Before going to Pep Boys, the dealership had checked the vehicle, and another mechanic had recently changed the oil and replaced the brake pads. Neither indicated that my engine needed replacement. When I arrived at Pep Boys, the initial discussion was about repairing the brakes and ABS issue. Later that same day, I was told they discovered a crankshaft-related problem and that I needed an entirely new engine. This sudden change raised serious concerns. My dealership and warranty company also questioned the diagnosis, and the engine replacement has not been approved. I have contacted Pep Boys corporate and opened a formal complaint. I also spoke with a manager at the **Pep Boys location at 1425 W Tennessee St, Tallahassee, FL 32304** regarding my concerns. Unfortunately, I found the interaction very disappointing. During the conversation, the manager repeatedly talked over me, came across as forceful, and did not give me a fair opportunity to fully explain my concerns. I did not feel that my situation was being listened to or treated with the level of care, compassion, and professionalism that a customer should reasonably expect when dealing with a serious and potentially very expensive vehicle repair. My concern is not only about the engine diagnosis but also about how my concerns have been handled. When a customer is suddenly told that a vehicle needs an entire engine replacement, I believe management should be willing to listen, clearly explain the diagnosis, provide supporting documentation, and respond respectfully to reasonable questions. I have not authorized an engine replacement. I am having the vehicle moved to another repair facility for an independent diagnosis. I am also requesting that Pep Boys provide the exact diagnostic codes, testing procedures, inspection results, technician findings, and other documentation supporting the recommendation that my engine needs replacement. I am asking Pep Boys corporate to fully investigate both the diagnosis and the customer service I experienced at **1425 W Tennessee St, Tallahassee, FL 32304**. I would also like a clear explanation of how Pep Boys determined that an engine replacement was necessary when the vehicle was originally brought in for brake and ABS concerns and previous inspections had not identified the need for an engine replacement. Todd greeted me and asked what I was looking for and what services I needed. Shawn performed the oil change and took the time to explain the entire process thoroughly, which I really appreciated. It's rare to find this level of transparency and customer care in automotive service today. They even offered me a cold bottle of water while I waited, and both were kind enough to have a friendly conversation as they worked. Although the service took a bit longer than the usual 10-15 minutes, the outstanding customer service made it absolutely worth it. I don't live in this area, but I truly wish more mechanic shops had a Shawn and a Todd on their team. We brought it to this location since it was only a block from where the event occurred. Firestone did an evaluation of the car and in so doing told us that it would take @$4,000. To fix it. We told them not to repair the car. They had dismantled the car , which made it no longer viable to start. They charged us $469. We told them we were having it towed to another repair shop and then the other repair shop could not put the car back together because specific bolts and components were not present when they received the car. So now the car is not repairable and potentially only goods for sale for parts. We knew that the car might not be affordable for us to repair, but we were able to drive the car the short distance to this particular Firestone.. Firestone ruined the potential salvage price by going ahead and dismantling the car and not putting it back together, or at least returning the necessary components to do so. The car was old but with the original driver. I think an inexperienced team evaluated th car and looked on it as junk or wanted to sabotage the opportunity to give a better estimate for repair.
