Quin sucks. Unclear on the rules about jumping off the small cliff. Tried to wave for his attention before we jumped so we wouldn't get in trouble. Instead of waving us back or trying to get our attention, he took pictures. If it was such a safety hazard you should probably do everything to prevent it instead of doing nothing about it in the moment and then kicking us off. 36 days sober tho!!! 10k hours. read more

Our group of 4 had a great experience renting a pontoon. Now don't go looking for 5 star, red carpet service. It's no frills, but the staff is friendly and they give you what you need for a good time. We are not experienced boaters, but that wasn't an issue because the staff provided a quick training on how to drive the boat. Unlike many other company's renting boats in the area, you can rent for an hour if you want. Many other require 3-4 hour minimums, which can get pricey, especially if you'd prefer a short excursion. There is free parking there and the pontoon we rented had a bluetooth system for playing music too. You can't beat their prices, so overall value is A+ in my book. If I'm in the ATX area again, I'll return. read more

We had a great time! My wife has been wanting to get on a boat and spend time in the water. She found this location, reserved the water craft, and off we went. We started out early... the 7 of us, and found the place with no issue. (Warning: Do not park in the gravel lots below the hill... they say you will get towed!) there is plenty of parking and then a small walk down the hill and to the docks. Lake Travis is beautiful!! As expected this place was busy!! Fun in the sun comes at a price and one of those prices is a wait! A wait to get everything signed for, a wait for one of the only two single person bathrooms, a wait to go over all rules and instructions, etc! So get here early if you want to get out in time! If you eat up some of your reservation while waiting you do not get to add it back on. The reservation time slot is your slot... that's it. We got here early and actually got in the water early... SCORE... an extra 15 minutes... yea! My wife and kids wanted to tube and knee board so we got a ski boat that holds 8 people. (Rental for tube and knee board is 5$ per hour each) the guy loaded us up, went through instructions and rules and off we went! (Really nice guy!) We had a 4 hour slot on the water from 10:30 to 2:30. We didn't squander one second of it... had our cooler packed with all kinds of edibles and drinks, we were sun screened up, life vests locked on the boys (all kids under 13 have to wear a vest at all times!) and wind in our hair... WE HIT IT! Warning... the ski boat is a bit small... and a lot fast... if the water is as choppy as it was while we were here... I really recommend a pontoon or a bigger speed boat... it was hairy at times out in the open! (Note: they don't allow pulling tubes from a pontoon boat though) I found us a cove that was at the time not busy, was protected from the chop mostly, and big enough to have some fun. My wife, our friend, and our boys had a blast tubing around and around in the cove. Then we went further in, parked and swam for about an hour. What a fantastic day! Seriously worth every single penny... everyone from father and mother in law to my 4 year old had a great time. The boat was new, fast, and even had Bluetooth so it synced to my phone and we played toons all day long. It was a beautiful day filled with fun fun fun! For most of us... 4 hours on the lake was just perfect. The boys were wiped out by the time we left and so were most of the adults! What a great way to spend a day! I have to say I had a blast out on the lake! I rented 2 wave runners and reserved them for 2 hours. Check in was quick. They got our runners ready pretty quick and after a brief run down we were off. Rode up and down the lake and had such a great time. Weather was beautiful ended up turning my runner off in safe waters away from boats and hopped in the lake for a dip. Staff was friendly and I would absolutely rent from them again. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was cuz the runners were not the newest but honestly they didn't matter cuz those things were fast!!!!! Thank you guys and I will ABSOLUTELY be back. read more

A group of us went out here and rented one of the party boats at Lake Austin! It was a phenomenal time with friends out there. Just bring your ice chest full of your favorite drinks and they'll take care of the rest. once on board and the boat starts making its way to cruise the lake.... the party has started. The music kicks on and its time to crack your drinks open. You'll arive to your destination where the boat will tie up to an island and the gates open up to start sliding down or jumping off into the water. You can explore the little island as well. well into the party, they light up the grills and start putting together some bbq burgers!!! We'd definately go here again! Great times! read more

Just For Fun ROCKS LAKE TRAVIS!!! Hubby rented a pontoon boat for my birthday celebration (big-time bonus points this year!). Funny, my older teenager initially squawked at it being 4 hours ("that seems like a long time"). Hahaha to him: We all thought time sped up because we had so much fun and left wanting more time on the lake! Our visit was a Thursday during COVID-19. Just For Fun folks at the counters wore masks, some of the dock folks did (some didn't, but they weren't really ever close to anyone bc they were receiving/getting boats ready - away from other people). It was moderately busy, but check-in was swift and easy. Our pontoon boat was awesome. Before we departed, they go over controls, safety, and a propeller check (this was similar to inspecting a rental car before driving away - our propeller had some damage, so we were delighted to have identified it with him prior to departing... Be sure to take a close look bc it was initially questioned upon return, but quickly dismissed because of the prior inspection). I suggest making sure you have a map of the lake. But funny, older teenager pulled up his GPS to be more specific than mom reading the map, lol! We brought a picnic dinner, snacks, & drinks. We anchored at several locations to swim. The water was heavenly (& awesome visibility! Lake Travis is awesome for swimming/anything water-related). COVID-19 is likely why the lake wasn't more busy. I can't/don't want to imagine it being much more busy... As in, I'm glad we celebrated TODAY/a Thursday vs waiting for the weekend! We saw a sailing school, wakeboarders, tubers, skiers, swimmers, jet skiers, parasurfers, windsurfers, sailboats, party boats moored at the island, and a few fishermen. A little slice of heaven being enjoyed by so many! Just For Fun offers party barges, pontoon boats, ski boats, personal watercrafts (jet skis/waverunners), and pretty much any desired accessories (tubes, etc). The staff was friendly, helpful, professional, and informative. Their prices blow away others (as in, why look elsewhere unless they don't have what you want). Literal moment in the planning: I saw higher ratings of different places on Yelp. Being that hubby & I are long-time Austinites, he merely remembered & called Just For Fun without my input... I'm so glad that I didn't say a word about ratings: Just For Fun should be amongst the top tier. This outfit is a well-oiled machine. They know this business and they do it well! So grateful for this place! We placed a custom order for a boat and was bummed to find out we would not have it in time for Labor Day Weekend. We live in South Austin and did not have any luck locating a boat rental on Lake Austin that did not require you to have a captain, so we tried our luck at Lake Travis and were so excited to find this place! I made sure to make our reservation at least a month in advance as I assumed they would fill up and I thank Kaitlyn for all of her help. She was extremely professional and patient as things on my end got a little confusing and she helped me through the entire process. We were directed to arrive 30 minutes prior to our reservation and while we were on time, the return of our boat was not. It was no fault of the facility and due to the late arrival, Kaitlyn graciously extended our time to make sure we received the entire 3 hour rental that we paid for. The crew did a great job of disinfecting the inside of boat to make sure it was safe for us and although my husband knows how to power a boat, they still made sure to go over everything with him and I noticed they did the same with all of the other renters. The speed boat we rented was nice, although we kept having issues keeping our phone connected to the Bluetooth. Thank goodness we were smart enough to bring our own portable speaker. read more

Best party ever. My friend (who is great) got the brilliant idea to rent a party boat, and have her homies kick in $20 per person so we could party all day on Lake Travis. This is the best idea ever. Because TUBE SLIDE and BBQ!!! You will be safe: the crew is totally professional. You will not starve: there is a bbq grill on board. And please bring a ton of fluids so you do not get dehydrated. The few rules on the party boat are, be safe, stay hydrated, no glass containers, don't flush anything down the terlet, and have fun. Man did we have fun. We all brought food, cans of beer and jello shots, and swam and played all day. Some of the braver folks leaped off the second story of the party boat - one even did a somersault. We all used the tube slide. Oh joy that is a tube slide. The captain and his mate are major troupers, as they stayed vigilant (and disgustingly sober) all day, watching for wake from other boats, and neither of them blinked or even batted an eye at any of our antics - including our friend whose pants kept falling down (whoopsie!) in the general direction of another party boat, which from our vantage point looked nowhere near as fun or cool as OUR party boat. Do yourself a favor and get a bunch of friends out on this boat. You will love it. read more

We tried to show up early for our early bird special. Due to all sorts of circumstances, we were a bit late departing, but the guys helping us board were VERY kind to allow us a little extra time to make up for it (they were super slammed, too). The employees who checked us in at the desk were a little bit less sympathetic to our woes, but to their credit it was early AF on a Sunday morning and I sure wouldn't have been "all smiles" either if I had been in their shoes. Hopefully it was a sign that they have a Saturday night social life and were getting over an epic night of "blowing off some steam." We will definitely return for business next summer. We showed up late to our 11am jetski rental we had a some trouble finding the place, once we arrived we were told that I couldn't drive alone because I was born after September 1, 1993 so I would need a boating license. Kinda bummed but they were so accommodating for my partner and I. Kaitlyn at the front desk was so nice and very patient with us as we decided what to do. We ended up renting a boat which was honestly so much better! We did the boat rental from 12-2 because of the two hour minimum which was perfect! I can't remember what the guys name was who gave us our boat orientation but he was very nice also! I had such a wonderful time on the party barge!!! The captain did a good and fast safety briefing not too long that we lost interest but still covered all the bases. We had a wonderful time. The jump platform was a hoot and a half and it was super fun to sit on the lower deck and watch people jump off the top. There were plenty of life jackets available and some people were grabbing two to keep themselves afloat easier in the water. The slide was a ton of fun but it's very difficult to try and look graceful going down it. Maybe that's why it's so fun!! We all had a fantastic time and if you bring enough sunscreen you shouldn't have any complaints! read more

If I could leave zero Stars I would. First to start off with we got 20 minutes out and ready to Anchor. Only to find out that we did not have an anchor on the boat. So we had to drive 20 minutes back to get an anchor with an attitude from the owner. Then come to find out there was also an exposed wire and when bringing it to the owner's attention there was no concern. For the time and compensation that should have been provided there was nothing that was done and was refused any compensation for having to come back to acquire an anchor. From the safety hazards with the children that we had on the boat due to an exposed wire and the inconvenience of an hour to and from to get an anchor I do not recommend this place at all. Take your money elsewhere as I am going to do moving forward I've been renting here 4 over 2 years. From party barges pontoon boats and Jet Skis. Again take your business elsewhere! I just got home from one of their boat cruises and was looking forward to writing this review! We had a wonderful time on the cruise and would absolutely go on another one with this company. It went from 5:30p-9:30p so we had a beautiful breeze to cut the Texas heat and then views of the sunset on the way back in. The boat takes off for about 20min, docks so that you can swim and jump in the water for a few hours, and then goes back to the dock. The staff was friendly and the boat was clean. It was not cramped with people and the slide was a lot of fun. Ours was a double-decker with plenty of seating and tables. We had a ton of food and over 5 coolers of booze and it all fit comfortably. Thanks for an awesome evening! We had so much fun! The only reason why I gave them 4/5 starts is because the bathroom was a bit sub-par (females are always critical of bathrooms!) and they had no recycling bins on the boat Add some recycling and I'll change my review to 5/5! read more

Just know what you are getting into. They over rent space on their party barges so you may not have a place to sit down and if you do, it may be only on the upper deck with continuous sun beating down on you and no shade. There was no check made by the crew that passengers attend a short safety briefing prior to the barge leaving. A few passengers remained on the top deck and did not attend the safety briefing. There was no mention of life jackets made during the saftey briefing. There were only about 6 life jackets visible for over 50 passengers on board. If there were other life jackets, they were stored out of sight and access to the passengers. They had only one umbrella on the top deck which put shade only on an area between the barges not open to their passengers where their captain sat in the shade. He is no fool. Who wants to be stuck for hours in the hot sun with no shade. There also was no water provided. A safety issue. How much effort and cost would it be for Just For Fun to have water for their passengers. What if a passenger passed out due to heat stroke because Just For Fun oversold their space on their large barges forcing passengers to only be out in the sun and had no water. Their barges only go a short distance to an island where they park all their barges so you do NOT get a cruise on Lake Travis. Just a short ride on the water to an island where you spend most of your time. There is no place to go. Just stay on the boat tied to a cliff on a side of the island on the upper deck with no shade or less than 80 feet from the barge in the water. The ladder was not adequate for some passenger to use to get out of the water. A significant saftey issue. They put two barges together so they only have to use one grill for your one hamburger. A passenger fell down seriously hurting her foot, knee and ankle in the space between the two barges on the long slow moving line for hamburgers that stretched between both barges. They put their barges together with a float between the barges creating the space and creating a dangerous safety situation. There are likely boating safety or other rules or laws Just For Fun is violating that created the opportunity for this accident to occur. The injury could easily have been avoided by not creating an open space between the barges and Just For Fun not directing their passengers to walk across this dangerous open space. Just For Fun could have easily put a board or walkway over the open space between their two barges especially since they created a long, slow moving line to walk across this open space. What if wave came by while the person's leg was trapped down between the two large barges causing the person's ankle and leg to be crushed. The woman had a bleeding knee from an open cut and a badly swollen ankle from falling and having her leg trapped between the two large barges. There was no saftey, incident or accident report made. There was no first aid offered the injured woman. There was NO FIRST AID KIT on either of the two Just for Fun large barges. It would not be surprising to learn Just For Fun boating personnel are not trained or certified in first aid, CPR or boating safety. read more

I only deducted 1 star because our pontoon boat's engine kept making weird noises then dying. We took it in and they did something, I don't know what, and we were on our way again. Well, it happened again. This time one of the guys got on our boat after doing whatever he did and drove it around for a few minutes. No issues, so we were on our way again. We were good after that. They were very friendly, quick check in and check out. The boat was in great shape. And they gave me a voucher for 2 free hours during the week for my next rental to make up for the problems. Coasting along Lake Travis on a steadily moving 2 story boat, while looking out onto lush green hills and the picturesque rippling water - I felt at peace and content. Just For Fun is really what you make of it. The staff are laid back, professional, and very accommodating. We carted aboard Fred (the name of our lovely barge) water guns, music, beer, vodka, pizza, chips and more - and it was totally fine -just as long as we kept things under control and cleaned up after ourselves. Throughout our voyage - we lounged, danced, drank, ate, sun-tanned, sun-burned, jumped off the upper deck, jumped down the blue slide attached to the boat, bobbed in the water beside the boat and just rocked it up. It was ultimate bliss, and the weather and landscape cradled and padded our memories with nothing but happiness. I haven't gone swimming in forever. Bay area beaches are just too cold, and I've been a wuss all the other times. But I jumped in Lake Travis. And loved it. Feeling the splash of the cold water engulf me. My hair up on top of my head, revealing my pale shoulders in the blue water, as I adjusted the top of my borrowed bikini - I didn't want to leave Austin. I didn't want to leave the warmth, the scenery, and the people. If you're visiting the area, or live in Austin and are looking for an adventure with some friends - I highly recommend getting in touch with Just For Fun and making a gorgeous day of it. "Funner when wet" is my new motto. We had an offsite work retreat that our group looked forward to for weeks - maybe even months. However, the shuttle from our hotel downtown to the Just For Fun marina was no fun at all (think: hangovers, headaches, fatigue, nausea and all-around car sickness). HOWEVER ... "How on Earth will I ever make it through the day" quickly transformed into "I don't ever wanna leave!" Fred (50-person capacity) is a 2-story barge complete with a steep water slide, two jumping planks, a barbecue grill, restroom, giant cooler, tables, and chairs. He'll quickly remedied those hangovers in no time. You can bring whatever food and bevs you please, but someone in the group must sign an alcohol waiver. Don't forget you iPod/iPhone to plug into Fred's sound system. Not the best in the world, but coming from a person who bounced around to laser beats, country classics, hipster tunes and even a little gangsta rap, no complaints here! And no, we didn't dare play "I'm on a boat." Methinks Captain Cutie/"Allen" had enough of that in the past. ;) Other suggested items to bring along: paper towels noodles and floaties water guns ping pong balls to put those tables to use towels your fun stick When you arrive, give yourself some extra time to unload your car (the walk isn't that long, but they do have plenty of wheelbarrows to bring in your goods), check-in, sign forms, go over rules, yadda yadda yadda. On small complaint: Lighting in the bathroom is worse than a flashlight ... and can we get a ladder or something on this bad boy? You are able to play music on their system, have your own food and they even supply life vests, floaties and pool noodles. A word of warning only park down the trail on the dirt and gravel area. We came here with no reservations on a day that was a weekend and a very, very good day for the lake. I wasn't holding my breath since we were supposed to get up early but 6th street the night before was ... menacing :) Despite our lack of effort in showing up early, we were surprised to find that there were still wave runners available for rent and in a short 20 minutes we would also be able to grab a speedboat as well. We waited it out in the back deck area while checking out other boaters and getting our sun block business in order, and not too long after that we were called back to the front since our speedboat had come back! After some major gas fumes bracing with the instructors who checked everything with us, told us how to operate things in a basic manner, and went through five million sheets of paperwork, we were ready to go. Out on the lake, the waters were good, the wave runner was great although this one that we got was ... much less powerful than the one I had gotten from them before so we couldn't really "speed much" ... oh well. The speed boat was tons of fun, and many areas to lounge on as well. The speed boat even came with Jet Skis so we could try. After about 45 minutes of failed attempts, we gave up on the jet skiing and went back to the fun stuff. I liked that the staff prepped us for a pull over because, indeed, we were pulled over by a water sheriff! (is there such a thing? ... hah) but we had all the necessary equipment this time for a safety check and were quickly let go to return to the fun. All in all, great time again and again! I would highly, highly recommend a two-hour plus pontoon rental from Just For Fun on Lake Travis. The lake is a hilly 25-minute drive from almost anywhere in Austin, making it a hot spot for boaters, beach bums, and party barges. Year round, many Austinites flock to the lake, so there is no lack of boat rental outfits on the water. Twice I've done extensive research on Austin boat rentals, hoping to entertain friends and family in town for a visit. Just For Fun seems to be the best bang for your buck. While you won't see a ton of variance in the rental prices on the lake, you will see a variance in equipment quality and quantity. JFF has plenty of modern watercraft for whatever your interest. I suggest the pontoon boat because 1) it's cheapest, at $50/hour; 2) it allows for large groups; 3) it's great for swimming, sunbathing, and admiring the beautiful houses that sit above the towering cliffs; and, most importantly 4) it is safest to operate something that only goes 10-12 mph...especially when it doesn't belong to you. They have ski boats and jet skis, in addition to houseboats and party barges. The staff is cheerful and takes care to give boater-illiterate instructions to renters. They are very good about accommodating your reservation needs. Also, they aren't sticklers about the time - if you're a few minutes late, they won't charge you. Alcohol permitted. Bring coolers. Hot tip: 10% discount on weekdays! There are two JFF locations in Austin. Emerald Point Marina and Lake Travis Marina. This facility has the WORST customer service I have ever seen. They will make you jump through unnecessary hoops for a refund. We had a memorial Day birthday bash planned that was already a huge disappointment because there was a massive thunderstorm. Cheryl and Kaitlin made a bad day worse by forcing us to drive in the rain to the docks and would NOT ALLOW can elation and refund of our pontoon till the moment of departure despite lightening and torrential rains. We were a party of 40 and our hostess rented the party barge. This was my first time so I was over the top excited! We were scheduled to embark the barge by 8:30 but there was a delay due to clean up. In reality, I wouldn't want to cruise the lake on a dirty barge so I appreciated the effort. I must say it took a while to have all 40 to sign a waiver right before getting on the barge. Again, something necessary but wish it had been done sooner to avoid further delays. The cruise itself was relaxing. We had two fun captains & one was Clay (sorry, forgot the other Captain's name). They were quite accommodating and they laid out the rules quickly. So you must be wondering, why the three stars? 1. For those swimming, it would have been nice to provide a ladder. Getting up on the barge is not an easy task especially for older folks like me! I managed to make it but talk about an unglamorous posture while bracing myself with one leg on the deck and swinging the other to haul myself up! 2. Lights- I noticed one barge with string lights on their upper deck. Ours did not have any so it was quite dark. Our cruise was from 9 PM to midnight. 3. Smoking- yes, smoking is allowed on some sections of the barge. Wish they did away with this! All together, I had a great time. It's all about the company we keep so yes, I'd do this all over again! I might even take my own ladder next time! Ha! read more

I'm sad to say that I had a very terrible experience with them. The reservation has been made for weeks, they had a boat for us but they did not have the tube that we had paid for. It took us about a half hour to get a tube from someone who was returning their boat. Once we were in the water, everything was great until we came back. While we were driving back there are signs that tell you to slow down and we did. But apparently we were still going a little too fast. The guys were telling us to slow down some more and we did. But then one of the guys starts yelling at us saying that he wanted to write an $850 ticket for speeding. I understand that the signs say to slow down but it was the first time our driver drove a boat. If I could give a negative 5 star, I would. He was really rude and impersonated a cop for saying that he can write a ticket. read more

I 100% would come here again if I ever make it back down to Austin. I'm from Maryland and had a mini vacation in Austin. Our group (five of us) wanted to spend a day out on Lake Travis to celebrate my husband and I's wedding anniversary and the graduation of one of our friends. We rented a 10 person Pontoon boat. The boat was pretty new (less than 2 years old) and had plenty of space for storage. It was pretty easy to drive and the folks at the shop made sure we knew what we were doing before we set off. We were informed of where exactly everything was (even told explicitly if we were to get "pulled over" what items we would need and where to find them), and given a map to help guide us through the lake. The customer service team is BUSY but very thorough. They were more than accommodating for our busy group that changes schedules a lot. I cannot say enough about their customer service. My husband left his wedding ring (ON our first anniversary- ha!) on a boat and we were flying back to Baltimore the next morning. Our hotel was an hour away and we didn't realize he had left it there until then (and the shop had closed). He called the next morning and they immediately went to look for the ring on the boat we rented. They found the ring and told us they would keep it there for us. When we said we couldn't come since we had a plane to catch they offered to mail it to us. They not only asked us HOW we would like it mailed (next day please!) but what service (FedEx, UPS, etc.). The staff must have a great sense of humor, because they found a surgical glove, placed the ring on the left finger and taped it to a piece of cardboard. They even called us to make sure we got it. So in addition to great boats and good prices... they have an outstanding staff. read more
