I've been suffering scalp itching for decades now and I never knew how to deal with it. Whenever I went to physicals doctors never really dealt with it. Finally decades later my primary doctor had recommended me to go to a dermatologist. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They recommended me Julie iwasaki, glen iwasaki, good dermatologist. I called Julie's practice first and was shocked to have a 3 month wait. But something told me if she's booked for 3 months ahead she must be good.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However I had an immediate skin condition that needed to be dealt with and went to good dermatologist instead. I honestly didn't have the best experience there. I had 2 doctors one wasn't helpful and the second was way better but overall experience I didn't like so waited for Julie's appointment. She was super kind gave me immediate solutions and asked me to return in 2 months. I'm excited to finally to find a doctor that is willing to work with me. On a side note, I found out doctor Gwen Iwasaki is her mother and a rare doctor who can speak Japanese. The caveat is she only takes medicare patients. I know there is a whole Japanese community desperately looking for Japanese speaking doctors so if there are any patients with medicare needing Japanese assistance I suggest trying her mother's practice. read more

I have eczema. When I had a flare-up, I'm grateful the doctor helped me do a lab test to confirm it was a reenactment of my eczema and not psoriasis. My first visit was only 3/5 stars -- but that's because I was in a rush, everyone was so busy, and I didn't come prepared to wait. But today was 5/5. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had a new appreciation for the three front desk ladies who did their best handling customer service despite being busy every moment of their workday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Dr. Iwasaki was helpful, and she didn't recommend that I try to rush my healing and depigmentation process (which was reasonable), but she still respected my wishes to try safe products to reduce the pigmentation. And it's good to be under dermatologist care / be monitored when trying a new routine, especially because there's so much predatory advertising out there. I got an exfoliant from her office, and I'll be trying it for the next 3 months with hopes to depigment my skin. Billing was a problem for me. I went in at the referral of my PCP. Using my insurance I was charged for the copay. 3 months later I received a bill for the office visit and treatment. Never being told this wasn't going to be covered by my insurance or how much it was going to cost out of pocket. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I guess should have confirmed everything at the time. I have never had to do that for a referral to a specialist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The assumption is that insurance is covering the visit. t attended to call an and ask questions was difficult. At my first appointment with Dr Iwasaki, my first derm appointment ever, they were updating their computer system so it was down and they were running behind as a result. Nevertheless, Dr. Iwasaki took the time was very professional, nice and provided me a thorough examination. She noticed a mole that looked slightly unusual and ordered a biops. It turned out to be malignant melonoma which they were able to get a same day referral and appointment to have it removed. Now it's complately gone as Dr Iwasaki caught it very early, stage 1. She has me on a frequent follow up schedule in order to ensure my skin stays healthy as I spent a lot of unprotected sun time in my younger year. I went to Dr. Julie Iwasaki in June, the experience was not bad. However, today (12/18/2025) I had an appointment at 10:00am and when I arrived the front desk said I did not have an appointment. They said they would help me, but I sat in the waiting room for 40 minutes and no one said anything to me. The girls at the front desk were busy planning their Starbucks order. So, I left. I get back to work and I receive a phone call from the office. They asked if I was still around and I said no since I "did not have an appointment" and sat for 40 minutes. The girl (I wish I got her name) said they were taking the patients who had appointments first, and I reiterated that I did have an appointment. The girl said "okay" and just hung up on me. My grandfather also sees Dr. Julie and this has happened to him as well. Dr. Julie is not the reason for 2 stars (in fact she's the reason it is not a 1 star), the horrible receptionists are. So far, I like Dr Julie Iwasaki as a dermatology specialist doctor. I came here out of a new referral. I wasn't happy at all with my previous dermatologist doctor nor his office (staff). It felt like it lacked humanity and compassion. So, I asked my doctor to write me up a brand new referral to a different office and different doctor, which she them matched me up with Dr Iwasaki. In 2023, it feels most referral appointments seem to take 2-3 months to schedule, meaning you call to set an appointment up and they'll tell you, the next available date is 2-3 months from now. That's if your doctor referred you in for a routine appointment, but if it's categorized as urgent or a different priority, you might get an appointment sooner. Those might be logistical facts, so as the last derm office lacked a certain bedside manner in how they spoke to patients and presented the scheduling situation, that communication and compassion toward the patient always needs to be top of mind with the staff when addressing the scheduling process. There's the nice and humanitarian way or the curt, short and impatient way. Communication is always key in what / how you say things to deliver the same message. This review is based off of my first meeting and treatment by Dr. Iwasaki. I'll follow up with an update as I have another appointment forthcoming. read more

All of my interactions with Dr. Iwasaki have been nothing but pleasant. She is a great doctor. Office staff is nice as well. HOWEVER every time I come here I end up waiting around 30+ min just to get seen. Office logistics need to be improved. If I have an appointment at 10:30 and arrive early, I should not be waiting around until past 11 just to get into a room. Appointments have times for a reason. Please do better. read more

I can't say enough about Dr Iwasaki. I love her staff, and I love how personal she is with her clients. She's been my dermatologist for more than 5 years, dealing with psoriasis. Also during this time i had a huge weight loss for me. When losing weight caused my skin folds to have rashes between. So embarrassing but she treated me for infections between my skin folds. I finally decided to have Panniculectomy surgery to have my extra skin removed to finally get ride of that horrible infection, smell and discomfort. I've been Dr. Iwasaki's patient for many years now. She is knowledgable, caring and getting appointments is relatively easy (except during Covid but that's with all doctors). She is conservative with her treatments and willing to try different things to make sure your skin ordeals improve- she doesn't use a one size fits all type of plan but bases it on your individual needs. She first introduced me to Ziana for my adult acne. My acne wasn't bad at all but during my time of the month, I'd get 1-3 really bad cyst pimples. Drove me crazy. Based on her recommendations, I've been using Ziana to combat my monthly breakouts. My skin calmed a lot down. She's approachable about many of your concerns. She has excellent products to try at her office. She never pushes you to get them, but always leaves it up to the patient as an option. I love the green tea based zinc oxide sunscreen- mineral based but it doesn't leave a white cast and it moisturizes your skin. She accepts most insurance plans and I appreciate her office ran my benefits to find out what is covered under my insurance. She also offers telemedicine which I appreciated during Covid, I didn't have to go into her office and she was still able to thoroughly look at my skin through my cell phone. Her office practices all Covid precautions. She is honest with what she can or can't do for you. Some patients might not like this but I appreciate her being forthcoming and not just trying to make a buck off of me. read more

My appointment was for a full body scan and some dermatitis. She refused to address the body scan which was the primary reason for the appointment and made me come back in a month and pay another specialist high copay. During the first visit she sold me on some dermatitis items that I could have gotten cheaper elsewhere but figured I might as well just get it now. It was also recommended I purchase a mineral sunscreen that is her own brand and manufacturing at a very high cost. It smells moldy and horrible and I can't even use it. On the second visit for the body scan she also tried to sell me more stuff that she's representing so it's a bit like a snake oil salesman and she took a cell phone call before she completed the full body scan that was for my first appointment and never completed it. I also had to wait quite a while to be seen so they still have not gotten their scheduling worked out. After all of this, I feel like I have to go to another dermatologist that has more time to actually get a proper full body scan. read more

Even though you need to cancel or pay $40, they over book! My appointment was for skin rashes on the ears and a body check for melanoma. I told the nurse I had melanoma in the past and questioned me if that was true. Once the doctor arrived and I was undressed, she looked at my scar from the melanoma and then confirmed. I guess the nurse didn't believe me. Then I was told I wasn't having my body check because she was only focusing on my ears. And didn't have time for anything else. I was scheduled to come back in 2 weeks! They call my work to confirm my appointment a week before! $$$ I tried cancelling and they didn't answer their phone for days.I had to call 3 times because they didn't get my name and they still called back to ask if I wanted to cancel! Dr. Iwasaki is an excellent Dermatologist. I have been treated for skin cancer and other related skin conditions. She is warm, thoughtful, listens and develops a treatment plan. She explained my options before treatment and answered all my questions. I have never had a bad experience or ever felt rushed in her office. I have been treated with liquid nitrogen many times for sun damage, I will say removing anything from your skin will leave a mark, then it heals. I have never experienced her to be curt or flippant period. She is a very caring conscientious physician. Many times when leaving her office she will say if I have any questions or concerns about my skin or any treatment performed to call or come back in and let her take a look at it. She was the first MD TO FINALLY diagnose this horrendous balding problem and when I asked her if she can check out this terrible acne on my body she did it without question and didn't make me suffer having to go through another referral process. Shady. I went in to see Iwasaki for a small cyst on my back in Nov. 2020, that I couldn't see but was causing me pain. She told me If it bothered me, she would remove it. It would be deemed "cosmetic" and $600 the day of procedure. I told her multiple times how is it cosmetic if it causes me pain and I physically cannot see it? She didn't listen. Kept claiming cosmetic, won't be covered by insurance. Iwasaki is in my network and still WOULDNT run my insurance. Two weeks later I get it removed, and pay the $600 that day. I call my insurance because it didn't feel right. My insurance had a 3 way call with one of her receptionist (very unfriendly people). My insurance rep tells them, since they're in network, Iwasaki is legally under contract to submit a claim within 120 days, if she fails to do that, then I get a full refund. So she files the claim. My insurance paid her. AND NOW I get a bill claiming I still owe her money. When I ran through the lines I see she double pocketed money because no where does it show the day of procedure I had paid $600. If you ever want to get a hold of Iwasaki's billing, call before 11am or you will never get a hold of her. Pl Just a mess from start to end. I do not recommend Update: 5 months later, I got my refund for the adjusted payment I made day of surgery from Iwasaki minus co-pays. I still have pain and need another opinion since the cells weren't all gotten the first go around. read more

Having gone through multiple issues with doctors including a surgical mishap with a surgeon who never listened and was always trying to run me out of the office in 15mins (he scheduled appts in 15min increments), I was pleasantly surprised to meet a doctor who's as attentive and kind as Dr. Iwasaki is.  She is extremely knowledgeable, thorough and it feels like she's someone who truly cares about her patients' well-being.  She's helped my adult acne get cleared up so I've also referred my family who now goes to her for any and all skin issues.  She's a phenomenal medical professional who is highly recommended. read more
