Some of the freshest sushi that I have ever had! I absolutely loved the Eel Roll because they do not skimp on the avocado!! I absolutely loved the favor of this roll and I highly recommend it because it's so fresh. I also LOVED the dressing on their house salad. The dressing was a ginger style dressing and it was so flavorful and delicious. Also, I recommend the miso soup, the broth is so smooth and delicious. I also would like to comment on how wonderful the service was. Although I don't live around here, next time I am in the area, I will make sure to spot by! read more

The food and service has gotten so bad here I don't see how they are still in business. The restaurant and bathrooms are dirty all the time. Staff is more often than not on their phones. The service was great, the food left much to be desired. The tuna tataki appetizer was absolutely non edible, it tasted like rotten fish. While the waitress was very kind, she saw we only took one bite and set it on the other side of the table and asked how it was, we told her it was awful and she simply stated "yeah, I'm sorry". Never offered to remove it from the bill. The salads were pretty standard, lettuce and ginger dressing. The samari sushi roll was decent but it was listed under the uncooked side and then came out baked. We did not try the hibachi. read more

I normally don't leave reviews, but the past few times we've eaten here there have been issues. We ordered delivery today and the shrimp inside all 3 of the sushi rolls hadn't been cleaned. My husband and I ended up not even eating what we ordered. We won't be going back. read more

I used to eat here before I moved to Chicago and now that I have moved back to Lumberton, I tried it and I am so happy that it's still just as good. I was worried that I would have to go to Beaumont just to get decent sushi. And Beaumont may have locations with better sushi but the sushi at Kotoyama is far from disappointing. It's a small restaurant but the sushi is so good. It's cheaper than Tokoyo in Beaumont but has the exact same sushi and fried rice. They do not have the hibachi grill but I prefer sushi anyhow. If you have never had sushi try the California roll, Kailua roll, shrimp tempura, and the Obe roll. They are all good and are not raw fish. The miso soup is great and if you go you have to get a bowl of shrimp fried rice, it's the best! read more

When I lived in town and first was exposed to sushi, I could eat a crunch roll or two once a week and die happy. Over the years, I tired of all of the fried, +mayo +"spicy sauce" + "special sauce" options and have a hard time finding a roll here that is good but not overly gluttonous. For now, when I visit town, I always stop in for a Caribbean roll to go. Service is slow and the increasing grime behind the sushi guys keeps me from having a seat and second guessing my decision to order. Kotoyama is the only place I've been where I can get tako/octopus in a roll... And that's the only reason I come back. read more

Well a call in order they said would take twenty minutes took an hour. When the order finally came they missed one of the rolls. You can't get a miso soup and salad with the sashimi, it's one or the other. Just drive ten minutes to Tokyo's you will be much happier. read more

Great place for sushi in Lumberton as long as the owner is there (most lunches). She is awesome, but the night crew is terrible. Their crunch roll is one of the best rivalling even the uni and toro I've had. Very good. read more

The food was fantastic. I arrived at a slow time and my food took 45 minutes. There was rap and hip Hop playing which was off putting considering it's theme. Also one of the waitresses was talking to another customer about vulgar matters in her life "rape and sex." Food was phenomenal! But the atmosphere was crap. read more

It's really convenient having a sushi place in Lumberton. Plus it's tasty. I've only ever had the crunch roll because I'm a creature of habit who sticks with something she likes. I've been getting it since I was a kid, but the last time I went it was only subpar. Maybe it just wasn't a good day, but one mediocre experience won't stop me from coming back. My boyfriend also really liked what he ordered. The only thing that actually annoyed me was that a kid near the cash register (I assume the kid of someone who runs Kotoyama) was playing on some electronic device with the volume turned up loud. The food was really good the problem I have is the manager (I think) was walking around on her cell phone all over the restaurant talking on it and had her daughter there who was running around banging on the front door and yelling while the girls who worked there were trying to keep her occupied but the manager/mother was doing nothing.
