Stylist was sweet, but the owner's treatment of a first time client was enough to make sure I won't be back. Overpriced, poor customer service, never again! I was shocked at the pricing here -- $165 for a simple grey touch-up! Any other salon I have been charges roughly 90 dollars for the same service. For a basic color service, this is far above what's typical in our area. The work was ok, but the value for the money just isn't there, and I can't justify returning at these prices. This was actually my second visit. My first experience, just three weeks earlier, was very disappointing. I brought in a picture for reference, and the result looked nothing like it. I disliked it so much that I went home and contacted the salon to have it corrected. The original cost for the root touch-up plus highlights was $275. When I came back an hour later for the correction, the owner told me she had to charge me because I didn't say anything before leaving. I hadn't wanted to insult the hairdresser because she was sweet so I kept quiet at the time, but after going home, I felt strongly that I shouldn't have to pay $275 for something I didn't ask for. The owner then charged me another $67 to tone down the brightness, bringing the total for that day to over $350. I did not leave a tip for the second trip that day because I was not happy with the situation. Regrettably, I decided to give the salon another try, but had I known a root touch up would cost 165, I would never have given them another chance. Never again will I make the same mistake. And as a first time client, the owner charged me because I didn't speak up prior to leaving. I can't believe the owner treated a new client this way. 552 dollars in one month is insane! As a mother of four I had unfortunately put getting my hair done on the bottom of the priority list so I was in dire need of a new style. I am very happy with hair cut and color that I got with Michelle. She was very friendly and did an amazing job! I got a single process color, deep conditioning treatment and 2 inches and layers cut. My hair now looks so much shinier and healthier!! I also love that they use top of the line hair products so I don't have to worry about what I'm putting into my hair. read more

I have gone to Jules several times and the first few times I went there service was really good but the last time I was there I got a color blowdry and cut and I showed my stylist the picture of what I wanted and my end result was not what I wanted. Thisc my birthday present as much as many compliments ive gotten on my hair im not pleased with it. They will no longer be getting my service. read more

Appearantly if you're a person of color or with a person of color's hair style you cannot get your hair done at this establishment. "You can't come in to a hair salon with stylist who have predominantly white customers and expect them to do your kind of hair." These are the words of Julie Hunt the owner of the salon, just to justify what has happened to my girlfriends hair. The experience we had there was very conflicting. In the end it was not what we hoped it would be. I tried to surprise my girlfriend by bringing her to this salon. The service we received was very polite at that moment but the results and actions taken place afterwards was very horrendous. I bought a groupon deal to try this place out to see what I can do for Valentine's Day for my girlfriend since she hasn't been to a salon in a few years. Her hair wasn't the color she had asked for, the blow dry service (we were told would cost extra and the price we were told wasn't what was on their official website, which was less) wasn't done properly. In fact it was worst. Her hair wasn't blown dry the it should have been. The roots were very kinky all over, her hair was flat ironed at the ends to give the look of being done, and the whole flat iron process was done rather quickly. The fact that the owner tried establish the reason why my girlfriends hair didn't come out the way it should have was because it's not "white peoples" hair. She is Puerto Rican, her hair isn't even that bad. I tried talking and reasoning with the owner about redoing her hair and a refund for the blow drying. I was told, no, I was spoken to as if I was a child, with no sense of sympathy to meet my demands. I was only offered a recolor, which was from the groupon deal so that makes sense. The blow dry service, the one I had to pay extra for, she was refusing to understand our frustration and kept using her words to work angles to justify not giving me a refund. We paid for a service, we did not fully receive that service and we were not satisfied with said service. It's not that hard to understand why we should get the refund. She was being very rude, dismissive of our feelings and condescending. I'm not sure what kind of business they're running but if I were you I would reconsider going to this salon. Especially if you're a person with a "non-white people" hair according to the owner. Lets see what kind of service we'll receive after this review when we go for the re-coloring. read more

Jules is the best! I have been getting my hair cut by Jules for over 10 years and every time is perfect. I got one boliage (or however it is spelled) treatment that I seriously got compliments on for over a year. It even grew out beautifully! I highly recommend Jules! Love her!!! This salon keeps deleting my review. The salon is horrible at doing hair and cut 6 inches of my hair off when my hair was perfectly healthy. The person whom did my hair was Ann and she did a horrible job. The cut was horrible and so was the style. I complained to the owner and she would not refund the owner and told me I needed to take accountability. I asked for a trim not a cut. I have super curly hair so I know a cut would make my hair look super short as I have shrinkage. Do not go to this salon I am not sure how they have 4.5 stars. I think because the request the reviews to be deleted. Also they gave me a devacut even though I asked for the trim which cost around $200. Save your money and go to a salon that knows what they are doing. A little more insight the person who did my hair was not even listed on the website at the time she did my hair. This person was a person in training and they let her do my hair. I would give this salon zero if I could. Do not go to this salon. You have been warned! read more

Absolutely horrible. I booked a wash and hair cut and the hairdresser was making fun of the knots in my hair. They happen daily, I was explaining this to her, but she continued to shame me and sigh loudly as she brushed my knots out. I got up because I started to cry, told the owner, and she still made me pay for the shampoo I received even without a haircut. I drove down the street to another salon, showed up in tears, and they helped me out within minutes. Jules has no heart and her staff is rude and lacking in compassion. I was referred by a friend to this salon since I'm new to the state of CT. I googled the business and a Groupon popped up (even better I thought!). I bought 2 of them ($120). One was for me and one for my 10 year old daughter. It was for a haircut, partial highlights, and breaking up the base. We both have long hair and we only wanted our dead ends cut and layers touched up around the face. This would also be the first time I allowed my daughter to get highlights so the partial highlights were PERFECT. I booked the appointments almost 2 weeks out and I booked them with the owner, Julie. I read the Groupon thoughly and there wasn't any restrictions on who you can and cannot book with. I was referred to Julie personally. After I printed the Groupons, I did notice where it said that customers tip on the "value" of the Groupon which was $170 and not the cost of the Groupon which was $60. It went on to state that customers also tip "generously" and "that's why we have awesome customers". Personally, thought this part was tacky and just plain rude. I moved here from Atlanta, GA and I went to a very nice salon there which was 3 stories and had 23 stylists. The owner did my hair there and he owns 13 salons in VERY NICE areas. I have plenty of experience with salons and customer service. Most salons I have been to offer refreshments...anything from a simple coke product to coffee and cappuccinos. Jules Salon offered NOTHING. Jules Salon...I really debated on whether to write this review but I'm an avid review reader for any business I go to. I feel that my experience needs to be shared with anyone debating on whether to go there or not. Since I have had my share of my haircuts and color jobs back in my earlier years (I'm in my thirties now), I make SURE the best person in the salon does my hair which is generally the owner. Julie approached my daughter and I after we were sized up for a price from a short distance. I let her know that I found the Groupons online. She immediately (and rudely) informed me that she "doesn't do Groupons" and that "someone else would have to do our hair". I told her (nicely) that the Groupon did not state any restrictions on it which she replied "I know". She then informed me that she has a "full clientele" and "doesn't need new clients". I've NEVER heard anyone ever say that they didn't NEED new customers. At this point I really wanted to walk out but I knew that I was stuck with $120 worth of Groupons that offered "no refunds". I told Julie that it was unfortunate that this was the situation because I was referred to her by one of her customers and I was looking for someone to do mine and my daughter's hair on a permanent basis. She walked away but then came back to say that she would "honor" the Groupon and do my hair but someone else in her salon was doing my daughter's hair. She did do my hair but it was oh so obvious that she was pissed about it. She rushed through it and although we did talk maybe 5 minutes....she wasn't friendly at all. I looked over at my daughter who was 2 chairs down and realized she wasn't put under the dryer to process her highlights. I questioned this to Julie and she informed me that it wasn't needed. I've been getting my hair highlighted for 22 years and I've ALWAYS been put under the dryer to process the color. The stylist that did my daughter's hair was SUPER SWEET but she needed a lot of instruction from Julie. She needed so much instruction that I questioned Julie if she was brand new. Julie was very snotty with her answer and never did give a clear one but the answer was obviously YES, she was really new. I did not come to this salon for someone to practice on me or my daughter. You cannot even tell my daughter got highlights at all. I wanted her to have natural highlights like me but you cannot even see her highlights.....maybe because they weren't processed? Hummm Overall, we both got great haircuts and I do like my hightlights but I would never waste my money at this place again. The lady at the reception desk was very pleasant and I left a $40 tip for the 2 stylist to split. I honestly should not have left anything. Julie also informed me while she was doing my hair how the salon is usually very busy on Saturdays and if they had been very busy then she wouldn't have been able to do my hair. WOW. I made an APPOINTMENT! This whole experience was unfortunate and it's too bad the owner treats customers this way. It's pretty sad she feels that she doesn't need new customers. I guess she feels she has made it big with her little salon and 4 chairs in Watertown. I'm used to awesome customer service in way nicer salons with a cappuccino to boot! I get the last laugh in the end because she could have made SO MUCH money off of me in the future but there are far too many awesome salons in the area to go to one that acts like you are punishing her by making her take your money to do her job.
