We got a few quotes for replacement, and were disappointed by the cost to redo an underwhelming design. If we were going to invest significant dollars, why not get a more interesting plan using pavers? A few more estimates revealed that design ideas had to come from us..."tell us what you want". Finally, we were referred to Nathan Filip at POE in Elmhurst. After 1 meeting with Nathan and Kevin, we were presented with renderings which were nearly perfect. Their design used 3 different stone types which gave our mid century home an amazing transformation. Every stair included low voltage lighting as did the tiered flower beds. Midway through the project, I decided that I was not happy with the 10 pallets of pavers which were going to be used on the stair landings and driveway. I emailed Nathan who called me within 5 minutes, and was at our home 15 minutes later. After a 30 minute discussion, and looking at a catalog, a new stone was chosen. The new pavers were delivered on the next work day, and the installation continued. I can't say enough good things about the installation crew. They were punctual, polite, neat, fast, efficient, and seemed to enjoy their jobs. The foreman was a master craftsmen who worked harder than anyone....always pleasant in blistering heat or pouring rain. Nathan and Rick were on site often...always willing to answer our questions or provide solutions. They installed our new light fixtures and even added an outdoor counter and pizza oven. Their goal is to please the customer beyond expectations by attention to every detail however small. Many thanks to Nathan for building a beautiful curb appeal which shows how much we love our home. I got hosed by these guys. I reached out in March. I wanted irrigation, landscaping, and lighting…read more They communicated ok, but they move so slow. All along I was telling them that I wanted this done before pool season. I already have the pool and patio (the hard stuff). I wanted to get the finishing touches with plants, lights, and the irrigation. Took weeks to get a design that you have to pay for ($500). All along I said I had $25k budget and they kept telling me they could make it work. Then after we settled on the design they said they had to get a quote for the irrigation (they outsource it), that took another three weeks. Then another three weeks to get the estimate which came in at $39k. Way over budget. They tried to get me to do it in pieces some this year and next because it was so over budget. They said that they underestimated the irrigation. But that was 7k, which means they were over budget before that while all along they were leading me on that they could do the project for my budget. They said they were a bigger company with marketing, a design team, HR, etc which is why they charge a bit of a premium compared to the mom and pop shops. Then my wife wanted to just do it despite my not liking how things were going, so I was going to go with it rather than start over with another search and miss the summer. So I asked when could we start and they said mid-July. That was it. I started this with them in early March, they took forever every step of the way, then they were like this is their busy season. But mid July, the summer is over then I have to deal with that mess during pool season. Never had they told me they couldn't do it early despite me constantly asking and saying I wanted this done before pool season (mind you, it was unseasonably cold for all of May so pool season started later than normal). That was it. They lost my confidence and I felt like they were not being straight with me. Then they blamed it on the new kid I was working with and maybe it was him, but that's their problem that they didn't train him better or stay on top of him while he was learning. But at the end of the day I asked the guy who cuts my grass weekly if he could do the landscape work and he did it; and did a great job (started the next week). I found AV Lighting And Irrigation on Yelp, he did a great job and worked with my landscaper to coordinate the projects. I was done in literally three weeks. Started talking to Mondo and AV in mid May, and was completely done in mid June. Project turned out fantastic, so with the $500 for the POE design, my entire project costs $24k. So under budget. POE's value prop was I pay the premium with them because they handle everything and I get this project managed white glove project, but what I got was delay, over budget, wasted time, and a good design. But if I'm being honest I could've got a similar design from Fiverr and used Mondo and AV and would've been fine. Maybe POE would've done a great job, but they couldn't get out of their own way and they were not worth what they were charging. 24k vs 39k, and I added more sprinkler heads, and the parkway, added more landscape and pergola lights...you decide? I included the finished project photos to prove that they other guys did a great job and I'm not just blasting POE. I'm fair and I don't doubt they'd have done a good job, they dropped the ball with my project.
