I've been seeing Jackie for about a year. Before that I dealt with mild, persistent acne and allergic reactions. I've tried other dermatologists and I just never had much luck. I decided to try again and saw Jackie. The difference in a couple months was really great! She listened to my concerns about harsh treatments and how I didn't have luck with tretinoin in the past. She noticed that I had multiple issues that needed to be resolved so she put me on a treatment plan. As I progressed I was able to phase out prescriptions once they were solved. My skin concerns of course were not solved overnight but I was happy to have someone who was able to guide me every step of the way. She listened to all my concerns and is an absolute pleasure to see. I've only seen Jackie so I can't speak for the other doctors. All the nurses I've dealt with have been helpful and professional. I will say I've never had the issues others have had in their reviews. Front desk is like any other medical front desk. Kind of cold but they get my appointments scheduled and send documents quickly. The wait times can be long so I like scheduling end of day. Parking is also not easy during the day but clears up later. Overall I highly recommend Jackie but give yourself time for parking/ wait times. read more

Ugh. I saw a lot of patterns in the negative reviews, and unfortunately, I am now suffering similar issues with this office. First, my pharmacist sent me multiple messages that there was an issue with a rx that a PA sent. CVS said they contacted this office multiple times, but were never responded to. This wasn't an absolutely necessary prescription for me, but was definitely a tell of how they operate. Approximately 15 minutes prior to my treatment appointment, I receive a phone call from them that my provider never made it back from her holiday travel. I absolutely understand that many things with travel are out of one's control, but unless her flight was a red eye and she was supposed to get back that morning, there was plenty of notice she had to know she wasn't going to make it back for our appointment. This was a more in depth laser with a week of downtime, that I had scheduled my entire holiday around. Obviously it's disappointing to miss out on something I had planned for months in advance, but the lack of communication or even attempt to make it right just speaks to the other reviews that echo lots of pain with the management of this office. I did a review years ago but I felt a need to post again. I hadn't had micro needling for the longest time. I did try a new med spa close to me in Westlake Village which is 2 hours from Manhattan Dermatology. It was a minor facial treatment. After about a week I thought " why did I do that". How f****** hard is it to call a patient back? Or let alone just f****** call the pharmacy and give a verbal "yes" for a refill.... When I'm PAYING OUT OF POCKET so they don't even have to call an insurance company? All they had to do was call them and confirm, but no, apparently that's too much effort. Then they just kept lying to me, "you gotta take it up with the pharmacy"... that's funny, I've been in contact with them and they laid it out clearly that they need your confirmation! I've been seeing Jackie Tran for about a year - she's suggested treatments that resolved several issues, including ones I've had for decades and had been unsuccessfully treated by other dermatologists. I love the PAs here but their front desk staff are slow and never answer the phone. I leave voicemails and call on different days and times to try to catch them but I don't get any responses back. They seem to only respond to the texts. First of all, this place is absolutely stunning. Not only is the office aesthetically pleasing, but their team is amazing. The front office staff is always friendly. The nurses are always accommodating and caring. And - they all have amazing skin!! Now THAT is the sign of a good dermatology practice, friends!! I see Natalie for all my laser and Botox needs. She is extremely knowledgeable regarding skin care, and gives me exactly what I need to revive and revitalize my dry and acne prone skin! I also see Jacqueline Tran for medical visits. She is great at providing a simplistic yet comprehensive plan that integrates holistic and traditional medicine, such as recommending probiotics in addition to prescription medications. She has done wonders to address my acne and peri oral dermatitis. Now, onto the products! I can't say enough about the daily brightening pads. This is the most unprofessional business in the South Bay. Use a telehealth dermatologist before you come here. I gave them four appointments. Each appointment, I was left waiting over an hour -- each for different reasons. They'd booked me with the wrong doctor, they moved my appointment and didn't send notice, or they just were busy. After each appointment, they either 1) wouldn't fill my prescription, and give me sass when I spent weeks waiting and called to ask. Or 2) fulfilled a random prescription. Please do yourself a favor and don't bother. The doctor is great, but no one is great enough to deal with the awful nurse and customer service experience. read more

My experience with Manhattan Dermatology was unfortunately marred by several recurring issues that significantly detracted from the quality of care. One of the most frustrating aspects was the repeated changes in appointment times, which occurred even when appointments were scheduled months in advance. These last-minute alterations caused inconvenience and disrupted my schedule, making it difficult to plan accordingly As well as consistent changes in pricing. Furthermore, the communication from the clinic to patients was consistently poor. There were instances where important information regarding appointments or procedures was not conveyed effectively or timely, leading to confusion and frustration. Additionally, it was evident that communication between the staff members within the clinic was lacking, as there were instances of conflicting information being provided. On multiple occasions, I encountered discrepancies between what staff would use as explanations for their last minute appointment changes. This lack of transparency and integrity eroded my trust in the clinic. Overall, the combination of frequent changes in appointment times, poor communication both with patients and among staff members, and varying excuses made for a disappointing experience at Manhattan Dermatology. These issues significantly detracted from the overall quality of care and left me feeling dissatisfied with the service provided. I've heard great reviews about this practice. I finally went into the office today to purchase the daily brightening pads. The online price is listed as $142. The front desk clerk checked me out and charged me $180.68. I showed her the online price of $142 and I was told they were "in the process of updating the prices." Before proceeding with my purchase she went to verify with the office manager Kimberly. While I was standing in the office Kimberly updated the online price to $165. Kimberly didn't come out of her office and apologize for the price discrepancy. As a retail pharmacy manager, I understand that mistakes happen, but I always APOLOGIZE for the error and honor the posted price. I was disappointed with the lack of customer care and concern. It was basically told "no this is the new price do you want the item or not?" I was a good customer and have been going here for a few years. The woman who took care of me left to become a full time Mom - at the time I had 2 BBL's left in my package - they replaced her and I had another great BBL - here' my issue - I am moving in 2 weeks and called to see if I could use my last BBL and was told that someone would call me back to see if I could get in before I left - well 2 days later I called again - reexplained everything and was told that I would have to use it when I come back to town - I SAID I WAS MOVING AND WILL NOT BE COMING BACK!!! Also - if I can't get an appointment with anyone there in a 2 week window - then what makes them think they can accommodate me in a short visit. I also asked if my sister - who is also a patient there - could use my package - yes I was told she would ask and call me back - well guess what I am still waiting. What poor customer service. I want to start off by saying I have been a patient of Dr Magoverns for over 10 years. Like the other reviews, the front office staff is rude and I have seen patients come in angry letting them know they are late due to the horrible parking situation. Most recently, my skin was damaged here during a laser procedure. I contribute it to the provider being rushed and not paying attention during the procedure (she was talking about her divorce and the bachelor). A week after the laser, I contacted the office and let the know that my skin was damaged and I now have hyperpigmentation, broken blood vessels and increased redness, which is the opposite of what this laser should do. I sent photos and they told me to come back so they could treat me further. I declined as I no longer trusted them and did not want more damage done to my skin. This is a dermatologist's office and they worsened my skin condition and they do not care. The reason I know this is based off of my communication with their "operation manager/ social media & marketing" employee. My communication with her has been concerning since she has emailed me with wink face emojis after knowing what occurred. This is who is in charge of interacting with their patients. read more

I've been to this place several time and very inconsistent with how they care for their patients. Last time I was there the doctor barely even talked for more than 5 mins without reviewing my son. Prior to that we've had issues where they didn't send the culture testing out and asked us to come back for test again. Lastly they send the wrong dosages to the pharmacy for my son and thank god the pharmacist caught it otherwise would have been another issue. I left a review on Instagram and it was deleted. Attached screen shot. In response: I have no issue paying for this service and zero issue with my insurance provider. The great thing is that I can dispute this through them. When I called them they mentioned you billed them incorrectly as well. Insurance fraud is a crime. This place is a factory/mill. If I could give it a negative star I would. The worst experience ever. I came in to have a skin tag removed. They removed a mole not my skin tag. I now have a scar and it was traumatizing to have a mole removed when I hadn't planned on it. The time and money this has cost is unfortunate. I had to take another day off and see another dr. Their office manager had told me that they would waive this fee. I had bills coming in from their office and other labs. This was the least they could do. However, I am still being sent bills. No one has return my call or offered to help. I would 100% stay away. There are plenty of professional, experienced and ethical practices out there. I read through these reviews. I thought that the office staff was hiding what had happened. But Dr. McGovern uses the same response which is a total excuse. "Often times insurance can be tricky. As a specialist some services that are rendered may not be covered based on your type of insurance plan and allowances. We always submit medical visits through insurance but will not have a final decision until your insurance company processes your visit. At times if insurance denies certain things that have been addressed in your visit the non covered expense becomes a part of patient responsibility. We know that this can be frustrating as medical plans vary and when seeing certain specialist there may be services that are not approved by your insurance carrier. Please let us know if you have any additional question or would like an itemized list of charges accompanied with your EOB." Seriously? As a business owner you have the ability to waive WHATEVER WHENEVER you want. This has zero to do with insurance. read more

I have been a patient of Manhattan dermatology for many years. I experience adult acne, which can be stubborn and nodular. Not once have I ever seen a Board Certified Dermatologist at this practice. When I do need to come in, I am told I need to see Lauren Boos, a Physicians Assistant. My last visit was for acne. First thing I'm asked in the examining room is, "Are you picking." "Do you want to go back on Accutane?" "I would if I were you". Words cannot express how I felt when I left. I was prescribed a topical, (Amzeeq) which did absolutely nothing. I am a woman in my mid 50's and deserve to see the doctor when I make an appointment. I have pretty much given up at this practice. They have not helped me at all. read more

Very rude receptionist and was surprised about the request for us to wait outside since we did not bring masks. The office also does not offer masks to wear as well. My situation was the the office asked me to fill out the doctors forms on their iPad but its somewhat hard to do while standing up outside. At first we asked if we can sit by the door and I had thought the reception team said yes and then minutes later asked is to go outside?! My father is a doctor/surgeon and no way in his 50 years of practice would he hire a receptionist with such rude manners!! I will take my business elsewhere where patients feel welcome. read more

I was one of Dr. Magovern's first patients when she started her practice but unfortunately I was told I could no longer see her because it had been a couple years and I am now considered a "new patient" even though I was still going there for IPLs. This last IPLs in December 2023 was unacceptable. Natalie singed my right eyebrow and I was left with singed hairs and an empty patch. When I left a comment/photos on their website, Natalie called me back and with a non chalant tone said "it'll grow back" in the usual time it takes for your eyebrows to grow... And that this can happen--well it never did before when Jackie did the IPL... I asked for a discount, she checked w/the manager--the answer was no. I left a message for Dr. Magovern, no response. 1/17/24: A rebuttal to the reply from Dr. Magovern's office. If you had called, emailed or left a message as you say you did I wouldn't have had to resort to posting this on Yelp. This office doesn't care about their patients; just about making money. read more

The PA Tran is awesome and made a great diagnosis and solved a long established issue with my skin.

Do not let them do tightening laser treatment under your eyes. They will leave circles, which were not there in the first place and when confronted by this, they will say that they were already there. There is no accountability. They will also without your permission when you do complain, place another person in the room and record you. You may say that you do not approve, but they will suddenly come in recording you, and with another witness armed with photos which have poor lighting, and which more likely support their case. In order to grow and not perform similar mistakes with other patients, they need to at least acknowledge mistakes committed. Perhaps their intention was not to use a laser at depths which would cause fat atrophy, but if it happens, then, they need to reassess their technique and try to help the patient to at least go back to a state prior to being treated by them. The fact that they are unwilling to do this speaks to an inflexible and environment, which does not place the patient first and is not good for progress within their field. read more

Jackie was wonderful and did a great job explaining what she was doing during my visit and follow up appointment. I was given multiple options in regards to recommended biopsies and did not feel pressured one way or another. Not all dermatologist's offices are like this. Dr. Phillips (and her assistant Arianna) provide poor patient care and overcharged. When I made an appointment, I asked about pricing for treatment and was told it would be covered by insurance. After I was in the room, I was told that insurance never covers the treatment and was given a range of pricing depending on the number of spots. I approved paying for up to 10 spots. They literally count each one even though it takes a second with the machine. When I went to the front, they tried to charge more than I authorized. Arianna lied and said I authorized paying for removing up to 15 spots. I let them know that Arianna was incorrect. They left me standing at the front for a long time while they tried to resolve things, first escalating it through an office manager who was there and then trying to call someone who was not at the office. After waiting long enough, I let them know they could call me and we would settle the bill. In addition, Doctor Phillips had another patient double booked at the same time as me. The staff said the other patient had cancelled her appointment but the other patient said she did not. Doctor Phillips spent maybe 5 minutes in the room and I think she was rushing to fit in the other patient. I would like to warn others that there are many dermatologist offices in town and I do not recommend this one due to their dishonesty. **edited to add: The office's response shows what should happen, but that is not what occurred. They should take responsibility when they make a mistake and fix it but I can see from their responses to all poor reviews that they never do. read more

If I could give 10 stars for Doctor Jacquelyn Tran, I would! I took my elderly aunt to see her with concerns of some blemishes she had on her skin.. Doctor Tran immediately recognized that my aunt needed not only a medical confirmation but an emotional confirmation as well. She immediately put my aunt at ease, and really listened to her. She treated the entire person not just the medical condition. Her assistant was also fantastic!I would highly recommend her to anyone. read more

The issue with this place is it's billing - I had a couple of odd lesions removed a few months ago, and billing had a heck of a time understanding how to bill my insurance. I had to get them on the phone with my insurance company directly before they understood I was covered - it was a little bizarre. It ended up that most of what I needed done wasn't covered - so I paid 210 at the door out of pocket to do it. This was fine. However, since then, I'm been hit with bills from Manhattan Dermatology for 118 on *top* of that without any explanation at all - just these bills of 'give us more money or else'. Of course calling in only gets you to automated voice mail, as if I'm supposed to spend lots of time figuring out their screw up. It's like - no. I paid for the service when I was there, you don't get to increase the price later on and then not even tell me why you're doing it or justifying it in any way. The service itself was fine - I liked the technician - but the sloppy and grabby way this company handles billing means it is one to be avoided. Edit: To address Ashley's response below - I reject that it was the case that 'insurance denied' anything. As stated in the review, the individual's handling billing had a very hard time understanding my insurance and 'could not find it'. I had to get my insurance rep on the phone and then they and the individual figured out what your person was doing wrong - it's like they couldn't get a grip on the insurance company's name and were typo'ing it over and over and had to have it slowly spelled for them. I strongly suspect the same rep couldn't figure out my insurance a second time after the service was done, and so they likely billed it as if I didn't have insurance at all, and are now trying to strong arm the extra out of me as if I had no insurance. I deeply resent this as it all stems from your billing rep's inability to understand how to make an insurance claim work. read more

I held back on leaving a negative review but after having another unprofessional experience I've changed my mind. My initial appointment/consult was fine, they said that I had to use the Beverly Hills pharmacy that they go through which I had no problem with. The BH Pharmacy had issues verifying my insurance so that's when all the back and forth calls started. I called the derm office to ask if they had any problems verifying my insurance and they didn't. I was told I needed to get my prescriptions through a "specialty pharmacy" because they had to make the lotion, cream and shampoo. Long story short I had to contact the BH pharmacy back and forth then request that my prescriptions be sent over to a second pharmacy only to be again transferred to a third pharmacy and guess what pharmacy that was: CVS. I had to jump through hurdles for days just to get my prescriptions only to find out I could've gone through CVS all along! What made this experience so frustrating was the terrible customer service from this office. There are so many receptionists that no one knows who spoke with who and what is going on in the office, there is no accountability. My messages were not being relayed and no one was getting back to me. To top it off they wouldn't answer my calls but right when I used another phone number, they picked up right away. I HAD to communicate with you multiple times because you weren't getting the job done and I wasn't getting my prescriptions. I won't say all of you but most of you were rude, I gave you the benefit of the doubt that sure you guys were busy or "understaffed" or tired from hearing from me but I called back a couple weeks later to change a prescription. (This was last week) Not sure who I spoke with because I wasn't writing down names but I should have to hold them accountable, but let's just say I never heard back and had to call again and that's when I found out YET AGAIN my message was never relayed to the doctor! I called again this morning and was told the doctor hadn't received or gotten back to my message.. seriously? Then I get a call from a Marissa with an ugly attitude telling me again that my prescription needs to go through the BH pharmacy.. does this office not communicate? Is it not in my file to go through CVS now? She said she couldn't because it was a brand name prescription and needed the doctors approval to change a generic one which is fine whatever but why do you guys push to go through that pharmacy? Your office needs a manager or better one if you already have one. Coming from someone with with years of experience in customer service and who used to be a receptionist: do better. read more
