Great experience. From the front office staff setting up my appointment and verifying my insurance, to Liberty who made me feel right at home, to Dr. Wickwire who walked me through the cyst draining/removal procedure he performed, everyone was amazing. After a decade of coming to Dr. Wickwire, I've discovered, to my relief, that IT WASN'T JUST ME! I had blamed myself EVERY time that it was MY personality, MY lack of rapport. After my last (and now, final) visit to Beach Cities and having an almost identical experience, I decided to check Yelp reviews. OMG! Other people had remarkably similar Wickwire experiences! Here's what to expect: Show up and check-in. Receptionists are not particularly pleasant. After being shown into an exam room, expect to wait. And wait. And wait. As mentioned in other reviews, no one comes in to give status updates, apologize for delays, or check on your well-being. Seriously, 20-30 minute waits for appointments. Every. Single. Time. Though this does gives you the opportunity to study his prominently displayed diplomas and certificates in great detail. But his credentials aren't in question here. You'll likely overhear a conversation in the next room through the thin walls. That's the good doctor and another patient, involved in an interminably long dialogue. Two visits back, he and a female patient discussed vacation destinations for 15 freaking minutes! (Things I learned: Wickwire has a vacation home, has made several Europe trips, and was considering TWO vacations that year). When your door finally opens, a bow-tied, short-haired, checkered pants-wearing man with round glasses, directly from the 1980s, walks into the room. Yes, Its the man himself. Dr. William J. Wickwire. He can make the fastest diagnosis in the West. He can write an accurate prescription with alarming speed. But ...sensitivity, bedside manner, rapport? Not his strong points. in fact, I generally get the feeling that he resents me even being there. If he wants to ramble on about his college days, or skiing accident for 15 minutes, I patiently listen. If I try to share a response, i'm abruptly cut-off. Rule #1: Wickwire sets the pace at examinations. When it's over: Don't expect a handshake, well wishes, or a pat on the back. In my case he just stands up to let me know the exam is over, and leaves. Last time not even a goodbye. He's just not that kind of guy. So, I'm giving up and parting ways. I've given him a fair chance, been friendly as I could. I've considered grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him. "Hey Wick-meister! Lighten up!" But as I said, he's not that kind of guy. read more

My review is specific to the billing Office in Redondo Beach for Beach Cities Dermatology. I used my insurance that was run to cover my visits. Paid my co payments and carried on with life. Few months later, I receive a bill for another partial payments and two banks fee for returned checks( not mine) of $15.00 each. When I called, the lady over the phone seemed very curt and aggressive. Saying, well your insurance checks were returned therefore, you take the payment. She was so argumentative to the point that I just took the payment on and called it night. Doctor Sorensen was phenomenal but this billing department is sub part with no customer service whatsoever. read more

The best of the best. I can't say enough about Dr. Ammar and the staff. I HAD a large lipoma on my shoulder blade for years. I had consulted with a few local dermatologists, but did not feel comfortable with their solutions. I met with Dr. Ammar and knew I was in the right place. He was timely and explained the procedure in a confident and compassionate manner. He removed the lipoma (pain free) and it is now gone. His assistant Crystal was also amazing. They also have top of the line lasers and medical equipment. It's obvious that they stay current with all treatments and procedures. I have to admit, I decided to get Botox too! The 11 in between my eyebrows is gone! I also don't look like the joker, but I have been told by friends that I look rested. ;). Very professional, great doctors and staff. I had the best experience at Beach Cities Dermatology. Fariba Seraj was so professional and tailored my laser appointment to my skin type. As a biracial woman it is really hard to find the right and safe laser. Fariba made sure it was safe, and it was so effective. She also took COVID-19 very seriously and made sure that proper protocols were carried out before and after so that I felt very safe in her care. If you are having skin issues on your face I also highly recommend her. Fariba has been doing this for decades and you can tell by the way she examines your skin and determines the diagnosis right away. I have seen many dermatologists for my ongoing eczema, and hands down Beach Cities Dermatology has been the most responsive, personal, and professional group I've experienced. I started coming to the office after being recommended to photo light therapy during my pregnancy. Marlene was always so helpful and compassionate about my progress--it made each visit truly worthwhile. As my pregnancy progressed, so did my skin flareups. The office staff made sure to work around my schedule in fitting me in so that my frustration with my skin did not go unnoticed. Victoria, Jessica, and Alicia are always so friendly in remembering my name and take the time to ask how I am doing (trust me this goes a long way!) I have seen Dr. Wickwire, Fariba, and Dr. Ammar on separate occasions and it is very clear that they care about the well being of my baby and me. Fariba took extra time to call me weekly to give me lab results and check to see how I was doing...it was so appreciated. Don't you care? Apparently Beach Cities Dermatology fails this essential prerequisite. Reaching out for help to Beach Cities Dermatology, I was examined, and given a prescription designed to help with a problem I was experiencing. Having a low tolerance for ambiguity, I read the label on the prescription quite carefully. The instructions were to use for "6 nights" and "repeat monthly for 3- 4 months." The label further read "No Refills Remain." If English is your mother tongue, does this not strike any literate person as a contradiction in terms? Apparently, not at Beach Cities Dermatology. Despite numerous calls to Beach Cities Dermatology from both my pharmacist and me, the response for a request for a refill was denied. Ultimately, the result is a degeneration of the problem for which I originally came in seeking help. Reaching out to the office I encountered the "office manager". Not only was she of no help whatsoever, it became apparent she was unable to comprehend how offensive she was. Thus I have reached out to another dermatology office. It will take some time before they can see me, however, at the very least I will be attended to by some medical professionals who may care for their patients. read more

I love the staff and Dr Wickwire! My insurance is not accepted here, but I have decided to pay out of pocket to come here for several skin related issues. I had a dermatologist who was covered in my insurance network, but I just had no confidence in him. Hopefully you are coming to see Dr. Wickwire for you thick skin- you might need it! The office staff is very friendly and helpful. They explained payment very throughly- no medical payment language you can sometimes get. Thank god! The office makes me want cool sculpting- ads everywhere. I saw Dr. Wickwire, whose appearance was inviting- a bow tie with skinny jeans. Is it possible our humor didn't coincide? Are doctors sometimes just too curt for me? Are my questions probably elementary for a medical professional? Yes, yes, and yes, however, when we are discussing injecting antibiotics below my skin and a new prescription regime... I plan to learn my new routine better than my ABC's. Although I left Dr. Wickwire very informed- he knew his stuff and explained it well, it was clear that he became irritated by my questioning. I am new to Redondo Beach and google searched for a dermatologist in the area, and decided to give Dr. Wickwire a shot. I needed one specific spot looked at, along with a general skin check. He was extremely thorough, professional, funny and kind (cannot imagine him being pretentious as was mentioned in another post). He took time to answer any questions, and when I realized I had forgotten to ask him about another issue he came back and gave me more time. While their services are good, their front office is unacceptably rude. Generally rude customer service over the phone and in person. Soulless about payments. I missed one appointment due to a technical difficulty with my calendar and also because I had a sick aunt I needed to visit. They were upset with me for not being sincere enough with my apology. And they had the audacity to ask me to pay a $36 cancellation charge. I refused to pay the charge and I "fired" beach cities. Just had my first appointment at coast dermatology in Torrance and they were phenomenal and incredibly friendly. Just about any office is way better than this one. read more

Beach Cities Dermatology is a place where you feel welcome the first minute you walk in. The front office staff is on top of their game while they handle endless phone calls, and patients while making sure the doctors in the office are taken care of to the tee. I had an appointment with Dr. Fariba who was so kind and professional. It is never fun to go and have your skin checked out for skin damage or cancerous moles. She made me feel very comfortable, answered all of my questions with confidence and kindness, and was funny. Not all doctors are funny. Bedside manner is so key, especially during these times when people do not even look at one another, or for that matter, know how to carry on a conversation. The front office staff individuals I had the chance to meet were Shonda, Elisha, and Tori. Shonda went the extra mile by finding make-up that would cover an age spot. My daughter broke out in a persistent case of hives and the office was able to squeeze her in the same day. The check in staff was busy and professional. We were moved into a room pretty quickly. The nurse that did our intake was incredibly warm and connected with my daughter. Dr Fariba came in and also put my daughter at ease. Although we were never able to pinpoint the cause of the hives, i felt we were well taken care of. I would not hesitate coming back here. Well in the last couple years the pleasant experience I had grown accustomed to had long deterriorated. I have had chronic eczema much of my life and have been taking, for periods off and on as necessary, certain topical creams and ointments. Lately BC Derm has been all about shuffling me back into the office all the time! What I was once perscribed several refills of to use over the course of a year has become no refills. When I called to request refills they used to give me the same story about I had to be seen once a year (that's fine) but now they've even started saying within 6 months. Last time I was forced to make an appointment with the doctor and I didn't even get to see the doctor! They set me up with the nurse instead after I changed my schedule around and everything to find an appointment. The last straw happened recently when days before I left town for a trip I called BCD to see if they could send have the doc approve a refill. They told me to call my pharmacy, which requested the refills to have BCD not respond to them. When I called BCD again, they said the nurse was not in and that she'd get around to the request the next day. Long story short, the shuffle between BCD and my pharmacy went on for days where BCD ended up telling me that I had to be seen to get the refill. It was now much too late for me to do anything about it before my trip. While I thought Dr. Ammar did a fine job in the past years of helping me deal with my eczema, I'm done with the Beach Cities racket. I don't have time for BCD to require me to run down to the Southbay all the time only to see the nurse and hear the same stuff I've been hearing for the last 10 years. This place might be for you though if you live closer and have nothing better to do than to run to and call the dermatologist's office all the time. Just to clarify, I have nothing personal against the nurse practicioner there. I think she's a fine professional. My grief comes from the irony of them requiring me to come "see the doctor" only to not see the doctor but rather the nurse practicioner. I get it. Office visits pay the bills for them but it's gotten to the point where I just have to go back too frequently for treatment from an unchanged chronic condition. read more

The WORST. The most unprofessional place with ridiculous women who just give you the run around. Marisol is a spin master who does not call back, tho this is what I was told as I wait for an entire week for them to call back! THEN....MARISOL she tells ME to talk to people who are not in and sends you to voice mail. IF THAT IS NOT BAD ENOUGH: Victoria has the nerve to lie to me and say that she told me I NEED ANOTHER appointment, that I have to pay again for, lying. If I needed another appointment, WHY WAS I FORCED TO WAIT A WEEK waiting for a call back, and WHY WAS no appointment made when I was there. Shame on Victoria for lying. I was told they would call back. No one said I need ANOTHER APPOINTMENT, I WROTE DOWN EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TOLD. Waited a week and no call back. They said they would call me after getting the elusive codes for a price for this surgery. I WAS EXAMINED ALREADY and now they want me to come back in...pay again and get examined again. WHAT A MESS OF GARBAGE SCAM. What a bunch of unprofessional scammers and liars. Dr. wickwire: shame on your unprofessional staff that need to learn to run your office in your best interest. About 6 months ago, I went to Dr Lawrence Moy, a highly respected dermatologist. The purpose was to determine if the moles on my back were potentially cancerous. At the office visit, he said, unequivocally, they were not and there was no danger of cancer. I decided to have the moles removed at a more economically doctor...he is great but a bit pricey...searched the internet and came up with Beach Cities Dermatology in Redondo Beach. I called, made an appointment to have the moles on my back removed...upon arrival, I was asked why I was there; I said and signed in with "to have moles removed". I was led to an exam room where Fariba Seraj, P.A./R.N.P. began to explain about cancer and moles. I said, I am well aware of this as I have already seen a dermatological doctor whom has concluded there is no risk of cancer from these moles. I am here to have them removed. I was led into another room, asked to lie on my stomach with my shirt removed. At that time they took specimen moles for biopsy. I said, I did not ask for that; I am here to have moles removed from my back. Fariba said, that is not covered by insurance. I replied, 'I don't care, I will pay for it." She said we are out of time. You must make another appointment to return another time. I was shocked as I was only there for about 12 minutes (not counting the 30 minutes spent waiting in reception). In conclusion, my continued request for my requested service was ignored. A service that I did not request was performed and Beach Cities Dermatology charged over $$500 for a 15-minute visit where I never even saw a doctor. It appears to me that Beach Cities Dermatology (a) pre-screens a new patient to determine what services are covered thru their insurance, (2) then, Beach Cities Dermatology perform that service without patient consent c) Beach Cities Dermatology charge the insurance company an exorbitant amount of money for a routine service. read more

This is my wife's review: I went to see Dr. William Wickwire for my skin issues. First of all I went to this place because of their yelp reviews and was told to see a dermatologist by my primary physician. Right off the bat I observed Dr. Dickwire to come off as uninterested in my issues. I felt he looked at me with disgust with my skin that had lots of scars. He ended up giving me a prescription for what he thought the diagnosis was and said that if it didn't work that I should see my physician. My physician told me to go to you! What's the point of specializing in medicine if you're just going to hand it off to another doctor? I left shot down and alone. He didn't even shake my hand. Medical school shouldn't have to teach bedside manners, but who knows, it's probably how he was brought up. read more

Wow! I am beyond impressed with Dr. Wickwire and his team. I am a patient of Dr. Wickwire. A dermatological issue arose when I was on a cruise ship in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I sent his office a photo of the problem. The response was fast. Dr. Wickwire combined his knowledge of my history, including allergic reactions, and what he saw in the photo to give me excellent direction and a solution halfway around the world. The first thing people see is your face, so it's important for me to have clear skin. I see Dr. Wickwire or NP Fariba once or twice a year and see Jenni the esthetician monthly. Jenni is nothing short of amazing. She's friendly and personable and blows any spa style facial you've ever had away. My face always feels rejuvenated and improves. I was suffering from cystic acne and we worked out a plan to reduce the inflammation, bacteria and hyper-pigmentation. With her TLC we've got my skin back to normal and vibrant! Out of the countless people I have talked to who visit this office frequently, I've never heard anything but a positive remark. I have seen Fariba Seraj multiple times for various skin conditions, primarily acne, rashes, and laser hair removal. She has always been nothing but highly professional, informative, kind, and effective. Unlike other physicians, she always takes the time to tell me about all my options and to explain and educate me. I've visited the office in Redondo Beach and Culver City, and both are clean and pleasant to visit. The staff are very friendly and professional as well. I've recommended several of my friends to this office and to Fariba specifically, and all of them have been nothing but completely satisfied, and she is now their regular clinican as well. Fariba has helped me clear up my acne and has made it so that I rarely have to shave any more, even though my skin type makes laser difficult. However, when I arrived at beach cities I had a completely different experience... For lack of better words... It was phenomenal. Best service. Skin care geniuses. Special kudos to Fariba Seraj. I understand the doctors are busy... but what about the staff that are supposed to support? Why would I need to call reception to find out what has gone wrong? Dr. Ammar at Beach City Dermatology is an incredible doctor. I am a fair skinned person with a lot of cancerous growths. Dr. Ammar sat down with me for a full twenty minutes and explained the risks and benefits of the different approaches to removal of these cancers in a way I could continue to work out in the pool.
