They are also quick responders to any questions. Every aspect of the experience has been perfected. I don't know much about astronomy and figured this tour would help point out some constellations for us. It was SO much more, full of Tony's impassioned stories from different cultures about the stars . His enthusiasm is contagious and knowledge is impressive. The tour is totally unscripted yet packed with great stories and just the right amount of interaction. It is a great and inspiring story how the business was developed. They offer drinks and snacks as well as blankets and gravity chairs, with flameless candles lighting where to step. The two other highlights for us were the UFO military grade goggles that make the stars and planets pop as they did for our ancestors, prior to light pollution. The equipment is clearly state of the art. The slow exposure portrait Tony takes at the end is absolutely beautiful and frameable. I left wanting to do further research on the stars, and would repeat these tours again for sure.

The city of Desert Hot Springs is making a concerted effort to create and maintain great hiking opportunities and Long Canyon Trail is the latest example. My trip out to the trailhead on a weekday offered some interesting sights along the way: two folks engaging in what looked like target practice and another fellow perhaps sampling some natural herbs. If you plan to hike, I'd make sure you go with a group. And don't forget water, sunscreen and a hat. Free parking and no entrance fee.

Booking was quick and easy. Their questionnaire about my experience, preferences, etc was thorough. Pricing was fair. They are conveniently located. And the owners do a lot of good work in the community. Third, my guide- Mike C- was just the absolute best. Relentlessly upbeat, patient with my questions, the essence of calm. This young man cheerfully and gently verbally assisted me beyond several points where I would have just... stopped. He was an excellent safety and technique coach but without his encouragement and, again, unflappable calm, I would not have felt as confident or relaxed. He's very gifted and I'm lucky to have been assigned to him as he crafted an amazing experience. Fourth, food was a real surprise! I expected the barest minimum but it was nicer than anything I would have eaten at home! Overall, if you're wanting to rock climb and need a guide, Cliffhanger is the way to go. I had some difficulty finding the actual trailhead so I just stumbled around until I worked it out. Fine as I got in more miles. Nearly impossible to get lost around here you can see so many geographical markers as you ascend. Would be very hot on a typical day but today on a fairly cool winter day was great.

5 stars Upon…read moreentering the visitor's center, I was greeted by a little museum that NPS is so well-known for. It details the rock formations and the wildlife that can be expected while hiking. Within the visitor's center is a gift shop with gorgeous Joshua Tree Nat'l Park-inspired clothing and products. I recommend purchasing merch here since a portion of proceeds go back to the parks. The souvenirs are also much more affordable than privately-owned gift shops nearby. I bought a pin ($7) and a Travel Stamp sticker ($3.99). The office staff are also very knowledgeable about the area. The young man I spoke to highlighted the areas I asked about - see photo for highlighted map. I wanted short 1-mile hikes along with Heart Rock & Arch Rock. 5/5 stars for service! The restrooms inside are clean and there are also portapotties in the parking lot with outdoor sinks available. Their parking lot is small, but there's plenty of street parking. The entrance to the national park is really close by as well.

It is the one fronting the West entrance to the Park, which is the more popular of the two. It is located before having to pay the park entrance fee. It was manned by two friendly, quite busy volunteer rangers, answering any questions about your visit. We didn't have time to visit the park itself, so took the opportunity to learn a bit more about the park from displays and presentations. As I learned, it is crowded inside (shoulder to shoulder). There is a dedicated parking lot, along with street parking, and a small gift shop. My wife's mom ended up buying a tote bag (or two) to take back home. We didn't get to go inside the park this time, but was able to see plenty of Joshua trees real close, which are only endemic to this area.
