Who doesn't like donuts. I sure as hell love the. That's why when I knew I was coming to Parkersburg wv. I knew I needed to find a donut shop. Why not? I'm in a new area and wanted to taste their donuts. This place didn't disappoint. And I didn't know what to expect The building has a whimsical castle design. And the staff was beyond friendly. And did tell me how long they were in business. I was more than shocked when I paid the bill for the items I picked. It's possible they are too cheap. I used to live in the area, and now live out of state, but visit the area often. In all the years that I lived in the Marietta/Parkersburg area, I never tried this bakery out. I decided to finally give it a whirl. I took my granddaughters in on a Friday morning. To my surprise, they don't like donuts, or any type of pastries. But I do! So I got some donuts for my husband and myself, and an apple fritter for my husband, which is his favorite. Parking is extremely limited. Fortunately, I was there kind of early, and was the first to park in the parking lot. But as I was leaving, they started filling up. I could see how it could become an issue later in the day. It isn't that easy getting in and out of the parking lot either, because of oncoming traffic. The bakery is small, but is filled with muffins, cupcakes, cookies, and of course, donuts. They have a very large variety to choose from. The lady behind the counter wasn't exactly friendly, but she wasn't rude either; maybe she was just tired. I told her it was my first time there, so I would need a moment to look over what they offered. In the end, I got the apple fritter, and then a half dozen donuts. We went with two glazed, a blueberry donut, a maple Long John, a S'mores, and a jelly filled. My adult son and daughter-in-law each had a donut; my stepdaughter ate the glazed, I had the jelly filled, and my husband had the s'mores, the blueberry, and the apple fritter. My jelly filled was nicely filled. I go to a lot of bakeries and have an issue with them not putting enough jelly in the inside of the doughnut. This one had plenty of jelly inside. However, everyone agreed that the donuts were dry. Considering how early in the morning we went, I would've expected the freshest donuts available. But I would go as to say that these were made two days prior. My overall impression, the place is cute, staff could be friendlier. They have an abundance of variety, but the donuts are possibly day old, even a couple of days old. Prices were comparable to other bakeries in the area. Unlikely I would visit again. read more

I did some research on the best pepperoni rolls in West Virginia, and JR's was recommended as THE place to go. Although I've never had a pepperoni roll before so don't have any point of comparison, JR's did not disappoint. I tied the mild roll with cheese. The roll was freshly made in house, really fresh and doughy (in a good way). I am told there are two varieties of pepperoni rolls, stick and sliced. These are the sliced variety, and we're really tasty. The place has a lovely, nostalgic feel to it with some old timers (clearly regulars) having coffee at a c corner booth. Very friendly and cozy atmosphere. This was worth the detour off I-77! read more

Cute little donut shop that was a great pit stop on a long road trip. The castle theme on the outside is really fun. Service was quick and they have a decent variety. I didn't notice any specialty donuts specific to this location but choices were good nonetheless. I got a donut and a pepperoni roll. Donut was standard but good. Pepperoni roll was more bread-forward than others I have had. Not bad, just different and felt more like a pepperoni sandwich than roll. JRs Donut Castle has been serving people in the MOV for as long as I've been around. Their donuts are always good and fresh. The employees, although busy, are always courteous. They will also take the time to help you find something you're craving but can't quite put your finger on. Their pepperoni rolls are good (especially the smaller ones) and I've never had a bad donut. Their yum yums are to die for. Go in and check everything out. Only use the drive thru if the lobby isn't open. It smells great in there and there so many items to choose from. read more

Been meaning to try JR's since we've been visiting several times a year going back a few years! So good! Two chocolate creamed filled donuts. A powdered one also filled with cream and a blueberry cake donut. Donuts rocked. The staff was even better. Kind. Sweet. Friendly. We found a tradition when we return to town. For those wondering why we come to Parkersburg: we hit the north bend trail in town where the lab pups chase us on our bikes. They get tired and we bathe them then hit the hotel to chill and everyone is happy. Parkersburg has the loveliest hospitality for a quick wknd getaway. Who knew? See you all again soon! read more

Worst damn pepperoni rolls I've ever eaten. Bought one of their pepperoni rolls with cheese. Upon eating it the bread and pepperoni were OK, but I noticed they had used yellow cheese, which is odd. Most places use mozzarella or jack. But the worst thing about the cheese was IT WASN'T REAL CHEESE! It was some sort of fake American cheese food product. SAD! read more
