This is a small, casual diner located in The Junction. We walked in around noon on a Saturday out of curiosity, and got seated right away. The food here is simple with a home-cooked taste, and served in large portions. We ordered the Junction breakfast and Pancakes. The pancakes were good, and the salad that came with the Junction Breakfast was delicious. My biggest complaint here was that I asked to substitute the breakfast meat with avocado instead, and they served an over-ripe (maybe rotting) avocado on my plate. The avocado slices were all covered in brown and black spots and had to be pushed aside... I would have appreciated if they offered extra salad or something else if they didn't have a fresh avocado available.  The server was friendly, the food came in a reasonable amount of time, and the service was efficient. read more

Junction Grill has been on our radar ever since we moved to The Junction in January, so when patios re-opened we jumped at the opportunity to enjoy an outside brunch on a perfect June day. We're happy to report that all of our expectations were met, and exceeded, on this visit. First, a word about service. The patio was super busy (Toronto's pent up demand for restaurant dining - even outside - was evident) so the front-of-house folks were running hard - in some cases literally - to keep up. But keep up they did, all with good humour and excellent Covid-19 protocols well in hand. Once we had our superb double Americanos in hand we scanned the menu. To be honest, we struggled a bit to choose because everything on the menu looks so damn good! We were leaning towards breakfast tacos and/or burritos - or dinnertime versions of those favourites - but in the end decided to go for a couple of their omelettes. We had the Portuguese omelette (with an extra side of superb grilled chorizo sausage) and the vegetarian omelette with a humongous (as in we took a LOT home for another meal humongous) side of mouth wateringly delicious grilled veggies. Each omelette came with a small side salad, and a nicely toasted piece of Portuguese bread. Both platters were delicious and left us completely stuffed and content at the end of the meal. As for value-for-money, we enjoyed two generous omelettes, two delicious additional sides, and two very generous Americanos for a total of $47 (inclusive of HST and tip) - fantastic value for really delicious food, great service and a comfy, neighbourhood vibe. We actually made reservations for our first time here as it was Mother's Day and we wanted to ensure a table. We arrived early and to our surprise, we were seated as though a reservation never happened...our server seemed shocked when we said we had one. Luckily there was a spare table for two during the peak lunch hour. Unfortunately, we had a RIDICULOUS experience and we did not even get a chance to dine in. We WAITED FOR ONE HOUR and we still did not get our food. A table beside us came after us and had their food before us. This, despite a proper reservation and having a baby in tow. My husband was on the brink of an explosion. We calmly contained ourselves, walked up to the counter and asked for our food to-go. We asked why we waited for one hour yet our food was not ready; and why other customers who came after us were served before us (we saw several tables in the back had also received their food before us). We were given very poor excuses about how things had transpired, how they had no idea what had happened. This was perhaps one of the worst service experiences we've had. We live in the neighbourhood, had high hopes for this eatery (because of all the glowing Google reviews) and really wanted to enjoy ourselves but WILL NEVER patronize them again. Our take-out ended up being offered on the house and while a nice gesture for all our grief and frustration, the experience was utterly unsalvageable. The photo shows our lacklustre order (waffles and fruit, Brazilian omelette), what we had waited one hour for.... we are fans of brunch fare and wow, how utterly underwhelming it was. Overall, I would give 0.5/5 stars if I could. A few recommendations I'd like to offer management: * Treat your dine-in customers with the same priority as your takeout customers. Yes, I understand cranking out takeout orders is important but it is unfair to only serve your dine-in customers ONLY after the takeout line is cleared. This is exactly what happened. The two tables beside us got their food once the takeout frenzy was done. We never did. * If takeout is king, then don't offer tables and just make it a takeout eatery. * Train staff to update customers if there is to be an unreasonable wait for food. We were told several times that our 'food was coming.' Only when we complained at the counter upon leaving were we told that the waffle machine had broken down, hence my order never came. Not sure how convenient this was, as a table beside us happily enjoyed their waffles. If I had known that was apparently the case, I would have ordered something else instead of waiting on something that would never come. * Basics such as offering water and checking in with customers are non-negotiable. We luckily ordered smoothies and therefore had something to drink. Our only check-ins were to falsely reassure us that our food was 'coming.' It never came. * Hire more staff, especially for peak periods. Servers and cooks can only do so much. read more

If you're looking for a healthy breakfast spot, this is the place. Everything is served with salad so you can't go wrong . The menu has different options so you will most definitely find something you like. I am picky with what I eat and I do recommend this place. I had eggs with chorizo sausage and the food was very fresh. I did not wait for too long however finished the meal in about 10 minutes. Salad was very delicious. Everyone was very friendly and the service was fast. I ordered the tacos and my partner had the huevos rancheros. The food was not very good. I ate it, but all the tacos filling was just cooked all together like a stir fry and the tortilla fell apart. It tasted like something I would have made in university, not restaurant quality like I expected. Too bad because I had heard good things. Maybe my taco bar is just too high. My partner didn't like hers either. Redeeming qualities are convenient location, coffee came in big cups, service was fast and friendly, and they have number 7 hot sauce which is local. If they can improve the food I would be happy to return and give 5 stars! I would love that and hopefully it will happen. read more

Love to go here on Sunday mornings. Pancakes are delicious and their lattes are amazing! Staff are really nice and upbeat. I purchased an almond croissant once and I walked out of the store forgetting it on the counter and the girl ran out just to bring it to me and I was on the other side of the street. Horrible. Just horrible. My group shows up on a Saturday afternoon to find one employee in the whole business. There are several tables and the same lone employee is responsible for taking orders, cooking the food, serving the food and collecting payment. Needless to say, service was slow. The food itself was medicore and severely overpriced - you can pay up to $10 for a tiny sandwhich. They clearly do not use premium ingredients - it's basic cheap food at a premium price. The cake was store bought and the cheesecake was served at room temperature (eww). The worst part of the trip was the extreme dishonesty or unhygenicness. The server/cook/cashier/owner refused to serve us tap water. When I asked why, she said that it was because the building had "bad" water. The water wasn't bad enough to stop them from using it to cook, clean (their hands and the dishes) and to use in the washroom. So either this is a filthy restaurant knowingly using (but not serving) dirty water, or they are crooks who try and trick their customers into buying pop, bottled water and coffee. Lies like this insult everyone's intelligence, and they ruined our lunch. read more

Ahhhh and wahhhhh The Junction!!! One day you will have a really nice restaurant and maybe a really great Candian food cafe that will bring out the foodies. For now, we can only keep hoping and eating really good sushi and Vietnamese. Cafe Cranberries is a clean place that offers slightly over priced food. I had the recommended 8.50 steak sandwich. It came with no sides and tasted a bit more like shoe leather. The place has no wi-fi. It does offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The place gives a large ad space in the restaurant for desserts. One star because I've got to pick something. Place is starting to physically fall apart and is in desperate need of a cleaning. If the walls and floors where customers are, are looking grimy I hate to see the hidden kitchen areas. Staff are continually rude or dismissive. Will not allow customers to use the washroom before a purchase. There are MANY other cafes within a block east or west, no need to take rude service and mediocre food when I can walk a block. WILL NOT RETURN Update June 2016. I happened across the Facebook page for this restaurant and wrote a review, I was actually kinder than my previous review here. Nonetheless I was told "sorry you had a bad experience, I guess 3 employees at a small business isn't enough for you, why don't you go eat microwaved McDonald's food and only wait ten minutes." This place appears to be getting a super bad rap here, and I can't say I understand why? I've had the PLEASURE, of having breakfast/brunch or just a coffee numerous times and the food has never been anything less than exceptional, the coffee stupendous and the service.. well It's been awhile since I've been made to feel so at home in a place. Here's what I've had, and what I recommend you give a try the next time you're in: 1) Caramel Latte - Not overly sweet, not too strong, but a great value and delicious 2) Breakfast Croissant - Egg, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, Cheese. Stick it all in a pannini press and take it out once grilled and buttery all over - divine 3) Brazilian Omelet - Was a little different than what I'm used to for breakfast, but worth a try if you enjoy Portuguese sausage 4) The Steak Sandwich - I seriously don't know where someone else got "shoe leather", my sandwich was melt in my mouth amazing. And since when does a"to go" sandwich come with sides? People... this is easily a secret steak sandwich YOU NEED to try and YOU NEED to know about! (Remember who told you this) Here's a couple of fun facts: 1) Owned and operated by a husband and wife and their family. Nicest people ever! If you visit more than once and you chat with them, they make you feel totally at home and like one of the family - even remembering your names and your order. You don't get service like this anymore 2) Their coffee beans are specially roasted (specifically their decaf) for them. The decaf beans they use go through a special Swiss water process to eliminate all traces of caffeine so that you know you're getting 0 g of caffeine in your coffee. The Sbux and 2nd Cups of the world cannot make the same claim as their decaf still retain some caffeine. I was suppose to meet some friends at the Demetre's Cafe by Yorkdale and it was very busy with the usual underage teenage crowd on a Friday night. Our small group walked about one block on Dufferin and, lo and behold, we found the small gem that is Cranberries Cafe tcked inside the Red Lobester Plaza on Dufferin Street. The atmosphere in the Cafe was unbelievably romantic with low lighting complemented by a candle flickering on each table. The cafe had couches, tables for two and areas for groups. The decor was very warm with red and black being the dominate colour combination. The menu was surprisingly extensive for a cafe and they had everything from all day breakfast, to crepes and funnel cake (a la Wonderland). The drinks were also lovely and even the coffee tasted wonderfully fresh even though it was a late night visit for us. Our server was very pleasant as was all the staff. The staff never tried to rush us and after we left we realized that it was a bit past closing time. I love this place and feel lucky to have found it. Cranberries is the perfect place to go and unwind after a day of shopping at Yorkdale Mall, meet some friends for brunch, or to study late into the night as they have WI-FI. The atmosphere also makes an ideal place to take a first date. Give it a try if you are in the area, you won't be disappointed. read more

Wow! Just had the Breakfast Burrito and I gotta say it's a little piece of heaven. Very generous serving size that's pleasantly hard to finish. This is possibly one of the best independent cafes in the uptown Toronto area. The ambiance is similar to that of Starbucks. Portuguese pop music play softly throughout the store. The washrooms are clean and rarely run low on toiletries. The seating area is seldom crowded and have plenty of comfortable leather couches to rest on. Their menu offers a wide array of European style desserts, pastries and breads. I'll admit that I'm not much of a dessert fan or anything sweet so I can't comment on how they taste. I mostly order coffee or tea based beverages when I walk into any given coffee shop. The staff however may need a little bit more training in the art of communication. One late evening, I ordered a decaf red-eye and the barista looked back with a confused face and replied with "I'm sorry sir I can't make that because we don't have that on the menu." Instead of that reply, she could have asked her fellow co-workers on how to make it or ask me "What is it?" or "How can I make it?" Overall, Cranberries Cafe is the ideal place to have a casual chat with your mates or have a mug of fresh brewed coffee while reading your favourite book. read more

I finally tried this place after it being around awhile, fake chicken, and popped in for a coffee and grilled chicken sandwich. fake chicken. The coffee was fine and staff seemed pleasant, fake chicken, but the "grilled" chicken was FAKE! You know that "chicken" you get at Subway? Spongy and weird, and made up of chicken beaks and butts and god knows what else. Put that between two pieces of bread and charge $8 for it. I met up with an old friend here for breakfast and we were not disappointed. I got the tacos. They were alright. The sour cream made it. We also got the kombucha, which was only awful because the cap was IMPOSSIBLE to take off. Once we finally gave up and asked for help, a staff member cut it off with scissors (she tried like 5 different ways). It was good, but ask someone to open the cap for you. The nutella crepe is enormous so keep that in mind while ordering. I would definitely come back here. I wish they had parking. read more

I was walking past and saw their sandwich special - burger + fries ($11) and chicken club sandwich + fries ($13). Ordered both and was charged the above price. When I came back to pick it up, neither came with fries (even though that's what their sandwich board advertised). I asked the woman and she said that price didn't actually include the fries and I was supposed to order them separately. Hmmm...okay, walk home and my husband and I open our sandwiches, my burger was fine but his chicken club was MISSING THE CHICKEN. It literally only had one piece of bacon, lettuce, and tomato. LOL. I call the restaurant just to let her know so they don't do it to another customer if it was an honest mistake and all she repeats is that she cannot give me a refund because I took it home (which eating at the restaurant is not even an option because of COVID). Basically we spent $25 (not including tip) for two mediocre sandwiches, one that did not even have the MAIN INGREDIENT included. You are better going off to A&W (at least for sandwiches) down the street, you'll be charged half the price and will actually get all the food that you ordered. read more

HORRIBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! As soon as me and my friends walked in their was a weird vibe in the room. The waiter knew nothing!! I asked what type of ice cream they had and he told me to get up and look in the fridge WTF? WHY DONT U GO LOOK AND TELL ME WHATS IN THE FRIDGE!! The Menu was retarded!! why do i need to pay extra to have ice cream on my waffle? crape? or funnel cake? at demetres its part of the meal. Tiramisu ice cream was TOO strong and the cheesecake ice cream tasted sour. My boyfriends waffle was crispy and my funnel cake was inedible it was hard but chewy it was just an odd feeling I stopped eating it because my teeth were hurting!! I have eaten at Cafe Cranberries on a number of occasions and found the food to be exceptional. I have no idea what the other reviewers ate but I have had a number of the dishes and have not yet found anything to be upset with. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful even offering items that have not been on the menu. I love that Cafe Cranberries has come to the Junction and I hope that they are here for many more years to come. In fact since they have opened I have only seen one day when there was no one else in there but the staff. Cranberries is a perfect place for a quick breakfast. This is a "go-to" place for me and my wife on weekends as we live in the neighbourhood. While not the classiest breakfast place in the neighbourhood, this place has great service, great coffee and a great breakfast at a lower price than expected. The added bonus is the small patio in the summer. I love their breakfast sandwich, the toppings and bread are fresh. The size of the sandwich is quite large too. Truly tasty food! I have to Cafe Cranberries several times and have never been dissatisfied. The thing that stands out with them is the excellent service. Every time we go, we are greeted with a warm and sincere "Hello! How have you been?". Their food is top notch as well, my favorite dish the tostada (with beef). This place was dead on a hot Thursday afternoon even with their patio open, there were no guests. They have lots of breakfast stuff on the menu, but I was there to have lunch. I ordered a veggie burrito and the presentation was very appealing when it arrived. It was extremely hot to eat and I'm someone who enjoys eating food at a warm temperature so I had to wait a long time for it to cool. The burrito was very bland, I know I ordered a veggie burrito but it really needs some spices to bring out the vegetables flavours. My sister ordered a cheesecake and cappuccino and it looked great. After my burrito, I had some "gelato" - it tasted like ice cream. However, they serve you lots of it when you order it in a cup. I will come back though, its just not my go-to cafe. read more

This is a huge hot spot for my friends and I. We attend this cafe on a regular basis and we've been going since it's opened! Since the start, I noticed how much the cafe has innovated with the menu, service, and inner decor. I like the cozy feeling and excellent service offered. I feel as though I am always treated as a person as opposed to just a customer. I am impressed, and feel as though it has the potential to attract high end customers if there was a location in the downtown realm. I hope Cranberries sticks around and continues to grow!
