Decided to try some early supper here. Walked in and it was almost half full. The waiters were all high school or college age young men. No one greeted us and there was no sign to say be seated or wait, since they seemed to expect us to just do our thing we seated ourselves. A young man promptly asked what we'd like to drink, another brought chips. We asked for a menu. I came to the conclusion this must be a locals place. We ordered chili con queso, which had a good flavor to it. The chips and salsa were good with the salsa. Having a little bit of spice. We got the chicken fajitas, they had good flavor, they did not come on a sizzling skillet as with many restaurants, it was warm, but wish you would've been a little bit hotter. Also got. Tacos al pastor meal, it comes with five. They were very good, I just wish they were hotter in temperature. The service was friendly and attentive. The place seemed clean. Just average Mexican food. Place run by non Hispanic staff. Food was just ok. Beans were bland. Rice was overly seasoned with cumin. Our first time here and I would not recommend it. Several people came to pick up to go food orders while the cashier was away from the desk. And several servers saw the people standing there and no one ever came to say "someone will be right with you." I guess you don't have a lot of choice in a small town. I told my wife that people always talked about how good Juan's Mexican Food was and we ought to try it sometime. We've probably been by here 100's of times, but have never stopped. It always seems to have a lot of cars here for lunch and dinner! Well, she got off of work early today and we were looking for a different place to have lunch. Your pretty limited in Buna, Silsbee, Kountze, Jasper, and even Lumberton. We've have been to most all of the restaurants several times in this area without going to Beaumont or somewhere else. Well, today was the day! I recommended Juan's after we talked about all the others that we frequented. So Juan's it was! It was the lunch crowd and people had just left opening up a booth once it was cleaned off. We were promptly seated and the nice young lady brought menu's and took our drink orders. I had sweet tea, the wifey ordered water. We both glanced through the menu's and I kept looking at the Juan's Special, or the taco dinner with three tacos and rice and beans. Wasn't sure what the wife had in mind. When the waitress came back and was ready to take our order, the wife antes up and orders the Beef Fajitas at which point I was totally derailed!! I looked at her, them back at the waitress and told her I'd have the same! The wifey looks at me and says, that's not tacos!!! I said yeah, but it sounded good so I thought I'd give them a try too! We also decided to order a large queso as she thought the salsa was kind of hot! I myself thought it was just right with a little bit of a bite! She brought the Queso back to the table very quick and it was pretty good! She left and came right back with our fajita's!!! I thought that was really quick! But then we both noticed they were served on white China plates!!! What!!! We're used to Fajita's being bright to the table of hot sizzling little cat iron serving platters or skillets! I got to looking and the wife sees the same thing I do, where's the Fajitas??? There are pieces of Fajita meat cut up and mixed in with grilled onions and not grilled bell pepper slices. Actually it was more grilled onions than meat!!! It was served with three flour tortillas and a little more than a teaspoon of sour cream and guacamole. Also a small about of pico and one good serving each of rice and beans! I got one of my hot for tortillas and put a scoop of refried beans down the middle along with some rice and added some of the fajita meat (beef) and grilled onions to my tortilla. It was at this point the fajita meat looked more like small chopped slices of the real thing! After being built up reading about how great Juan's was we both felt a little let down. So all I can really say if you think Juan's is good, go try a "REAL" quality Mexican Food Restaurant! You won't go back. It's been a minute since I've visited Juan's Mexican Restaurant and I should be whipped for taking so long. I was there four years ago and James Hernandez (one of the owners) told me I came with a group of friends, what table I sat, and he was the one that waited on our table. You know I was impressed. This family owned restaurant sits on the right as you enter Lumberton from Beaumont. The entire staff is very welcoming and patient as I took forever to order. What was really neat, Juan's has a large tv screen that shows you pics of what some of their favorite dishes look like along with the entrées menu number on the screen. I couldn't stop watching. I finally decided on the Fajita Dinner #14. I chose a mixture of chicken and beef with grilled onions and bell peppers, served with sour cream, guacamole and pico. Food presentation is art and very important to me. It brings the chiefs personality/skill and cultural together and places it on a plate. My food was lovely to look at an even better to eat. Both chicken and beef were incredibly tender and juicy with just the right amount of spices. The grilled onions and peppers sent this dish to the next level. Everything was incredibly good with each bite providing a folk full of comfort and flavor. Their food will please the most demanding of tastebuds. Juan's come highly recommended. If I could I'd give it no stars, I got the cheese potatoes they were soaked in grease! So much grease on the plate I tried to soak up the grease with a paper towel and it didn't help. If you have a fair size family go somewhere else. They had plenty of room and table were big enough. However, they will not let you sit together. I went with all my kids and they wanted me to put some of my small children at another table across the restaurant. Absolutely ridiculous to even ask such. No reason to break up families. Went last night for dinner, feels like a very nice small restaurant. We all got waters to start plus my sister got one mexican coke and she enjoyed it. Chips and salsa arrived and chips looked a little dark but when we tried them they were just how i like them, thin and crunchy at the same time. Salsa was amazing, like how they do individual bowls for each person. Ordered a large queso which was a good price but the flavor was a little lacking, nothing the red sauce can't make up for though. I mixed the two together and it was sooo good! Ordered the beef quesadilla's and i can honestly say they are my new favorite. Will definitely be returning in the future. Juan's has been around for a while and has moved. If you're coming into Lumberton, slow down and don't pass it up! The shredded beef in the burritos is to die for. The white cheese queso is awesome and the guacamole is one of my favorite. It is family owned and always has been. The owner is usually the server and doesn't have time to chat, but you get what you need. The environment consists of different chairs and tables, none of which match, but who cares? After having moved to Lumberton in 2017, I've been on a search for the best Tex-Mex/Mexican restaurant in the area. Juan's is probably the top of my list thus far. I love that Juan's has a good variety of dishes. They have more than the usual beef tacos, nachos, and enchiladas. The pork and al carbon tacos are welcome additions, but I wish the meat was not so dry and difficult to chew. Only once has the meat in the tacos been moist and fresh-tasting, and it was wonderful. The salsa is about average; warm salsa with a little more heat and flavor would make the experience much better. The portion sizes are good, however, and the staff is very nice. Overall, the food is a good value for the money. The dining area is small but clean. It looks like a dive, but the menu is the best among the Tex-Mex/Mexican in the area. read more

Best Mexican food in town. However, I was a bit disappointed with the presentation of their guacamole...it was more like a salad, but was still good. Their salsa was tasty but very generic and watery, like it came out of a #10 can. Service was decent, but the poor waitress kept having accidents and appeared to be the only person running tables. We eat here at least once a week, sometimes twice in one day. This is as close to real Mexican food as you can get in SETX. It is nothing like Casa or Crazy's. I love authentic Mexican food and Juan's is delish! read more

Every time I visit family down there, we have to get tamales from Juan's. They are sooooo good! They have really good quesadilas as well.

I went to Juans with my daughters to try! I always saw lots of cars and heard lots of "Good" things. Well, we sat down, the young server brought us our Menus and out crawled Cockroaches! If you want "Real Mexican food" this would be the place to go in Lumberton. They have Tex-Mex on their menu but they also have some awesome real Mexican food. Their carne Guisada is delicious and so are some of their other Mexican dishes. It's a mom & pop place so it's not fancy at all, It's a very casual and cozy little place. read more

Good variety of great food! The #14 Beef tips is my wife's favorite. I keep trying different things each time. The Fried Cheese Potatoe appetizer is very spicy and unique. Its a small family restaurant so if they get busy be patient. The owner's son is usually the best waiter to get as he is very knowledge and great at recommendations. read more
