During that call, I was told there was a 4-week introductory program for $149, with classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:00 PM. I was also told that after the introductory period, membership would be $257 per month, with a discounted rate available if I signed up early. Based on that information, I was excited to get started. I confirmed my email, completed the registration process, signed the waiver, and booked what was advertised on the website as a free trial. When I arrived for class, I was informed that free trials were no longer offered and that the $149 introductory program was no longer available. This was surprising given that only about 10 days had passed since I had called to confirm everything. I asked whether I could simply pay for a drop-in fundamentals class since I was already there and on time, but I was told that drop-ins were only available to students with prior experience. As a brand-new student, my only option was to sign up for the full $257 monthly membership. That was the most frustrating part. The lower-cost introductory option was gone, the free trial was gone, and I wasn't allowed to pay for a single class to see if the gym was a good fit. Instead, the only option available was to commit to a full month for $257 without ever having taken a class there. That's a significant commitment for someone trying a new gym for the first time. It's unfortunate because the facility seems to have a great community and many satisfied members. However, having the terms change so quickly after I confirmed them, combined with having no way to try a class before committing to a full membership, left me with a very negative first impression.

Starting BJJ can feel intimidating, but they've created a safe and supportive environment that makes it much easier to stay consistent. That's important for a sport like this where progress takes time. What initially drew me in was Cobrinha's philosophy, and it absolutely lives up to the reputation. I'd encourage anyone to learn about it directly from him. I've been meaning to write this for a while, but I'm proud to be a member here now. This is a great place to start your BJJ journey.

Patrick helped us get on boarded and set us up with a family plan. Then we started our classes with Jesse. It's not only one if the best work outs I've had, but it's super fun. Jesse clearly has experience, and even though we're boxing for fitness and not for competition, he spends time ensuring we're learning everything we can. I love this place, and wonder how everyone in the city hasn't found it yet!

It starts with a quick warm-up, followed by learning a skill. Coaches will demo each move a few times and show you variations. You take turns drilling with your partner while the coaches will keep an eye out for questions or if someone is having trouble. The last 20 mins or so will be spent live rolling with different people on the mat. I also went to quite a few of the Friday workouts. The workout is mainly bodyweight/HIIT exercises that are timed. What I like about these is you can push yourself as hard as you want. If something is easier for you, do more or go faster. Not gonna lie, these classes kicked my ass. Sometimes I dreaded going to these but I never regret going. Overall, a great place to learn any form of martial art and get fit. Shout out to all the coaches who trained and pushed me!

The adult classes they have are Brazilian jiu jitsu (in the gi), and no-gi jiu jitsu, striking which ranges from boxing to kickboxing and muay thai, wrestling, MMA, escrima (stick fighting), and cardio conditioning classes. They also have kids classes, which you can find out about on their website. The monthly membership fee is a pretty good deal in my opinion. It's not uncommon for other gyms to have separate monthly fees for different disciplines, which quickly make the cost unaffordable for the average person. At Fight Science it's one price whether you want to pick a single discipline or train them all. You can do a free trail week if you're interested in checking it out. They can also loan you a gi if you want to try BJJ before committing to buying your own gear.

But we spent alittle over $300 there on everything! There is a $35 or $45 entrance fee depending on when you come. It's just to come inside the lagoon. If you want the obstacle course it's an additional $10 per person for 55 mins (super short). If you want to kayak, use the aqua bike or use the paddleboard it's an additional $10 per equipment/item. There is a kiddie area for small and young children. They DO NOT allow outside food or drinks except water! There is a small shop that sells misc. items, snacks & drinks (overpriced). They also had a foodtruck inside that was expensive and the meals didn't come with drinks. They do have plenty of staff and lifeguards there. The entrance fee should of been $15-20. The obstacle course atleast 90-120 mins instead of the 55 mins. Wish the foodtruck came with drinks and was a bigger portion.

My younger son joined not knowing anyone and felt welcomed almost immediately. Both of my boys felt included from day one. The staff is incredibly caring, supportive, and attentive. You can truly feel that they work hard to create a safe, joyful environment for the kids, and as a parent that means everything. The activities are fantastic: well planned, age appropriate, engaging, and fun. The natural setting is also beautiful and feels especially important these days. My boys came home with confidence, stories, friendships, and summer memories they will cherish forever. And the camp spirit is real. As usual, water in the room costs money, and there are a few other products with hidden price tags in the room, too. Surprisingly, toothbrush and toothpaste was not provided. The water for showering also doesn't get too hot. In terms of the athletic space, the machines were very easy to access. There was never a wait even on weekend afternoons. The lap pool was my favorite part - clean and calm. There was some miscommunication between the lobby and the store, as one said there is no reservation system but there in fact was. But even when told all the lanes were fully reserved, more than half weren't in use. Parking is a bit of a hassle; for non-members it's definitely not worth it. At the time of visit, the parking machine wasn't working. There are also sperate elevators for parking vs the athletic club / hotel area which was a little confusing. The stair numbers also didn't coordinate the best with actual level.

TERRIBLE LIARS AND THIEVES. NOT FOR ADULTS. Not for serious martial artists. Leave these tricks for kids. If you want an afterschool program for children, then maybe, but still way too expensive. Its places like these that give Kung Fu schools a bad name. First day there you will meet Beth. She is a liar and a scam artist. She will tell you anything and everything to get you to sign up on the first day. She'll say that 'Master Steve', who teaches the Sparring class on Friday is really good, and he probably is, but he's teaching kids, so its dumbed down. Actually he was the only one to tell me the truth and he said, "Maybe you should go somewhere else because this school is pretty much just for kids." Of course that was after Beth lied to me about almost everything and got my money for tuition. Plus $100 for a uniform and $50 registration fee. None of it was worth the free toilet paper you get in the bathroom. So the first day is your special day. For example, my first day the grandmaster welcomed me into the class and then did this really strenuous class where most of the kids couldn't keep up, but I could. I assumed this was the way most classes were, so I signed up. The next class was slow, non strenuous, basic, no frills. And the following class, and the next two weeks, all no frills. Until someone new comes in, then you get a nice strenuous class. Two words: False Advertising. The final straw was testing day. I heard "if you don't know the form, just try to follow along." That's not a test and I expect higher standards. Final realization: Yeah, this place is for kids. THEN I got a new job, so I couldn't come in for a week. That insecure heifer Beth charged my credit card for the following month's tuition a month early because she assumed I probably wasn't coming back and wanted to cut my losses. I was going to go back, but after that, HELL NO! I think the school has the potential to be a good school, but not as long as Beth is the school Manager. She's a scumbag and is the reason why martial arts schools get such a bad reputation. read more

As an American citizen raised in Korea I studied Kung Fu for many years. this place is a scam. the lady who owns the school looks like a scam artist. i've observed classes there and i can say that nobody know what they are doing at that place. there are movie star pictures on the wall to make it look as if your Hollywood fantasy will come true here and you will become the next Bruce Lee. There are also some certificates on the wall bu they looked pretty fake to me. there are some medals and awards but they come from the World Marital Arts Federation aka Moo Sool Won to its own students. You are better off finding a dojo that will not rip you off and properly train you. don't judge this a dojo by how it looks. this place has expensive tables and chairs because they are ripping off everyone. the funny thing is that they supposedly teach kung fu but they are korean. i kind of expected them to teach taekwondo. the main dude is supposedly a 10th degree black belt but he looks around 50 something, kind of unrealistic. his wife is probably in her late forties, also an 8th degree black belt - total b.s. stay away, this place has scam written all over it. i am sure that the positive comments are written by the owners or their relatives or maybe they gave them a medal to write a positive comment, lol. some other comments made this place sound like a major rip off. this place is real MCDOJO, lol. some idiot gave them $10,000, what a moron! i would give them a zero rating read more

For almost 5 yrs I've been searching all over southern California for a martial arts institution that I would want to enroll my kids in. From as far north as Fresno all the way to San Diego, but had no luck. I was looking for a school that would encompass the world of martial arts as I have come to know it. I myself am an accomplished martial artist having studies 5 different disciplines from Tae Kwon Do, Wing Chun to Kenpo Karate. I wanted to find a martial arts academy that would offer that diversity and commitment to their students. Moorimgoong IS just that institution. Kung Fu at Moo Sool Won has kept me out of trouble as a teenager and help me with discipline to finish college. It reduced my stress from work. Moo Sool Won has a family environment. My good friend started training at this dojang and she recommended I just try a class. I was never really athletic or into exercise so I didn't know what to expect. What started as an intrigue eventually ended being something totally unexpected and really fun! As I started investing more time and energy into training, I've noticed a dramatic increase in athleticism and flexibility - two things that I have struggled with my entire life! Though there is still much to learn and get better at, I know that martial arts is a constant journey of self improvement. This martial arts dojang is my personal life story. I have grew up from this dojang since childhood and has taught me everything i have to know from respect to discipline to smart thinking. I have learned hapiness, confidence, respect, encouragement, family, and most importantly love. you will never learn martial arts at this place. the owners look like scam artists from Korea. there are scientology and religious material everywhere. do not give any money to these people. most people who come here don't know kung fu or how to fight. there is no actual validity to training expertise or statements made by these people on their web-site. it will be impossible for anyone to determine if they have a black belt or not. STAY AWAY. there are plenty of places in los angeles where you could get excellent training for a lot less money. if you want your kids to learn discipline or how to fight, go to your community center or ask around for masters who are not interested in collecting your money. read more

How would I have ever guessed that martial arts could help my psyche? Suffering from a skin condition, the beautiful and charismatic, Grandmaster Ari Moon, initially helped me punch and yell out my itching. I started at MoorimGoong when they rebranded, about 3 months ago. My Brother, Paulo is an assistant instructor and the school helped lead him through his weight loss/ Martial Arts journey. Before MoorimGoong, I was near 300 pounds and at the heaviest I had ever been. I started and stuck to a diet recommended by the Chief Master: Daniel Lee Moon, now im 215-220 and the best I've felt in years. I have had the distinct pleasure of training within the MSW family since 1996, and believe it to be the best martial arts training there is. Great school/program for ALL AGES, positive reach for the community and my son loves going here. He's a shy, strong independent 4 1/2 yr old. We signed him up to be more social with other kids. This definitely helped even those it is a individual sport where he goes at his own learning speed it does make him and others more confident and strong both physically and mentally. I have been training at MRG for about 20 months and I can genuinely attest that has made a fundamental improvement to my mental and physical health. The price of a membership is a little higher than average but it is not without good reason; the space is much larger than most in LA, it is kept clean at all times (no fingernails on the mats), and the owners are consistently making strides to better the experience. Hollywood Judo Dojo - An Adult Perspective- I want to be…read moreclear about my background going in. I currently have around 15ish hours of hands-on class time at Hollywood Judo Dojo. I started over the age of 25, in decent shape, with prior experience in informal grappling and informal striking from my Navy years and training with my brothers (one of whom served in the Army). While none of that was formal or belt-based, it gave me a solid understanding of physical contact, balance, and pressure before stepping into a formal structured judo environment. Before committing here, I tried several other dojos. They were solid, but most were clearly geared toward kids, and adult classes often lacked enough adult bodies to train consistently. That's where Hollywood Judo Dojo immediately stood out--there's a strong adult training presence, with partners of different sizes, strengths, and experience levels, which makes training far more effective. Another thing I appreciate is the variety in adult classes. Different instructors emphasize different aspects of judo--some classes are more free-flowing, others slow things down to explain risk and injury mechanics, and others lean toward competition. Rather than feeling disjointed, it creates a well-rounded training experience. The other black and brown belts outside main instructors are respectful and generous with their knowledge. Across all classes, safety and partner care are consistently emphasized. That culture matters, especially for adults starting later who want to train consistently and longterm without unnecessary injuries. Instruction also focuses on fundamentals first, with no rush to flashy techniques. You're taught how and why things work before moving on. Progress here feels earned. Belts are not handed out casually, and the standard is clear. The overall vibe is chill, professional, and respectful, which says a lot about the dojo's culture. From a practical standpoint, the price is excellent compared to other martial arts schools (200$+ average ) especially considering the quality of instruction, training partners, and facility. The dojo is also conveniently located near the metro train, which is a nice bonus. Even with limited mat time so far, I've learned a lot. For adults--especially those starting later or coming from informal/mixed striking or grappling backgrounds--Hollywood Judo Dojo is a great , legitimate place to train.

Now that we have become parents, sending our 5 year old son to TDK was one the best decisions ever! All the Masters here are fully trained and equipped to train and mold our little ones.
