Service is was fast and efficient. Food was served hot and prepared well. The prices were reasonable. The ambiance was family dining. The only very small thing was the bartender served our wine which was not what we ordered with a tiny infant in a carrier strapped to her front. Stopped in after a work call for some lunch as a buddy had dragged me there. Good service and nice ambiance for SW Rural Iowa. I had a grilled chicken salad with Italian- a very filling salad with ALL of the fixings. Buddy ordered a ribeye sandwich - he claims it's one of the best for a ribeye sandwich. We ate here for lunch after noticing everyone was yelping about the Fried chicken . We were not dis appointed! The Crust was melt-In-your-mouth and yet crispy at the same time , while the meat within was well cooked yet juicy ! Noticing that you got 2 extra pieces getting a 1/2 chicken, rather than a 1/4, for only $1 more ,Grandma and I wisely decided to "share" The 1/2 chicken dinner . Soup, side & even tea or coffee was included in the price ! That's "hometown hospitality "! Speaking of hospitality, the booths are Comfy, the air conditioner is very cool and refreshing & the waitresses could not have been nicer , keeping our water, tea & coffees topped off throughout . They communicated well that the fried chicken was "cooked-to-order" and therefore would take a bit longer than other menu items . All I can say is that it was worth the wait , and I will be back for more fried chicken next time I visit Clarinda,Iowa ! read more

I have only ever been here a few times. Everytime I come with local family who talk very highly. Everytime I try something new. Everytime I am completely satisfied with my food, the family abieance, but this time I felt like I also had a server who really cared a lot about her job. Anita told us she had only had the position for a short time, but I can tell she is already on her way to being a pro. She was prompt and checked on us several times. I was really pleased and I will always recommend J's. Next time we will have to try the Pizza, we've had everything else. read more

The most delicious pizza I've ever had, but on Sunday's buffet there is never enough lemon meringue pie and it's almost always gone by the time I get there, they do that to me right in front of God like I'm some sort of chump. Worst service EVER!!! We waited an hour for a pizza, the waitress forgot to bring my daughters salad until her supper was ready, never came to ask if we wanted any more beer! My husband had to go up to the kitchen to see where our pizza was. Tables that came in 20 minutes after us got their pizza before we did. When we expressed our displeasure to the waitress she says she's sorry but it's pizza night. After that she doesn't come back to our table until we are finished. Never got asked if we wanted Parmesan cheese or pepper flakes. Finally got our check & when the owners wife asked how it was & we told her, we again got the excuse that it's pizza night! I have been there on other pizza nights & have never had to wait an hour! To top it all off, I was planning on buying my aunt a gift card from there for her birthday but after that decided against it! Needless to say we will not be going their anytime soon! Very disappointed that we just got blown off! Must be nice to run a business that you don't have to worry about the experience & service people get! Nice place with good service and even better food. I was in town working and stopped in for lunch. I had the Mo sandwich. Ground siroin with pizza sauce and grilled onions. Nice flavor. Best fried chicken I've had in SW Iowa. Cheeseburger pizza is a second favorite menu item--behind the chicken--at our house. Always hot and fresh. Order takeout and they know you before you even tell them who you are. Most of our takeout orders end with, "We will see you in 15-20 minutes, Jason" before Jason ever tells Carmen who he is. Gotta love local service. This establishment knows how to keep people coming back. read more

Some of the best pizza ever but order ahead for take-out. We've gotten pizza that way from here for years but the kids convinced us to eat in and we had horrible service. It wasn't just from our waitress but all of the staff acted like they were unhappy have customers. Several family members had told us about the poor service before (which is why we always carry out pizza) and sadly we've now learned our lesson. We'll continue to be regular customers but we'll probably never sit at a table again. read more

Cheap food. Always seating available. It is a very drab place that would benefit greatly from a face lift. I have had many items of the menu, but have never gone wrong with American burger with cheese. My wife likes the spaghetti or the ham and pineapple pizza. Grew up in the area and this is by far my favorite restraunt to eat at every time I return home to visit! Love love love the pizza, people, and down home atmosphere! Highly recommend ordering the cheeseburger pizza!! I think it's to bad that a previous person had a bad experience, as my Mom always says though, everyone can have a bad day. I'd like to say that growing up around the owners--they are amazing people--they are super friendly and a part of why my family loves eating here! Went for the first time on a Friday night. Was really excited to try their pizza as it is the only non chain pizza place in SW Iowa. Was seated in a kind and courteous manner and our waitress(Amanda) was excellent. Tipped her at least 25% and she was worth it. Had the house pizza and the crust was crispy and chewy and may have been prefab, but was better than most chains. The topping however were fresh and the cheese was of decent quality. Everything was great until we complimented them on their pizza. We told them it's the only original pizza in SW Iowa in an appreciative manner. To my suprise the guy who was making the pizzas that night (also the owner) snapped back, "oh really is it original?" snidely. I about flipped out on the condescending dbag. If you go there,do not compliment them or at least not the owner. He's an ASSHOLE!!!!! read more
