Love, love, LOVE SALT Hair! On top of being such a cute and cozy salon, everyone at SALT is SO talented and leaves all of their clients looking fabulous. I have been seeing Cristal, SALT's resident brunette specialist, and she has done wonders for my hair. It is healthier, can now actually hold the elusive ashy brown/bronde color I love so much (those who have this color KNOW what I'm talking about) and she ALWAYS makes me look and feel like a million bucks during and after my visits. I mean, what more could I ask for? In addition, Cristal (as well as the rest of the SALT gang) is also very transparent about what to expect out of your visit (including costs) and will discuss your hair goals and what it will honestly take to achieve them. I got my hair colored here and it is outrageously priced. I have hair above my shoulders and they balayaged half my head and cut 1/2 inch off for $300. The stylist seemed inexperienced due to her lousy shampoo job. My hair color came out brassy and my haircut was uneven. It's a nice salon but the quality for what you pay is not there. They also have an elevated wooden moulding in the middle of the salon that I almost tripped over while walking back from getting my hair shampooed. read more

After moving to Connecticut and seeing a few different stylists who left me frustrated with shorter and thinner hair; I finally mustered up the courage to go to Salt and give it another go because my hair needed help in the color department. I booked an appointment with Kristen after she was recommended for color melting and I am soo glad I did. She not only listened to what I wanted but she also recreated it beautifully without doing what "she thinks is best". I finally left a salon happy and my hair still looks amazing. The cut was minimal (exactly what I wanted) and the color melt and face framing balayage looks perfect. Despite what I felt like was a very well done consultation, my hair came out nothing like what I expected. I asked for a more dense blonde root than the grown out balayage that I had and wanted the rest of the hair to be as cool and bright blonde as possible. My hair came out looking the same as when I went in. I didn't get a single compliment on it because no one could tell that anything had been done to it. I don't usually complain, but for the amount of effort I put in to get my hair done here I couldn't fake excitement. Everyone seemed confused and surprised that I didn't like it and kept making excuses as to why what I wanted was not what I got. The excuse they continued to circle back to was that they did not want to damage by hair, but my main complaint was that my roots were not brought high enough or blonded densely enough, which is a placement issue not a level issue (although I also felt that my ends were not lightened enough, considering they've been bleached consistently for 2 years and were already fairly light). I told them I was not available to come back any time soon because I work most weekends, and everyone just told me that the salon manager would be in touch. I paid and tipped, with the full expectation that someone would right the situation for the price I paid. I get that miscommunications happen between stylists and customers, and it was clear that my colorist was talented and seemed personally disappointed that I was not happy. The reason I gave this experience 2 stars is because I expect luxury treatment when I'm paying for a luxury service. I felt that I got luxury treatment up until I said that I didn't like my end result. No one reached out to me as I was told, and finally after waiting 9 days I reached out to the salon myself. It took them 24 hours to give me a call back, and the manager did not apologize for never contacting me during our first conversation. The lack of follow up said to me that I am not a valued customer, that they wanted my money and wanted me out of their hair (pun intended). This was confirmed when further correspondence did not validate any of my feelings about the look of my hair (not a single "I'm sorry" to be found), and placed the burden of fixing it on me both financially (they did not offer to comp or discount a second appointment) and time-wise, since I live out of state and would have to travel for the appointment. That's half a paycheck I'll never see again, but I got so worked up defending my feelings on the call and after reading their email response I ended up in tears, so I've decided to drop the issue and take my business elsewhere. read more

She listens to exactly what I want, gives me tips and recommends products to make the color last and healthy in between appointments. You can tell she really cares about the craft. Such a unique and lovely salon. It is an upscale luxury color salon with a laid back, warm vibe! The stylists are all super skilled and kind. My stylist is the lovely Kristen and I trust her completely with my hair. She listens and answers all my questions. She gives me ideas for new looks and has gradually taken my hair from a dark brown to a nice blonder dimensional balayaged look in 3 visits. I learned that going blonde is not a quick fix for most and it is a journey to not let your hair fry off!! I am thrilled with the results we have achieved. My life has changed since finding Salt. As an artist (oil painting), I can be a bit OCD, with very particular ideas of how things should be, and expect perfection. I spent years in NY and had many *great* colorists. None hold a candle to Kristina. Kristina has always listened to my crazed/OCD wants and needs, executed them flawlessly, while sending me out with my dream hair color that is in better condition than I could have ever dreamed of! I drive two hours each way for my appointments and it is worth every single minute. She listens, works with me, is a pleasure to spend time with, and also gently guides me through the process it takes to get my naturally dirty blonde hair to the tow-headed vision I dream of. The salon is gorgeous- modern, comfortable, and without an ounce of pretension. Every single person who works there is friendly and welcoming. The space is chic, with great natural light, modern "live edge" wood stations, a light and clean bohemian ambiance that feels fresh and current- all the while exuding the personality of the owner, Jamie. My only complaint? That they're not closer to where I live. And that's not their fault- it's mine. And I really should figure out a way to relocate! If they were any closer I would bring back the great habit of women getting their hair washed & set weekly. I went to Salt today to inquire about an appointment. I just moved to the area from Phoenix, AZ, and am embarking on the difficult task of finding a new salon after leaving a stylist I loved for the last 5 years. I left Salt disappointed. I looked at their reviews and salon menu before stopping by. I typically do all over color with a few chunky, face framing highlights - services that are listed on their menu. However, when I stopped in I was told that they are a "creative color" salon and don't offer those services. The woman at the front wasn't rude per se, and she did offer me the names of other salons that might consider taking me on as a client, but I have never left a business feeling so embarrassed, small, and insignificant. I understand that what I want probably isn't something that they're going to put on their Instagram, but I've never been refused service anywhere, and I left feeling like I was beneath them. Obviously, I can't speak to the quality of their services - it looks like they do beautiful work, but I would encourage them to update their menu to more accurately reflect the services they offer if they are going to reject potential clients based on the services they are looking for. read more

I don't leave reviews, and never had to leave a bad one.. but this place takes the cake. Some of the staff and owner made me feel like I wasn't good enough to come here, like a liar.... and then, just like that, I was dismissed. If you value honesty, and want to feel acknowledged, this may not be the place for you. I came to this salon in hopes of a local place with good service and talent. My first visit was quite nice, I had a balayage and a good start to getting my hair where I wanted it to be. Second visit, not so much. I left with brassy roots that look unevenly grown out and an overly-processed, bleached out white strip of hair framing my face like something out of the 80's. When I called with my concerns, I was pretty much attacked. I was told that my brassy roots were already there, that I was thoroughly consulted about something I had never heard of, and that it was my fault because I just didn't listen. Cherry on top was that after 2 days of emails back and forth, along with pics I sent them, I received an email that said that I requested "a strip as white as the wall" (quote right out of the email)...2 days later.. as if they "forgot" that pretty important detail... and that the stylist was just trying to make me happy!! The owner asked what I would like to do moving forward, and I said I would like to see another stylist, but instead she refunded me and asked me not to come back.... Ha! As if it was unimaginable that they could make any mistakes... Not once did anyone suggest I come back for them to look at it, I even offered to stop by... my concerns were never acknowledged, and the interaction was very dismissive and generic. I also told them it was not about the money, but oh well.. refund accepted.
