We stopped in after a hockey game on a Saturday night to check this place out as it was on our route home. We have always wanted to try this place out seeing it many times off of the roadway and it looked interesting because it was a converted gas station. As we parked and approached campus gas we noted that there was plenty of outdoor seating, primarily wooden benches, tables and places to lounge around outside near the fire pit. There were people enjoying a drink and playing a lively game of cornhole. We strolled around then went inside to explore what the business had to offer in the way of drinks and maybe get something to eat. As it turned out, it was around 9 o'clock, and the lady that came out from the kitchen told me that the kitchen was closed for the evening so we weren't able to get any food at that time so we walked around inside and looked at the small things for sale and the decorations saw the nice high top bar and chairs and since things were winding down, we decided to leave instead of having something to drink. We didn't see a bartender or someone to serve us a drink anyway. So as it stands, we'll have to come back by some other time and check it out. My wife and I pass this place every late afternoon during our daily walk and finally decided to stop in and check it out. It's an old-style gas station you'd expect to find on Route 66 that has been converted into what I'll call a local pub. It's got some simple comfort foods to go along with a wide variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Barstool table seating inside with picnic tables outside. They've got a cornhole set outside to complete the backyard picnic feel, and I've even seen customers seated with their dogs. Very cool. My wife and I were cheerfully greeted when we walked in. We shared an order of chicken tenders and tater tots. My wife got a bottled water, and I picked a NA beer from their selection. Finally, someplace that carries an assortment of NA beers! The food took a while to come out, but this isn't a fast-food joint and it was nice to slow down and have a conversation. The chicken tenders and tater outs were hot and tasted great. Definitely a generous portion of both and I'm glad we got just one order. In summary, the place is nothing fancy. It's just a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy some comfort foods and frosty beverages. It's definitely on our "will return" list. read more

First, the enthusiastic and lovely woman taking orders was a great way to begin the experience. She was by herself taking orders, mixing drinks, and serving. This is a great place right next to Wake Forest's campus, with a limited handful, but still high quality burgers and sandwiches and plenty of drink options. Additionally, the service was amazing, and the workers were nice and they got the food out fast (~10 mins with a decent crowd). Ambiance was solid, with tree trunk tables and a cute burger joint/bar feel. Also, tons of board games if you wanna stay inside and two corn hole sets outside. I have eaten at Campus Gas before, but it's been a while. However, I saw through social media that they were offering a banana pudding now and decided to stop in just for a mid-day snack. As for the banana pudding, it's served cold, old-fashioned style, which I love. It was a bit expensive in my opinion to be $3 for a palm-sized serving. However, if I really just want some of my favorite dessert, I can see myself stopping here to get some, so I hope they continue to offer it. As for Campus Gas as a whole, that's mainly why it's been a while since I've been there. I don't tend to drink, so I don't go for the bar aspect, but rather the food. I feel like for the value of what you're getting, you could get cheaper and better burgers/bar food elsewhere. I think the main draw is the atmosphere since it's a cool location and sometimes they have a fire pit outside at night. If you're going for food alone though, it's worth a try just to see what you think, but it's not a place I personally would frequent. Seven of us came in for a cold beer on a hot afternoon, the air was still as we walked in the door. A lone figure was behind the bar asking what we wanted. Well, that is how it started on Saturday afternoon, the barkeeper said the place was pretty much empty because the students at Wake Forest were on holiday. She said usually the place would be more crowded, but people came in after us. We had a few beers on tap and sat at one of the long wooden benches, I liked the place, but there was not a huge beer selection at the time so maybe on the next visit they will have others. Well, that's a though one as I'm not the intended market. Went there for lunch as I was in the mood for a grilled cheese. I was also in the mood to try a new place. It is the typical college dinner; simple low quality hand food, lot of beers, and all surfaces are sticky.... Didn't care for it beside the cool look an old gas station gives a dinner. Was planning on giving this place a 3 stars but after we all got sick because of their food, I think that 1 star is more than enough. Food was all dry! Burger patty was burnt on both sides, check the pic. For sure, everything is frozen, don't expect freshly made items here. Chicken was very dry, we tried many chicken menu items, and all of them were very dry! The spicy chicken sauce was terrible. Service is not good, regret the 20 percent tip. Please install a paper towel dispenser in your restroom, leaving a roll on a chair is not a good idea. Both bathrooms!!! During a recent trip to Winston-Salem I drove past Campus Gas. It seemed like a cool place so I made sure to go by during my visit. It was kinda late in the evening and I had my nibblings with me during our visit. They grabbed a seat and started playing with the loads of games and toys they have available. The kitchen was closed so I ventured over to the taproom area. After reviewing the menu I decided on the Bull City Ciderworks Gooseberry Galaxy. I got the 12oz pour for $6 and grabbed some glass bottled sodas for the nibblings. The cider was refreshing. It had tropical notes in it with hints of kiwi. I really enjoyed it. The nibblings liked their sodas and I was very happy they had non alcoholic options. The Campus Gas space is very nice. It's very roomy and even has an outdoors seating/games area. During our visit we stayed inside and sat close to the games at the high top tables. There are several refrigerated coolers. I like how there are also wine and cider options for the non beer drinkers. This is a very chill place. I will be back!! I had the best and most delicious brisket sandwich, created by Chef Aaron, that I've ever had anywhere in the world. You must try it! We were wandering around the Winston-Salem area looking for a unique place to catch some NFL action and throwback some brews. Campus Gas came up as a unique option so decided to check it out. They have ample parking. The place looks very new and clean. Outdoor seating was plentiful with some corn hole boards for some added fun. I grabbed a seat at the bar in front of the TV, and the staff kindly turned on the football action. There were several beer taps with local craft, and some bottles in the fridge too if taps aren't to your liking. Wine was also available. The menu spanned hot dogs, burgers, tater tots etc. I already had lunch, but the pimento grilled cheese did peak my interest. Will have to visit again to try the grub. The pricing for everything was quite affordable. They also sell brews to go if you are on the run. First of all, this place isn't closed. The acoustics remind me of a warehouse but it's an alright place. They have food (surprise!) beer and wine. The food menu is limited (hot dog, grilled cheese, egg salad, blt and milkshakes) and currently the place smells of chopped onions... I'm hoping that's a sales tactic and not the scent of a patron. This is the best place to spend a night. Can't go wrong. They are so kind and can never go wrong.

Great location on Polo Rd near WFU. We ordered coffee and hot chocolate, plus bagels, since the burger side wasn't open. Lots of outdoor tables. Love it!! This is an old gas station converted into a beer bar with some food samples. Don't expect a full course dinner but if you want a hot dog and amazing beer with friends-- you need to go here. The staff is amazing and so helpful. I couldn't have dreamed of a better team. Yes, it is close to WFU but I saw more business adults than students. They have enough room for an after hours department wind down or a full-fledged hootenanny.
