Back in March, I brought my 3 month old baby to see Dr. Blumenstrauch because I was concerned about some discoloration on her belly. He was booked for months but thankfully there was a cancellation and he fit us in just a few days after I called to make the appointment. Dr. Blumenstrauch was so kind and patient. I used to really like this doctor, but he sold his practice and there's no adult supervision of the front office. There are new forms to sign, including one that says that the patient acknowledges that the privacy policy is posted - except that the privacy policy isn't posted. We all give away too much of our private information and we all sign away too many of our rights these days. This office wants us all to be a sheep and sign our names to a lie! And if you complain, they claim that no one else cares about what they sign - which a) I know is not true and b) is meant to make me feel like there's something wrong with me, and I should just jump off a cliff with the rest of the lemmings. Because I complained, an office visit which should have lasted 30 minutes, took 2 1/2 hours. I repeatedly asked to see the office manager and I repeatedly was told, "she'll be with you in a minute," - which was a lie - she never appeared. They wouldn't take a medical history - despite a change in family history of skin cancer. They wouldn't take an updated medication list despite promising to take it. I'm going to need extra fingers to count all of the lies. I pointed out to the doctor that there's something wrong if a patient is asking to see the office manager for 90 minutes and the office manager is nowhere to be found. He defended the office manager. I later learned that his office manager is his wife, which explains why it fell on deaf ears. In addition to needing management oversight, customer service training, and escalation processes allowing a patient to speak to a manager when there's a problem with the staff, the entire staff and the doctor need training in infection prevention. No one washes their hands after touching the door knob. There's no soap in the dispenser in case the patient wants to wash hands. The medical assistant uses the trash can as a desk for the forms - the same forms which the doctor will hold before examining a naked patient's skin. Yuck. read more

I went and got a skin check, had my scalp looked at, and a portion of my foot looked at. When I was there I had Roy tell me that he can freeze off a wart I had on my foot and told him not to worry about It because I would've rather used the over the counter freeze to get it taken care of so it wouldn't be as expensive. He told me not to worry about it and he can take care of it. After getting a bill in the mail I called in. There was no description what the bill was for and simply was for the disclosed amount. I requested to have an itemized bill either emailed or mailed to me and I would be happy to get the balance resolved. About a month later I called in and requested the same of receiving an itemized bill. After 2 more months go by I receive a bill threatening me to go to collections. I called in and spoke with an employee by the name of Molly. When I told her the history of it and not wanting to pay until I have a line by line description of what each service cost. Her response "what does it matter. You know what you got done and it needs to be paid." I cancelled my next appointment I had in April from the lack of common sense from their AR department and the way Molly spoke to me and won't be going back. read more

I saw Dr. Blumenstrauch (Dr. B) for a few years but he is not in my insurance plan anymore so no longer. The last time I was at the office they also had a new policy that the you have to pay any fees or co-pays in the waiting area Before the Doctor will see you. If you need to have a biopsy or the more invasive MOHS surgery to remove a malignancy, I believe that he has the facility to do that in his office suite. During his Skin Cancer checks if you ask him about any growths that you are concerned about, he will give you an immediate explanation about them. If he needs to freeze one with his can, that will almost double your bill. At my last appointment, the Dr. billed the exam to Anthem BC at $126.00 and Anthem's contracted rate was $97.25. So I had to pay $97.25--reasonable. But as the Dr. was leaving the room, I pointed out something on my skin and he lifted the can and said it's probably nothing, but let's freeze it to be sure. It only took less than 5 seconds. The Dr. billed Anthem $100 for the quick freeze, and Anthem's contracted rate for that was $72.32. So I had to pay $72.32 for the 5 second freeze. Parking is simple for his office. Giant parking lot right next to the entrance to the building. Take a ticket when you arrive and you get 1 free hour of parking with a validation in his office. If you go into the 2nd hour, it's just 1 dollar per hour. Just a note on early morning appointments. Unless things have changed, this office charges an extra fee for appointments between 7 and 8 am. A couple of years ago I scheduled an early morning appointment and was not made aware of this fee. It was billed to the insurance company who re-coded it and rejected it as "personal services." Be careful scheduling early morning appointments before 8--ask if there is an extra fee and if they say no, record the name. I once wrote to his office regarding a billing inquiry and they did not respond to my letter. I just let it go since I was busy at work and I would not be able to see him any longer anyway since he is not in my plan. In summing up: With Dr. B, like many doctors today, you have to get him to focus on your problem and be ready to give him a speedy synopsis--write it down if you can't remember. He is super busy running from room to room and getting his attention during the appointments could be challenging. But once you do, he knows what to do. read more

I don't know where to begin. The doctor is great it's the office staff. They mix everything up. They really want money fast. I received a bill after insurance was paid and they wanted the full amount in 2 weeks. I thought usually it's a month. I felt pressured. They also can't keep track of people's addresses or co pays. I always pay our co pays at the office visit. There was a mix up. I had a copy at home and had to drive over there and show them I did pay. Now the latest I owe from our last visit. I double checked with our insurance company and I owed so I sent the payment. Now I get a call asking for our address. I thought why? We have been there many times. You should have memorized it by now. I just wanted to scream out of frustration. Is it too much to get people to take care of these things or do we patients have to watch their every move? I am writing this review after giving this practice a second chance. I wish I hadn't. Dr. Blumenstrauch is nice enough and seems very knowledgeable but the few minutes of his seemingly precious time happen after having to deal with his less than friendly staff and an absurdly long wait. It seems as soon as he walks in he has one foot out the door. After going to him a few times before I decided that my time was more valuable and I didn't think he was so fantastic that I would put up with the long waits and rude or indifferent staff. But having gone to another dermatoligist that was even worse, Dr. Goodlerner, I decided to give Dr. Blumenstrauch another chance. Same deal. Rude, indifferent staff, long waiting room wait and longer wait in the exam room so he could sweep in, spend as little time as he could with me and he was gone. This time he prescribed a cream that he said would be expensive and might not be covered by my insurance. I asked the medica assistant for the presciption so I could shop it around. She completely ignored me and kept asking which pharmacy to call. It was as if I was having a conversation with someone who was pretending I wasn't there. So I offhandedly said send it to Costco because sometimes their prices are cheaper. Of course it wasn't. Fortunately it is covered but unfortunately it would still cost $140. I have called his office twice asking for another option and no one has called back. So I have a rash on my face that apparently only 1 stupidly expensive cream will only fix because after 2 calls no one has the decency to call me back. So now it's time to find a dermatologist who will actually have a staff that isn't rude or indifferent, will make time to see me, listen to me and not prescribe a medication that he's probably getting a kickback for. read more

Dr. B's office is a well tuned machine, and I rarely have to wait for my appointments. The staff has always been friendly and has been able to get me in last minute on a couple of instances. Both of my parents have been coming to his offices for a few years, so when it came to have a Dr. take a look at some suspicious moles, I went to Dr. B & kept going here to resolve stubborn acne issues.
