Stopped in Ny and was looking for a quick bite and this place caught my eye. I ordered the chicken stew lunch special it was very good, I got red beans instead of black. This dish was $10 and it was a nice portion, I still have some for later. Other items we ordered was the pepper steak Lunch special with black beans which was just ok and the Sancocho was the least favorite which is why I went for 4 stars it was watery, bland and the meat was tough. Julia's Coffee Shop has good food, a friendly staff and a great relaxed vibe. I work down the street from Julia's and started going there sometimes for lunch. I was happy they had a variety of options, including healthy ones as I try to eat clean. I am able to get a teriyaki chicken bowl which both satisfies my cravings and supports my macros. The food is well made and fresh but it's the staff that makes the difference. They are friendly, refer to customers by name and always welcome you with a smile. Our students have pictures with staff on the wall everywhere. They serve many of the businesses, schools and members of the community. Updated: I've had a good experience before ordering delivery from Julia's Shop but today I got a note that was rather disappointing which caused me to lose my appetite. I would have paid for the avocado if there was an option on Uber Eats but there isn't. They could have called me about it and I would have been okay with them charging it. Not only did they not put the avocado, there's other wraps on the menu that cost the same as this one but those have meat, cheese and avocado. So they weren't going to be losing anything. This wrap only has cheese and no dressing and it costs the same as those with meat, cheese and avocado. The message was rude. I ended up not eating and throwing away the wrap. Fast delivery and the food is consistent. My favorite is the Salsalito Turkey sandwich with curly fries. They close early so I try to catch them on my days off. They have a diverse menu that includes Mediterranean to Hispanic dishes along with usual breakfast options. They also make smoothies and natural juices. Their salads are really good & although a salad is something simple, I've gotten a salad twice from another restaurant & I'm not sure why it is, but one time it was the tomatoes that had a funny taste & the second time it was the tomato's again along with the cucumbers, so I just said going forward I can't order that from that restaurant. In an attempt to support local businesses we have placed over $300 worth of orders for delivery with Julia's Coffee Shop over the past couple weeks. While we have experienced some minor nuisances such as instructions "please label" or "wrap separately" not being followed, we've had some major issues with our past 2 orders. They contained hot coffee which has arrived soaking a bag full of food and napkins after having macerated through the bottom of the paper cup it was in. In order to prevent a repeat, we specified "PLEASE don't put the coffee in a paper cup. It arrived dissolved and the coffee was in the bag 2 days ago" but it appears that the staff at Julia's Coffeeshop does not read, understand, or let alone follow customer instructions or requests. Other reviews on here suggest that our experience with rude staff is not unique. Trying to resolve the matter over the phone, they were defensive and trying to put the blame on us rather than acknowledging the problem and trying to find amicable ways to remedy the situation. They even went as far as to insinuate dishonesty about the whole matter -- "I never heard of that problem" and "then just don't order coffee from us!" -- excuse me please? I am perplexed by such shortsightedness. We want local businesses in our neighborhood to thrive but will be selective with who we want to support. After these incidents it doesn't appear we've made the right choice with Julia's Coffeeshop. read more

I will give this restaurant another try in a few weeks because unfortunatelly today they messed up. Usually I would come in order, eat, and treat every single person right. Food was usually on point. I had to delete my previous 5 star review because it's no longer the case with this restaurant. I understand the pandemic and Covid has hit some restaurants hard and that is why I keep ordering. Always willing to pay for decent or good service and help a local business out because it is our comminity. Honestly I would give zero stars and would had asked the bank for a refund, but I won'tbecause I think the problem is not the owner's fault but part of a disrespectful staff member or just a person having a bad day. With food the most important thing for me is accuracy and cleanliness. If a comment or statement is made and is not understood... the staff should call and ask for clarification. Never make an assumption and do whatever they want with the food. As I mentioned I would gladly pay and tip or work with the restaurant so both of our goals are met. I won't share what the staff did with my food because it will affect business. I would also order again because this has to be a "today" thing for this restaurant. But the owner or someone needs to make their staff accountable because we are all trying to support each other during these times. Please to the owner, if you want to discuss the incident I will gladly order again and update the review. No I don't want refunds, from a restaurant all I need is the food to be done right. If you feel the staff is not happy, speak to them... ask them what is wrong. Take care of them. Don't let them take it out on the customers. If this goes on, many people will keep posting lower reviews and maybe even asking for refunds. Do NOT let your staff play arround with what another person pays to eat. I just stopped in desperate for some food and I was pleasantly surprised with my experience. Everyone inside was nice and welcoming and I didnt feel pressured to quickly order. I got the El Regular which is a burrito with eggs, bacon, cheese, and their potatoes. The potatoes made it very filling and fluffy and it complemented the crispy bits of bacon. Normally, I have a great experience however today not so much. The girl with the colorful hair behind the counter was making me an all natural juice. This juice was supposed to consist of pineapple, pear, and ginger. When she was making it I noticed she added celery. I didn't saying to her because I thought it was for another customer. When she gave it to me I said this drink is not correct. She then proceeded to argue with me when she realized I was correct, She begins to make another drink. This lady did not clean the machine and then gave it to me. My new drink now had green floating particles in it. You would think the manager would apologize to me instead caught an attitude and said it's a problem today. They spoke in Spanish calling me names thinking I wouldn't understand. Today my tea was made with to much half&half to where it just looked like milk in the cup, I couldn't even taste the tea. i politely asked if the tea could be remade because of the quality of it and I was denied. As I talked to the cashier another individual chimes in and told me that if he remade my tea he would be losing out on product. I then asked if maybe I could get a smaller cup and transfer half of the tea over and I was told that if he gave me a smaller cup he would be losing out on 30cents. after two years of giving my money to these people you would think I was worth at least a tea bag but no. I just received my ubereats and I would like to say this is one of the worst experiences I have had as in delivery. I ordered blackened shrimp salad which said it had salmon in it - it did not. The greens were soggy, no seasoning, tasted like dirt - someone just tossed them in water and then in the plastic bowl. The shrimp was spicy and nice but the rest was disgusting. The fries were soggy and old - I asked for mayonnaise on the side- it was not given. The smoothie I ordered (orange ginger lemon pineapple) was actually not a smoothie. OMG this place was a total hole in the wall but it was delicious! The lady who took our order was really nice. The menu was simple but all I was really looking for was bacon and eggs type of breakfast. I ordered 2 eggs, bacon and potatoes and coffee. For a simple breakfast, it was absolutely delicious. I really loved the food. And I really loved the price. It was super affordable. It's in the Bronx so it's not in some touristy area but it's definitely good. I was visiting a school and was looking for a place to grab a bite so I walked into Julia's Coffee Shop. I ordered a slice of cheese cake and s cup of coffee and went off to their restroom. When I walked into the Men's Room, I was surprised by how clean it was. The walls were sparkling and I couldn't remember the last time I was in any restaurant's restroom that was as spotless and fragrant this one! I returned to the counter and tasted the cheesecake and I was amazed at how delicious it was and their coffee was fresh and tasty too ! This is a great coffee shop and the guys who work here really care about the quality of their food and clearly the cleanliness of their space! Score I left, I was compelled to comment on the bathroom's and one of the owners assured me that they take great pride in keeping their restrooms spotless! I want to go back! Had a breakfast craving for corned beef hash and a corn muffin. Ended up having to get the platter... (its a better value than the two items ala carte) the corn muffin i asked for it toasted with butter on the grill. Unfortunately nothing could save the dry corn muffin or make it better , the corn beef was standard , from can to container with a pit stop on the grill. The home fries with onions and peppers were all the same color and faded like the ghost of christmases past. And tasted like christmases past as well, lack of flavor , or any care while making them. Somewhere along the way it seems home fries got boring to make for some, and that sentiment is well expressed here. The platter came with toast. I got the wheat toast requesting it with extra butter. Im glad i got the extra butter, which translated to butter essence. Which to me should look like a decent amount rather than the streak of whatever was left over after you stopped giving a puck, or pat. For the price of almost 14 dollars , (i know covid is driving the prices up) i know i probably should have made it myself, but if that was breakfast, could you imagine the sadness of lunch? We were pleasantly surprised by the selection. It's quaint and clean. Service was good and the food filled us up to the top. My cup of coffee was creamer and sugared just right. I work near by, and I order from here Monday-Friday. Even when I received the wrong order or my order was delayed, and cold. I have never complained due to the customer service and the kind people I was fooled to believe worked here. Today, I placed an order over the phone. However, I had to add on to the order and asked if I could order from Seamless. I was told to do so, but I was never told that there would be a difference when ordering through seamless. I expected there to be a coffee with the platter but that wasn't the case. I was told that once you place an order on seamless they don't honor the coffee that comes with the platter. I asked if a coffee can be delivered to me and I will pay for it, since that wasn't clearly stated anywhere. They stated that I would have to place an additional 6 dollar order. I, then asked to speak to the manager. Who again, has always been kind. I asked what was the difference and his response was that "they honor cards and we don't. We work for them. You don't read instructions." I proceeded to ask for my coffee and clearly stated I would pay for the coffee. I, again, was told about the 6 dollar minimum. I told him I just spent 20 dollar on the order. He clearly stated "I don't care how much you've spent here" and proceeded to hang up on me. I have never been treated with such disrespect from an establishment that I have spent so much of my hard earned money at. It became clear that the owner DOES NOT CARE about his customers. Today I ordered eggs with beef sausage and home fries. I added extra sausage for 2.00 there was no option to specify pork or beef but common sense if I originally ordered a beef sausage why would you think I want extra pork sausage. When I called to inform them I do not eat pork the young lady tried to justify her actions by saying oh everytime people order extra sausage they always want it mixed you should have put in the notes extra beef sausage. I just wanted my beef sausage the pork was already on my eggs and home fries which I couldn't even eat. So me being pregnant and hungry I just asked could I get the beef sausage after the back and forth explanation she claimed there was no delivery driver at the moment I told her fine call back in. Minutes . An hour later I get a call for delivery he has the beef sausage but he will not give me my beef sausage until I return the pork sausage. I told him never mind no thank you. They were very unprofessional and embarrassing the whole staff seen when he basically snatched the bag back From me because I didn't have the old order and I refused to go back upstairs to come back down. I ordered through Grubhub , after placing my order I subbed my side order for corn beef hash because my partner does not eat pork I was charged $5 extra after calling restaurant to verify if this would be an issue. It cost 3.50 for a side order of corn beef hash so to be charge 5 dollars for something I am substituting was ridiculous as I could of got the item I substituted and a side of corn beef hash at a lower price. When calling the restaurant the first time I should of been told I would be charged and would of changed it right there, but of course it would be better for them to charge and up feee after order is placed so a consumer would see changes after receiving the order I've worked in restaurant business and this how the game works. I later called soon as I seen the charges and told the person on the phone this should of been related to me prior and bc it wasn't I do not want the order it was sneaky on their end and I will never waste a dime at this establishment. I kept hearing great things about Julia's so I decided to give it a shot. I have been addicted ever since! Delivery time is under their promised time, just about always. I usually receive my food in under 20 minutes and they always get my order right and deliver with a smile. I usually order their chicken wraps or salads because their grilled chicken is THAT good. While their seasoning is great, what keeps me coming here is the fact that they make it their duty to cut out any of the fatty parts of the chicken. I am extremely picky about this and Julia's does a great job about ensuring your chicken is all white meat. Julia's also offers freshly squeezed juices and a variety of teas. You can find anything from veggie burgers to rice and beans. Lots of variety here. There's seating which is always nice. An added plus? They have free wifi for the local hospital staff and teachers nearby! I hear its a fairly new business (under a year and a half old) and they're doing so well. This is what I think of when I think of an old school coffee shop. It may lack the luster that some will want. It has some seating and 2 bathrooms. The owners and staff are extremely friendly. The best part is the food, it's great and very reasonable for a place in the city. I go here twice a week. I get greeted with respect, and a genuine feel of, being more then just another customer. I get a very full and well made ham and cheese sandwich on a roll, with a large coffee. ALL this for $6.53. I live in upstate NY, in what most call the country, and this is the price I pay up here. I really like this place and would recommend it to anyone that wants a great breakfast at a great price. I have not tried there lunch menu, but based on there breakfast, I can't imagine it being anything less, then good food at a good price.
