Decent food but very, very good service. Kev ordered the 3 enchiladas (shredded beef) combo which he liked very much. Tawny ordered the Pozole which was not as good as expected. Pork was hard (not tender) and the soup was not that tasty -- hence the 3 star review. We will come back another time and try other items on the menu. We moved here to Star Valley 5 years ago from Southern California where Mexican food is great. Our first year here we went in and I'll be honest it all tasted like "Gringo Mexican Food ". It was bland and to be honest we have not been back in the past 5 years and we live here on Star Valley Ranch which is only 7 miles away. We travel south to Afton or north to Alpine to get our fix of good Mexican food. I've talked with others here and some people like the food and some agree with me. The staff is helpful and efficient, we got our menus right away and our complimentary chips and salsa followed. The wait wasn't too long, which implied that everything was cooked to order--which I love! The atmosphere is awesome too. If you have a group of people, they can sit you in a totally different room, a great option for family outings. TIPS & TRICKS: * Wear a warm jacket, that's the only downside, it's usually a little chilly inside. * If you can, go on a FRIDAY. Juan only makes his "Tres Leche" dessert then, and trust me, you want to end your experience on that note. * Try the Barbacoa Taco, with onions and cilantro added. What amazing Mexican food in Thayne WY...?? Who would have thought.... Stop here if you ever find yourself out here. The owner and his family are amazing! I had al pastor taco and shredded beef enchilada with queso fresco. So good. My friend had the gorditas with al pastor and the other with bistec! Topped with queso fresco! My other friend had tacos and was in heaven! The only thing missing was a nice cold glass of horchata! I'm telling you this place is freaking outstanding! Wow. Driving back from Jackson to Park City and after days of eating sandwiches while visiting state parks we wanted to stop somewhere good. This was such a pleasant surprise! The chile relleno, which I generally avoid because the less authentic version is normally a deep fried mess of cheese was PERFECT. The kids meals were appropriate and delicious and my husband loved his enchilada. All clearly homemade, and served by Juan himself who seemed to know everyone there. I have given them a 5 star because of they're desserts! All I can say is WOW! SERVICE IS EXCELLENT! FOOD IS GOOD, BUT THE DESSERTS TAKE IT TO A NEW LEVEL! If you go you have to try the Tres Leches Cake. Juan's wife makes it from scratch. Order it before you eat as it sells out quickly, and is only available Thursdays and Fridays! Typical of a lot of restaurants, they are having a hard time finding help in a small town. We entered before 5 pm and two teenagers who tried to serve us were very inept. The manager came out to reconfirm our order. At 5 pm 3 more teenagers came on board and one of them was incredibly good. Very attentive. I ordered Pork Pazole and a chili relleno. Both dishes were excellent. The pazole was spicy with lots of pork chunks and pozole . The relleno was excellent. Though the menu mentioned the possibility of toothpicks in the dish, I think they should have been removed before serving. Homemade corn tortillas were great. There were several seafood dishes. My wife tried the shrimp quesadilla and it was very good. Except got the service mistakes, this is an excellent restaurant. read more

My wife and her family bought a vacation home in the area last year. I saw Juan's on a previous trip and wanted to try it. This trip was the time. Called for take out and the owner took my order and answered a few questions I had. He told me it would be 15 minutes and that was exactly what it took me to get there. Food was ready upon arrival. I ordered the Steak Gordita and Taco combo. My wife had the Shredded Beef Taco and Chicken Enchilada combo. Mine was great. Steak was in tasty chunks and easy to chew. Gordita was crispy and flavorful. Side of rice and beans were what I would expect from a fine Mexican restaurant. Salsa and chips were very good. My wife said hers was excellent and we will order from here again. I'm just sorry we didn't try this on our first night and had time to try it again. We'll be back next trip! read more

Steak on top of a lightly fried corn thingy in the shape of a small indented (to hold the rest of the stuff) pancake. Topped lightly with shredded (thank goodness not melted) Mexican cheese. We were traveling and it was late. The placed closed at 8 pm, but we got there at 8:20 and they let us order and the smells of the place was awesome. The tacos were great, but a little expensive. For the price we expected more then just rice and beans. Also, for that price the food should be placed on a normal plate not on paper plate. One of the tasty aspects was the many styles of salsa from mild to hot. It was great to choose and taste different styles.
