I decided to look up who owned this restaurant and I was actually surprised. It was Tartine in the West Village. I lived near by Tartine for 10 years and I remember they only accepted cash all these years. A little strange right. Maybe the behavior trickles down all the way from the top. We went to Juliette for brunch with a couple friends and it was really good. The first thing you notice is how spacious the restaurant is. As a result, we didn't have to wait to be seated for a noon brunch, which all you brunchers know is a rare treat for NYC brunch. And there is a really pretty garden-type area where we sat. I tried on of their specials, which was braised oxtail on a bed of polenta. The other orders were a crispy fish sandwich, omelette du jour, and some creamy lentil dish with sausage and poached eggs inside. The braised oxtail was super tasty and moist, and the fish sandwich tasted really fresh and light even though it was fried. I didn't try the omelette or lentil dishes, but they looked really good and my friends enjoyed it. My only complaints are that the service is quite slow. It probably took 30+ minutes for someone to take our order after being seated. And all the portions were large, except for my oxtail dish. I was hungry shortly after eating and was jealous I didn't order something larger. The hubby and I went here for my birthday, as I'd been craving steak-frites, a glass of bubbly and something chocolate for my special day. Upon arrival, the restaurant wasn't very busy, so we had our choice of where to sit. We chose a table up on the outdoor patio bar. The service was outstanding- as my husband said, the server made him feel very important. She was attentive but not cloying. And my favorite, she was sincere when speaking with us, which is always refreshing. The starter was so-so, the only negative thing I have to say about our experience. It was an heirloom tomato-peach-burrata salad. The tomatoes were a bit tasteless, sadly, and the peaches were hard as a rock. But the burrata was creamy and the dressing spot on, so that almost saved that dish. Everything else was perfect: the steak-frites we each ordered was delicious, topped with a perfect peppercorn sauce and served with frites salted just so, the champagne was cold and crisp, and most importantly, the flourless chocolate lava cake was gooey, rich, and perfectly offset by the creamy hazelnut ice cream that came with it. Absolutely loved this dish!!!! The tuna tartare was sour - I didn't like the green sauce not sure what it was but it was still bearable to eat everything. Maybe it's just my taste but it wasn't for me. This was just ok and I would rate it a 2.7/5. We came here for brunch around 1pm and this place was packed. To no surprise this restaurant was buzzing with people and it felt very lively, especially with potted plants hung everywhere in the restaurant. Immediately, I knew I was going to like this place. The only question next was if their food and service would amount to the same level of impressiveness as their decor. Once we reach the host, I told her I made reservation but unfortunately my name was no where to be found. This took me by surprised, considering that I made my reservation over the phone. One thing I did noticed was that the server were friendly but because they were short staff, everyone was rushing. Their attention to details was lacking and it took me three times to finally flag someone to get me a coffee refill. For me the short staff was a turn off and therefore, they lost that extra star. As for food, I order their traditional eggs, sausage, home fries and toast. It was definitely tasty and but not amazing, just average restaurant food. One of the servers over at my favorite French restaurant- Bar Tabac, mentioned Juliette about two years ago. Since then, it got my attention for its French menu- and Bookmarked it. As an app my friend got the escargot which he really enjoyed and I got the garlic shrimp - amazing! They even give you crusty bread to soak up all that delicious garlic butter sauce that the shrimp is sitting in. For the mains I got a salad with chicken since I'm watching my weight lately: it was fresh and made with a zesty vinaigrette. My friend got the short ribs which I had to taste and it was incredible. Rarely do we leave feeling equally fulfilled. Well, my friends, luckily you've came by chance or likely by purpose, but regardless, I have finally found our communal sanctuary of food and occasion. It was a spur of the moment decision - door dash or the real McCoy, so, after a brief, but heavy thought, we will brave the Sunday scaries with non-other than a hair of the dog Sunday brunch adventure. The space is special. Ample square footage divided by invisible walls and vertical open spaces, inviting light shining blissfully on the enclosed side patio. This alone would be enough for the socialites to give the place five stars to their friends. However, what really earns any eatery - or should at least - five stars, is what is served. A frequenter of the croque monsieur, I've found myself - mouth dry from a kitchen broiler - mostly satisfied, rarely floored. Juliette's offers anything one could want in such a dish - the ample layers of ham were impeccably juicy and center of the 'sandwich' - if you could call it such - delightfully rich which contrasted perfectly to it's crispy edges. Decedent. Rich. Flavorful. Full. Just as the French intended it. The fries were a nice touch, but would would likely recommend the salad as the dish is plentiful and rich. I'm telling you, it's not your typical one slice of ham slapped on a light cheese toast! The famers breakfast was good, short, sweet, and to the point. All five food groups carefully respected. And, as it is brunch, cocktails were mandatory. The Fresh Start was exactly as one would expect infusing such pretentious ingredients into a beverage for the sole purpose of mild intoxication. The bloody marry was what one would expect - delightfully fresh and hearty yet without the unneeded 7 strips of bacon and Buffalo chicken slider. Our waitress was honest, friendly, and attentive. We entered sadly having no Eastern European friends and left with now having one. Juliette, so glad you were recommended, so glad you came through at the price point that drove me to distain the typical underwhelming West Village brunch.
