If you own a home in South City or Saint Louis in general, it's likely you'll need to repoint your…read morehouse at sometime. That being said, if you decide to do it yourself, head to F.W. Clemens! Otherwise, make sure your contractor or professional of choice uses products supplied from F.W. Clemens. For the love of god, do not buy mortar from Home Depot or Lowe's for your gorgeous Saint Louis home. The mortar they sell is too hard for our soft brick homes. This will lead to your bricks spalling and cracking. Go to F.W. Clemens and they will walk you through what you need. They are always friendly, and will explain what product is best for you by asking the right questions. They also have trowels, and raker joints available for fair price. A bag of historic mortar dry mix is about $5. They also sell plaster, and sealants for brick! This is your one-stop masonry shop. If it's your first time visiting, park on Cherokee and walk through the gates/warehouse and you'll see a sign for the "office" building. Once you walk in, you'll see the desk and they will be more than happy to help! They also load up your bags of heavy mortar in your car for you, which is awesome if you're not used to picking up 50lb+ compact bags mortar that are not the easiest to handle. One thing to note is since F.W. Clemens serves mostly masonry professionals, their hours reflect this. They open early and close early (7am-330pm), and they are only open Monday - Friday. I'm not docking their rating for this because that's silly, and they would probably lose money by staying open longer. They are a small operation that has been around for almost 150 years, and that's pretty cool consider our Saint Louis homes are that age or younger!

I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO F.W. CLEMENS!!!!!!! If you all knew how many companies I called to…read moredo what they simply dthey simply done you wouldn't believe me.. I've called a few companies before them and if the customer service didn't suck everything else went down here as well for such a simple task. The young lady who answered the phone BEAUTIFUL!!!! She listened to what I needed, guided me in the right direction and was very patient to the fact that I had NO KNOWLEDGE in what I was asking for. The way they fit me in in a timely fashion and the gentleman who delivered my order was here early in the morning before Jesus woke up. He unloaded the rock and was so professional, polite and helpful. This company really puts those 2 other companies to shame and I thank them for their professionalism, they're customer service and they're great product. Stay great!!!! Reach out to this company, you will not be disappointed. They are PHENOMENAL from the beginning to the end!!! Thank you guys

I get a strong feeling I'm not wanted in the area. At the time I took the picture of the desk salesman I was minding my business waiting for another outside salesman to bring me some products I had requested. I felt this guy staring at me while I was social searching on the internet. The energy seemed to be super strong which made me switch to Yelp to check in and take a photo. When I switch to take the photo as you can see he's looking at me with contempt for what reason i have no idea. He was not helping me nor should his focus have been on me. But it's menacing and unwelcoming and makes me want to not come to the location. It's depressing and sad to get this type of energy from customer sales people in 2022. Which is difficult to give 4 stars with that type of experience. However I know that if I have a bad start it would be reflected on my ability to keep my employment. You tell me what does it look like Jed thinking as he is looking at me and I wasn't even paying him no mind to I felt that negative energy.

It was like walking through an awesome quirky museum of americana, but keep in mind that I love old signs. Definitely check out the outdoor area, which has a neat little bridge and is filled with trinkets, statues and cool signs, including a few hotel/motel signs. Yeah, I would live there.

The Purple Cow is my favorite because there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of rhyme or reason for what's in the shop, but the randomness makes sense once you're in there! A few of the Purple Cow's specialties include: - A huge collection of vintage postcards, kept in old library card catalog drawers. I love to sift through them and see what vacation spots used to look like. And it's fun to read the used ones...see what kinds of messages people used to send to loved ones back in the day. - Antique hardware. If you're in the market for hooks, pulls or doorknobs, this might be the place for you. They usually don't come in sets, so if you like an eclectic aesthetic, that's a perfect place to purchase items for your house. - Signs. There's a huge, neon parrot sign that I inquired about. It's not for sale, but most of the signs are. There's old street signs, signs advertising products and a random arrow that directs people to the restroom. - There's also a large bookshelf of sports memorabilia near the register. Personally, sports anything doesn't pique my interest. But my boyfriend, who's an avid baseball card collector, said that the collection was pretty interesting. On my first visit, I purchased a framed "paint by numbers" of a ship at sea for our new apartment. It cost $5 and hangs on the wall next to a framed President Garfield on our entry room wall. If that gives you any indication of what kinds of antiques I'm into, then you'll understand why I love the Purple Cow.
