I have to be honest--over the past three years, we've visited Joymongers around 20 times. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The location is great and the live music is consistently solid.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, the beer taste is noticeably off. I'm not sure what's affecting the flavor, but it does make me wonder whether the tap lines are being cleaned as regularly as they should be. We've tried them all, the hoppy IPAs, the lighter styles, some ciders and even the dark porters and the issue seems consistent across the board. Five friends who've joined us on different visits have said the same. At this point, I usually just order a margarita instead. I finally came here the other night for a community potluck (camel city supper club) and I had a great time. The open interior filled with tables and adult beverage options of beer, wine, and mixed drinks spoke a "welcome" and "sit awhile" to me. On the evening when I visited, I chose the blackberry cider from Bold Rock Ciders (ABV 4.7%) and took my time and enjoyed the rich flavor as my daughter and I sat just outside on a beautiful evening. Plenty of seats provide a view of the park across the street and a very interesting 3-way intersection. My daughter and I ordered from the That Place in the West End menu using the QR code since they deliver right to the brewery. (I made the mistake of walking to the restaurant itself right next door). The Barrel Hall was a fun and relaxed place to hang out. The service was good and drinks on point, and I liked the option to order food that is delivered. If you weren't aware it is so great having so many choices in breweries locally. Winston Salem has a great many of them and many are close enough to each other to make a transition between them easy enough (bring a DD if you do so). This is our first visit to Joymongers, Wednesday it appears they have bingo which is fun and they are dog friendly, but there were a number of dogs here last night and our pup wanted to play and bark which is against the rules, and for good reason. There was a food truck outside, but you can also bring your own food. There were plenty of long tables inside to share and a very long wraparound bar with seating as well. We decided after tasting a few different ones, I got the stout, which was nice and smooth with a dark richness. My son got the Porter, which I tried and it was good as well. And my wife got the Hefenwizen, one of her favorites which had some nice banana notes. All were good, the guy who served us was a nice guy too. I finally got to go to this Joymongers location. The interior is spacious, and very clean. The female bartender wasn't very attentive, and it wasn't that busy around 5pm this evening. I'm glad a second bartender came in and he was good. I'm not very familiar w this side of Winston-Salem, so not sure if there's parking available nearby. They only have a few spots in front of the bldg. The cider was tasty. I wish I would've had more time to explore the bars in the vicinity but I didn't have much spare time today. read more

Just a small walk away from our dinner at hops burger bar, Joymongers was the perfect place for a night cap! Spacious with super friendly staff, we felt completely at ease relaxing and enjoying some live music. Another one of our local haunts, this place has the only hefeweizen my husband will drink in NC (he's German so he is a little picky) and I cannot get enough of their breakfast stout. The brewery is also in the perfect spot with a great entertaining space. This is definitely a place to go on a lazy afternoon and chill, but they always have great live entertainment so it's great for later evenings as well. This is a cool spot. If you want to come here catch an Uber. Parking is very limited on this busy corner. The beer was very refreshing. I had the Bruxt IPA which is their hazy IPA. Great flavor, mild bitterness, and easy drinking. The place is well designed with an industrial style taproom. They have a lot of strategically placed sound boards everywhere to absorb the echo so it is surprisingly quiet inside. That's a real feat considering it's basically a large room with a high ceiling on a busy corner. You can tell that a lot of thought went into the place, the bartenders are very welcoming and friendly, and the beer is really good. Their pours are large and their prices are very reasonable. We paid $6 each for a generous pint. They have live music sometimes. read more

Our experience was a disaster. I was looking for a venue for a meetup on a Friday night - a social that involved a fun game. I was told Friday nights have live music, so I asked if it would be too loud to have a successful evening. The owner whom I talked to assured me it would be fine, and he was enthusiastic about hosting us. The night of the event, I asked what kind of music was going to play there. I was told it was "jazzy". Okay, jazz would be great background to our fun. The beer menu offers a wide selection of choices from IPA to Bock beers and even ciders, all from regional breweries. The staff is friendly and offer up suggestions on brews based off of your preferences. They have multiple televisions surrounding the outer walls so you can enjoy your favorite teams while chilling out. This is a great place to meet up and hang out when in Winston-Salem. 4.5 stars A really beautiful, dog friendly space where the old Downtown WS CrossFit used to be. Had a very authentic beer hall vibe with open spaces, lots of wood, and plenty of lighting. The bar itself is quite large with ample seating. Big, gorgeous garage bay doors that will make an awesome open air seating area once the weather gets warm. Fun fact- They also have one of the three giant Mighty Mouses that are in the United States- who knew? We went in the second day of their opening and despite there being probably about 100 patrons it didn't seem crowded like Wise Man sometimes does- you have plenty of breathing room. Additionally, and importantly, more than enough clean restrooms for patrons as well. The bartenders were super friendly and again, despite the crowd, wait time for a beer was pretty much non existent. As for the beer we were very happy with the various IPAs and stout. There were about 17 taps to choose from and they vary slightly from the selection of Joymongers in GSO. They also offer wine. They have more adventuresome choices such as a hibiscus wheat and an apple pie dunkle. No food, but there's always delivery from nearby restaurants, Carmine's is right across the street and they do have food trucks as well. Joymongers Barrel Room's specialty is barrel aged beers, high ABV ( we were surprised how many high gravity beers they had) and the beer is intended to take on the flavor and characteristics of not only the wood but the previous contents of the barrel. The only things, which are quite minor, that kept from a 5 Star review was there wasn't a food truck for us day drinkers (it didn't come on site until 6pm and our party left early than we wanted to because we were starving) and not enough board games etc for entertainment- a few corn hole boards and maybe the washer game on a string will do wonders. No flights of beer offered at this time either but you can do 1/2 pours and taste anything you want. Parking wasn't great but hey, it's the West End! Overall very impressed and very happy with the new addition! We will be frequent guests for sure. read more

Been here a few times for a some beers with friends and I've always loved it! The times I have been there have been great live music bands playing there too, so I would highly recommend going while one of these groups are out there playing. The brewery itself is nice and spacious giving plenty of seating option with out the stress of feeling like you are on top of other customers. And the outdoor seating makes for great vibes. Of course... as for the beer, I've enjoyed every beer I've had here. I had the Walloon this time which was like a malty amber ale and I loved it! I was not disappointed, until I had to leave and that was only because of a previous engagement. The servers were friendly and helpful, thank you for both. The beer was delightful and tasted great. Joymongers Barrel House is in the heart of West End, across the street from Hanes Park. It's a wide open warehouse space with shared picnic style tables (including outdoor seating) and a beautiful bar. Parking can be tight, because...West End, but there's usually a spot within a block or so. There's usually a food truck perched outside so you can get your grub on while you get your beer on. The bartenders are all fantastic - friendly and knowledgeable, and good people to boot. And now the beer - Joymongers in Greensboro is the main brewery, but they do their Barrel aging here in Winston at the Barrel Hall. I've yet to have a beer here that I didn't like. JM takes a lighter touch to their beers, yielding well balanced and flavorful brews, including some great dessert beers like their tart cherry. Been a patron of the Joymongers in Greensboro since they opened, but this was my first trip to their Winston Barrel House location. AWESOME place (despite an odd baby shower). Lots of great TVs create a "sportsy" atmosphere, and the rest of the decor was on point for a barrel house. Very industrial. The beer, as I've come to expect from Joymongers is superb. Great range from light to dark with plenty of higher-gravity options. Staff was responsive and knowledgeable. For Fall, they have a fall spice saison, Oktoberfest, and pie spice dunkel. I'm going to use my old man brain for this one. The beer is great. Lots of different brews to choose from. The place is large but not so big that you get lost. I like the acoustic panels hanging from the ceiling that dampen the crowd noise so it was easier to carry on a conversation. It was my first time drinking there and I was there with my coworkers so we have lots of gossip to discuss. There are three restrooms in the back but they aren't hidden so I didn't have to search or even worse, ask where they were. I do have a couple of questions. First I would like to ask the younger folks that like to go to the new beer halls that are cropping up in W-S. Why are you bringing your kids? In my day we left the kids and the dogs at home with the babysitter. The second question is to the owners. Where's the food? Food trucks are fun but unreliable. Not every microbrewery has to be like Foothills or Small Batch and have a full kitchen but it would be nice to get some bar food when there isn't a food truck. All you need is a toaster oven and a refrigerator. You owners think about that and I will check back periodically to monitor your progress. read more

Really really like Joymongers and I'm glad they've added this Winston-Salem location. I'm consistently amazed with the wide selection of beers that they have available (usually 12-16). The service is always top notch and they've always got a food truck outside if you need a snack at night. They've got a great niche location in the West End with street parking that's usually easy to find. Big open space with long tables accommodates groups of various sizes. The tiniest grumble: if there is live music it can get proudly loud inside (understandably). If you're looking to go and chat with friends, just check their schedule and maybe plan to hangout outside. A neat outdoor/indoor beer hall located right in the heart of downtown. They open the garage doors when it's nice, and that allows for a lot of open air freedom on where you sit. It makes those indoor seats seem outdoors and enjoying the beautiful weather. I'm not much on beer, in fact I can't stand it!
