I had 2 bridesmaids dresses that needed alterations with just a couple of weeks to get it done. Judith was very responsive with setting up an appointment and confirming the alterations could be completed in the timeframe needed. One of the dresses needed MAJOR adjustments as it was a good 3 sizes too big in the bust, waist and needed hemmed. Judith was able to adjust both dresses to perfection! She has dog on the floor right next to wedding and formal dresses she's working on!! The owner, although she was right, that my daughter was late to her appointment , (she's in college, and is supposed to handle this in her own) I followed up myself with Judith and apologized on her behalf. I arrived at the new time that was arranged to be greeted by a filthy cramped room. To each his/her own. Then, I see my daughter's dress has white stains on it and is very wrinkled. I gave this woman a brand new dress with a Macy's bag over it. She then tells ME to iron the dress, and says the stain will come out!?! My daughter told me, she sprayed or used chalk, on the dress, to mark the new hemline!!!! Now it's my job to fix this mess, I'm furious. Side note, when a customer tells you they used to be a professional classical wedding singer, don't screw up your face and tell them nobody wants that anymore?! We got married in Hella, Iceland on Aug. 6, 2016. My dress was from Vera Wang's White Collection which I bought at David's Bridal. Pictures attached! I found Judith on Weddingwire and she is a fun, honest, responsive business owner and felt her prices were appropriate for what I got done with my dress. After reaching out to Judith through Weddingwire, I received an email and we scheduled an initial phone call to discuss process, my thoughts on what I wanted done to the dress and potential cost. I felt comfortable with her at this point so we scheduled an in-person appointment. You will pay half during your first fitting and half when you take home the gown. When I first arrived, Judith was bubbly and friendly and walked around me, looking at my dress and we discussed wedding location. I felt like she took the time to learn who I was and what style I wanted for my wedding day. This was really important to me as I went by myself since my mom was out of the area. I'm also fortunate that I fit the top rather well; however, Judith was honest and shared I probably needed to tone up my back. It was pretty straight forward, but I'm not too sensitive of a person and don't take myself too seriously so it didn't bother me, but rather motivated me to add a back workout to my schedule :) Judith and I scheduled out my 2 additional fittings and I made sure I had my undergarments for the second fitting and all my accessories for my third and final fitting. I also brought two friends during my final fitting and Judith was welcoming. Throughout my time working with Judith, we focused on the bottom of the dress, removing 4 layers, making sure the length fit with my snow boots and decided since our wedding was outdoors in Iceland that an European bustle would be more appropriate. When discussing the removal of the layers, which I wanted, Judith was great at discussing which layers should and should not be removed. Very disappointed. I took my wedding dress to her to bustle after reading all the good reviews. We talked about what I wanted and she pinned it in a way that I liked. When I came to pick it up, it wasn't at all how we discussed, and it looked terrible and weirdly bunched up in awkward places. I told her so, and she tried to fix it on the spot, which was nice in theory. The result: even worse. Now the hem isn't even and the bustle still looks terrible. She said it's better than before and moved on to work on something else. I left crying and now have to find another way to fix this dress.. with no time to do so :( EDIT: For the record, my dress was in fact a real wedding dress, designer brand, and cost me over $1000 with heavy discounts. What a rude response from this business owner. If she didn't like my dress she shouldn't have worked on it. There was definitely no laughing, just sniffling and tears. I wanted to update that my review here, and on wedding wire, was met with a lot of hostility from Judith. She posted personally identifying information; my full name, my email, and even a picture that included my full signature. Beyond the security risks that this poses, and how unethical it is for a business to publicly post my information like that, it only further proves my point. Working with her is a roll of the dice. If you are happy and post a glowing review, she will return kind words. Look at any reviews that point out a problem they ran into and the responses include harsh and nasty criticisms about the person, their choice in dress, and jabs at their overall appearance and personality. I only want to warn future customers that this is a possible outcome of your patronage and I invite anyone with similar experiences to mine to report her to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I found Judith's online and she had great reviews (just none here, yet!). Originally I looked into a gown alterations shop much closer to my home near Old Town, but was turned off when I called and asked about pricing. I acknowledged that they hadn't yet seen my dress but I asked if they could provide a range or any information on cost. She immediately said that wedding gown alterations start at $350. I was quite uncomfortable with a blanket starter fee (I hadn't given any info on what I needed done!) and started searching online. Finding Judith, I called her and she was very kind on the phone, explaining how after a free consultation she would provide estimates. She's located in an office complex in Vienna - a modest space that surely keeps her operating costs down. I did not feel rushed at all. She showed and explained the different types of bustles to me as well as gave me some general wisdom/advice as she measured. She also let me try out various veil options. My lace hem was taken up, straps adjusted, bra cups added, sides taken in, and she made a bustle. All costs were itemized on a receipt totaling $385.00. I was very comfortable with the price since I knew where it was going. About a month later I picked it up and it looks great! After seeing it on, she adjusted the bustle and took great time showing me how it would latch up. She also offered to have me back before my wedding if I wanted to bring a bridesmaid to do a bustle run-through. Overall, Judith did a fantastic job and made sure I will look great. I originally brought my wedding dress to another boutique, who ended up almost ruining the top part of my dress. The previous tailor re-did the top and ended up taking the straps way too wide almost beyond repair. After much frustration, I decided to take my business elsewhere and thank goodness I found Judith. They were very nice and professional, but said there was only so much they could alter on the dress. I thought that was a little strange. Let me preface this review by saying that I have not taken my dress to be altered here but the review is based on the conversation I had with her on the phone prior to ever meeting her. I was doing my due diligence on trying to find a wedding dress seamstress for a dress I had my eyes on and found Judith via yelp. I decided to give her a call to get an estimate on what it would possibly cost to have the dress I wanted altered after trying it on at a boutique in Annapolis and she gave me a quick but very educational explanation on making sure the dress was measured correctly and to have things documented in the order sheet so what i pay for is what I receive. She then asked me who the designed of my dress was to see if I was getting a proper quote and told me that it was a bit higher than what it should be and advised me to call around other boutiques who might carry that designer to compare costs. I took her suggestion to heart and found the dress I loved at $200 less than what I was quoted for at the Annapolis shop! So thank you Judith for bringing that attention to me and taking the time to explain the run down on how to cost effectively and smartly purchase a wedding dress. The boutique I ended up buying my dress from has an in house seamstress so I won't be needing to take it to Judith but she helped me, in her own way, to buy the dress I wanted at a comfortable price and I am so grateful for that. read more

I had a great experience with Judith's Boutique. Judith is very warm and encouraging and helped me tremendously by suggesting I try on a beautiful, vintage-style gown I had overlooked. The dress was just right for me -- it was flattering and just my style. I received many, many compliments on it at my wedding! Judith did a great job on the alterations, giving me a little extra room in the hips by adjusting the dress's outer layer. She also helped me figure out just the best way to wear a sheer wrap I bought to go with the dress, and tacked it to the dress for me so it wouldn't slip. I found I felt more comfortable at this boutique than other bridal stores I had visited -- her place is small and you deal directly with Judith, so, for me, it was relaxed, friendly experience. Can't say thank you enough to Judith for beautifully altering my wedding dress I got online due to COVID. Although it didn't require major alterations, she made suggestions which I didn't even think about and ended up being just perfect. She even hemmed my husband's pants last minute. I went in for a consultation and ended up leaving and going somewhere else. I was referred by a really good friend and heard she is very good but she is a bit pricey and seems to be booked by many clients. Overall, she's not the warm and friendly type- definitely very prickly and from what I can see, does well on her own so she doesn't try to sell herself to you. At all. I'm sure she's great at what she does but I prefer to work with people who I feel comfortable with, not someone who scares me. Maybe I caught her on a bad day which could be the case but I found a place that does amazing professional tailoring work with a 48 hour turn around time on most layered gowns at half the price. read more

Since posting this review, I've received several emails and messages. One came from Judith's business email, and included lines like: "Even I knew it look bad on you but you do not see that. I thought your thinking and style are different than other women because you have a mustache about a " long," "Your mother controls everything for you. I wonder why you're getting married that you are not old enough to make your own decision in your life," "You did not open your mouth to your mothers idea you totally obeyed her like a 5 yrs old girl," and "I almost tell your mother to shut up!" I then received a message from an "anonymous" site user which included many of the same claims but was, perhaps, more personal. For example, "Maybe you deserved it? sounds like you are a very mean person. You are a very bad person. Who will marry a person like you?" and "Look at your naked body in front of a plus size mirror what do you see? Is it a Top model figure? If not that good maybe is true.," and "I felt sorry for your man. I bit your he will ended up with a nice friend lady someday. It sounds like you don't have anything nice to offer to him. You are a very angry and unhappy." Luckily, I am neither an angry nor unhappy person, but I did want to make these pretty outrageous responses to my review available to other potential patrons. I was incredibly nervous taking my mother's wedding dress to get re-done to wear at my own wedding. At the time of her wedding, my mother weighed 55lbs less than I do. Judith is amazing! I had originally taken my dress to another place and they did an okay job. There were some creases I didn't like in the lining and the top was fitting kind of strange. I made the mistake of asking my drycleaner if they could fix it and they assured me they could. Long story short they made it worse and I only have one week till my wedding. I pretty much assumed I was going to have to throw the whole dress away and start over. One of my girlfriends had reminded me of Judith who had made a dress for my friend years ago (and girlfriend looked good). I pretty much cried myself to sleep the night before but I figured I would give my dress one last shot and I would call Judith in the morning. I called her last Friday and explained to her my situation. She had me come in that afternoon and quickly went to work. She told me to come back the following Wednesday (less then one week from me first going there) that way if she needed to do anything else she still had some time to fix it. I was certain I would have to pay up the wazoo because of the short notice and all the work that needed to be done. When she told me the price I almost kissed her! She was extremely affordable! After leaving there I knew everything was going to be okay. I picked up my dress today and my dress looks amazing. I came into Judith's back in the Spring with my bridesmaid dress. At the last minute, it was decided that we would buy dresses online from another country. So, I ended up with a dress that I didn't really like and on top of that, it was quite a bit too small. I had had dress alterations before but usually just having a little taken in or adjusting straps, so I naively expected it to only take a couple days. I took my dress in about a week before the wedding (which was out of state) and found out that I needed extra fabric. I was super panicked and was thinking I'd probably have to tell the bride that I couldn't be in the wedding. Judith suggested I check G Street and Jo-Ann for fabric matches, so I went to both that evening and got the closest matches I could find. I took them back the next day and Judith told me she could work with them. I worried about it over that weekend because I thought the dress would look terrible and the different fabric would stand out and be super embarrassing but when I went back in for the first fitting, I was shocked at how good it looked. And for the final fitting, Judith had made the fit adjustments I requested and I actually went from hating the dress to considering wearing it again at some point. I purchased my dress in Pennsylvania and went to Judith six weeks before our destination wedding. In addition to making sure the bust of my dress fit correctly, she suggested alterations that made the dress absolutely breathtaking, including a French bustle and changing the back of the dress from straight across to a slight V. When hemming the dress, she went above and beyond to preserve the scalloping of the lace. She worked quickly and accommodated several evening fittings. I came to Judith to have my mom's wedding dress redone for my wedding. I had low expectations because the dress was over 25 years old and completely 80's. However, she did a beautiful job fitting the dress to my tastes and body. She removed the sleeves, changed the neckline, redid the skirt and fit the top and waist perfectly. Please save yourself the trouble and money and do NOT do business with her. In her reply she refers to my dress as an informal, chiffon gown with a short train. All three of those things is not true. My gown was entirely satin with intricate beading and a long train. So she's just making things up to try and blame me. Stay away from Judith's alterations. read more

Judith was absolutely amazing. I got my dress from Filene's basement Running of the Brides 9 months before my wedding. I bought the dress three sizes too small. When I lost enough weight to really fit the dress, it ended up being a little big, specifically in the chest area. It was laying on me a little weird just weeks before the wedding, and I was panicked that it would look bad on my wedding day. I didn't really think anything could be done, but Judith could tell how nervous I was about it, and she spent extra time to work with me to make sure we got it right. She helped me so much and really took so much stress away from me for my wedding day. No one wants to be self conscious when they're walking down the aisle and Judith took that feeling away for me. She was wonderful! She also built a gorgeous bustle into the dress. She showed us lots of different options on how it should be done.
