We were assigned a designer, Gavy, to create a rather simple cabinet layout design for our pretty straight-forward kitchen. Most new cabinetry was nearly the same or very similar to our existing layout. But Gavy got many things wrong from the first iteration (for example, we all discussed and agreed in our initial meeting that we'd add a small island to our kitchen, that we all accepted the minimal clearances, and that we all agreed adding a peninsula of any kind would not work; the first layout design had a peninsula!). We found Gavy to have limited or no knowledge of design principles to help guide aesthetic decisions, and we ended up specifying our own details for what to include in the layout design and details for the cabinetry choices. Gavy proved to be a salesperson with some training on the layout cad software rather than an actual "designer". We chose our own installer, mainly because after our cabinets were ordered, we had lost trust in BKC. During installation, several serious layout design errors were found and we began multiple rounds of getting BKC to correct these problems, leaving us with a partially-completed kitchen for months. Errors included lack of needed clearance for the built-in freezer/fridge unit and the adjacent microwave handle - the handle would have hit/dented the fridge door upon opening. Other cabinet bases were simply ordered incorrectly (some were also incorrectly manufactured by Eclipse). BKC did finally accept some responsibility for their errors as did (apparently) the cabinet manufacturer. This required endless emails and conference calls, culminating with working through all problems with the CEO/person in charge. Solutions took multiple rounds of ordering cabinet replacements (including entire cabinet boxes worth thousands), multiple installation sessions and overall delays of several months. BKC did work with us through the bitter end of getting almost everything acceptably done. It was painful. It was extremely frustrating and disruptive. It was extremely disappointing. After spending around $50k, we would never recommend BKC for anything, ever, to anyone.

Pros.....Both the installer and service technician were knowledgeable, exceptionally skilled and…read moreprofessional. Cons......The designer was passive/aggressive, detached and disorganized.....which resulted in many, many weeks of delays. These delays came, from the designer, in the form of....poor/no communication; repeated cabinet drawing/rendering errors, scheduled installation changes [by her]; failure to order appropriate cabinet parts/materials. Other than the professionals who installed and serviced the cabinetry this was a long, painful and exhausting experience with BKC. For that reason I would highly recommend they be excluded as a cabinetry vendor option.

Now, being that I loved my new kitchen and flooring so much (love my flooring from Carpet Exchange), I decided to replace my bathroom vanity with Ikea Sektion cabinets. Brian customized the cabinets to fit the space. Because the area for the vanity was not as deep as standard Sektion cabinet, Brian had to trim the pull drawers. Brian refinished the red oak flooring in my 1962 home that I was beautifying for sale. The floors…read morehad never been refinished. My main concern was water damage from a waterbed which warped the boards. I was also concerned that the sanding would leave a ton of dust everywhere. Their "dustless" sanding system really works. And the refinished floors were beautiful. Brian left me 1/2 gallon of poly to finish the raised floor (stairway) of the front, coat closet. That was enough poly to top coat all the doors and door frames I was refinishing. I screwed up at the end of my woodwork finishing and left the lid off the poly. I used a higher end stain for refinishing and figured their poly would work just as well to finish the job (just the FRONT DOOR!). It didn't. My "higher end" poly was awful to work with and the end finish wasn't acceptable to me. Brian praised the poly that he uses and that the finish won't yellow. I will praise his poly as a great finish to work with. In general, Brian was very respectful of my house, did a beautiful job, and uses quality products. I very definitely recommend him and would use him again.

I have been wanting to write a recommendation for Independent Hardwood Floors for a while now as I…read morehad the work completed back in February 2020. Due to some unforeseen health issues, I have not been able until now to get this review completed. Brian, the owner is the one that does all the work from start to finish. He is a real craftsman and cares greatly about the quality of his work. I had water damage from a leaking ice maker and about 14 boards needed replacing completely. Brian had to cut out the old boards and replace with new unfinished Oak boards. Brian also suggested using a different stain than the one we had decided to use. Boy, was he right. The stain he recommended was a much better choice. Brian was always on time each morning and worked each day until each step in his process was finished. Brian had to make several other repairs to the floors before sanding and staining all the main floor. Brian was extremely careful not to get any stain on our new carpets. We couldn't be happier with his quality of work, craftsmanship and dedication to making sure we were 100% satisfied. Brain is easy to work with and willing to handle any additional items, or areas that might need special/extra attention too during the job. And as an added bonus, his quote was one of the better quotes we received for our job. Thanks Brian for the fantastic job!

We engaged them to…read morerefinish our old red oak floors, which had a very dinged-up old finish and areas of water damage, and an extremely orange color that we wanted to get away from. Laura brought many red-oak samples with different stain colors for us to keep in-house for a few days to watch with different lighting until we knew exactly which stain we wanted to go with. (We chose Provincial to give us a pretty mid-brown with a kiss of warmth from the oak coming through.) Alex was always on time, kind, attentive, and hard-working. They were willing to split our job into two phases for us, so that we could move all our furniture from one side of the house to the other for the work to be done. The finished floors are BEAUTIFUL. The color change was exactly what we were looking for, all the water damage is gone, gaps are filled and completely camouflaged with the stain. Our floors feel silky under bare feet (we went with the satin sheen). Most importantly, I had expressed concerns ahead of time about the stain finish on the oak tambour island in the kitchen, which meets the floor without intervening trim, getting messed up during the floor refinishing. Alex worked that area completely by hand, and the result was pristine - the floor around that was refinished perfectly, right up to it, but the tambour staining was not in the least marred. We 100% recommend this small family company, and will return to them in a heartbeat for further services.
