    Southwest vegan hash
    Matt B.

Pretty garbagey breakfast joint that has a very lame vegan option. I only visited here because I was pressed for time and noticed they had a vegan hash ($11.50 plus tax) available. So I ordered that, which comes with home fries, mushrooms, red peppers and onions, served with a couple of small sides of tomato and lame guac. The dish came out in under 5 minutes. It was unseasoned other than salt, and none of their condiments (Frank's, ketchup) could save it. Nothing offensive, but just very lame. Thank you for having a vegan option, but you need to do a bit better. This was pretty lame and uninspiring. I would definitely not return. EDIT: Thanks for the response, Susan. I didn't criticize the freshness, portion, or cooking methods, but the overall construction of the dish: its lack of seasoning, the subpar/uncreative guac, etc. If you develop a more interesting vegan option, I'd be happy to give you another try. Cheers.

Food was good. The place was packed for a weekend brunch. Service was slow. Pancakes were good but the bacon and sausage were burnt.

Super Sunset Breakfast and Greek Omelette

If you told me that this place was a chain, I would of not believed you, After a night go drinking and a hangover, my girlfriend and I were looking for a spot to refuel. We did a quick search and found this place. We were seated quickly. We had water and coffee brought to us quickly. Our waitress was super friendly, The tables were pretty small, and I was worried that it may not fit all of your food, lol. For food, I ordered the super sunset breakfast: three eggs over-easy, two pancakes, home fries, bacon, and that. It was amazing! I started with the home fries. They were crispy and small which made them the perfect bite size. The pancakes were fluffy and perfectly soaked up the syrup. With every bite, I felt myself sobering up. The eggs were great, especially when soaking the toast in the yolk. My girlfriend ordered the greek omelet. She didn't expect the omelet to be so hearty. There were a lot of veggies, and a lot of feta cheese. There was the equivalent of an infant's fist worth of feta cheese for a base. It definitely tasted great with some hot sauce. Would definitely come back here!

Omelette w/ spinach and bacon & home fries

Solid spot for a cheap and tasty breakfast, I had the omelette with spinach and bacon and as it should be it was almost falling apart with bacon - why is it always 3 eggs and not 2 as a standard? i'm not complaining (far from it) just something I ponder during breakfasts. Anyway the food was really good and huge portions to set you up well for the day, the only flaw on the food is its a little greasy, I know this is kind of a pre-requisite for breakfast but an omelette is something which doesnt need to be that way. Free re-fills on coffee too but its not good coffee but not bad bad either...its that kind of good crappy coffee you expect in a diner. PS - this is the opportunity for you cheapskates to pick up the bill, I was 'treated' to a 10$ meal as thanks for my picking up of the bill in The Keg the previous night *insert upside down smiley face* You win some, you lose some.

Are you looking for a place to get a super fast breakfast while also having it taste good? Why not try the Sunset Grill, where you'll probably be in and out in less then 30 minutes! That sounded like an advertisement, so let's try this again. I brought some of my friends from Connecticut here on Saturday morning while in search of a fast and filling breakfast. I can tell one of my friends was skeptical due to thinking all chains are terrible (he's yet to learn that Canadian chains are much different then American ones) but this place was able to prove him wrong. We came in around 9AM and it was super busy but we were able to get seated immediately. The waitress we had was super friendly, super helpful, and had a fantastic sense of humour. I decided to order some chocolate chip pancakes since I'm a child and need chocolate chips in as many things as possible. From the minute we ordered to the time we walked out the door, it could not of been more then 20 minutes! This place was lightening fast and had all 4 breakfast's in front of us in no time. My chocolate chip pancakes were very, very good and it was exactly what I was hoping for. You can't ask for much more then good service, good prices, and good food. I definitely recommend the Sunset Grill to anyone looking for some early morning grub!

Came here to visit the restaurant that sponsored my friend and I for the CN tower climb for United Way today. Service was helpful and responded well to my questions, even though the restaurant was very busy. Food was freshly made and served fast. I've wanted to come by for a while now, and they made my experience quite enjoyable.

This was similar to IHOP in my opinion but 10 times better! We got seated immediately and the food did not take long at all! My food was great - western omelette and French Toast. The breakfast potatoes were alright. After you're done, you take your receipt and pay up front. And we were able to get separate checks! Definitely would go back

Really crispy and delicious, they were definitely prepared well and hit the spot. I couldn't have asked for better hashbrowns. The buttermilk biscuits were also really fluffy and tasted good. No complaints here. The Hot Turkey French Toast however... I think they should remove this off the menu. We ordered it because it sounded interesting and we like to think of ourselves as adventurous foodies, but oh wow this was bad! We ate 2 bites each and couldn't eat more. Its just really dense and fatty and the gravy is way too overpowering and the flavors just don't go together. We were starving and hadn't eaten all day and couldn't get ourselves to eat more than 2 bites because we were frankly disgusted. It tasted really bad. DO NOT ORDER THIS. We came for a 2pm lunch on a Tuesday, and they told us the wait would be around 15-20mins which we said was fine. However, we ended up waiting 40mins, and we suspect that they let other people in front of us (told there were 2 parties of 2 in front of us but let in 3 parties). It gave diner vibes but was definitely more cramped. Was busier than I expected on a random Tuesday at 2pm. Low rating is for the awful main and the longer-than-promised wait time. But I do have to give them credit for the tasty apps. We might've just ordered the wrong thing on the menu but we're not coming back to find out, especially if the wait will always be this long.

The atmosphere was welcoming and had the classic charm you'd expect from a neighborhood favorite. Unfortunately, our experience didn't quite live up to the hype. The food was decent but fairly average. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing stood out as memorable either. The Irish breakfast was not Irish at all. For a place with such a strong reputation, I expected more flavor and attention to detail. The biggest disappointment was the service. The service was slow, they never checked on the table, and several requests (3 of the 5 drinks, syrup for the french toast, water refills) were either forgotten or took a long time to arrive. The restaurant wasn't especially busy, which made the lack of attentiveness even more noticeable. About 20 mins after we finished our food, we decided to head inside to pay and then our server noticed we left and accused us of walking on our tab but we had the payment receipt! I can see why some people may enjoy this spot, and perhaps I visited on an off day, but based on this experience, I found the food ordinary and the service well below expectations.

Sadly there was no chair for her to sit down on yet it didn't stop her from going to her regular spot for a Sunday brunch. She told me that she has been coming here for many years, even before it was called Sammy's. Has it been 30 years, she asked herself? Either way, she made it known that she is quite the regular. Very nice and friendly lady. These are the types of regulars that make the diner what it is. There is a sign in clipboard at the front, as soon as you walk in. You have to sign in as part of contact tracing in case there is an outbreak of COVID linked back to this establishment. Make sure you do not block the pathway from behind the bar, I didn't block it but a large family with several kids needed a place to stand in line and wait for a big table, because servers will get very mad at you and tell you "I NEED TO GET BY! DON'T BLOCK THE WAY!" But there is no where to stand when the lineup is 20 people deep. This is something to think about once the weather gets colder and there is a long lineup out the door. Perhaps takeout would be a better option than to be yelled at by the short haired waitress with tattoos? While I did not mind waiting and I had a book to occupy my time in the lineup and at the table before I was given the menu, I could see that this was obviously a rush time, prime time lunchtime at the diner, maybe others might be a little more impatient than me? I could watch a snail crawl for hours, patience is a virtue. The wait is very long to get seated and even longer to get food. While the food was pretty good, and the other server was very friendly, attentive and nice, I think they were short staffed that day and nothing is ever as instant as fast food. My advice would be to go here when you have the time to wait. Don't come here if you are in a rush. It's better to only come here when you have lots of time to wait.
