The people at training were great - nutrition majors, foodies, chefs all mingling in a philanthropic pow wow. The training was hands on and interactive, and I really like Solid's Ground's focus on diversity, equality, respect and education as a way to help the community. Super cool place! It takes a few tries before really learning the ropes of this place, because the system is so disorganized. There are particular stations (ex. drinks, desserts, poultry, grains, canned goods, etc) that majority of the volunteers covered, and basically clients got in a line and circled around the facility, grabbing an item from each station. Volunteers only assisted people when clients couldn't reach at item. Other volunteers were the receptionist, who checked every client in, people who restocked the inventory or ran food drives in front of grocery stores. Cons: -the place is VERY small and with so many clients piling in, it gets cramped very quickly -as a volunteer, I feel like I'm not contributing anything at all; yes, some clients were grateful I was there, but I myself felt to gratitude -the permanent volunteers are very rude, bossy, and kind of like bullies (some of these volunteers claimed certain stations, not giving others a chance to be there) -the system is very disorganized. Pet Partners stopped by my office today with Therapy Animal teams for employees to visit with and…read morede-stress for a few hours in the morning. Not sure if they are affiliated with Sutter Medical's Paws On-Call or if that's Lend A Heart. Their Workplace Wellbeing program brings therapy dogs and other therapy animal teams directly to workplaces to boost morale, satisfaction, and productivity. Four pairs of dogs and their humans came, all female handlers, three male dogs and one female. Didn't catch all the names and exact breeds, but I did get to visit with each of them for a little bit. The dogs' names were Lucky, Harley, Meli (which means "Honey" in Hawaiian) the Goldendoodle and Gorder (sp?). They were each super sweet and very well-behaved, and my mood improved for sure. They were happy to sit, lie down, receive pets and give licks. Such good bois and girl doggos! Wish they could stay longer, or come back soon! Dog ages ranged from around 4 to 7 years old, with some as therapy animals already for 1-5 years. The handlers were local to the greater Sacramento/Yolo area, and usually do visits at hospitals, elementary schools, etc. Some of the pairs knew each other previously and others just met at our onsite location assignment today. We had all dogs, but according to their website, Pet Partners registers "nine different species of animals for therapy visits, including dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, birds, miniature pigs, and llamas and alpacas." If I hadn't been discharged an hour after Zander's visit, I definitely would have taken advantage of having more highly vetted, Pet Partners' animals stop by to say, "hi" but like I said, I was homeward bound piqued with curiosity to learn more about the program. Bellevue, WA based, Yelp listed but not claimed, "Pet Partners' mission is to improve human health and well-being through human-animal bond." Think therapy animals, not just dogs, bringing healing connection to hospitals, retirement homes and schools or assistance/working animals, to help disabled humans with tasks, or provide emotional support to those with mental illness and more. Not every pet, animal, has what it takes to be a Pet Partner, my furbabies are way too diva but perhaps yours might measure up. I had a job interview coming up on Monday and no proper clothes for it. I didn't have the money to go out and buy what I needed, and I was running out of options. Director Karin was there that day, and she was incredibly kind. She was pouring coffee, checking in on people, making everyone feel welcome. It didn't feel cold or transactional -- it felt human. There was also a young guy, I believe from Ukraine or Russia, who helped me find the right clothes. He really took the time to look for something that fit well and looked professional. He didn't rush me or treat it like it was nothing -- he understood it mattered. The security guard was polite and respectful, very professional and calm. You could tell he cared about keeping the space safe but also treating everyone with dignity. And there was an gentleman handling appointments who listened to me carefully and spoke with real respect. He didn't judge, didn't rush -- he just heard me out and helped! Because of all of them, I left that Friday feeling relieved instead of anxious. I was able to spend the weekend without that heavy stress about money and clothes. On Monday, I walked into my interview looking sharp and feeling confident. I'm truly greatful for the way everyone treated me that day. You don't just give out clothes -- you give people hope and self-respect when they need it most. Thank you all so much

Went to the Cinematique resource event with a young person I work with. Of all the booths, the…read morepeople working the Treehouse booth (I believe their names were Jack and Lou) were the most helpful, informative, and fun. They made accessing Treehouse resources easy and also gave us great information on resources outside of Treehouse. Thankful for places like Treehouse and for kind, fun, well-informed staff like Jack and Lou (I hope I am remembering names correctly)

The staff are incredibly dedicated and passionate about what they do. Treehouse offers many services to help foster kids have a more stable and normal life. From tutoring and college preparation, to school supplies and clothing, to after school care and summer activities, Treehouse improves the lives of thousands of foster kids and helps meets economic needs that foster parents sometimes cannot. Like most nonprofits, Treehouse can always use help. My (former) workplace ran a clothing drive and then a group of about 10 of us sorted and tagged clothes for the Wearhouse. It was a fulfilling and heartwarming day of service. I would not hesitate to recommend the services this organization provides or suggest it as a nonprofit worthy of your support. Both feed, have access to computers, on site counselors, a wide range of networks to assist those in need.
