Flaky procedures for trying to figure out how to get a worker. Never called back. Must be a government agency or nonprofit.

I've been recommending these guys for years but the last two or three times I've been burned. The workers were supposed to weed, then plant ground cover on a small hillside.Because they were planting as well as weeding, I had to pay them extra as though they were skilled. They were not skilled. They sometimes pulled plants from their containers and just left them sitting on the surfeit of the mulch rather than bothering to dig a hole. They rushed the job and I ended up doing much of the clean up myself. I can't climb the hillside at aged 69 so I'll have to buy new plants and hire someone else. And I always liked helping newcomers and Casa Latina. I can't afford the mistakes so I'll look around for someone else. read more

Domingo is a great Ambassador for Casa Latina. He helped clear a mountain of blackberry bushes that we had cut and stacked with good assistance from his colleague Humberto. First experience was great. A worker showed up and removed carpet. Work I didn't want to do and could not have done better myself. Second experience was ok. The worker primed one floor of house before having painter come to spray. Came out good. Had extra time and asked him to paint one coat of a room. I asked him to cover the floor. He did not, and said he would come back to clean it up. He came back later that day to get the radio he forgot but never responded to my calls about the cleanup. I spent more time than he spent painting the room removing the paint and had to do another coat as it was rushed. I would have been better off having him leave early and paying the full five hours. (this is the trend I am starting to see, I would have been better off not relying on the service offered) Experience last week did not happen. I paid the transportation fee, but the worker never showed up, never contacted me, nor did Casa Latina, nor have they responded to my email asking what happened. I could have started earlier if I knew I was going to do it myself, but waited thinking I would ultimately save time. This put me off schedule and I had to cancel plans to do the work myself. The resource has a great mission, one that I would like to support, and there seems to be a sweet spot of difficulty vs precision that can be accomplished for a good price by utilizing Casa Latina. But, unless something changes, I will not waste my time. read more

We've used them for household, yard and minor construction projects and have ALWAYS had only the highest caliber of people show up who work well and hard. I got housekeeping help from here for a move out. Great price at $23 per hour plus tip, with a 4 hour minimum. They cleaned it really well, were on time, knowledgable about how to clean, and were super nice. Also, when you use them you know you ste paying a living wage which is great! read more

ZERO STARS, RIP OFF (subpar work, did only 40% of the job!!!) I paid $120 for 5 man hours and this is what I didn't get: Our home is a standard rambler 4 bedrooms and 1.75 bath, 1200 sqft. They DID NOT: (please look at the pictures I took) -clean the full bath AT ALL - fully clean the 0.75 bath -vacuum 3 of the 4 bedrooms AT ALL -clean the kitchen floor AT ALL - sweep or vacuum the laundry/basement hallway AT ALL - clean the dinning room table or wipe it down with wood polish provided AT ALL They DID: - leave the dinning room furniture in disarray to give the illusion that the floor had been cleaned, but it WASN'T -leave a slipper on the already made bed - leave the 0.75 bath that was supposedly cleaned in disarray -leave their unwashed cup in the sink I called CL on Tuesday and booked 2 house cleaners for Sat. I was told the hourly rate is $15. and that there is a 5 hour minimum. So I said I have a small child can I book 2 people for 2.5 hour instead? Yes absolutely, that will be $75. I booked them from 2-4:30, they didn't show up by 2:15, I called CL. Since this was on a Sat afternoon there is no support staff on call at the CL to speak to. I left 2 messages and they didn't get back to me. The 2 women showed up at 3! And showed me their papers that stated 3, so I said OK looks like there was a transcription error by the phone operator. Come on in and start cleaning. (by this time my husband and I had started the cleaning and the kitchen was mostly done, except the floors and his office had been dusted. I handed the 2 ladies (Doris and Ines) a list of what I needed done in each room.I then proceeded to walk them through the list, but they said no need we can go off the list. Keep in mind that I asked the telephone operator if they had a list of things they do? He said no you can provide one, this is why we are so good at what we do because our workers go above and beyond. They will do deep cleaning and even wash clothes. When it came to payment we said who do we make the check out to? To each of us individually, and it will be $60 for each person!!!!!! But I was told it's $75 for 5 hours!!! NO! You have to pay $60 for each of us!! By this time we just wanted them out of our home!!! We paid them and thankfully they left. What a rip off. For $120 I got my living room, one hallway and a bedroom vacuumed. My usual cleaning lady who was unavailable today charges me $75 and is in and out in 3 hours. I wanted to love this organization, but I won't be using them again. Important to note, I am fluent in English, the man I spoke with on the phone was fluent in English and Doris spoke English just fine. read more

After thinking everything had gone well, I was disappointed that the worker decided not to return the following week for basic gardening, involving weeding. This was after confirming he would return the following Monday. Just to confirm, on Saturday, I sent him a text confirming the Monday start time. He never responded. The next day, I called and he informed me he had work lined up for the entire week. WHAT WENT WRONG? I have no idea. Upon completion of work, I paid an additional few dollars to cover the price of gas. I made sure he only worked from 10 a.m - 3 p.m. and paid cash. I supplied sodas, soup and sandwich for lunch, which he seemed to appreciate. Again, I have no idea WHY he decided not to return. He was a great worker; conscientious, professional and friendly. (The work involved mowing a small patch of lawn, edging, plus weeding.) He seemed happy when he left; I know I certainly was. Not sure whether I will try using Casa Latina again. I would love some feedback on his end, but not sure that's possible. read more

I used the services of Casa Latina for two occasions - house cleaning and basic gardening. I am happy with the gardening service but house cleaning was not satisfactory. The person who came to my house didn't do anything I said. She dusted some of the places not everywhere, vacuumed, wiped the kitchen countertop, and mopped. If thats what you are looking for. Go for it. I purchased deep cleaning and was expecting more. I will not hire a cleaner again but will def hire one of the gardeners again. read more

DO NOT hire any "Skilled" workers from Casa Latina. I've had good luck with yard workers from Casa Latina in the past so decided to try painters. I called and requested experienced and skilled painters. I was assured that they would send skilled painters. 4 different "painters" worked hard but were clearly unskilled and did not know how to paint with any degree of skill. They had no idea on how to prep, brush cut paint from walls to ceilings and roll properly to avoid hat banding or wasting time with excessive masking. It took 4 of the workers nearly 3 days to paint less than 1000 sq ft of wall/ceiling area. That's 70 man hours at $22/hr for total of $1540 to paint that modest area. Over-runs and bleed thru everywhere and last guys they sent actually used the wrong color on a wall wasting $50/gallon paint and additional time to fix it. They also knew little on how to spackle properly. This is on top of me providing all materials, paint brush/rollers/etc. I went back to my regular painter who knocked out painting a much more technical area of over 1200 sq wall/ceiling area in less than 35 hours at $25/hr and he comes with his tools. I just supply paint. You can find good skilled true painters at $25-$30 hr who will do a better job in less than half the time and cost. I'm all for supporting hard working men but I truly learned my lesson the hard way that Casa Latina should never be used for skilled labor. I would suggest that if they want to do their group, workers, and clients justice, they stop advertising skilled labor or better yet, train or vet skills of the workers who claim to have said skills when these people have no business doing this (all 4 workers claiming to be "painters" in my case) Besides yard work, cleaning and maybe moving, do not hire what they claim to be skilled labor from Casa Latina. read more

I have used Casa Latina day workers for several projects and have always been pleased with the quality of worker and results. They helped with 2 different moves and 2 landscaping projects and the rate of 22/hour 5 hour minimum was fair. Plus a tip for the extra effort is good. Do expect to have some communication issues and supervise a little bit since they may not follow exactly what you want done. I have used day laborers that hang out at home depot. Once they were good, but the last time I was mobbed and had 3 people in my back seat before I could speak. One was drunk, but they self policed and got him out. Each worker has been a delight to have in my garden and around my house. Each worker has been eager to work all the time,some without break others appreciative of a quick bite and a bottle of water. I needed a couple strong guys to help me & my wife move. After looking around (most of the companies were booked or felt too expensive), someone turned me on to Casa Latina. I'm a little to shy to go to the Home Depot parking lot, and how would I know what to pay them, etc etc. This was WAY easier. I booked two workers for a full eight hour day of moving dirt for a retaining wall using the online form. Somewhere in the online form it says something to the effect that your request isn't accepted until it is confirmed by Casa Latina. You do get a confirmation email immediately, but I think it is just a confirmation they got your request, not that they will fulfill it: it was definitely confusing and unclear. In any case, even with four days notice for the work (they ask for 48 hours) which was simple, virtually no-experience-required labor I never got any sort of communication from Casa Latina whatsoever--no confirmation, no decline of my request. I love this idea and want to support it but they need stronger communication. I'm giving them two stars because I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they are more responsive over the phone--if you decide to use them I definitely suggest picking up the phone to avoid repeating my experience. Maybe I was just lost in a tech snafu? Or maybe their silence is supposed to be tacit denial of your request for labor? I'm honestly not sure and its not worth my time to try and find out, really. I hired a worker from Casa Latina to do extensive yardwork. The man that arrived with absolutely fantastic and I have had him back a few times. He was very skilled at doing all the yard clean up tasks that I asked of him, Very courteous, polite, and agreeable. I will definitely have him back every couple of weeks for yard maintenance. I highly recommend Casa Latina. When hiring a worker by phone, I have had great experience with the two gentlemen who have organized the process for me. They are super helpful, very concise and explaining the process to me and very helpful. The entire process from hiring a worker from the organization, to having the worker execute the yardwork with an amazing fantastic experience! Well, it's time to ask for a little help. Let me just say that my husband is a superhero. But, I knew he needed a helper and let's face it, at 38 weeks, I'm just not that able-bodied person anymore. My experiences with Casa Latina have been overwhelmingly positive. I have utilized them for various short term help with housekeeping, yard work, moving services and general labor. In all cases my workers showed up, worked hard, had a great outlook and got the work completed just as I had requested. My now long-term housekeeper is no longer a just a Casa Latina worker, she is a friend and a trusted member of our family - and I am so glad to have found her through this wonderful service. The organization, training, dignity and support for access to fair wages that Casa Latina provides workers is so important. If you are a trustworthy and respectful employer, this is a wonderful program to partner with! As the Spring arrives this year I will again call Casa Latina to help with our yard work and general home projects - and I look forward to it! I hired a worker through Casa Latina and had a WONDERFUL experience with everything from start to finish! Agustin arrived on time. He was courteous and spoke English well (way better than my Spanish!) He worked very hard the whole time, accomplished much more than expected, and cleaned up the area after. When asked, Agustin provided his helpful opinion on my issue, and ended up finding the source of my drainage problem with his intelligent problem solving. I hired two workers from Casa Latina on Saturday, June 12th. The landscaping guy was an incredibly hard worker, and was very skilled at trimming the hedges, weeding, etc. The lady who was helping me clean the house interior was also very hard. Both of them worked for 7 solid hours without a break. Both were very friendly. I would definitely use Casa Latina again, and will recommend them to others. Regarding the pay scale - I think it was fair. I'd rather get good hard workers at $20ish an hour than haggle for someone for $10-$15 and have them not work as hard. read more

They ask good questions before proceeding and fully complete the work before slowing down. I always provide a hearty, homemade lunch and they are very appreciative. Last summer I requested 2 workers to clean my home. Juanita and Elia were delivered and they have cleaned my house every month since. They are by far the best, most reliable and considerate housekeepers I have ever encountered. My home is large and we have two dogs and many guests. Love love love! I will never burden my friends again with another move. I hired 2 guys and they showed up 15 mins early, worked their asses off, packed everything safely and wouldn't let me help. All for $16 an hour. Also hired 2 ladies for move out cleaning and they got the place cleaner than we moved in. Only tip is that you should have the proper supplies for them to work with - our bed ended up a little scratched but that was bc we only had plastic to wrap it in. Great service! read more

Hello, I'm a Casa Latina worker.I just got to Seattle from Los Angeles and although it's been a bumpy road wandering around here, Casa Latina has given me and others a sense of belonging and a chance to contribute to Seattle. Call and tell them what's needed and how many you need and level of English desired. The workers here are categorized by their level of english, level of strength, and fields of experience; here's an example. Y3-L-U2 this means: Y= yardwork capable 3= level of English (0-3) L= landscape capable U= heavy duty capable 2= strength ability (0-2). All workers are scanned for sex crimes and arsony.There's a few people that aren't Latino that like the way things are done here. Many are skilled and there are a few bad apples, but they get pulled off the tree. The girls do housekeeping duties. Thanks to all who support your amigos! read more

Above and beyond! This will now be the 5th time we have used Casa Latina and our expectations have always been exceeded. The initial booking process is simple and the workers have always been very professional and helpful. One thing that has changed since the last time we used them is there is now an option to have the workers delivered to your address by shuttle service. This is super convenient and a great improvement over having to collect people at the bus stop. At the end of the job you pay the worker in cash. You know what the rate is upfront and honestly the work ethic and quality of work had always been exceptional. I have recommended Casa Latina to several friends and they have all been very pleased with the high quality and professional work and ethic.
