Double Americanos
Culinary S.

Junction Grill has been on our radar ever since we moved to The Junction in January, so when patios re-opened we jumped at the opportunity to enjoy an outside brunch on a perfect June day. We're happy to report that all of our expectations were met, and exceeded, on this visit. First, a word about service. The patio was super busy (Toronto's pent up demand for restaurant dining - even outside - was evident) so the front-of-house folks were running hard - in some cases literally - to keep up. But keep up they did, all with good humour and excellent Covid-19 protocols well in hand. Once we had our superb double Americanos in hand we scanned the menu. To be honest, we struggled a bit to choose because everything on the menu looks so damn good! We were leaning towards breakfast tacos and/or burritos - or dinnertime versions of those favourites - but in the end decided to go for a couple of their omelettes. We had the Portuguese omelette (with an extra side of superb grilled chorizo sausage) and the vegetarian omelette with a humongous (as in we took a LOT home for another meal humongous) side of mouth wateringly delicious grilled veggies. Each omelette came with a small side salad, and a nicely toasted piece of Portuguese bread. Both platters were delicious and left us completely stuffed and content at the end of the meal. As for value-for-money, we enjoyed two generous omelettes, two delicious additional sides, and two very generous Americanos for a total of $47 (inclusive of HST and tip) - fantastic value for really delicious food, great service and a comfy, neighbourhood vibe. We're definitely going to be Junction Grill regulars so we can try the rest of their menu. Highly recommended.

We actually made reservations for our first time here as it was Mother's Day and we wanted to ensure a table. We arrived early and to our surprise, we were seated as though a reservation never happened...our server seemed shocked when we said we had one. Luckily there was a spare table for two during the peak lunch hour. Unfortunately, we had a RIDICULOUS experience and we did not even get a chance to dine in. We WAITED FOR ONE HOUR and we still did not get our food. A table beside us came after us and had their food before us. This, despite a proper reservation and having a baby in tow. My husband was on the brink of an explosion. We calmly contained ourselves, walked up to the counter and asked for our food to-go. We asked why we waited for one hour yet our food was not ready; and why other customers who came after us were served before us (we saw several tables in the back had also received their food before us). We were given very poor excuses about how things had transpired, how they had no idea what had happened. This was perhaps one of the worst service experiences we've had. We live in the neighbourhood, had high hopes for this eatery (because of all the glowing Google reviews) and really wanted to enjoy ourselves but WILL NEVER patronize them again. Our take-out ended up being offered on the house and while a nice gesture for all our grief and frustration, the experience was utterly unsalvageable. The photo shows our lacklustre order (waffles and fruit, Brazilian omelette), what we had waited one hour for.... we are fans of brunch fare and wow, how utterly underwhelming it was. Overall, I would give 0.5/5 stars if I could. A few recommendations I'd like to offer management: * Treat your dine-in customers with the same priority as your takeout customers. Yes, I understand cranking out takeout orders is important but it is unfair to only serve your dine-in customers ONLY after the takeout line is cleared. This is exactly what happened. The two tables beside us got their food once the takeout frenzy was done. We never did. * If takeout is king, then don't offer tables and just make it a takeout eatery. * Train staff to update customers if there is to be an unreasonable wait for food. We were told several times that our 'food was coming.' Only when we complained at the counter upon leaving were we told that the waffle machine had broken down, hence my order never came. Not sure how convenient this was, as a table beside us happily enjoyed their waffles. If I had known that was apparently the case, I would have ordered something else instead of waiting on something that would never come. * Basics such as offering water and checking in with customers are non-negotiable. We luckily ordered smoothies and therefore had something to drink. Our only check-ins were to falsely reassure us that our food was 'coming.' It never came. * Hire more staff, especially for peak periods. Servers and cooks can only do so much.

I came here out of the blue cause i didn't feel like making the same food and treated myself with take out. Let's say this place I did not know existed and it was pretty neat, it is straight out of Québécois home of the smoke meat and poutine. They caught my attention because of all the fancy decor and patio dining seat. They have a fancy swing with their advertised special which was the Roast Beef sandwich with bacon and cheese with side of fries/salad and a soft drink for 12.99, deal right? Lemme tell you, I was greeted with open arms by the 3 staff working and it was very home feeling. The roast beef was sliced quite thinly and was very tender to bite and chew. The curly fries was particularly interesting as it was kind of too well done for how I like to enjoy my fries traditionally, but maybe I'll learn to like it. Overall, the food was quite heavy that I'm going to just share my portion. I'll definitely come back and give some other items on the menu a go. ps: they provide you with a decent size pickle that is nice and salty.

I didnt even know if I called the right number. When we got that cleared up I asked for a pound of smoked meat. They proceeded to ask sandwich, platter... all I wanted was meat. Wheh we got that cleared up, we picked up the food and it tasted very good. It was shaved quite a bit more than I expected but that's it a huge issue. It also felt a bit on the expensive side. And maybe even overpriced per lb compared to what I might get in a sandwich. Parking is a bit hard here as the lot was quite busy. They gotta fix some customer service issues but otherwise the food was good.

The portions were extremely generous, especially when considering the price and the cost of food. WELL WORTH IT! I chose the veal sandwich (as my photo shows) with hot peppers. We requested a bit of time after the meal, which gave me just enough time to take in the atmosphere and aesthetic of this place. To me, it feels like a fusion of an old-world Italian bistro meets the new world, with old-school style tablecloths and the traditional sides in traditional glass serving containers. The interior design leans a bit more new world with nice panelled ceilings and even a lamp at the table that we could adjust by ourselves....

A panini is a great filler (the hot Italian is a great way to go). The meatball sandwich combines the best of all worlds - delicious meatballs, and delicious breads. And, the pizzas? Incredible value. The Costa Nostra is a great way to get a lot of unique flavours that work really well. There is also a wall of wine, which I'm sure is very exciting for a number of people. That's a world I can't speak to, but it was impressive to look at. The only slight downside is that the restaurant can be a little bit loud. But that's to be expected.

The chicken with the biscuits and gravy were 2 pieces of brined dark meat chicken served on a biscuit and collards smothered in pork gravy. Chicken was very juicy and super crunchy, collard needed some acidity, biscuit was light but a little overdone and gravy was not as fat a decadent than in the south, lighter but still tasty, wish they poured it a little more generously. The fried green tomato was outstanding as the accompany silly aioli situation was great. Kids apple jonnycakes were a hit and loved the hot chocolate with mini marshmallows for the kiddos. Gtilled cheese was a hit - got the pull and the bread was well toasted. The home fries were a bit of a let down. Although very cool and layered, they seemed very greasy, maybe oil or flattop wasn't hot enough? Benny's were both good, shrimp cake was well cooked and crisp and brisket was flavourful and moist. What a pleasant surprise... was very impressed with this place! Food (4.75/5) - they have a good mix of sandwiches, meats, jerk chicken and beef patties. - Fully Loaded Peameal On a Bun - what an outstanding breakfast sandwich - probably the best one I have ever had! Hearty portions of: - double peameal bacon patties - fried egg - melted cheddar - maple aioli - kale - tomato (not for me) All on a soft pain-au-lait bun. What a first bite! Juicy peameal, maple aioli flavour, perfectly fried medium soft egg were the highlights. Beef Patty - fresh not frozen and homemade. Had the mild one and probably could have done spicy instead... it is VERY mild. Nice mix of beef, oxtail and other ingredients in a nicely baked outer crust - not too dry or thick. Service (4.75/5) - can tell this is a family/private owned business... take pride in their stuff, friendly and polite. It isn't going to be ready in 5 minutes... building from scratch takes some time but well worth it! Atmosphere (4.25/5) - it's got this retro NYC deli feel to it with the artifacts, signs and hardware. Early afternoon not long before they closed to break and then begin dinner service prep. We were the last brunch patrons of the day. Only critique might be on their ventilation system. It was a bit smoky in the dining area. Most likely coming from the kitchen. No burnt smell, just a bit of haze. Atmosphere was quiet (of course. There were only a few tables eating at that time) and cozy. Decor is very Parisienne. My wife has been to Paris and she recalled cafés just like this one. Stacy was our server. She was very nice and very friendly. Exceptionally knowledgeable about the dishes and the story of the café. There was a sense of pride when she spoke of the café that did not go unnoticed. Food was delivered in good time. What was supposed to be hot was hot & cold, cold. We had: Thalassa (Galette) La Baraka (Crepe) La Complete (Galette) Cappuccino (2) Beer (local, Sleeman Original Lager) Bread with Butter & Strawberry Jam Suffice to say that EVERYTHING was delicious. That's, actually, an understatement. One bite of his La Complete and my brother in law said, "Dude, you gotta taste this!! And he was right..amazing." My dish was the Thalassa, because I adore smoked salmon. It was fresh, bright and it was my first time having caviar. I thought that I would love it and I did. Then, my wife's dish, the sweet La Baraka. O M G! Nothing like it. Sweet but not too sweet and come to find out from Stacy that all the components are made from scratch. The salted butter caramel & the Chantilly. Idk how it's made but I'm going to learn how to make that Chantilly. Soooo good! Also, the Cappuccino here is outstanding. My wife made the mistake of letting me try some. She had to order another! Delectable. The bread, of course, is House-made, as you'd expect. This was the kind of experience I look for, especially, when I travel. I would love to eat here again before we leave in a few days. We'll see.... There are many more experiences to have. MOST DEFINITELY RECOMMEND. 5/5
