I remember years ago, in my youth, when I was in Little League. Every time we won a game our coach…read moretreated us to a hot dog. Those they sold at the park. It tasted so good. Since then I have enjoyed eating this simple yet very American food. So today when I was looking for a place to eat and saw "Dillons Hot Dogs & More," I decided to stop by and give it a try. Located in the Brookside Shopping Center on 6431 Williamson Road in Roanoke, Virginia, This small, laid back restaurant, is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10:00am to 6:00pm and Fridays until 7:00pm. It serves lunch and dinner. I went on a Friday early evening and the first thing I noticed was how busy it was with people eating there and even more people ordering takeouts. Who seemed to be the owner was up front taking the orders from a counter at that time. He immediately greeted me with a warm welcome and after I told him this was my first time there, and he explained the value meals that included fries and a soda for a set price. I ended up ordering a Bacon Cheeseburger with Fries, and a Coke. And also a Hot Dog with melted cheese, chili, and chopped onions. He told me to take a seat at one of the booths and that he would bring me the food when ready. From the booth I was seated at, I could see the flames cooking the food back in the kitchen. A young lady was cooking at the time with another gentleman helping her back there. They handed me the soda as I waited and I reviewed a small paper menu that I took with me to the table. When the food arrived it looked and tasted very fresh and appetizing. The Burger bun was nice and soft. It contained a good size patty, with fresh lettuce and a nice big slice of tomato. The fries was crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. The bacon on top was plenty and very meaty. And the Hot Dog looked and tasted just fine. It was a regular size good quality meat Hot dog with the right ingredients that give it flavor and served on a fresh and soft Hot Dog roll. I was going to have dessert afterwards because it said they were well known for there homemade desserts, but I only saw two types on the counter and decided not to. This is a good place, nothing fancy, but with good food, for when you're in the mood for good home cooking food. They also have Subs, Sandwiches, and Seafood Baskets. Everything at very reasonable prices. Come alone or bring along family and friends. And be ready for a good meal that will leave you full and satisfied.

Today I ordered a super sonic breakfast burrito and route 44 Diet DP. The girl asked me twice if I…read morewanted DP and I emphasized "diet". I got a regular DP and had to ask that it be changed. My "super sonic" burrito had no eggs, no tomato, no onions - all which make the burrito "super sonic". The wait was ridiculous as well. Employees were cooking without masks or gloves (masks pulled under their chins), but would put masks on when coming to the window. Husband just opened his burrito (sausage) and it had no eggs either. I'm one who extends a lot of grace, especially during COVID. But service and food have been consistently bad at this location for months... no matter the time of day. Note: I do know one of the managers is trying hard to improve the service here. But without proper support and team members who have any type of work ethic, she's facing a tough battle.

I waited in line for over 30 min with only four cars in front of me and multiple cars behind me…read more The line was move at a slow crawl with each overed taking 15+ minutes. Once I made my order for a single combo meal, I moved up very slowly until I was 2 cars back, then I just set with no movement for 30 more minutes. I got out of my truck and walked to the front of the business with no response from the staff who were all in the back with backs turned to me. After this disregard to the customer, I had to drive away without getting my food! I now know why Sonic's are closing; they can't serve customer in a reasonable time. There is no urgency and for this the business model has failed and profits decline. This is truly a sham because Sonic is a staple of America and the food is great when you can get your food. Corporate needs to get a handle on this problem before they lose all of the stores! No one is more disappointed than I am!!! It's sad day and I guess the extra money paid to the employees by increaseing the minium wage as failed to produce quality workers.

After having observed the long lines at their drive through, reading they are opened until 4:00AM,…read moreand asking around: What do you think about Cook Out, and getting a smile and positive reaction, I had to go visit one evening for dinner and experience for myself a dining experience there. Housed in a large brick building near Crossroads in Roanoke, Virginia, the front of the building faces Hershberger Rd and has large windows and an outdoor seating area to use in good weather. On the back side of the building the drive through is located and a large parking lot. The entrance to the restaurant is on its side under a bright red and white sign high above. As I entered the place was very clean and two low walls guided you to the ordering counter. Above the counter is the menu and customers stood there reading the menu and picking their order. When it was my turn to order, the friendly order taker answered some questions I had and I ordered a Burger tray with Onion Rings and Slaw, a Peach Cobler Shake, and an extra Cook Out Hot Dog. The order was efficiently taken and charged and then I moved in front of a window on the side to wait to be called to receive my order. After having my order, I picked a table and went to sit down. Even though the size of the burger was not too big, the bun was fresh and soft, and the beef patty was also very fresh. Later I found out that they make their own meat patties from fresh ground beef daily and distribute them to the restaurant. They are never frozen. The quality of the food and reasonably low price seem to be the key to attracting loyal customers. Watching the happy customers coming in as I was eating, made me think back of my childhood, and how much I would enjoy eating an inexpensive hot dog or hamburger at a cook out. It doesn't take an expensive restaurant or food to have an amazing dining experience. The four onion rings served were also were enough, considering the price. The Peach Cobler was very good but too thick to drink with a straw. I got a spoon and ate it like an ice cream with the spoon. At the end, I enjoyed my dinner, was relatively full, and spent very little money having quality food. And I discovered the secret to all the happy return customers that keep frequenting this restaurant. So for all of the above reasons, I recommend this place. After all, everyone loves a good cook out.
