me, & during this text exchange decides to do his own research & sends me links about travel paperwork that is not relevant to my situation & giving me advice I didn't ask for & know for a fact is incorrect. AND he doesn't call in a NEW prescription, which now needs to go to a compounding pharmacy & will take longer for me to get. I now hear nothing from him all day, so I text & email him again, literally BEGGING him to please just send in a Rx for transdermal gabapentin because that is the best option for me & my cats & my moving date is next week & I need this now ASAP. I give him the website of a compounding pharmacy I already use. So, the next morning, I get a text from Alan saying the website I sent him 'didn't have any information about what they offer & there is no contact info' which is completely INSANE. I sent him the website of a LOCAL pet compounding pharmacy, ofc they have gabapentin available & there are contact numbers on the bottom of the page. So, now at my wit's end, because did I mention I am in the middle of an international move? I just text back, 'try X pharmacy, then'. I get a text back that he will call it in that AFTERNOON. At this point, I have given up. I make an appt with an online vet, get the transdermal gabapentin Rx in 10 minutes, & then fax the Rx to all the local pharmacies I can find so I can get this medicine on time. In the meantime, Alan does NOT wait until the afternoon like he says, & tries to call in the Rx to the 'X' pharmacy I mentioned to him earlier. So, when he called, an Rx for me is already there from another vet. He texts me this, & then complains 'I wasted his time.' What is that saying? Every accusation is a confession? Because I'm pretty sure Alan wasted a business week of MY time by: 1. ignoring my request for transdermal in the first place, 2. doing extra work & research no one asked him to do instead of doing what I WAS ASKING & HIRING him to do. TL;DR? Avoid this guy. The only thing he has got going for him is he does housecalls. Otherwise, worse than useless. Made an already stressful time more stressful.
