Several years ago I got tired of having my clothes butchered by Men's Wearhouse and someone recommended I try Julian's. His prices scared me at first but I had him tailor a sports coat that had given everyone I had gone to trouble and I have been coming to him ever since. His work is nothing short of superb. Other's have already commented on how he is a master of his trade and I can only echo that sentiment. His prices are indeed higher than most and he does not take credit cards, but with Julian's I get my clothes tailored ONCE. Before, I would have to get my clothes tailored multiple times and sometimes at different locations, so I look at it as paying for time saved. Julian's customer service to me is a throw back of how customer service must have been when my Dad was young. This place is great. I had to get some pants hemmed for work, and found this place online. I was greeted upon entering the store by Julian himself. He was very personal and welcoming. he then showed me to the changing room to put the pants on that needed to be hemmed to ensure the final alteration was precious. I highly recommend this place for clothing alterations, I will come back every time I need clothing altered. It is also worth noting that their services are fairly priced and are fulfilled in a timely manner. read more

I had some tailoring done to an item. The job was completed but it took a little longer than anticipated. I noticed that some hemming was not completed. At the end I was disappointed in the cost of things. I told the owner that the item could of been replaced at half the cost. I was led to believe the repair would take approximately 1 hour. I told the owner he should give his customers an estimate in the future and he said he does not work that way. In the end I gave him what it would cost for a new item should I have gone that route. read more

Warmly greeted when I went in by a man with a great sense of humor. Had a zipper replaced on my snow jacket and it was done in great quality. Dropped it off Monday and had it back by Wednesday. Nice people and cute little dog in the shop. read more

Not cheap but they know what they are doing. As with any good tailor you are paying for their time and experience. I have been going there for 15 years for tailoring suits, shirts, pants. Just had 8 shirts custom fitted and they even matched the restitching threads perfectly. Cant answer to the cost but you are paying for an experienced tailor, and not a seamstress. If you want something custom made they have every material you can imagine. read more

I've been to this tailor many times for small items and other alterations and never had a problem. The owner is not condescending as someone stated here. He has a sarcastic sense of humor, which I enjoy and always end up laughing while I'm in the shop. I highly recommend this tailor for all items big or small. read more

I went to Julian's with my boyfriend to get a jacket sleeves shortened, my boyfriend is Mexican and speaks Spanish and Julian was speaking to him in spanish when he looked at me and told me something in Spanish I told him I don't speak Spanish. He said "your mexican and you don't speak spanish?" I told him no I don't and gave him a stare down. Thinking back I wish I would have told him this is America not Mexico! My boyfriend and I will not go back to his shop. My sister also got pants hemmed there before and he's very flirtatious! Not becoming for a business owner. I wouldn't recommend his shop! read more

I'm not from the area, so I wasn't sure who to bring my dress to for alterations. A few people I knew recommended Julian's tailor shop. I've seen it a dozen times walking around downtown Salinas, but i've never walked in. Finally, I walked into Julian's Tailor shop with my dress and shoes in hand. Upon first going in, I was already impressed before I even spoke to anyone. The shop was clean, organized, and so .. professional! Little did I know, they only did men's clothing.. maybe women's too.. but definitely not dresses. The front guy mentioned he didn't do dresses, but he didn't turn me away. Instead, he told me He'd have a look at what i needed done and assess. I changed into my dress and stood in front of the mirror. He started marking up my dress with chalk and within a few min he was done assessing. $115 for hemming a bridesmaid dress and taking it in at the bust... YIKES. BUt it was cheaper than a previous seamstress quote. I was impressed with the guy and the shop, but for that price and for someone who doesn't do dresses, I decided to go with someone else who specialized in dresses. I may come back for other needs... Just know, this place is pricey! read more

I agree that this shop does excellent, fast work. However, the owner is so condescending that I've hesitated to go there for a long time. I had a rush project this last week, and I was assured that they could do it and it would be ready by closing time the next day. I arrived to pick up the garment 45 minutes before the posted closing time to find the shop closed. So, instead of getting my project to the person I wanted to give it to while he was here visiting from college, now I have to mail it to him; I couldn't give it to him in person because Julian's wasn't open when they said they would be. Also, just a little thing, I don't think I want to patronize a business who gives me grief about biting my nails. It's just none of his business. read more

Went in there for a quick resolve of a pocket torn off of coat. The owner wouldn't even try to help. I think he thought it was beneath him. Sent me somewhere else. Would not recommend for simple repairs. read more

My wife and I are very meticulous about the quality of work, since the cost of tailoring is generally somewhat high. We were never completely satisfied with other tailors until Julian opened his shop. Since then, we haven't gone anywhere else and haven't been disappointed. Julian is a character, but in a good sense, and not at all racist in our opinion. Neither my wife or I are Hispanic, and he has always treated us with a friendly and professional attitude. We know of others who go to Julian's and haven't heard any complaints about him or the quality of his work. read more

Here is the deal, this guy is obviously a fine suit tailor. So ikf you are bringing in anything other than that he will belittle you to the hilt! I strolled around town looking for someone to fix a 2" tear in one of my shirts and every single place stated it would be about a 2 day minimum wait to get my shirt back. Well I needed it by the next day. The owner at Perry's on S. Main stated that Julian's Tailor Shop could do it in a timely manner but for a little higher cost. Well I was desperate and needed it down quick. So I headed to Julian's. I walked in and saw this man in the back room who came out to greet me. He didn't say Hi or anything but I asked him if I could get a price quote to repair the 2" hole in my shirt. Well he grabbed it out of my hands, looked it over and headed straight to his sewing machine. In less than 30 seconds, he was done! Amazing work! He handed it to me and said $3.00. I was shocked at how fast, the excellent craftsmanship and the cost! I read and understand some of the other posts on here about him coming off strong. He was very matter of fact but did do an excellent and fast job. The place was very clean as well. I didn't experience anything bad while I was there. I did look at his prices posted on his board and they are a bit pricey but he is one of the best tailors here in Salinas. Great tailor and I highly recommend his work!!! I am in the medical field and he reminds me of a superb surgeon who does not have any bedside manner. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. read more
