I am so glad to have stumbled across this gem of a place. JS Brewery is one of only a handful of makgeolli breweries in the US, so we are extremely fortunate to have them in our area. I'll split my review into two sections, one for kimchi making and the other into the makgeolli. Kimchi Making I had a delightful time visiting them on Nov. 22nd, which happened to coincide with Maryland's Kimchi Day. In celebration of Kimchi Day, JS Brewery hosted a kimchi making session where I not only got to learn about the process of making kimchi, I was able to get hands on in applying the kimchi paste to the cabbage and even got to take a container home of the kimchi I made, which was delicious by the way! And can you guess the secret ingredient in the kimchi paste? Of course -- it's makgeolli! The owners shared that they want to host more cultural events in the future, and I would personally love to see them host kimbap making (and eating!). Makgeolli At JS Brewery, they offer makgeolli tasting, which I've never experienced before. During the tasting, I learned about the history of makgeolli and how their makgeolli is truly different than the store-bought stuff. They have four types of makgeolli as well as a makgeolli slushie, which has yuzu undertones. Overall, this is a really cute spot. The owners are incredibly sweet and knowledgeable, and their passion for makgeolli, and the Korean culture in general, is evident. Will definitely be back for additional events and for more makgeolli!

I was really impressed by their commitment to supporting the community and showcasing other small businesses. That intention shows up in every detail, from the collaborations to the overall vibe. The food was so good. The jerk chicken was a standout, flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the charcuterie board was fresh, well-balanced, and beautifully done. Pair that with their wine cocktails and you're in for a treat. They're creative, well-crafted, and honestly some of my favorite wine-based cocktails I've had. What really sets Boyd Cru apart is that it's family-owned and operated, and they truly make you feel like family while you're there. Warm, welcoming, and intentional. Bonus: the space is also available to rent for private events, which is such a great option for anyone looking to host something intimate and meaningful. Highly recommend stopping by, whether for a tasting, a cocktail, brunch on Sundays or to support a local gem that's doing things the right way.

The whole place is a vibe. The decor is thoughtful, intentional, cozy, and inviting. The staff were welcoming, genuine, and extremely knowledgeable. Whether your are vino virgin or a cultured connoisseur, this spot is unpretentious and overwhelmingly welcome. But make no mistake... these ladies know their way around a grape, and they are well equipped to tell you whatever you need to know about what's in your glass. Let's get into these wines. I highly recommend the flight to get familiar with the different wines they have to offer. The Sparkling Vidal Blanc is not included in the pairing, so go on and get you a glass of that too. Trust me. The "Community" Vidal Blanc is easily one of the best bottles of white that has ever blessed my palate. Crisp, refreshing, full of bright, summery flavors but not too sweet... it's practically begging to be paired with a delicious plate of seafood (preferably one cooked with butter and lots of garlic). This is a great sipping wine, and an even better one to pair with dinner. The "Free Spirit" rose is another great sipping wine. Light, slightly sweet, and full of character, this was also a really great glass of wine. I like my reds a little bolder, so the "Living Legacy" red was not my favorite. It was still a good sip, and if you enjoy reds a little on the lighter side, this might be for you. Still worth a try in my book. Now I love bubbles and the only thing I enjoyed more than the vidal blanc was the sparkling vidal blanc! There's so much character in this bubbly... you'll have to taste and experience it for yourself. For me personally, it's high on the list of the best sparkling wines I've every had. If a plain glass of wine is not your thing, no worries. They also offer a number of wine-based cocktails, as well. In partnership with nearby businesses, the winery offers a limited variety of snacks including charcuterie boards, flatbreads, cake flights, as well as trail mix and popcorn available at the bar. I got the Smith Island Cake flight. While it's definitely not authentic Smith Island Cake, it's good to curb a raging sweet tooth. Speaking of partnerships, the winery also offers products from other local small businesses for sale: spices, body care products, jewelry and other items... So you can sip and shop. A few small areas of improvement I would recommend. -More, bigger and better signage...especially on the street. I was driving all around the area, then roaming all over Savage Mill Shopping Center before I finally found my way. -Provide more parking details, landmarks and directions on the website. (I ended up parking in a nearby neighborhood, only to find that there was a free parking lot available). -Expand snack offerings... perhaps sell individually packaged snacks from local businesses for purchase within the winery. -Consider adding a flight that will allow patrons to try all of the wines available. Shoutout to Eden and the crew for such a fantastic afternoon of good vibes and great wine. I'll be back... and I'm bringing friends!

This winery deserves all the awards and promotion that I've seen all socials .... However, when you know a major dmv social group (dmvdoes ) is hosting an event of 40+ people why is only 1 staff member working the whole night.? Our event experience (paid ) came with a glass of wine for all our guests. The wine was just put on a table without any explanation of the wine , grapes, or legacy. I brought several things for a raffle including the mayor bottle of wine , 2 tastings, and a wine flight for myself. There was no education or discussion about wine. Next, I ordered food and drinks before our event started and I didn't get my food until an hour after I arrived. Next , the suya was so tough I almost choked on a piece of it. The rice was decent but not a winner for me. Lastly, parking is limited to street parking or an outdoor parking lot up the street. It's a cute place to have a social event or a laid back wine meetup but definitely need more staff, wine education for visitors, and better food options.

I came here in September for my birthday and been very hesitant to write a review…read more I forgot how I heard about this place but I was excited because it's the first black owned winery in laurel. I think it's the only winery in Laurel so I definitely wanted to come and support. I first went to check it out and see what information I could get to reserve for a large party. It's kind of located in the cut of main st but there's plenty of street parking. Walk in and you'll see there are two settings. It's very welcoming and warm with beautiful decor and many seating on both sides. I explained to the gentleman what I wanted and he said it shouldn't be no problem just reach out to the events manager. It was a bit last minute, I sent an email on 9/22 to come on 9/28 at 5:30pm (had to confirm the number of people). Just to clarify, we spoke on the phone and email for communication of all information. I noticed they had an event that same day but it started earlier in the day and the events manager told me it should end before my guests arrive. I told her I was having 20 people total and I was ordering two charcuterie boards. Everything was confirmed and good to go as I thought. My guests were letting me know they were arriving but were seated in the smaller area. I was hoping by the time I got there it would be handled but no they already started ordering in the smaller area and the staff there said they were told only 10 people were suppose to come but I showed them the emails. The event they had ran longer than it should have which I wish I would have known just to let my guests know. The staff then tried to fix it but literally a whole hour and half later. Once we got in the event room, we had our charcuterie boards and others order their suya and jollof rice. They did not finish their food, it actually looked dry. Before the day, I was told my guests were not able to do flights but the day of they were able to order. I wanted to order some for the party but it's okay, we all figured out which wine we liked best and a couple bought bottles. To end it, the staff brought out a cute cupcake for my friends to wish me happy birthday. They have a speaker for you to connect if you want to play your own music. Other than that, we had fun. Regardless, I'm going to have fun. I recommend to go and have your own experience. I will definitely come back for a last minute date or just to pick up one of the wine bottles I liked.

With that being said, there's a reason why no one is growing those grapes/making that wine. It really doesn't do well in our area unfortunately, and it shows in the wine. You then have to keep in mind that Maryland isn't exactly known for its wine country, so we don't draw in many good wine makers looking to make a reputation for themselves. It's an unfortunate situation for us Marylanders. My friends who aren't wine drinkers enjoyed their (affordable) tasting. Those of us who are more regular wine drinkers weren't looking to get additional glasses. The setting is beautiful and quiet. We were one of two groups who showed up in the 2-3 hours we were in the tasting room (that's more of a lovely, rustic event hall). Be warned - there's no walking path to the front door. You have to walk through a relatively long stretch of grass to get in. For us, it was a wet, freshly mowed stretch of grass. I'm grateful I didn't wear nice shoes and wouldn't recommend anyone wear any shoes they value here. A stone walkway wouldve been perfect but there isnt one. The wines are served in plastic cups which was fine given the modest setting. Don't expect fine glasses to swirl in. It nearly killed me when the glasses were rinsed with water between samples. They're technically supposed to be rinsed with a small amount of wine because the water will affect the flavor. I only know this from going to many wineries and doing my own tastings with friends at home. Id expect a winery to know this too. If you're looking for a quiet, low key setting to picnic with friends in the area, you should check them out. Personally, I'll stick to VA wineries (that are also 45 minutes from me and have more that suit my taste).
