I had one of my worst experiences at an auto shop here. My 2017 Kia Forte had a Check Engine Light on. I brought it in, and they said I needed a new VVT solenoid. I went with their recommendation, paid for the part and service, and got my car back, only for the Check Engine Light to still be on with the same P0017 code. I inquired about why it wasn't fixed, and the explanation I got was highly improbable. They said my "sensors broke because the car had sitting from an oil change." That's not how cars work. Sensors do not break from sitting still, and P0017 does not mean anything with regard to a car that is parked. Rather than admitting a misdiagnosis or checking their work, they blamed me. I left and brought my vehicle to AutoZone, where they scanned it and said P0017 came up again - the same code came up immediately after I left them because nothing had changed since my fix, meaning they never repaired anything. Therefore, they did a subpar repair, provided a misleading excuse as to why it was further broken, and then set the blame on me without any justification. Therefore, I did not receive honest or competent services here. I would not recommend this location. read more

I came to this shop on March 22, 2025 to replace the tires on my truck. Not only did it take nearly four hours to complete a job they said would take an hour to do, but they also LOST MY KEY! The manager, Jim, promised he would reimburse me for the cost of the key replacement. I provided the receipt and he said he'd contact corporate to approve the reimbursement. I haven't heard anything since. DO NOT SHOP HERE if you value good customer service or honest work. If Pepboys corporate sees this, you need to replace Jim with a manager who actually cares about representing your brand well. I for one will NEVER use Pepboys again. read more

My husband scheduled an appointment so I could take my daughter's car in for a tire check as it wasn't holding air. The appointment was at 9:30. I showed up, the place is pretty sketchy to begin with...windows busted/taped shut etc. I couldn't figure out how to get in and an employee kinda motioned for the door but didn't say a word. You have to walk into the garage area to get to the door and they definitely do not make it feel welcoming. I went in and explained my daughters tired needed to be check, possibly plugged, but we really weren't sure. He said, very rudely "tired check?" like I'd spoken a foreign language. So I went into more detail...and he cut me off said they had no plugs due to it being parents weekend. Huh? Couldn't even check it. Very rude. Unfortunately for them, I actually needed a new tire so they were out $$...fortunately for me I found a much nicer , safer place where my daughter could pick it up later in the day! read more

I don't recommend any purchase of tire from Pep Boys. They say they provide a tread warranty but actually they do not. Fraudulent advertising. I purchased four Cooper Adventurer tires in April 2021 which came with 75K tread warranty written in my invoice. However, the tires wore out quickly and I reached 2/32 tread level in less than 35K miles, not even the half of the life of the tire. I went to the Pep Boys shop that installed them on West Tennessee Str, Tallahassee to ask about how the tread warranty works. They told me that tread warranty only works if you purchase the Road Hazard protection on top of the purchase of the tires. I did not believe it so I called Pep Boys 1800 corporate hotline. The first agent confirmed my belief and said that the warranty does not require a road hazard purchase. He told me that an area manager would call me soon. Nobody did. I called back 1800 number back three days later and gave the agent my case number and told him that nobody had called me. This time the agent contradicted the first one said that the area manager rejected my case because I should have purchased the additional $78 road hazard warranty on top in order to have this tread warranty. Then I called Cooper Tires customer support line next. Their help desk said manufacturer tread warranty should be available without any additional purchase but added that this Adventurer model is produced by Cooper Tires solely for Pep Boys and thus Pep Boys is the listed manufacturer, so there was nothing they could do. I say this is total BS! In Pep Boys website "Road hazard" explanation explicitly states that it covers "mishaps" on the road, like metal, glass, nail etc. rupture of the tire, which can be repaired or the tire replaced for free. My issue was not a mishap at all. Normal usage of the tire and the tires are worn out less than half its supposed use and Pep Boys decline to honor their warranty. I don't recommend tire purchase from Pep Boys to anyone if you don't want to frauded. I will file a complaint to Better Business Bureau and Florida Dept of Agriculture for fraudulent advertisement. read more

Warning to students and anyone who wants a repair on your car my son brought his car there for an alternator repair. They tried to charge him $619 for the same repair that would've cost $479 at two other local shops they told me they can't charge his battery and they told me his car wouldn't start. Where are the negative stars? Had the worst auto service experience ever. Took my auto in because I had trouble starting it. They claimed I needed a new battery. I authorized it and was charged $299 including a $49 diagnostic fee. When I picked up the car I experienced the same problem The mechanic came out and said I needed a neutral safety switch. For this I was quoted $399 for OEM parts. Requested a price for a after market part. Never received a call beck despite follow up.Incidently a AC diagnosis was quoted @ $110. Contacted Pep Boys corporate to lodge my lodge my complaint of missed diagnosis . Two days later area mgr called me who seemed dismissive insisting that I received a new battery but would call back. A week later no call back. Contacted Firestone on Monroe and Mikes Garage was quoted $250 for the neutral safety switch and $20 for the AC diagnosis by Firestone. Even received call backs. I was a concerned and skeptical father for my daughter in a college town to bring her car in for a repair by herself. Not that my daughter was not able or didn't know how or what her car needed. It is not secret that, at times, car repair facilities have been known to take financial advantage of young people. NOT HERE. Nitro and his crew were absolutely amazing and did an excellent job in helping us with a repair. This shop is professional and it is refreshing to see that they do not take advantage of people. An absolutely abysmal experience from this Pep Boys garage. It started off with total incompetence in the mechanical diagnostics and ended with an epic collapse in customer service. Just a perfect storm of customer dissatisfaction. I had my Audi A4 towed in with a dead battery. Diagnosis - battery was bad and needed to be replaced. The existing battery was 2 months old. I quizzed the service manager heavily that it was highly unusual for a new battery to be defective. He assured me the battery was bad and needed to be replaced. I have worked in a garage and I know what is involved in testing a battery. It is a brainless diagnostic test where you connect the battery leads to a test stand. No subjective interpretation involved; a printed report tells you the exact status of the battery (good, good but needs recharge, or bad). Five days after leaving the garage my battery is dead again. It was another extreme effort to get the car towed back into the garage. Guess what the diagnosis was?!?! - exactly, a bad battery. So, at this point I call back and say I want a refund on the $200 I paid for the original battery replacement. I am told they will look into it and get back to me. Didn't hear back from anyone. Three days later I call back again - "what's up?". Was told they will look into it and get back to me - nothing but crickets. Over the next 3 weeks I called 4 more times (that's 6 times over a 3-week period - never heard back a single time. So, I don't know how to advise future customer, other than to say that the mechanical capabilities of this garage, at the most fundamental level, are simply inept. A couple of hours later I got a call back to go pick up my car and that was that. Everyone was so nice and helpful and it's was really easy! A couple of days after I went back to get my tires retorqued and it took literally 5 minutes. I didn't even have to get out of my car. Overall, very good service! read more

Mechanics don't know what their doing! My son took his car here due to a noise in the rear. He was told the wheel bearings were making noise. He picked up his car, crossed town and the noise was back.... He took it back and they tried telling him it was now the timing belt that was the problem. Luckily he read their BS and left. Took it to another mechanic and the PROBLEM was the DRIVESHAFT U JOINTS!!!!!! Any 1st year auto technician should have been able to know what the problem was by just listening to the noise!!! My engine light came on so I had my car towed there after hours. I went in the mext morning to provide my information and they welcomed me with great service. They topped of my engine oil for no cost at all!! They were super nice and although they could not service my car, since the issue was greater than they could work on, I left with the next steps I should take for fixing my cars oil problem. If it could be less than one star then rest assured it would be. My daughter recently went to this establishment to get her oil changed. She's a college student but she knows what her car needs and always confirms with us before anything. Now mind you, pep boys is well known and trusted it because the training and stores should be the same just like south Florida and northern Tallahassee. Well that was not the case today when she went in for her routine oil change. She informed the gentleman in the front what she needed, simple conventional oil change as that is what we always get her. She was told no multiple times and with a straight forward face told her she needed full synthetic and that's all they do. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they sell conventional motor oil there so why would they lie to her straight faced. Totally unprofessional on their part and I will say condescending. They see a a young teenage girl and they expect them not to know any better and just agree to being finessed. It's upsetting because you begin to wonder how many more college students they ripping off stating they don't do any other oil changes except full synthetic. You can even see from the photo attached which is their location that indeed they do offer conventional oil change. This is the typical ripoff (paying for a brand) with high prices and very low to no service. I took my sons vehicle there after purchasing it off Craigslist to have them check it out. I was told it needed a new oxygen sensor and the AC worked but wasn't blowing cold. I was told I needed to get a compressor. I was charged $943 and within 3 months the AC was not blowing cold again... I took it back to pep boys and was told " their was a leak in one of the tubes and that the entire thing needed to be replaced" when my husband called they told him it needed a compressor because the tube is not sold by itself...got a second opinion and turns out that the AC only needs a charge and they most likely never replaced the compressor the first time...avoid at all cost read more

i had a nightmare experience with these guys. They really don't care about their work and actually try to talk you down in the services they provide. I went in with a coupon that literally said on it applicable at all pep boys and they immediately say we aren't accepting those coupons. So i say fine can I still get a regular oil change and they say sure. so i go across the street to momos for an hour and a half and return. They tell me they can't work on my car because of a blue sealant on the oil pan they don't want to be responsible for if it breaks. I ask why didn't that call me the second they decided and they just shrug. so i say w.e and drive off. The following day Im in traffic in monroe and I smell fire coming out of my car. I pull over and I see oil spewing out of the top of my engine. The oil cap on the top of the engine wasn't replaced. So Im heated and I go back there cussin about, saying that they were negligent and coulda cost me some serious damage or even harm. They don't care. I demand them to replace the rubber engine belt covered in oil and detail the engine and they say the most we will do is hose it off. im livid and pep boys corporate tells me the 24 yo manager ive been constantly having to deal with will handle it so i give up on pep boys entirely, and i end up having my oil changed by tire plus down the street for 19 bucks no coupon necessary and no problems and the ford dealership gave my engine a detail cleaning. in short All pep boys are bad because they do their best to over charge you. Amazing service. I went there every four months for four years, and always had a pleasant experience at a reasonable price.

They are awful at communicating to the customers and between one another. I needed to replace a tire because one of the studs was broken and Walmart refused to touch it. So I go here after and I'm expecting a similar price and hoping they will actually be able to fix it. They take it and start working on it at 4. At 6, they call me to let me know that my alignment is about to fall off and the mechanic told me that he was not going to be able to put the new tire in because it was going to fall. So 5 minutes later, they call me up to pay and they're charging me $70.29 and I ask them for what? And the person checking me out urged me behind the counter for me to see and told me that they did replace the tire. But before I could say anything, he storms out and yells to his workers to put the old tire back and I quote "he has to go home." He then proceeds to put my old tire back on in less than ten minutes. I am stunned because it took them an hour to let me know that my alignment was broken and that they hadn't even put the new tire in yet. Overall, my experience was good up to that point, I think my only issue was with that specific person and their pettiness. However, a leader represents his crew and his actions were not pleasant. read more

I called this Pep Boys Location and was advised that this location has trained master mechanics that have experience with refilling Diesel Exhaust Fluid. I brought my vehicle to this location, which is 98 miles away and paid for an oil change and Diesel Exhaust Fluid, which was approximately $251.00. A few days later my check engine light appeared, I called Pep Boys Store# 1524 and was advised to bring my vehicle back in. My vehicle was checked out and the check engine light was removed. About a week later I received a notification that stated: NO ENGINE Restarts in 248 miles - Incorrect Diesel Exhaust Fluid Quality Detected. I called the store, filed a complaint with corporate, and nothing was done. The Area Manager Ken Bates II never returned my call nor responded to my email. I've requested a refund and after 3 weeks of constantly calling them, I was advised by Clint to get my lawyer because he was advised by CarQuest that the DEF Fluid utilized was adequate for my vehicle, regardless of the NO ENGINE notification. They are unreliable and unaccountable and liars. read more

I went here to get an oil change for my car, the experience was pleasant and it took maybe 30/45 minutes. However, when I got in my car to go buy something I went to get my cash in my center console and it wasn't there. I saw it right before I went to get the oil change and it magically wasn't there. I called the store to mention it and the person on the phone told me that the guy who worked on my car "didn't see any money there". There is no reason they should know if I did have money there since they shouldn't be going in my center console. I was told I could call the store the next day to speak with the manager to look over camera footage, but the person on the phone wasn't willing to help. It wasn't a lot of money so I didn't feel like calling because I felt like I was wasting my time on it, it was just extremely disappointing to know I have to worry about everything in my car after paying for a service. Went to this Pep Boys location this morning looking to fix the plastic protective covering under the front of my car. I snagged it on a parking barrier, and the bolt connecting it to my car had come loose, so the plastic piece was dragging the ground when I drove. I went to Pep Boys, not knowing if it was even something they would be able to fix, but thinking they might have an idea and could at least get a better look at the problem. Within 10 minutes of my being there, they reattached the part with some zip ties free of charge and sent me on my way. I could not be more pleased, and will definitely be returning should I face any problems in the future. read more

Beware- mechanics here don't know what they are doing! I was in town visiting my son and his Ford Explorer overheated and was losing coolant. I have been fixing our cars myself for 20 years, but I was visiting from out of town and did not have my tools or the time to fix it so took it to Pep Boys to have them find the leak. I had a 10 am appointment which apparently doesn't mean anything since they didn't look at the car until 2 pm. When they did look at it they said the radiator cap was leaking and the radiator was also cracked. There was a little bit of coolant on the cap and the radiator. They wanted $950 to replace the radiator. I had replaced the radiator myself 8 months earlier (for $220) so did not think that was the problem and took the car back without having them do any work. After looking at the car myself, it looked like the leak was coming from the water pump...nowhere near the radiator! I wiped off the coolant from the radiator and no more coolant ever appeared there. They must have put it there to "show" there was a radiator leak! I had Tires Plus investigate and they confirmed it was the water pump which they replaced and it has been running fine for 3 weeks now. Watch out for these scammers!! read more
