While waiting for an appointment, it's kinda tacky to hear staff loudly talking about a call with another patient who was frustrated with them about scheduling, and hear them make fun of her and say things like 'I was gonna tell her the information she needed but she cut me off so good luck to her I guess haha' like... I get this is your job, and everyone wants to complain about their work or 'clients/customers' that they view as annoying, but this is the healthcare field. This is people's lives, and yeah folks get frustrated in regard to their personal health and trying to navigate the hell that is our healthcare system. Leave those conversations at home, or at a low enough volume that folks in the waiting room can't hear you. It does not fill me with confidence that patients information and struggles are going to be taken seriously and not mocked when I hear that in the waiting room. Also not being able to schedule an appointment 3 months out, when I was specifically told by my doctor that I need to come back in 3 months, is kinda ridiculous. I'll try and remember to call back and schedule myself in a few months, but it's very likely I'll forget which is why I wanted to get it put on the books today. :(

They're afraid of litigation and kept making matters worse for themselves by lying several times, yikes. Avoid this place! Imagine asking a doctor for help and the below happens. Then reporting it to owner and she states services were still rendered so payment is still required. Then having to repost this review 66 separate times because the doctor is trying to hide what happened. The next step is going to the Oregon Board of Natropathic Medicine to maybe get some justice? I work full time, just started a full time Masters program, still dealing with extreme fatigue which was the main reason for my visit and I'm STILL trying to get some kind of resolution. I thought Taxman was a good doctor but he was horrible, self flattering, snide, and indifferent in helping me. I'm still flabbergasted because I thought I was choosing a good doctor who could guide me to other good doctors and give me advice. I did not get that at all. He could have rescheduled me with someone else if he knew he wasn't going to help me. People get away with things because they rely on others being quiet about it and I won't be silenced. Here are some more details I initially left out of the below review because Taxman seemed confused. While I was having a panic attack he held up his wedding ring hand in front of him and waved his hand around showcasing his ring-- I'm not sure why he thought that was appropriate? What does his relationship status have to do with my appointment? Is this standard for all his appointments? He seemed confused, I told him while in the middle of a panic attack I'm not here to date you??? I'll continue to repost this until the end of time, no patient should have to deal with this and then pay $800/hour My appointment with Dr.Taxman was incredibly disappointing. I had a small panic attack at the beginning of the appointment, when I recovered I looked up and his head was tilted down and eyes looking up glaring at me... he looked angry? We just sat there and stared at eachother for maybe 60 seconds until I broke off the stare off. It was scary, bizarre, and cruel. I was as mostly looking down with my eyes closed during this panic attack, so this came out of no where. Nothing warrants that response from a doctor. I still asked about my issues, I have year round allergies I asked about and he shrugged and mentioned one drug, that was it. We went over two prescriptions I have, he said wow that's a high dosage when referring to my antidepressant, he did not elaborate. There was a knot on my throat he said he would be willing to see through till the end-- I'm OK, I'll go to another doctor. It's clear he didn't want me in the appointment and he had an attitude the majority of the time. He rolled his eyes twice while I was talking. I read glowing reviews from other patients who he's helped with similar issues before booking. There were STILL several other issues but I'll leave it at that, he seemed confused by the purpose of the visit. I overestimated his abilities as a professional and as a doctor. Taxman has weak character and questionable moral compass if this is how he treats people/patients.

My asthmatic husband went in to see Dr. Joseph McCarthy clearly stating to both doctor and staff that he needed a prescription for his asthma. "Sure, bring in your medicine and we'll get you set up." That was over 2 weeks ago. Since then: 1) The Oak Street Family Medical Staff confirmed multiple times that they sent the request for medication to the insurance company. Each time, the insurance company said they had not received anything. 2) Maybe it's the insurance company? Not likely. Every time he called in to the doctor's office, he had to describe every detail of his situation, as if NOTHING IS KEPT ON RECORD. 3) As his symptoms got worse, he called the doctor directly. "I need my medicine. Your office has told me multiple times that they have sent your authorization, but it's clearly not happening." Sorry, McCarthy says, there's nothing I can do. I'll sort it out Monday morning (they are only open Monday - Wednesday). 4) My husband ends up in the emergency room due to breathing difficulties. The following Monday, he calls in to ensure the doctor's authorization has been sent, as the doctor himself said he would do. DR. McCARTHY DID NOT KEEP HIS WORD. The day is nearly half over, and he has been on the phone back and forth with the doctor's office and insurance. Each time, the doctor's office says they are about to send the request, but they never follow through. If you take your health seriously, and want a medical staff that takes your health seriously, avoid Oak Street Family Medical.

She was not satisfied with Dr. McCarthy's poor appearance and lack of helpful medical knowledge. It was a very unpleasant visit. She was also extremely upset at the "new patient fee" that was not billable to insurance. When she got the bill it was for $148, making it the singularly most expensive trip to the Dr. someone with insurance from a school district has ever had. The above story did motivate us to NEVER visit Dr. McCarthy ever again. What motivated me to publicly complain on Yelp was that we received a letter from a collections company claiming that our bill was unpaid! I have bank records proving that Dr. McCarthy cashed my check! We just want this organization out of our life, nothing about this place is positive. Do not go here under any circumstances.
