My bike

Such a great bike shop they fixed my 34-year-old Bianchi bike for me when every other bike shop I had taken it to in this area said it was unfixable because it was too old and they couldn't get the parts! They also did it for a reasonable amount (less than 200). I love them!

Reasonably priced used and new parts. Helpful staff. Today's my second visit for parts n a new helmet. Only wish there was outdoor seating to wait

I was in the market for a bicycle and finally found the one at Bike Works. Their online web store makes it easy to browse and see if they have a bike in your size and specifications. I was able to call ahead to the store and give my bike a test ride and then purchase. I also asked for fenders to be installed. I was helped mostly by Kellan, appreciated his assurance and knowledge. Also bought a lock and rear light from them at the same time when I picked up my bike. Overall very good experience with both purchase, service, pricing. You can find a bicycle for cheaper on Craigslist but 90% it was stolen from somebody else; at a shop like Bike Works you get a tuned up bike and support a local business and community.

Thanks, guys!

So, I just moved to Seattle and my bicycle was already stolen! Perhaps it was my fault (it was on my car bike rack over the weekend and I foolishly forgot that people steal things) and I learned my lesson... but after a month of walking everywhere, I was craving a bicycle! A friend recommended that I shop at Bike Works given their great prices and the fact that it is an amazing nonprofit organization, so I had to! I took the bus, for the second time, down to Columbia City and was hit with amazement by Bike Works! Nestled in a super cute house-type building, I found everyone to be extremely friendly and helpful (side note: sometimes bike shops come off as a little pretentious and/or that they are too busy to help anyone... these guys do not fit into this stereotype!) I tested two bikes, which were on a vintage frame but totally road-ready, but found my dream bike a few moments later. For those who enjoy fixing your own bikes: apparently (I say this because I did not stop by) they have a great warehouse of parts and un-workable bikes! Try here before you go to the other companies and feel good about giving back to the community.

This place rocks! Period! A non-profit that works to benefit kids and community through bicycles and bicycling? How awesome is that? This place is in a great location in Columbia City. It's housed in a small space but it has a big heart, with a huge warehouse a couple of blocks away to match. The warehouse is full of used (donated) bicycles and you can browse them to pick out what you want. Bike Works is about creating bicycling awareness and advocacy. The staff are super helpful and they become even more helpful once you're a regular and consistent customer. Bike Works is a great place to buy a refurbished bicycle at a great price. It's also an excellent place to pick up used bike parts that you might not find anywhere else, not even at bigger places like Recycled Cycles in the University District.

Arrogant rude customer service. I object to them foisting their politics on me. I used the shop for many years but won't go back.

Came here to get a bike (obviously) and had a great experience! I came in with zero cycling…read moreknowledge, and the folks there were super helpful in giving me some guidance about the different types of bikes. I was originally looking for a used bike but they only had two in my size that were both road bikes. I tried them both but ended up going with a new gravel bike that was a bit more all-purpose! They have a lot across the street where you can try out the bikes for as long as you need. I ended up testing out four diff bikes, and they were super nice about all of it even though it took me forever. They didn't have the color I wanted, but they let me know how to order it online and have it shipped there so they could build the bike for me. They said doing it this way is the same as buying directly from the store! I still get all the benefits like 30 days of free accessories installation and such. My partner also got a used bike that was in great condition!

I was gifted a Trek 1000 bike that needed some work. No saddle, rusty chain, and missing pedals…read more Kirk took the time to diagnose the bike and personalized the riding experience for me. I chatted with him while he fixed my bike and all of the prices were transparent with no hidden cost. What I love about recycled cycles is the fact that I can learn as I go and at my own pace. Kirk, like the rest of the staff appear passionate about cycling and the rider. I love knowing that parts that I am using are being given a new life. With the diagnosis, we figured out what we I'll address now to ride the bike and what I will need to up keep and maintain 3 months from now. What a great service and experience. 10 stars.

If you have a normal bike, I'm sure Alki Bike and Board Shop can handle it…read more If you have a mildly complicated bike, definitely go there. If, however, you have a questionably overpowered long-tail cargo bike running a custom Bafang BBSHD mid-drive setup that may or may not have been engineered during a caffeine-fueled "more capability and power is always a good idea" phase... these are your people. I rolled in with what can only be described as a mechanical riddle wrapped in an enigma of wiring harnesses and torque sensors. My Bafang BBSHD setup had become inhabited by a small tribe of mean spirited electrical gremlins. I'm capable with bike mechanics, but this had gotten over my head - I was bracing for a massive bill (maybe significant part replacements). Instead, the team at Alki Bike & Board just... handled it. Calmly. Confidently. No drama. No upsell. Just pure competence. The bill was less than 1/10 what I had expected. This crew is overseen by a guy called Dayton - I'm not sure if he is more Thor or Hercules. On one hand, he seems like he could summon lightning directly into a mid-drive motor. On the other hand, he has the calm, slightly amused strength of someone who has already defeated twelve labors involving stripped bolts and cross-threaded bottom brackets. Either way, the man is operating on a different plane. He diagnosed the issues quickly, explained everything in plain English (instead of "mystical bike wizard dialect"), and fixed the whole situation for a small fraction of what I was mentally preparing to pay. I didn't believe him when he told me. Bottom line: Extremely knowledgeable Honest pricing No ego, no attitude Dayton = certified bike demi-god If you are near West Seattle and your bike needs anything beyond a gentle pat on the saddle, this is the spot. 10/10. Will bring my mechanical chaos machine back henceforth!
