Wow, this was an utter surprise and delight. What an incredible, tasty place. It kind of felt like we were eating at someone's house. We followed the recommendations of other yelpers with the sport plate and also the Suquar Beef and were not disappointed at all. The goat was great, but some folks mentioned the chicken not as flavorful, but it was actually our favorite. Tons of flavor. The chappati was fantastic, flaky and crispy and wonderful to soak up all the sauces and flavors. We got the rice also and it too was super flavorful. For appetizers we got the last sambusa (their version of samosa) and loved the flavor more than samosa's. The wrapper is more delicate and the filling has more flavor. We also tried the sweet fried flour item (don't know what it's called, but it was quite good). We came on a Saturday evening and it was packed and it took a little bit of time to get our food, but it's well worth it. We LOVED this place and highly recommend it (though I hope not too many of you go so it's not even more crowded! :)). We already can't wait to go back. read more

Awesome food, exotic spices and huge portions; what's not to like about this place? Ever since I discovered East African cuisine I have frequented this place every few weeks and it never disappoints. I have tried the beef sugaar, goat cutlet, jumbo steak, and the simbrusa, all are great choices. The portions are seriously huge, it could feed two normal appetites. There is also so much flavor in each dish. Every order also comes with this green sauce, not quite sure what it is but it is quite spicy. The sambrusa (not sure if I spelled that correctly) is similar to an empanada, it's fried, triangular with meet inside. Yum! Came here for lunch with my cousin on a Saturday afternoon. When we came in, there was a really good smell of veggies and meats on the grill which definitely got my attention. Looking at the menu, it was pretty straight forward, while we had the guy explain what some items meant, he was clear and concise. I ordered the sports plate which allows you to choose two meats and whether you want basmati rice or pasta (spaghetti) We waited about 5-10 minutes for food. When it arrived, I literally had heart eyes on my plate, it smelled great, presentation with utensils for two people and that same exact smell of spaghetti and the goat/ chicken that i ordered. The taste of the plate was a different story... it had a home made touch to the food, everything was prepared in moderation, literally perfect amount of ingredients to taste the flavors with each item on the plate. I opted in to take both basmati rice and spaghetti with goat/chicken. My most favorite thing that stands apart from other restaurants. The ability to make me feel like the oil or carbs hasn't weighed me down for the rest of the day. I can say it wasn't oily and the carbs seemed to be prepared clean. I really enjoyed my experience minus the slightly difficult time finding the restaurant. I will be coming back soon and well... you all should too! read more

Worth the wait. We waited some time for our food and we were hungry but I guess that means they make it fresh. We got the sports plate with chicken and beef and I was worried that it would be covered in sauce but it was actually not but still very flavorful. the salad had too much dressing though so I'm going to say have it on the side. Amazeballs! I never say that I know this place is special. Friendly staff, even friendly patrons. Firstly it's a great location with great parking. Then as you approach the door the enticing smell hits you. We ordered the sports platter for our family of three and were only able to eat half. The portions are very generous. The steak is tender and perfectly seasoned. The rice was just ok, I liked the spaghetti, had a traditional flavor with a Somali twist, not bad. I must say the side salad surprised me. At first glance it's minimal but the dressing took this salad to the next level, absolutely delicious. Can't wait to return! This food just isn't my cup of tea.... The chicken kay kay was super sweet. My brain was expecting something savory. They really need to hold back on the cinnamon. The goat was flavorful but overcooked. The two dishes really conflicted with each other and I stopped after a few bites.... The saving grace is their green sauce! Delicious!!! They need to give tables bottles of them to apply instead of giving them out in tiny cups.... Our waitress was nice and gave his 4 little cups to go... If they bottled that to sell, I would totally buy it!!! Still, this restaurant was busy on a Friday. There is a fan base as you can see from the reviews. Where was this restaurant when I was living in California?! I never knew there was such an awesome restaurant 5 minutes from my parents house. The restaurant is tucked in a weird little plaza. You drive through a residential area and for a moment will think you've made a wrong turn. But follow your GPS/map or whatever you have, you're probably heading the right direction even if you think you're not. When you walk in the restaurant is sort of like a half circle, a very interesting layout in my opinion. First off, you must try the complimentary tea if you're eating in! It is such a flavorful blend of probably cinnamon and some other magical spices. It's sweet and just sooo good. You help yourself with as much as you want, it is in a self serve pot in the far corner of the restaurant. For food we ordered the mandasi, sambusa, beef suqaar, and kay kay. The mandasi is like a piece of donut dough...very nice doughy texture (I love bread)....The sambusa is served with a green spicy sauce. It is very flavorful, a must try. I loved my beef suqaar dish. The beef was tender and had a smoky flavor. The rice was nicely seasoned. Add the green sauce if you like spice. My boyfriend's kay kay was interesting. It had bananas (which I think is what the chipatti is....) I was too busy eating my dish so I can't comment much. He loved it though and kept raving about the flavor :) I must note that I enjoyed everything even though I had polished off a cinnabon 20 minutes earlier...that's how good and flavorful the food was. Man. My son told me few times about this place. But I was so hesitant because of the name and the location. But boy I decided to give a try today. I got the roasted goat cutler and my wife got the chicken wrap. Honestly both are very delicious and full of flavor. Service is great very nice young man with smile on his face all the time. It came with a choice of two meets, rice, some kind of tortilla, veggies and two drinks! Okay when they said sports plate, I wasn't sure what to expect. The plate was humongous though! Definitely as big as our table! We ordered the goat cutlet and the chicken. I was very surprised at how seasoned everything was! It was very delicious. I decided to wrap mine in the tortilla. Actually I'm not sure what's the name but it's a mix between tortilla and bread. Anyways I stuffed mine with the meat, rice and veggies! Ate it like a little taco haha. Jubba just celebrated their 10th anniversary, so I was compelled to write a review for them! Somalian food is amazing; you're missing out if you haven't tried it yet. While it is a bit hole-in-the-wall hidden, it's absolutely worth the trek here. My recommendations are the suqaar entrees (preferably beef), the Sports Plate (so you can try two different kinds of meat), and their sambusas! Entree portion sizes are huge; two entrees can feed 3 people pretty well. I'd also recommend giving their injera and chapatti a try! On one of my first Uber rides upon moving to the Bay Area, I was chatting with the driver (yes i'm one of *those* people) and trying to build a new list of restaurant recommendations. I asked him what his favorite restaurant was around the area, and he recommended Jubba. "Try the sambusas," he said. "Trust me." Well, it took me 3 years to get around to trying this place despite it being starred on my Google Maps, but holy wow was it worth it. I convinced a friend that an Uber driver couldn't be wrong, and further convinced her to drive us out to the fluorescently glowing VTA parking lot next to Jubba... ... and we were NOT disappointed. I haven't written a Yelp review in a while and Jubba's excellence has shocked me out of my Yelp dormancy. Where to start? First of all the TEA is INCREDIBLE. It's sweet, fragrant black tea with spices ("I think it has ginger? cardamom? cinnamon? ??" said the girl at the register when I asked her afterward) that woke me up inside (thanks Evanescence) and was the perfect counter to a December day. We got 2 sambusas and the beef suqaar with rice and chicken kaykay. First the sambusas. As we crunched through them and dipped them into the spicy green sauce we alternated between exclaiming "oh my god this is delicious" and "what's in this?". With the entrees, we were silent for 10 minutes as we experienced myriad flavors in the vegetables and meat... The chapati that comes with the kaykay is flaky and a perfect compliment to the meal. The entrees are pretty big - we could easily have split one plate (we aren't big eaters), but hey - I'm not complaining about having delicious leftovers for the next day. Jubba was Excellent prior to the Pandemic. It is still good but deteriorated. Their Sports Plate was not up to the mark as before, nor was the Jubba Chicken Wrap. I asked for their signature green sauce extra and was willingto pay for it too. GLad I didnt have to because the sauce which used to be nice thick and tasty in the paste has lost its zingy taste, was watery and did no good to our taste buds. Service is always very polite, and I still appreciate Jubba's fresh preparation of food as well as their smiling faces. They are alos courageous enough to not serve any alcohol and I applaud them for being a TRUE Halal restaurant! I would give 5 stars if they had maintained their Pre Pandemic level of taste. This is my new favorite place to eat. I love their chicken wrap, beef wrap, and fish wrap. People are so nice at the establishment very very friendly and welcoming. They are also listed on Door Dash if you don't wanna leave home or work, how great is that? .......... even if you walk in five minutes before they close which I don't recommend They will still take your order. They don't ever seem to be in a rush to leave they seem to enjoy with what they do. I'm a BARBER in San Jose and I find it hard to leave work for lunch so I just DoorDash, and and before I know it I'm enjoying me some Jubba chicken wrap. When you walk in, grab a menu at the cashier and sit down. Tea is self-served. It's in the back, near the restrooms. Grab a cup, and fill her up!! My go-to favorite is the Chicken Suqaar with injeera bread (spongey deliciousness). This is positively addicting! The Kay Kay used to be my all-time favorite because it has the chapatti bread and bits of banana mixed together. Now, I prefer Chicken Suqaar because it's less oily. A note to those considering the Sports Plate - this is delicious but only order if you plan on splitting between two hungry souls! It's meant to be shared Oh wait!! I forgot to mention my entire reason for my obsession with Jubba!The TEA!! Try it and you will want to shake the hands of all the employees and their ancestors! It's sweet peppery-gingery goodness in a cup! I've been coming here enough that if, on the off-chance you arrive on a day they brew a not-so-great batch, tell them! They'll tweak it! It's worth it.
