This is place is just awful. But I guess if you live near by and hungry for Chinese food and probably drunk this is the place to order from since it is better than the other local places. I was only visiting and I usually get Chinese food from Chinatown in Manhattan and Flushing. I was hankering for some Kung Pao chicken and walked the 1/2 block to this shop. Waited a half hour for my Kung Pao. They were busy. Took the Kung Pao home and it was mostly vegetables with 6 like MD chicken nuggets on top of a bunch of rice. Sauce was awful. Ending up tossing it. If that is what Kung Pao looks like at this shop I sure hate to eat the other stuff. read more

This place was located on the corner of my old apt. I ate here religiously. It is a family owner restaurant and probably the best take out in Brooklyn. I moved away to church Ave and I still take the train to go grab this food. As a vegetarian, it is hard to find fresh bean curd and this place makes it the tastiest! okay so this is a reincarnation of a spot that was across the street. The owner reports that they were able to get a good deal in this market and along with the new space came all new equipment and some other new changes. The service here is as good as it gets for fast food. The menu options are pretty good, filled with standard fare, with a lot more patience for special requests then most restaurants of this type. Check out some of the lunch specials or steamed options for a variation on the standard take out Chinese at great prices. This place still has among the latest hours of any place in the area and it has low prices that one would expect from a fast food joint. Unexpected in a neighborhood where virtually all eating establishments are self-segregated, is the wide diversity of patrons who all drop in as regulars, a testament to this place filing a neighborhood need and doing it well. After I am feeling guilty for gorging on high calorie fried menu choices, I console myself with the fact that this place had not one but TWO perfect code inspections -- its spotless. This is my favorite Chinese take-out in the neighborhood, and that's only partially because I love the name. For Chinese take-out, it seems pretty healthy. They don't use too much oil, and the ingredients seem fresh. The best thing I have had so far is their general tsao's chicken. I have tried a few of their vegetarian dishes which have always been a little bit bland, but not bad. I would definitely stick to the classics and not mess around with anything too fancy. so far, the BEST chinese take out i've had since relocating here. you'd think nyc would have ridiculously awesome chinese takeout all over the place, but in my opinion the (specifically takeout) fare is abysmal. j's wong is a little more expensive than the various bullet-proof chinese counters available, but you get more than the difference in expense based on the quality of the food. it's still take-out chinese american, but it's the kind of take-out chinese american that i crave when i normally settle for whatever place dropped a menu through my door. i'm not saying this is the only place i'll ever order from, but it is my number one spot now, with a large gap between it and hing ling (which i think will be my designated cheaper, greasier alternative). the kung po chicken is spicy and delicious and the veggies aren't akin to my southern mother's greens (i.e., they're not just pickled, slimy overcooked mush) and the bean curd and broccoli in garlic sauce is delicious as well. the hot and sour soup was good, and prompted a few laughs when the girlfriend unknowingly chomped into a hot pepper and burned her throat (she's normally extolling how much spice she can handle in her meals, while i am [according to her] not a spicy food eater). also, the portions are great: i'm eating kung po again for lunch today and have another whole dinner and separate snack worth of kung po left in the fridge at home. yay j's wong! read more

I'm new to the Crown Heights area. I've had some really dreadful Chinese food from around here. I usually go to GrubHub, pick the place with the cheapest delivery minimum and go from there. I heard about J's Wong (Why?! God why?!!) from a neighbor and decided to try it. The man that took my order was so pleasant. I asked for beef with broccoli (a classic have of mine) with pork fried rice. I then asked since they serve brown rice, could I have brown pork fried rice. He said it was no problem at all. I was super pumped! He then said "Is that all?" And it was. Then I called back and ordered fried pork dumplings. I've never had them fried, but thought I'd try it out today. 'TWAS ALL MARVELOUS!!! The fried dumplings were very greasy (naturally) but now I know, I just like them steamed. The sauce for it was a tad salty but it was so garlicky, which was a plus for me! I lurve garlic! Nice new place in the neighborhood. They received an 'A' from the health department which is great since I never really expect that from a Chinese take-out place in NYC. When you walk in, the place is very clean and the woman at the front counter is very friendly. The chicken was actual *chicken,* and tasted great- I disagree with the review that says it was hardly anything but dough, there was plenty of chicken. The egg roll was good and had lots of pork in it. The pork fried rice tasted fresh, always a good sign, and again generous with the pork. Your typical New York City Chinese take-out joint. It has the same menu as literally any other fast food Chinese place, prices changed accordingly. I got the Kung Pao chicken with pork fried rice and an egg roll. The chicken was pretty good, it came with a good amount of sauce, and lots of veggies. Not enough chicken though, so that sucked. The rice was....just rice, and the egg roll was deep fried goodness. This is an average place, but most Chinese take-out joints that i've tried in NYC are average, so its not bad. J's Wong is probably the best on Franklin Ave. It's cheap, clean, and consistent, just what you look for in a chinese restaurant. Unfortunately, my tongue isn't as honed as my girlfriend, reviewer Jannie S., when it comes to evaluating the merits of chinese food. I won't be able to elaborate on the thickness of the sesame chicken sauce, or the amount of batter on the fried chicken. The service was quick and the prices are average but the food? Horrible. Yet another neighborhood Chinese food place with crappy food. The wonton soup was just ok, but the rest was terrible. I am not one to throw food away but after eating some of the mei fun, broccoli and bean curd, an eggroll and shrimp "fried rice" (In quotes simple because fried rice should actually be fried and not yellow) I threw it away. Don't know about the rest of the reviewers but I grew up in Brooklyn and can remember when there were only a few Chinese food restaurants around - and they were delicious. Visiting NY from out of town, I wanted some comfort food, and that means Cantonese/Chinese food! This place delivered quickly, the food was pretty good (not too salty), and price was right - $18 got me easily enough food to feed 6 people. Pork and Broccoli is actually BBQ pork (char siew) - yay. The Chicken and Bean sprouts had a huge amount of bean sprouts, which I was happy about. Ma Po tofu was mediocre - tofu in a gloppy brown sauce with sad peas. read more
