Receptionist does not have a price list and I have no idea how much an office visit it would even be. I was quoted $500 for a mamma cat and 4 babies to have an office visit. Vetrinary clinic would not quote spay or neuter pricing without a 1st visit appointment. The only good thing I can report is that they do allow early/spay neuter for kittens. It is difficult to find a vet clinic that will do that so if the office visit pricing wasn't so ridiculous, I would definitely go here. read more

I started taking my cats here and had a good experience initially that went downhill quickly. They were great with the treatment and care of my kitten and I was really impressed during that time, but when I brought my older cat in, it was a different story. The older cat was vomiting and, it turns out, simply had a food allergy, but when she was seen, Dr. Petersen said she suspected it was cancer and immediately quoted me $3000 for testing. It's doesn't take a genius to figure out this heavy-handed approach is motivated by profit and not the in the best interest of the cat or owner. Of course, being upset and emotional at my beloved cat's sickness, it was hard to see the truth, but in retrospect, it feels very much like I was being taken advantage of in a vulnerable situation. Secondly, during the time of COVID, we cats owners cannot be in the examination room with our pets. Therefore, their behavior while being examined is anyone's guess. I felt like I was being scolded for my cat's aggression while she was justifiably scared. Calling your business "Just Cats," you'd think these so-called professionals would understand that a domesticated cat can revert to wild instincts when they are scared or threatened. That isn't my pet's fault nor my fault. You can't treat people like this and expect to keep clients. read more

I took my cat here for 8 years and initially felt welcome, my cat well considered and cared for...Dr. Sikule was great! Frankly I think they got too big...opened a second office in Saratoga with a nice staff, but I didn't see Dr. Sikule again...heard her on a call in show, but no sign in offices. I have an anxious cat (hissy, growls, but no bite or claw) -- all talk & squirm. He was labeled as aggressive and I was asked to handle him...one staffer said they were afraid of being bitten. So 'Just Cats' was afraid of a cat? Strike 1. He lost 4 lbs in 5 months and when his expensive bloodwork and fecal came back normal, after waiting over a week and calling them back, they wanted more blood tests. Strike 2 for taking so long, me having to follow-up after being told they would, and for wanting me to out the cat through more as the only option presented. They like to test, test, test, costing a lot of money and a lot of upset for the animal. Never a discussion of less invasive options (or cheaper). Got second opinion from another vet. She listened, suggested a few options, including changing food as he may have developed an allergy/intolerance (he's9). That did the trick -- less stressed cat, out on healthy weight! So Strike 3! Unfortunately, this vet no longer delivers the level of care I expect for their prices and specialty and lack of empathy for cat or guardian. Happily, my new vet is accommodating, does not believe in test, test, test and almost half the price for conscientious care. read more

We've brought each of our cats here over three years. The doctors and techs are always very kind and very thorough with examinations. Everything is explained in a way that was clear and not overly technical. The office is clean and the staff is professional. We had to put one of our older cats down and the vet was very kind. They made sure that she did not suffer and took a few minutes to counsel us about the decision. And they are very empathetic toward stressed out clients who are trying to absorb a lot of information. Yes, the services can be expensive, but vets have to eat, clean, purchase updated information and pay staff. I feel like I get what I pay for and then some. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I decided to take my two cats here at the beginning of 2019. At first, everything seemed OK. At my first appointment, I was told that both of my cats needed dental cleanings. During my one cat's cleaning, I received a call that they needed to shave a tooth down, so I said please go ahead. Almost 6 months after, I noticed that the same tooth they shaved down has tooth resorption. The tooth should have been pulled, not shaved down. While all of this is going on, my other cats started to get black wax in her ears. After 3 appointments, they finally did a culture test and found that it was caused by a yeast infection. They gave me a saline solution ear wash that said it should fix it. They also cleaned her ears causing them to bleed for hours after and claimed that it was "normal." After 2 more visits and $1,000.00 later, her ears were still bothering her and the issue was not resolved. I decided to take matters into my own hands and get a second opinion. The second vet said that the saline based solution would not resolve a yeast infection, that I needed a microbial solution to fight the infection. Every follow up visit I had for the same unresolved ear issue, I was charged a $110.00 emergency visit fee, on top of whatever BS "treatment" they were providing. I am disgusted by the lack of care and their inability to to prescribe the correct things to resolve my cats issues. They may seem professional, but they are scamming you. read more

We were provided with a lot of information about cats general health. Due to the COVID19 pandemic we were obviously not able to go into the office. Dr. Kurzel was on the phone with us for over half an hour during our cats initial appointment. We did not feel pushed into any services/treatment and felt we had the right to determine what treatment to pursue. We were offered supplements to treat some issues opposed to actual prescriptions, which was nice. The pricing was fair. We regret not going here sooner. We will never go back to our previous vet. No question, if you have a cat, you should be taking them here. For a referral, I hadn't taken my cat ever to just cats. However, he came down with a terrible illness while I was away on vacation with my dad taking care of him. He had a urethral blockage, wouldn't eat or move. We called just cats, and they met my dad at the apartment, recognized that ash needed serious medical attention immediately. They took him to their place, and started getting him better. We rushed home, and they helped us get him into a vet hospital so he could get proper care over a weekend (because they don't have 24/7 medical staff which is fair for a small place). They gave him amazing treatment, and are the reason I got to keep my little furball. Beyond that, considering the work they did, the cost was very reasonable. Since then, we bring him in for regular visits, and though he doesn't like the place, they still treat him like their own cat. These people legitimately love cats, and it shows every time I go there. All the docs are top notch, and the other workers are also really nice. Service is fast too! Do I have a bad thing to say....no. They're awesome. Go there. read more

Pay close attention to the negative reviews here and avoid this vet at all costs. They are inhumane, uncompassionate, and greedy. My cat had always had an extraordinary dislike of this vet at regular exams, but I chalked it up to being a new vet to her and ignored it. The one time my cat did have a real health problem, just cats really mistreated both my cat and myself. They insisted on keeping my cat without my supervision despite the fact that I brought them the only urine sample that needed to be analyzed. They ran completely unnecessary and expensive tests, and clipped all of my cats nails (back too) despite my explicit instruction that this not be done. My cat was drugged and angry even hours later. They had to do all this to get a (extra?) urine sample, which was all they needed to analyze to confirm a diagnosis i already basically knew? I think not. They are a really lousy group and should go into a line of work they are more suited for. I would not take my cat here even if she was dying, I feel like they'd just accelerate the process, torture the cat along the way, and charge me a few grand for the whole indignity. Oh and by the way, one of the techs had the nerve and poor taste to make derogatory comments to me about my cat. Very unprofessional. When I left, I saw a staffer crying in the back of the parking lot. I had the feeling that she sees all kinds of awful things go on there and is one of the few who actually still had a heart and feels bad about the way they treat cats and their owners. I will never go back here and hope no one else does either. Worst vet I have ever been to. Don't be fooled by the "just cats" concept... They don't seem to even like cats and cats really seem to not like them either. And there's not even basic professionalism, courtesy, and integrity here. Go anywhere else. read more

Imagine being able to take your sick kitty to the vets, and not having to worry about some DOG lunging at her. Imagine being able to sit in a vet's waiting room and not have to listen to some DOG barking. Cats only! What a treat. However... this exclusivity does not come at a discount. You can probably find lower prices elsewhere. But I'm happy enough with the whole package (good doctors, kind and friendly staff, dog-free waiting room) that it's worth it. I also like that they help keep local feral cats from reproducing by working with the non-profit SCRUFF (Spaying Capital Region Unowned Feral Felines). If I'm not mistaken, Dr. Sikule was a founding member. They also work to get cats adopted, and you can usually meet an adoptable lovely or two lounging in the waiting room. read more

I've been taking my two cats to Just Cats for over 7 years now, and I am very pleased with my experience there. Most importantly, it's the only vet I know that focuses exclusively on cats. Consequently, they definitely know their stuff... and are very adept at handling my rightfully ticked off cats (cause, seriously, who would like to be shoved into a crate, driven to some undisclosed location, and then poked and prodded... my cats probably think they're part of an annual alien abduction). My only two issues are the cost (a bit pricey) and the wait (I often have to schedule an appointment a month out or more). Oh, and not for nothing, but my friend's wife is a vet tech, and she recently agreed that Just Cats is a very quality option. All in all, I definitely recommend Just Cats. read more

PLEASE, DO NOT GO HERE! We just moved up to the Albany area. We got two cats who are around 8 years old. I noticed one of our cats teeth didn't look right- so I looked up the best rated cat vet and this one came up. I brought my cat in and was told that her teeth looked "pretty bad" and that she has gingivitis. They updated her shots, charged me 300$, told me I'd need to schedule a dental cleaning (but can't right now, because of covid) and sent me on my way. No antibiotics, nothing. We found a lump on our other cat, so we brought her in, scheduled a surgery and had it removed. No check ups on her post-op whatsoever in her two week healing time, and it took an actual week to get a call back after I received an email stating the results from pathology were in. At her appointment the doctor read the results from the lab. None in plain English. The tumor was malignant, I asked what we should do from here on out regarding my cats treatment & was told that I'd get a call back in a few days because she needed to make a few phone calls - again. I received an email stating that I should go see a specialist. We're on borrowed time and I'm not getting any answers. Theres one particular staff who I didn't catch her name who stormed out saying she couldnt reach me on the phone for the appointment, and kept repeating that my phone needs to be on?? It was. She was absolutely nasty. Needless to say I will NEVER be doing business here again. It's just been one bill after another and my cats are in the same health. We have been bringing our cats to Just Cats for 15 years. Recently our cat was sick and couldn't hold food down. Called and they gave a song and dance about them calling me back with an appointment for next business day, a Monday and this was Friday. No call back and when I called them just before closing was told nothing was available on Monday. I then asked for next available and was told booked solid for the entire next week. I reminded the receptionist that they were my cat's vet and got a non answer. Have since found a new vet and even if we were still looking would not feel comfortable entrusting them with the care of our cat. My 9 year old cat developed sudden and severe open oozing sores on her face, neck, feet and torso. Being a cat mom for 44 years, I never seen this before. I brought the cat to her regular vet. They examined her and told me she had a food allergy and to change her food. They also gave me an antibiotic. I treated her with the antibiotic for 5 days with no improvement. I decided to get a 2nd opinion. That's when I called Just Cats. They saw her condition and immediately got her in same day. The examination was very thorough. The ulcers were scraped, blood was drawn, culture was done, biopsy was done, steroid injection was given, and she was sent home with additional steroids. The veterinarians were so professional, so caring, so kind. They never met or this cat, but the concern they showed was outstanding. The work they did was what she needed for both immediate relief and to get to the root cause of the sores. That was yesterday. This morning, this cat is a totally different cat. I can tell she is much more comfortable. Her sores even look dry rather than oozing. I can't thank these doctors enough. I look forward to finding out what exactly is causing this so that we can hopefully cure it. I highly recommend Just Cats. Not only are the doctors awesome, but the office staff is also the best I have dealt with in a long time. They show the same care, compassion and professionalism as the doctors. Both of my cats had ear mites and I called one morning to see if I could get them in that day. Here is how the call went: Me- Hello, can I bring in my cats today to be treated for ear mites? JC- I don't think so, let me check. JC- What is your name so I can see who I'm dealing with? Me- gave them my name JC- No you can't come in because I haven't seen your cats in 2 years Me-Why can't you see my cats today? JC- (annoyed tone) Because I haven't seen them in 2 years and it's a short week! Me- hung up Apparently they won't look at my cats until an exam of both of them is done...Translation-$$$$. This is how I was spoken to when I called about being concerned about my animals and getting them some relief. It was a flat out NO and the tone of the woman on the other end was a bit condescending regarding my cats not being examined in 2 years. My cats were healthy up to this point and Just Cats was not willing to alleviate their ear mites because they wanted more money before treating them both. You don't have to be a vet to figure out that your cats have ear mites. That's the last time I take them to that place. read more

After consulting with my friends, local neighbors, and hanging out at Pet Smart. I decided to try Just Cats. Let me just begin by saying that one of my cats finds it quite stressful to have dogs barking at him while we are in the waiting room in NYC. Well, not here! At Just Cats it is a calm and inviting waiting room. The staff is remarkably friendly, and they truly took their time listening to all of my concerns. Was not in such great spirits the first time, but they were so understanding about my trepidation on my move, and on finding a new vet. Today was my second time there... My older cat has never looked better! Dr. Tommell & Dr. Sikule are extraordinary veterinarians. Their house visits are wonderful. THEY KILLED MY CAT!!! Just Cats treats their patients as exactly that... Just a cat, but Puma was my baby.He was a 17 year old indoor cat needing a checkup and simple bloodwork. I didn't like taking him to the clinic because he was so skiddish. The vet and her assistant made a house call. They insisted on "muzzling" him with towels to calm him, but instead manhandled him. Just Cats is great! My kitty, Fetty Wap, loves going to the vet. All the staff give him so much attention and love, it's comforting to see. As we were leaving, any employee that passed him said goodbye to him. Fetty ate it up! I just got Fetty spayed this week and I was nervous about how he would handle it all. She takes an Holistic approach to medicine and always try's to aid in your pets health and recovery using the most natural methods. Yes the are expensive but they offer the BEST care for your cats. i was not happy with how my experience went. I arrived at 11 with my 15 1/2 year old cat who was bleeding in his mouth from a rodent ulcer. My regular vet was closed. it took 25 minutes to drive there and my cat pooped in his carrier. I did my best to clean him up and asked to have something more to clean him as the paper towels weren't cutting it. he was trying to clean himself. The focus here is NOT on your cat - it is on the bill. The vet emphasized cost more than anything else. Blood work was more expensive done in house etc. Spent more time talking about pricing of procedures than attending to my cat. I asked why the blood pressure would cost $40 and was told "I don't set prices I just work here". I continued to request something to get my cat cleaned up. They sent the receptionist in with an estimate of cost....after the vet tech came in and again went over cost. I told the vet tech I was not concerned with an estimate. What a nightmare. It took over an hour and a half before anyone actually did anything for my cat. The vet tech was very good with him. She stood out as concerned for my cat. It was a mistake to go there. The vet has been there since February....did not inspire any confidence. read more

Just Cats and everyone associated with the office totally outstanding! We had 4 cats and went there without any reference at all when we moved from CO to Voorheesvile. We loved there being only cats and our kitties not being frightened by woofers. Everyone was very caring and compassionate. As time went by we had to euthanize several kitties as they aged or were terminal and they were there for us. And they even make house calls - so very, very convenient. Now we live in TX and have to go back with the woofers! We do miss Just Cats!!! Thank you Dr. Sikule and your staff. You set the standard to meet - the bar is set very, very high. Outstanding! Wow. Took my girl in with an issue. I'm out $300+ with no resolution or even a suggestion towards a resolution. I know what my girl doesn't have. Is that helpful to me? No. Keep in mind if you bring your kitty here, it is a business. This place does not take a conservative approach. Tests were ordered that in the end, I feel were not necessary. I felt I was coerced into having tests done because it could be this scary thing or that scary thing. One test would have told me if the subsequent tests were actually needed. If you have to leave your cat for any amount of time here, do not expect the Vet to come out and give you the results or treatment plan. You'll only see the assistant. I guess the $300 plus fee doesn't include an exit conversation with the Vet. As in any part of the medical field, running tests is a HUGE money maker for the business. Keep in mind if you decide to go to this practice ..bring a fat checkbook and a line of credit from your mortgage. read more

I recently moved to the area and needed to bring my incredibly skiddish cat in to get checked out. I called and they gave me advice on how to get her into her kennel safely. They gave me some Feliaway (kitty pheromones) that helped ease her anxiety. It was very kind of them! When I took my cat in for her check up, the one receptionist wasn't friendly but the other one was, thankfully. The veterinary assistant was sweet as could be! I really liked her. The vet herself was also very nice. She took the time to explain things in a way that I could understand. At the end of the visit, I did have a to wait a while for the paperwork and to get cashed out. I wasn't in a hurry though, so it didn't bother me. I recommend this clinic. They were nice and the place was clean. read more

Just cats was recommended by a friend and we have been extremely happy with the care given to our cat. The staff we have encountered have been friendly, highly skilled and compassionate. The vet always explains what she is doing to the cat, and addresses our concerns. We are able to get appointments quickly. I have been going to Just Cats for about 20+ years and Dr. Sikule has been my only Vet for my 6 cats. I see that there are some unfortunate situations noted here. I hope people reading these understand that cats are not machines and the people taking care of them are human and there will be incidents that are unpredictable. So before you rush to a decision about this practice you need to look at Dr Sue's entire body of work. She is dedicated, tireless, and mostly she is compassionate. She works between two practices does house calls and founded a very important charity called"SCRUFF" which is the only animal charity that addresses the root cause of over population of cats. I started going to Just Cats because it was exclusive for cats But I am still going there because the level of care I have received over the years from the staff who are professional and caring and especially from Dr.Sikule. I am writing this review to thank her for my recent situation with my beloved Tony, he was the best cat ever and my best friend. Dr. Sue knew what a difficult time I was having making an excruciating decision. She and her staff were amazing to me throughout this worst time. Dr. Sue took my many calls to answer my questions she worked with me to offer me options and patiently and kindly let me know it was okay to let him go. What impressed me was I know Dr. Sikule has dealt with having to euthanize many cats but for me she was as compassionate as if Tony were her own pet. I am truly heartbroken and miss my Tony terribly but in the end having people like Dr. Sikule and her staff made all the difference and that to me is most important in choosing who will take care of my special pets. Brought our 13 year old cat here in March, after we saved enough money to cover their always high prices. Our cat was limping on his right front foot. The one Vet (not the Owner) felt around and said it was arthritis; then took a blood test (and said his kidney was failing) and gave us some pain "treats". Over $200. The cat got worse and it really appeared to be awfully painful; he wouldn't eat much. Brought him again in late May; same Vet, same diagnosis...the Vet Tech felt around and said she thought the one shoulder was bigger than the other; took an x-ray and the same Vet said it was arthritis and maybe a small growth; wanted to give us more pain treats and some other med...$270! I complained loudly and asked for the Owner (who we should have asked for this time). She came out and took the cat into an exam room and, in about 10 seconds, said she felt a large mass in the shoulder...looked at the x-ray and confirmed that it was. I was so upset by then, since the other Vet was so incompetent...2 months ago and twice this visit AND that the Vet Tech had to raise a question to find this. They ended up charging me $77 for the x-ray and said they could remove the mass...and the shoulder...huh? I left nearly in tears from the lack of compassion (told me all this in the waiting area. I am checking the credentials of that Vet and cannot imagine how many people have had their cats misdiagnosed here and been sucked dry in the process. This is NOT your hometown vet clinic; it's BIG business. The Owner started out with a great plan and, somewhere along the way, let it turn into a cookie-cutter vet assembly line. By the way, suddenly the urgent kidney issue disappeared. If you love your cat; look around and elsewhere for care...the typical routine visits can be done by anyone (at a lot cheaper prices) and, when you have a potentially serious issue, you want to find it early and correctly. Seriously, search around and visit a few places...look for honest reviews, like this one and do not dismiss the bad ones. read more
