Upon reaching out for services, I encountered a receptionist, Lynne, or onboarding staff member who exhibited inflexibility and lacked clarity regarding the availability of days for my dog's care. Despite claiming to be "almost at capacity on Tuesdays and Thursdays," they were evasive about providing alternative days, showing a prioritization of their convenience over accommodating paying customers like myself. Moreover, they failed to establish a designated time for pickup or drop-off, leaving me to initiate communication for this vital information. Their response indicated a vague pickup window of "probably between 9:45 and 10:15." On the day of service, despite providing my precise address, including apartment number, and contact number well in advance, I received a call from the receptionist at 10:38 a.m., exceeding the initially provided pickup window. By the time I reached the designated spot, the driver, who coincidentally was also the owner Neal, had already departed. Upon contacting the receptionist, I was met with the explanation that the driver "waited for a second and then had to leave because he was on schedule." However, their scheduling should have allowed for minor delays, especially considering the substantial one-hour pickup windows already established. Furthermore, the receptionist attempted to shift blame onto me, stating that the driver was unaware of my apartment complex and lacked my direct contact information. This assertion is unfounded, as I had provided detailed information including my apartment number, and the receptionist had my contact details on record. Their refusal to take responsibility and insistence on blaming the customer instead of acknowledging their organizational shortcomings is disappointing, particularly for a business claiming 20 years of experience. As this incident occurred on our first day of service, I expected a modicum of grace and professionalism. However, the receptionist's conduct and subsequent blame-shifting left much to be desired. Their assumption that all customers reside in single-family homes further underscores their lack of consideration for varying circumstances. Based on this experience, I cannot in good faith recommend this business, and I am relieved that my dog was not subjected to their care. Update to review: I received an email from the owner, Neal, with an apology about the incident and not seeing the apartment number. We brought our dog Wagz to Duxbury Animal Hospital in May 2024 when he was clearly unwell -- not…read moreeating, low energy, and visibly deteriorating. We saw two different doctors across two visits (Monday and Wednesday of the same week). Both felt something abnormal in his abdomen, and both were fixated on the idea that he had eaten something that was stuck -- despite the fact that X-rays showed no such obstruction. No other explanations were considered. After performing full bloodwork and diagnostics on Monday, they repeated the exact same tests again on Wednesday. This not only added significantly to our bill, but in hindsight, feels like a clear indication that the initial work-up wasn't thorough enough. Especially troubling is that Wagz's bloodwork showed elevated calcium and kidney levels -- markers that should have raised concern. Less than 24 hours after our second appointment, we brought Wagz to the emergency room. The ER doctor identified swollen lymph nodes within minutes, suspected cancer, and referred us to oncology. He was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma and required three days of emergency hospitalization. Duxbury now claims his lymph nodes weren't swollen on Monday or Wednesday -- something we find extremely hard to believe, given how quickly they were detected by another clinician less than 24 hours later. At the very least, the combination of red flags -- the exam findings, abnormal labs, and how sick he looked -- should have led to more urgency and better guidance. After his diagnosis, we reached out to Duxbury hoping they might show some compassion -- especially given the duplicated tests, the financial toll of delayed care, and the painful experience of watching our young dog get sicker while we chased the wrong answers. Instead, they stood by their process and offered a $250 credit for future services -- a gesture that felt not only inadequate, but tone-deaf. We're not trying to assign blame. We understand medicine is complex, and diagnoses can be difficult. But the lack of accountability -- and more importantly, the absence of real empathy -- was deeply disappointing. Our family is now navigating a heartbreaking diagnosis we can't change, but what could have been different was the way we got here -- and the three-day ER stay that might have been avoided if things had been handled differently. We're sharing this because other families deserve to know what we went through. Duxbury's reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and we're not here to discredit that -- but if we had read a story like ours, we might have made different decisions. And that's why we believe this experience is worth sharing. _______________________________________________________________ Update: Our Response to the Owner's Comment We appreciate your response, though we're disappointed by the lack of acknowledgment of the specific concerns we raised. Our issue was never about misunderstanding how referrals work, but about the decisions made during our visits that ultimately delayed critical care for our dog, Wagz. To clarify: - The same diagnostics were performed twice in one week without any change in care direction. - Elevated kidney and calcium levels were missed, which the ER team immediately recognized as significant. - Both Duxbury doctors felt something abnormal in his abdomen, yet continued to focus on a possible obstruction despite clear x-rays--no consideration was given to other explanations like swelling or cancer. - Less than 24 hours after our second visit, an ER vet--not an oncologist--diagnosed Wagz with likely lymphoma within minutes of examination, based on severely enlarged lymph nodes. We reached out not to assign blame, but to express how devastating it was to face a three-day ICU stay and large emergency costs--expenses that could have been avoided with earlier action. The offer of a future credit felt out of touch given our experience and our dog's condition. We're not here to argue, only to share our experience so others can decide for themselves. The day that we brought him home, he played for about 3 hours with our next door neighbor's dog nonstop. He did not bark a single time. We brought him to this daycare for the first time on June 2nd for a trial, the folks here told us when we picked him up that he was awesome and had such a good day playing with the other dogs. 2nd visit we were asked to pick him up because there were worms discovered in his poop. No problem. Finn was treated and today we went back for his third visit. Wife got a call to come pick him up because he wanted to play too much. Owner told her that Finn did not know "how to read the room". Finn wanted to play and when the other dogs did not want to play, Finn continued to try to get them to play. WHAT??. I thought that we sent our dogs to daycare to play. Finn is not an aggressive dog. He has a lot of energy but is not a problem dog. He wants to play with other dogs. When my wife went to pick him up, there was an issue getting a refund. What? He was there for less than an hour. While she was working with the staff to understand what was happening, she asked Finn to sit. He did immediately and sat there until she was done talking to the owner. Not sure what is going on here, but we will not be back.

We have had terrible experiences at two other local kennels, but that was not the case here. Our dog who is a large Belgian Malinois has stayed here on two separate occasions and I can say without a doubt that I would not board him anywhere else. Owners are upfront and were sure to tell me about a very small rub on his nose when I picked him up. In the past when staying at other kennels he had displayed nervous behaviors such as not eating and chewing on himself to the point where he is raw. Neither of these issues occurred when he has stayed at the Country Groomer in Carver leading me to believe that it is a much less stressful environment. Both the owner and her husband are friendly and professional. The prices per day are reasonable in comparison to other kennels as well. I highly recommend them if you are looking for to board your dog while you are away.
