I've been to Julep before & loved it the first time I went a couple years ago but my fiancé & I went the other day & it was just horrible. It took 20 minutes for us to get a menu on a slow Sunday afternoon. There were a couple tables with people sitting inside & a couple outside but it wasn't busy by any means. Once we got the menus, they didn't come back to the table for another 10 minutes & it took another 20 minutes to get our food. We ordered the honey chicken sandwich & the chicken & waffle. The sandwich didn't taste of anything except the honey. It was dripping all over & was so sweet. I love sweet things but this was ridiculous. Everything else was very bland. They also seemed like it was a hassle to give me Caesar dressing on my side salad when was weird since they have it as an option on the menu. Staff was friendly enough but it felt like we were causing a problem asking for Caesar dressing & pepper on the side. read more

Sweet and spicy honey drizzle and ranch dipping sauce soooooo good! Order half a portion because the it's a generous serving. We also had the summer salad which was great. Huge portion. The restaurant is cutely decorated. It has an indoor and outdoor seating area. The covered outdoor area is dog friendly. The drinks looked delicious but I didn't try one. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. The jackfruit didn't have an overbearing bbq flavor and the slaw had good flavor. It was a little messy but plenty to eat. So it's been a while since I did a review! So much life happening! Today I just needed some "down" time. I decided I would get lunch at Juleps and I'm so glad I did! The last time we were here, I had my favourite, the Classic Chicken sandwich and it was amazing as always! I didn't leave a review and I should have because my son was with me and he had an amazing burger! I will post pics of his burger here too! However, this is about my lunch today! Like I said I needed some time where I could decompress from a tough mornin, I needed a pick me up! Well, that happened when the sweet Miss Annabelle greeted me with her beautiful signature smile! Plus, she knew the exact way I wanted my drink, and made me feel like she was happy to see me! I sat and watched her during the lunch svc, and she makes everyone feel welcome with her attentiveness and hospitality. I decided to try something different this time, and BOY HOWDY, I'm sure glad I did! Today I got the BBQ Pulled Chicken Sando, and hand cut fries! As many know, being Irish I'm super picky about my "chips", I'm used to hand cut, fresh chips! These are always amazing! The sandwich is one of my new favourites! The combination of sweetness and sour was perfect, with amazing coleslaw and pickles to round off the flavour. As always the pub feel of Juleps is definitely a draw for me! Julep made it on my list of bookmarks and was my final stop as I was coming home from a big craft beer sampling and shopping haul from Montana. The night I rolled in they had a small sign on the door saying they were closing at 8 p.m. instead of 9. I had about half an hour left and figured I'd give it a shot for a meal knowing I've been in this situation before and may get denied. But they did seat me and reminded me they would close early today. So big, big kudos here for operating fully practically right up to closure. I've been in this situation before and with this amount of time left I have been told they were closing and no new orders could be placed or their kitchen was already closed and if I'm lucky a drink is the only thing they might be able to do. So enormous gratitude here for getting me in! But now onto the food! Seems like a big specialty on their menu is chicken sandwiches. There were several different kinds. I went with the Honey Chicken Sandwich. What really caught my eye here was the honey in the sandwich was described to have pink peppercorns in it. And it was noticeable when I ordered this sandwich with a nice, subtle "zing" with sweet honey and a savory piece of chicken this was an excellent chicken sandwich and perhaps one for the books for me. There were several sides to pick from and I went with the collard greens. Those were very good and paired so very well with my sandwich! I was reasonably full and didn't pursue dessert and I didn't want to delay the staff any further with their closing process so dessert didn't happen so next time. I need to eat gluten free and this was such a great restaurant! They had a great selection of gluten free options. The Pimento dip with gluten free crackers and veggies was so good! I had a shrimp Po-boy. The gluten free bun was a little smaller than a hoggie bun, but it was so good! I also had soup, which was gluten free and so good. My husband had Catfish Po-boy with fries. The fries were wonderful. He loved the hoggie roll. Our server was so helpful and so good to make sure everything tasted good. Two other people helped and were also very friendly and helpful. Great spot in town as far as central location, kinda tough for parking (only street) which can be a hassle when it's busy downtown. The food was EXCELLENT! I had the Dirty Bird Chicken sandwich. I was not aware that it was on a waffle, but the maple syrup and the waffle, all just was incredible. The rest of the family seemed to like their food too. The 3 stars were due to the service. I do admit that all the tables had patrons, so it was busy, but they should have had another server o working. I was frustrated that I watched multiple servers check in with every table except ours. I was unable to get any drink refills, was never asked. In order to get the bill I had to seek out the server. You have a great place, you just can't staff it so tightly on a Saturday. read more

Review is solely on their drinks. We ordered 4 different drinks and all of them were subpar. We were really excited to try this place because so many reviews raved about their craft cocktails. The pink pony club was my fave but was just a super odd flavor combo. It tasted exactly like Orbit mint bubblegum. The first few sips were good but about halfway through the drink, I just couldn't stand the flavor anymore. What has happened to this restaurant. It has been a year since I dined here, but they have declined drastically! The timing was completely off, drinks, salad and meal all came at the same time. The food looked and taste like Dennys. And, nothing was seasoned. If you want to call yourself a southern inspired restaurant then I would expect some seasoning. I wanted to love this restaurant but our whole experience was a bit disappointing. Service was slow despite being more than half empty and food took an incredibly long time to come out. The waffle on my dirty bird was mushy/ soggy and the entire chicken dinner plate was just sad. The cauliflower bites were ok but all very tiny pieces, more like popcorn than florets. Drove from Seattle to Ellensburg for a weekend. By the time we arrived in Ellensburg, we were hungry and luckily this spot was right across the street from the hotel we were staying at. Wow, what a treat! We were on our way to Prosser and decided to stop at my fave brewery for lunch in downtown Ellensburg. How dismayed was I to find out they'd closed during covid? Luckily, right across the street from the defunct brewery location we discovered Julep, a brand new southern food joint with a huge outdoor patio. Before diving into the menu, we ordered bloody marys. They normally use pepper vodka (yum) but I was able to order mine without so as not to offend my sensitive tummy. It was delicious and a nice topper to a long drive. Now, we were ready for food. First up: fried green tomatoes. OMG...SOOOO good. I grew up with a housekeeper from the south who cooked stunningly amazing FGTs, and have never had good ones since. Folks, these were Authentic with a capital A. Dredged in cornmeal and a little salt, they were not over-seasoned and the texture was phenomenal. I could have eaten them all day. Now, it was time for the main course. Honestly, it all sounded so good I had trouble deciding. But I settled on a shrimp po'boy and it was sooo good. I loved that they included tiny little sliced gherkins on top. I also got a side salad to balance out the rich food; their house-made ranch dressing was a hit. My friend ordered the Hail Mary burger, which was heaped (and I mean HEAPED) with pimiento cheese. Tell me, when is the last time you had pimiento cheese in the PNW? And if that wasn't enough to knock the burger ball out of the park, hers also featured more of those delish fried green tomatoes. It looked SO good. I would have asked for a bite but I could barely even finish my po' boy. I also want to say something about the service. We had an awesome server who not only took great care of us, but had to deal with a "Karen" (I hate that word!) who had a LOT of things to say about something she didn't like about her lunch. I couldn't tell what she'd ordered, but whatever it was it wasn't what we had. We also got to meet the delightful owner, and hear a little about her and how she came to open a southern-food restaurant in Ellensburg. Next time you're traveling the I-90 to parts unknown, stop here. Just do it. SO good! read more

We were looking for a lunch place in town that we were passing thru but specifically wanted to check out downtown main street. I found this place and it said it had fried green tomatoes (which i haven't had since i was in New Orleans & i miss them). When i called to confirm they were dog friendly (it said outdoor seating), they said they were but not kid friendly (which was fine as we didn't have kids with us). We got there - not busy as mid afternoon during the week and went inside to confirm where we could sit. Our order server came out with menus & took orders. Found out they didnt have the fried green tomatoes so I was very disappointed but they did have deep fried pickles (not spears) and that was fine. Ordered off the Happy Hour menu which was prefect size. My husband & I ordered the same entree but different sides. Sometimes Buffalo Sauce can be overwhelming so i asked for it on the side and was accommodated. It took some time to get our food and once it was delivered no further attention from our server (went in to get to go box, the check and the plan chicken that I ordered for our dogs that had not been delivered). Overall, the price was fair, the food okay (enjoyed the pickles & mac salad), dog friendly (which is major) and had a great location.
