Husband and I went here (or tried) for lunch. First off, water glasses were dirty. You think it's no big deal and can easily ask for another glass from your server. Not here! Our waitress acted offended and slammed the glass down on the table upside-down. Never a good experience when your waitress has an attitude. Food was not good and not hot by the time we got it. Melted cheese had already hardened. Drinks tasted watered down. And again, what's with the dirty glasses, guys? Save your money and go to Bruce's Place or The Porch nearby. read more

Visited because it was one of only a few dog friendly spots around us. I knew I had to eat early with my wife so I chose to go light for breakfast. Ordered the fried cauliflower. It was really good, and it was a literally mountain of cauliflower. I wish they offered breakfast. I know thats an odd request, but would have loved to enjoy a giant biscuit and eggs sandwich. " iceberg round, fried chicken, cherry tomatoes, blue cheese, cucumber herb saladette, buttermilk ranch. Can be made gluten free by request, OR make it vegan by subbing fried tofu and vegan ranch. Grilled or spiced bbq chicken available by request. " is not knowledgeable about swaps. I ordered the wedge salad, which the menu states can be easily made vegan. " FYI the cucumber herb saladette is chopped pickles, celery and tomatoes. There are no cherry tomatoes. Julep, the McCormick bacons bits are vegan and available whole sale. Service was excellent! Food was great. Ambiance was good. We saw the fried cauliflower and wished we had ordered it. My friend Sue had the grilled chicken sandwich and French fries and she loved it. I had the Blue cheese burger with sweet potato fries. We were so pleased with our dinner. The waitress was efficient and only had one other waitress there with her. I'm sure that they could use another person but they got the job done! I recommend this spot and Sue and I will be back for the cauliflower one day! read more

Tasty shredded beef pot roast & gravy and biscuit. Didn't care for the cornbread or the mashed potatoes, unfortunately. Friendly enough service, but was hard to get my waitress's attention when she was head's-down on her phone while chatting with other employees at the bar with her back toward the rest of the restaurant. Great ambiance. Awesome staff. They have HH until 6 pm. Good cocktails and some appetizers on HH menu. We were excited for the entree plates. The catfish was- YUM. I wish I had gotten that. I got a taste from a friend. I had the grilled chicken and another friend had the fried chicken. The chicken itself was really moist. It needed some flavor though. The corn on the plate was also bland and so were the mashed potatoes. The gravy on the potatoes was not good, at all. I'd suggest going there for drinks and burgers as those seemed to be a hit with other tables. I'd definitely go back but I'll stay away from the entree plates as the sides were no bueno. read more

Environment Nice patio seating if you are able to snag one. Service Poor. I can't speak for the other hostesses/servers but it was the guy who was also the bartender. We got our drinks and 20 min later he came to us to apologize and said he forgot to put in our orders which is an honest mistake. Then he double checked and he realized he did but he served it to the wrong table. The resolution he provided was that he asked if what we wanted to do from there: leave and go somewhere else or put in our orders. I asked how long it would take he said another 20 min but he said he would prioritize it in the kitchen. At this point we jst got our drinks and were hungry so we decided to stay but we were extremely dissatisifed in how the server handled the issue. It would have been nice if the server comped something or was more friendly but the only alternative we were given was to accept the situation or leave loll. If he really was the owner (he made a comment about building the place or something) then I would hope they improve the customer service a little more. Food/drinks: Burgers were good and flavorful but I didn't like the dry bun, would be way better with brioche. Side. My friend had chicken sandwhiches but the chicken was dry. Ham and bean cup of soup was mostly beans. Their dinner options looked slightly better so I can't speak for those items since I came for lunch. Out of all the cocktails our group got I thought mine was the most balanced. Got the summer collins which was a refreshing drink. Mint julep was very stiff may not be for everyone, wish there was more mint flavor? Washington Apple one was tasty too. Overall: I feel bad leaving poor review since this place seems new and I know it can be stressful/busy time period for a restaurant, everyone has their off days. I think they need to definitely improve the things mentioned above on menu and service. I would probably not return sadly based on above. read more

Great patio when the weather is nice for drinks and fun happy hour. Great specialty drinks and southern food. My only problem why I didn't get in five stars is I've had the shrimp and grits and a po-boy sandwich and a cheeseburger and two or three of the other a menu items The main course is always outstanding five of five but then their sides are always kind of okay and even their collard greens the one night were terrible. So maybe that was a one-off thing I'm not quite sure but that's how I didn't give them five stars. Wowza. What a find. I drove to Ellensburg from Seattle to meet up with an old friend, and on a whim we decided to try Julep for dinner and drinks. Our cocktails were divine (old fashion with a hint of pineapple and a watermelon margarita). The watermelon margarita tasted like a sip of summer, not overly sweet and definitely dangerously delicious. The old fashion had just a whisper of pineapple which was a welcome twist on one of my favorites. My friend and I ordered the fried pickles and oh my sweet baby jesus they were delicious. They weren't overly battered, and each bite was crunchy and salty and exactly what I wanted a fried pickle to be. I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with a side of honey, and it was honestly the most crispy, delicious, satisfying chicken sandwich I may have ever had. We arrived about half and hour before the kitchen closed, and they were pretty packed, so our waitress let us know that food was taking just a little longer to get out. The wait didn't seem overly long, and thanks to the heads up, we weren't left wondering why there was a slight delay. I will 100% be coming back to Julep the next time I'm in Ellensburg. Holy smokes that was tasty! 3 of us sat at the bar to have a drink and appetizer while our to go order was being prepared. The drinks (we had watermelon margaritas) were so refreshing on this super hot day. We had crisp and tasty fried pickles with a light dill ranch sauce while we waited for the rest of our meal. The staff was friendly and the inside of the place was pretty hip. I even heard the owner (who was bartending to help out) compliment the cooking staff. The vibe was relaxed and positive. When we got the rest of our food home it was still hot and the fried green tomatoes were still crisp. The pimento cheese dip and fried cauliflower appetizers were also pretty tasty. We got 2 fried chicken plates (nicely fried, but kind of bland- expected buttermilk) and the fried chicken wedge as our main dishes with cornbread (a little dry and didn't come with honey nor butter), mashed potatoes and gravy (both perfectly done), collard greens (too salty), and fried corn (soooooo good). I can't believe what an awesome place is in Ellensburg. Can't wait to come through here again. read more

Amazing service and quality. Bartenders were so kind for my first date in forever. Checked in every 15-30 minutes, made smalltalk at reasonable times. An interesting experience where our first time at Julep coincided with a crush of patrons and a shortage of staff. Victims of their own success I suppose. But, as rushed as the staff were, they did keep a positive attitude. However, the wait for service and then food was excruciatingly long. Would have been helpful to tell us that service was going to be very slow before seating us. Fortunately, we had the patience to wait. We ordered the grilled shrimp lettuce cups, fried shrimp po boy and the burger. When the food finally arrived, 75 minutes after being seated and 55 minutes after getting our orders taken, the food was quite good. Saving grace for the extended wait. Food is delicious! Had the fried cauliflower as an app and the shrimp po boy with tater tots. Who ever was working the frier that evening was on point! Everything was fried perfectly and not overly greasy! The serving size for the po boy was great! The food service was a bit slow, it seemed like the kitchen may have been in the weeds because our food took a long time to come out BUT the table service was pleasant and much appreciated. Great ambiance! Their cocktails were amazing! Service was friend. Note that while they close later than most places in Ellensburg they stop serving food at 9pm. I really enjoyed their Kiwi Bepop cocktail-subtly sweet/balanced. Their wine list has a good mix of dry and sweet. Upscale, updated, old vintage craft bar. The Wellness retreat (sub vodka) and Paloma cocktails were refreshing and well made. The wellness packs some ginger spice. Ordered the ranch burger with doctored French onion soup and catfish poboy. Both were delicious and finished. The catfish is fresh/never frozen. The cornmeal breading and sandwich roll itself were top notch and perfect; best poboy, in general, I've ever had. Side Coleslaw has mustard seeds and a heavier on the vinegar/mayo dressing. Really enjoyed the music and the vibe. Will be our new rest stop when crossing through. read more

If you find yourself in Ellensburg WA, be sure to eat at Julep, a cute little eatery in town. It has a few booths, maybe a half dozen 4-tops, and some seating in the bar area. It advertises itself as featuring Southern cuisine, but as a life-long resident) of that region, I would quibble. There's pimento cheese and fried chicken, but no chicken & dumplings, greens or okra, shrimp & grits (no grits of any sort). Lots of options for Po' Boys, but I don't really consider that a Southern staple. So my rating is based on food and service, not authenticity. The food was very good! I had fried cauliflower, garlic green beans, and mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy. The cauliflower came with a slightly spicy honey mustard dipping sauce, the beans were very garlicky (yay!), and the potatoes were freshly mashed. The gravy could have used more seasoning, but overall it was a plentiful plate of good good. I ate at the bar, and bartender Molly was slammed. But she never lost her friendly smile and courteous service. My glass of Washington chard was a perfect accompaniment. read more

En route to a see Brandi Carlile and Sarah McLachlan at the Gorge, we realized we had not eaten. Yelp had this as the fourth ranked restaurant in Ellensburg, but just by the menu it looked far more interesting than the other options. We struck gold! The place was hopping but we found a couple of spots at the bar and were greeted by our bartender/server who made us feel incredibly welcome and seen. A couple of stellar drink recommendations and we were sipping delightful cocktails. The Oaxan Sunrise is pictured. (Mezcal, tequila, apernol, coconut cream, lime and a spicy salt rim.) The food took its time to come out but it was piping hot and incredibly delicious. Must have: the Nashville Cauliflower bites. My meat loving companion said she'd easily give up fried chicken if all cauliflower tasted like this. A great hard crunch; perfectly cooked cauliflower and the sauces: wow!! Nashville hot and pink honey butter all the way!! Lots of tasty sandwiches and sides. Great southern food has found its way to the PNW! This place has been open just 8 months but it really makes Ellensburg the place to stay if you are Gorge bound! read more
