They're bedding often has exaggerated floral…read morepatterns that go beyond dated into this sort of fashionable realm...we both really like it and can recognize its odd appeal from spending too much time at our grandmother's houses, I'm sure. I like walking through the Plaza location, it's airy and interesting (although if you aren't a 50 year-old yuppie, don't hold your breath to be greeted at the door.) The prices go above and beyond what I'll be able to afford in bedding for the next 20 years, but a girl can dream can't she? I fell in love with this dreamy classic, romantic-looking cradle with a golden silk canopy draped around the four posts - for a regal baby with wealthy parents. The price tag is like $2,000, but it would look magnificent in a well-planned nursery, a mother's dream crib. Last time I was inside, I was all too coolly ignored...so bad in fact, I wondered why they spent so much effort ignoring some people and not others! And when I walked to the back of the store, I guess I caught their eye because one woman was sent to "check" on me...basically, to see if I was stealing. Oh yes! What I would have loved to take from the towel department (sarcasm)! Beyond this, Scandia Down is a place to escape in. It has beautifully detailed home pieces and a woman who enjoys decorating with an either exotic or old-fashioned flair (they somehow cover both tastes quite well) - would be happy to look around one day while window shopping on the Plaza.

The items at Scandia Down are very posh and over-priced. They have a delightful array of soaps,…read morehand towels, throw pillows and decorative, scented candles, but this is certainly not a place that inspires adjectives like "exciting." There are many objects that are quite lovely, but much of the bedding and decorative linens border on "dowdy" with floral patterns that are anything but youthful. My greatest praise for Scandia Down is for the bed frame that I purchased here. It sits holds the box springs a full 18-inches above the floor, making it possible for a grown man to climb under the bed if necessary. (Anyone who has ever tried to take a reluctant housecat to the vet knows how wonderful this feature might be!) Scandia Down has models of some of the charming metal bedframes on the floor, and a thick catalog from which a bed can be ordered in a variety of styles, sizes and finishes.

George - Small but adorable dog area

So, I'm not quite sure what a "lifestyle store" is, but I think George supports the type of…read morelifestyle I'd like to live. This fantastic boutique doesn't have a ton of merchandise, but I want all of it. Well, not the ladies clothes, as I'm not a crossdresser. But if I were, I'd be a classy one and probably buy my clothes at George, too. Seriously, this store is nice! I'm impressed in particular by three areas: the pet stuff, their books and their dishes. Their little pet corner is small, but adorable. They had really great chew-toys, leashes, collars and dog bowls. The dog bowls would look fantastic in a modern home, and we plan on getting one of the collars for our pooch once her current one starts looking natty. Their collection of books is incredibly well curated. Lots of great cookbooks, cocktail guides and coffee table books. Also, they have a couple of kids books that certain parents would be way into, if you want your kids learning about CoCo Chanel and the like. Their dishes are all VERY nice (and quite expensive) and if I hung out with a higher tax bracket, I'd be hoping for wedding gifts from here. The store is just really pretty, as well. I was equally impressed with their fixtures and general ambiance as I was their merchandise. I'll be back for sure, as soon as I have some extra funds to spend on making my house look extra fancy.

George is on the same level as Manifesto is to drinking and bluestem is to eating.....locally owned with great attention to detail. George is a beautiful, open and fresh boutique and design store. Everything in the store is well thought out and placed with purpose. It's a great destination for a gift, a thoughtful addition to home decor or even just a business to visit for inspiration. Stop by and treat yourself to some visual stimulation and support this locally owned boutique store in the beautiful Crestwood Shops.
