Probably one of the best meals I have had at a restaurant in years. The food and service was wonderful. The deserts are all homemade and wonderful. My son and I had the filet, my wife had the lasagna and my youngest son has the spaghetti. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Julio's is my mother's absolute favorite restaurant in Harrison County, WV. When I say this, my comment should not be taken lightly as my mother may be the best cook in the county-- the variable Paula Dean of West Virginia if you will. Julio's boasts traditional Italian dishes and Surf and Turf with the freshest and most original ingredients to be had in the area. Their Pasta Fajioli comes in FOUR different flavors and they will actually sell it you by the gallon! The atmosphere adds to their extraordinary cuisine. Place has changed since last time we were there. A little run down. Booth seat full of duct tape and seat felt like I was sitting on a board. Luncheon menu was limited. Food decent and a little pricey. They lost their liquor license so no wine with dinner. No table cloths any more. Bathrooms dingy and run down. Not the same from their past. read more

We have heard how great this place is, but the truth is, we'll likely never return. Service was very slow and we had to ask to have our drinks refilled after sitting empty. The atmosphere was weird. Table layout was awkward and the chairs were uncomfortable. We waited almost 15 to get menus and almost 30 to get bread. Whole evening was nearly 2 hours--and we didn't dare order appetizers based on how slow everything was. When we finally got our food, it was good. Not great but good. My potatoes were cold and the servings were small for a $30 meal. The filet was very good however, and cooked perfectly. We topped it off with some type of banana/bread desert and it was amazing. We went to Julio's for my mother's 59th birthday celebration August 2008. I called ahead and made reservations. We arrived 15 minutes early, were seated in the cafe, and a young man came and took our drink order. We ordered wine, water, and dirty martinis. The water and martini arrived promptly but no wine. About 10 minutes later a different young lady came and told us about the appetizer specials. We ordered a tomato and mozzarella appetizer. It took an additional 30 minutes before that came out and during that time, the young lady came back and asked us what we would like to order. But as we had still not seen or heard what they were offering at that time, it was hard to decide. So, she said she would bring a menu out. Appetizer was finally served (no wine yet) and we enjoyed it. Then she came back after we had finished the appetizer to ask if we were ready to order again, yet we still had not seen nor heard what they were serving (typically they recite the menu but she was apparently too busy to do that). Meanwhile, 3 other couples who had arrived after us had been seated, ordered, and were now eating their entrees. So then my mother informed her that we had ordered wine, which she begrudgingly brought. Then proceeded to walk right by our table 4 times and ignore us. Finally, another server sensing our distress came over and offered to help however she could. She asked if we would like to order but I had had enough and just asked for the check. She informed us that she would take care of it not to worry about anything. Then, the other server came back, walked up to our table, threw the check book on the table, and walked over and started to talk to another table and said "HIGH FIVE FOR BEING PATIENT" to the gentleman at the table. Completely uncalled for, rude, and unprofessional. We had been there for an hour and a half and STILL never heard nor saw the menu! I was in tears I was so angry and desperately wanted to see the manager but didn't want to further ruin the evening. My husband and I live in Pittsburgh and have been to amazing restaurants here where they truly know what good service is. Good lord the people at McDonald's are not as rude as this woman was to us. There are several reasons I'm giving them 1 star. The atmosphere is dark and old, and not in a romantic way. Everything is terribly outdated, and our tableware was actually dirty. They really need to renovate the place and start from scratch. Secondly, the food isn't that good. Okay, it isn't 1 star bad, it's maybe a 2 or 3, but definitely not good enough to make up for the other shortcomings. I had a chicken dish that was so dry and chewy I deemed it inedible. Come on, it's chicken. It isn't that difficult. The price!! There are no menus, so at no point do you have any idea how much you are spending. Some might find this artistic, but I'd prefer to know how much I'm paying (a LOT) and what my choices are. With their system there are only a couple of things offered, I think with the goal of forcing you to spend as much money as possible. I honestly believe that the lady who works there judges how much of a stink you'll make about cost and then adjusts her pricing. You will sit through an hours-long mediocre dinner to be slammed with a bill 3x what you expected. Don't even THINK about hiring them to cater an event. They are completely unreliable, and the "estimate" will more than double after they have the deposit. I will absolutely never hand these people one more red cent. read more

I think this is my favorite restaurant because the food tastes and smells like my family's did growing up. I love the onion and pasta fagioli. My favorite pastas are the Constanza and primavera. My favorite appetizers are the tomato plate and bruschetta. I don't know how they do it, but the tomatoes are ripe and juicy all year round. The desserts are wonderful. Tiramisu and raspberry gateau top my list. In the winter, when the fire is going it is cozy and warm. Finally, I like supporting them because they are a family-owned business. read more

They recently increased all their prices. Went there for lunch with a group of 5 people. The food was ok, but the prices were outrageous. We asked for garlic toast for the table and they brought two baskets. At the end when we got our checks, all of our meals were over $20. I just got a sandwich and a salad. Turns out that they charged each of us $4 for the garlic toast, which means they charged our table $20 for 2 small baskets. This is the most expensive bread I have ever seen. We brought this up with the waiter and it was not a mistake. We will probably never go back. read more

Recently traveling through Clarksburg, we decided to try Julio's simply because the reviews were all over the map and confusing as to whether or not it's a good place to eat. Bottom Line: yes, we'd recommend Julio's for a nice, leisurely, quality dinner. To help others decide, I'll comment on what I read in reviews before ours: WAIT: We were there fairly early on a somewhat slow night, so no delay in seating. SPEED OF SERVICE: Yes, it's a leisurely pace which allows you to enjoy drinks and dinner over the evening. Our server was Jeffery, and we thought our drink/wine order was taking a while, then we noticed Jeffery was making all the drinks behind the bar. A small staff is handling everything, so service is not speedy. Plan for a leisurely dinner, and if you don't have time for that, it may not be the night for Julio's. MENU OR LACK THEREOF: It's true - there's no written menu. Like other reviewers, we found this bizarre. It makes it tough to judge the value of your dish because you have no idea the setup or price of any of the many entrees offered. And because the long list is recited from memory, you wonder if you're told everything on offer (and if everyone is charged the same). We asked several questions, but it got tedious to try to remember the dishes listed (15-20 the night we were there) and find out how they're served and how much they cost. We took a chance and ordered two entrées... PRICE/VALUE: With no opportunity to choose dinner with price in mind, our entrées were around $35 each (a nice filet for my husband, Chilean sea bass for me). We're from the DC area and are used to pricy meals, but I didn't think the average person in Clarksburg WV would pay that much without knowing beforehand. However, the entrée price includes the entire dinner minus drinks and dessert - you get bread, soup, salad and an entrée large enough that we both took home second meals. When we realized that, we judged the meal to be a very good value (esp in DC terms) - a lot of food and it was all delicious (both times!). QUALITY OF FOOD: This is the only Clarksburg restaurant we tried, but I can't imagine the food could have been better. We were very pleased with all of our food, including profiteroles and tiramisu for dessert. DECOR: The restaurant is not fancy inside or out, but not as bad as the reviews suggest - no shag carpet, the murals of Italy are pretty, everything seemed clean and well cared-for. SERVICE: Excellent. We experienced no rudeness, only very attentive service whenever someone passed by. Jeffery was top notch, always trying to make our dinner pleasant. On one stop by our table, he saw a gnat take a dive into my wine glass and insisted on pouring me a brand new glass. He worked hard all night, and others cleared dishes as they passed by. We ate there on 13 May. Had a reservation due to it being Mothers' Day weekend. One of the owners seated us and she was very welcoming. An extensive menu, predominantly Italian dishes. Everything looked great but we both had the veal parmigiana. The garlic bread was great as was the salad. The Italian sausage appetizer was excellent. Everything was very flavorful and large portions. I had the tiramisu and she had the pistachio cream cake. Both were made on the site and were a perfect end to a fabulous meal. The décor is rustic but everything was neat and clean, beautifully white linens, sparkling glassware and flatware. Service was phenomenal. This was my first time there but it won't be my last. The food is a little pricey but well worth it, in my opinion. read more

The food and service at Julios are absolutely amazing. My wife and I have been regulars here for over two years now. We try to get here for every special event we have in our lives (e.g. birthdays, anniversary, promotions). I do agree with the last reviewer that the atmosphere and decor need some work, especially in the bar/diner area that is utilized mostly at lunch time. The fireplace in the dinner dining area is wonderful though, for quaint and special evening meals. Service is wonderful, because the owners and servers will quickly get to know you as you return more than one time to eat. They remember what you ordered, how you like things, what wine you like for dinner, etc. The final caveat that needs to be mentioned is yes, Julios is an expensive place to eat for dinner (lunch is actually very reasonable). If you are just looking for standard Italian food, sure, go to any of the multitude of places in the Clarksburg/Bridgeport/Fairmont/Morgantown area. If you are looking for something really special and have the extra money to spare, do yourself a favor and go to Julios. read more

This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat around here. It is a whole different eating experience all together, from the beautiful rooms to excellent service. It took me a while to get used to not reading a menu but I quickly got comfortable with the verbal menu and found it to be enjoyable. The lady who was serving us that night was very nice and even gave us complimentary dessert and drinks. I will definitely come back again. This place is a must for people who don't mind paying top dollars for good service and amazing food. Watch out for their large portions. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Moved from PGH so was a bit skeptical due to having our favorite joints back home for certain types of cuisine. Didn't make a reservation. Walked in around 8pm on a Saturday and was told the wait would be 45 min. Got a drink at the bar and within 15 minutes we were sat. Garlic bread served with make your own oil with fresh Parm and chili flakes. Amazing. We devoured the basket before our app arrived. Of course we got another! Ordered the "half and half" app. Their signature tomato salad covered in puréed basil olive oil with red onion and green peppers and Gorgonzola roasted red pepper crostini bites. Dinner was served with a classic romaine salad dressed with house balsamic. I ordered the veal parm. HUGE. My s/o ordered spicy marinara filet served along angel hair with seared tomatoes. Unlike anything I've ever seen. Everything left us talking about how delicious it was all the way home. We ordered way to much food and left with hefty boxes for dinner tomorrow. Since being from Clarksburg, Im very familiar with this restaurant. I do eat here when I get the chance and thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere in the back room, espicially in the winter time when the fire is roaring. I have never had a bad meal here. I go more for the food, and dont worry too much about the service, though the service was never bad. Their steak is mouth watering. Their salads are a perfect way to start a meal. Best place to take a date but bring your fat wallet. Worth the money for me. Remember, Joe DiMaggio used to dine here when he came to town. And he loved it. Compared to some of the eateries in NY city, I say this place is in a league of its own. read more
